Change of IP network address space

Hi all

I work with our local IT people to get a new address space that is larger than what we have currently allocated.  We currently have two class C address which are separate, but adjacent blocks.  We will migrate to a new address space which is a 22 space (4 blocks of class C).

I'm curious to know what is the best way to migrate existing systems to new block of addresses.  Our Lab Manager users have about 50 deployed computers.  I'm not adverse to force people to cancel the deployment and redeployment can help to change, but what is the best way to manage the change of the IP address of the virtual machine itself?  LM will take care of this for us, we have to recustomize or do it manually?

Since we have networks spanning host, is it possible to convert the existing physical network virtual and just that bridge to the new physical network?  This could be the solution of effort low right now and so let me migrate slowly / system configurations to the physical network over time.

Thank you

Jason

Hi Jason,

Couple options based on your questions:

(a) lab Manager not automatically refreshes your virtual machine if your subnet is changed in physical network settings.  You will need to cancel the deployment/redeployment for LM to get a new IP address from the pool and recustomization on the existing VMs for the address to apply force.  If you use fences, you need to make sure that the vRouter gets also cancelled/made to implement the rules by the new addressing scheme.  You could also just manually change the IP addresses in the virtual machines but a cancel the deployment/redeployment is necessary in any event.

(b) you can potentially convert the physical network existing in virtual (actually just create a virtual network with similar parameters.  There is no option for a conversion of this type) and how to bind V networks P.  However, with this method, you will have to add the new virtual network to each configuration and also to change the NIC of each virtual computer to connect to the new virtual network.  You will then have to cancel the deployment/redeployment configs, forcing the customization (pulling of the new pool of virtual IP networks even if it's the same subnet) and a virtual and physical link.

I'd say you're better off with option has).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Changes to the network when the reconfiguration of the DHCP server to the static IP address

I installed new positions of work on my network and had WDS push the image so we have installed DHCP to do this. After all the work stations were Setup, I started to change static IP DHCP on the workstations as we prefer to use static IP addresses.  Some computers work fine, some don't. The problem I have is when changing from a static IP, as active network passes the network of the area to the Public network. However, when it is configured to use DHCP, the active network is the domain network. What am I, I missing which will cause the active networks of change to public networks at the static IP change? I checked the settings ip IP, Subnet, DG and DNS and they seem correct. I tried to withdrawal, join. I tried the update NIC driver. I tried to uninstall the NETWORK adapter and reboot. If anyone has seen this before?

  • How can I change the network address of my Time Machine drive?

    Hi people,

This is my second question in 12 hours. Thanks to help I received here, I abandoned my doomed attempt to use my old AirPort Extreme and a USB key for Time Machine backups.

I've used my ReadyNAS for Time Machine backups, but it has never been reliable. I think I have tracked the question and I would like to try again. However, Time Machine remembers the old network address for the ReadyNAS unit (smb://NAS_TimeMachine.local/ReadyNAS) and does not 'see' the same unit at current address (afp://[email protected]/NASTimeMachine). You could collect that networking is not something I understand.

I think that this can be also responsible for the boring 'There was a problem... "messages that I receive at startup telling me the drive could not be mounted.

Is there a way to force the time Machine to forget the old address and 'see' a new?

    See you soon,.

    Click Open Time Machine Preferences

    Click select drive

Click on a disc that appears under the heading of backup discs , so that it appears highlighted

    Click remove disk

Do the same for all the other disks that may appear under the heading of backup discs

Turn off and restart the AirPort Extreme

    Restart the Mac.

Click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen

  • Acquiring network address number

One of my users has a HP Pavilion notebook dv6000, XP Media Center Edition, SP3, MS updates to date.   I cleaned the system of viruses, malware, spyware, adware are about 2 weeks and everything worked great - fast and efficient.

    the problem is:
Users used the home laptop to connect to internet through their company of cable using DHCP, and the laptop had been works correctly after I had cleaned up two weeks ago. the user he brought him back to the office and said that it does not connect to the internet.  I plugged the laptop in the network of companies and of course, it does not connect to the network.  After running all software malware/virus/spyware/adware to see if something prevented the connection, and they came up with zippo.
because the laptop is set up for DHCP I thought I'll try static IP and it worked.  I was able to connect to the internet, surfing etc.  I went back to DHCP and still get to acquire network address and does not connect to the internet.

Any ideas as to why it does not connect via DHCP.  All my computers at the office work properly on DHCP.  It's just the laptop which is seen the question... in our office and his home.

    some added info:
I was told that his son installed Skype on the laptop after that I had cleaned the computer a couple of weeks.  It is the only software that has been installed on the laptop on but the laptop was working fine, after that he installed Skype.  Just for ha - ha's, I uninstalled Skype and usefulness of the tool bar to see if the connection to the internet would work with DHCP, but it has no effect.

There is a wireless adapter to the laptop I have turn off and tried to get on the internet using DHCP, no luck.

First of all, make sure that your DHCP Service is running:

    Start-> Run-> "services.msc".

Then, look for the line "DHCP Client" and ensure that its status is "started" and Startup Type is "automatic".  Double-click it to change.

Second, make sure that there is no firewall blocking port 67 or 68 for DHCP.

Thirdly, try to reset your IP stack:

Finally, try one of the following repair programs:

  • HELP linksys wireless USB adapter: (model # WUSB54GC) "acquiring network address" not actually connect to the internet! ?? Windows xp pro

Hello. Ive been at this for 4 days now, I can't find a solution. I'll try to remember as much as possible regarding what ive tried.

    here goes...

long story short, due to unfortunate system errors, I have reinstalled my OS XP home to xp pro. PC works great now! problem is... now my wireless adapter wont connect to the internet.

When I had xp home edition installed, I could just plug in the adapter, and a few seconds, it would connect to the favorite network. (with all settings on Auto) no problem.

now that ive put in OS, it's just cycling "absorbing the network address" infinitely...

his watch the access point, the preferred network, showing the signal strength and do not show errors in Device Manager. right-click and choosing fix do not work. It gets stuck @ renewing IP address scene. its not send or receive packets under status.

He EXPECTED to be functional? It uses a 10-digit WEP key.

Ive tried both the linksys wireless monitor and the windows zero configuration utilites.i since removed the lynksys software screen because it never worked anyway. WZC is that used to work on xp family.

I used " ipconfig/all" to determine the values of the network on the host pc. I tried manually punching in those values (IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS settings, according to the suggestion of a networking of friends) on the adapter wireless itself; using tci/ip options. still does not connect.

Ive tried different USB ports, all that seems to do is to change the number of the wireless connection.

It just does not connect to the internet.

I have the driver I need for this after contacting linksys. I also disabled windows firewall and the firewall/antivirus of 3rd party associated with the network.

He knows questions w / windows xp professional and this particular wireless adapter? (WUSB54GC) that's the only reason why I can think of that is not connected.

what I forget? internet hard wiring of an ethernet port is not an option because there is no ethernet card installed in the pc.

any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

    Thank you.

Sorry it took so long for me to return.

It was a setting under working group which had to be adjusted from reinstalling windows. (something that has been disabled I forgot, don't remember what it was since its been like 3 weeks)

that he got the running dhcp... That is to say. allowed 4 dependence to work progrmas, boom, problem solved.

the adapter now works with the automatic settings, using WEP encryption. as it should, and it was.

Thank you very much for the replies, I appreciated the help.

  • Update my windows xp to 64-bit increases the allowed for the ram address space?

I have Windows XP 32-bit... If I have upgraded to Windows XP 64 bit will it allows me a greater address space for my ram?  I already know that the programs that I use currently will support 64 bit.  My motherboard will support it as well.  Like I'm looking for a solution to my problems on this model of game play.  It serves to support my game very well, but since the processor over heated (replaced fan) and replaced the graphics card, ram replaced... my gaming experience is still not was.

It would if you could... but you probably can't.

On the one hand, it is not only your programs or your motherboard.  You must change your CPU as well.  Is there any other hardware and device drivers.  And, of course, there is the small problem that Windows XP 64-bit is no longer available from Microsoft (you can find online, but it is not cheap and may or may not be 'authentic').

  • Internet connection with XP Pro SP3 and Airport Extreme - possible only Internet with no secruity, WEP - "status is always acquiring network address.

IMac seen the router and connected flawlessly, Sony Vaio however under secruity always gives me "absorbing the network address", I was looking around and heard xp pro sp3 has problems with wpa2 so I changed the settings for wep on apple Airport extreme and it STILL does not work. If I have no secruity that it picks up the signal from the internet and everything is fine. I tried to update the drivers for the wireless LAN card already, any input would be great

SOLVED... apparently xp pro sp3 has problems with wpa2, it refuses to connect. I went to settings on extreme airport secruity but wep was not an option, I had to click on OPTION on my MAC keyboard, then click the settings secruity and wep is there, so I removed all the "preferred networks" and restarted the process 'learning' on the vaio and everything's fine. Thanks for all the help, I can get some rest tonight

  • Internet connection with Windows XP, SP3 and Airport Extreme - the status is always "absorbing network address.

My Airport Extreme connected my IMac immediately, but I am not able to connect on the side PC. Airport utility does not 'no matter what Airport wireless devices". Under hardware I show Atheros Wireless Network Adapter and the mention: "this device works correctly.

    Hello

Keep the changes and open the wireless. For example, to disable security in the router (turn on when to managed to connect).

You can also try the wireless in a friends house, or an Internet café to get a frame of reference for this behavior elsewhere.

    -------------------

    Wi - Fi in general.

These steps and tell us where is the breaking point.

Check the Device Manager for the wireless card valid entry.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_dm.jpg

If there is no valid entry, remove any entry from fake and re - install the drivers for the wireless card.

Check network connections to make sure that you have a network icon/entry wireless connection, and that the properties of the icon (right-click on the icon) are correctly configured with the TCP/IPv4 protocol in the properties of network connections.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_connection_tcp.jpg

    ------------------

The wireless card drivers much also install utility wireless of the seller.

Make sure that if there are teas from Wireless Utility of seller does not work with the native Windows wireless utility (Service WLAN).

    ----------------

Make sure you firewall No. preventing / blocks wireless components to join the network.

Some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled).

If possible set up the firewall correctly, otherwise totally uninstall and get rid of its remaining processes that permit the own local network traffic flow.

If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

party like Hello and NetMagic 3rd network managers can block local traffic too.

    ---------------------------

Stack TCP/IP work should look like.

Right-click on the wireless network connection card, select status, details and see if she got an IP address and the rest of the settings.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/status-NIC.jpg

Description is the data of the card making.

The physical address is MAC of the card number.

The xx must be a number between 0 and 255 (all xx even number).

YY should be between 0 and 255

ZZ should be between 0 and 255 (zz all the same number.)

The date of the lease must be valid at the present time.

    * Note 1. IP that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx isn't valid functional IP.

    * Note 2. There could be an IPv6 entries too. However, they are not functional for Internet or LAN traffic. They are necessary for Win 7 homegroup special configuration.

    ---------------------------------------------------

A message in the small window that says connected wireless doesn't means that you are really a valid functional connection.

Above everything is OK, you must be able to connect to the router.

Connection to the router means that you can enter the IP of the router base in an address bar in one go, being able to connect and configure the router menus see.

If it doesn't connect to the router, journal newspaper from any computer that can connect to the router wirelessly with a wire, disable wireless security, make sure that the wireless SSID broadcast is enabled and try to connect with no. wireless security.

Enable security wireless after you eat to make a functional connection.
