change the name of the computer in homegroup

Original title: Homegroup computer name Question

I have a little trouble understand Windows 8 Homegroup computer names.  My name is Lance and I want the name of my computer to be 'Media-3 '.  I tried different combinations of account names and the name of the computer, but whenever I look under the box of homegroup in Windows Explorer, my computer is presented as 'summi_000 '.  It is a variant of the email address, I used initially to set up this new computer Windows 8 until I knew exactly what I was doing (don't know if I know even now).

I can't quite understand how to get this 'summi_000' to disappear and put the right either user name or computer name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lance

Hi Lance,.

Try these steps and let us know the result.

-Press the Windows key and the X key, then select run.

-In the line run , type compmgmt.msc , and then press on enter.

-In the left pane, select local users and groups. Double-click users.

-Right click on summi_000 and rename it.

-In the line run , type sysdm.cpl , and then press on enter.

-In the computer name tab, select change.

-Enter the name of the computer that you want and press ok.

Once you have changed the name of the user and the name of the computer account, leave the homegroup.

Leave a homegroup

-Open homegroup by hitting swipe in the right screen edge, stitching settings (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then clicking on settings), touching or clicking on PC and then change settings by typing or clicking homegroup.

-Press or click on leave.

-Restart the computer.

Once the computer restarts, try to join the host group and check if the name mentioned under homegroup has changed or not.

I want to change the computer name added to the initial setup of the computer. I tried several suggested solutions and none worked.

The easiest way to do what you want is to create another user with privileges to adminstrive account and name what you want.

Then copy all your data and configure it as you wish.

When you are satisfied, remove the original account.

  • How to change the computer name of existing desktop computers linked clone pool?

    Hello

I'm curious about something that has developed in our Organization.  New guidelines came down and we have to change the name of the computer for all of our offices to meet the new criteria.

I have many of our users is on the offices of Linked-Clone (automated pool, dedicated, assignment see 5.1) which will have their names have been changed.  I use a 'model' for the name of the computer.

I tried this before by simply change the settings of the pool, and then recompose the pool.  Recompose worked well, but NONE of the virtual machine names have been changed.  All machines, recomposed just fine, but keep the old name of the computer (non-compliant).

How can I change the name of the computer of my clone in an existing pool offices?  Maybe I have something wrong.  I'm doing it instead of having to create a new pool and move the persistent disks.  I would like to change the name in the settings of the pool and recompose, but it did not work.

    Scenario:
    See 5.1

    Automated cloning related pool

    Assignment of dedicated (persistent disks)

    Thanks in advance

It is not possible to change the name of existing workstations by modifying the settings of the pool. There is no way to make this happen automatically and in doing so manually would not seen happy.

Unfortunately, for dedicated pools, you will have more work to do. If you do not use Persona you detach the persistent disks and recreate virtual machines in the pool with this disk to create a new virtual machine with a new name to be generated.

If you use Persona you could remove all virtual machines and have Persona to extract profile data down to the virtual machine that would be entitled to the user when they connect then. This will cause all user installed programs go, but I hope that's not common if you are already using linked clones.

I encourage to go to the next page, click on the feature request form link and publish information on what you're trying to do:

    https://www.VMware.com/support/policies/feature.html

Notifications about features are reviewed by VMware and if you can get enough of your friends/colleagues notice to users to ask something often a solution will grow in any kind, nature or form.

    Hope this helps.

  • Laptop HP Pavillion 15-p051u: HP Recovery Manager should be able to change the computer creating media?

I'm doing the original backup set of DVDs for a laptop HP Pavillion (15-p051us) 15. Due to an error, I'm afraid to continue.
I got to speak with a HP tech person, who helped me to pass the second record to DVD. now, I'm trying to start the burning of the third DVD of backup recovery. When I click on the button to launch the "HP Media creation" I get interrupted with a window which shows:

    ***********************************************
    * User account control *.
    ***********************************************
    *                                                                                          *
    * Want to allow the following program *.
    * to make changes to this computer?                      *
    ***********************************************
    * Program name: HP Recovery Manager *.
    * Verified Publisher: Hewlett Packard Company *.
    * Original folder: hard drive on this computer *.
    Program location: "C:\Program Files\ (x 86)."

    ***********************************************
    *                           Yes     No                                              *
    ***********************************************

I obviously don't want to change the program to backup for me when I'm not finished to make the backup. (As I've noted, two DVD's burned and verified. Four still needed.) But when I click on the button 'No' to say "don't edit my computer now until I finished the last four DVD" disappears from the user account control window and the creation of HP recovery media is not engaged. My first two questions are (1) why my computer wants to interrupt the creation of my 6 DVD recovery until the work is done? (2) it would be safe for me to click on the 'Yes' button or what may cause a fatal error in the backup process? In a note, I would like to report that the person HP with whom I spoke on the phone mentioned the fact that the error can be caused by lower DVD media. To counter this notice I tried three DVD good nine successive State. I used more than a dozen DVDs of this package on another computer. With these, he had no problem with registration, verification or later to read these DVD. If my guess is that it is unlikely three of them failing in the HP computer. I don't think that's the problem. I read through 60 first found elements that were identified when I did a search on the website of HP using the key phrase 'Recovery Manager change'. This has proved a total of 7499 possible Articles, but I looked through 60 without success.

Answer Yes to user account control. This is the irritating feature of Windows that assume at all times that you don't know what you're doing. HP Recovery is harmless and should have access to the files on hard drive.

For example, you could get the same question when you try to install the software for a printer, etc. and would answer Yes - you would answer no if a piece of malware slipped on your system and UAC taken he's trying to make changes and pointed out.

  • Want to change the computer name of PC/crumbs to PC/CrystalDawn without reformatting or open new account

    Hi all!

I hope someone can help me with this; I'm trying to change my computer name of PC/crumbs to PC/CrystalDawn without having to reformat or open a new account CrystalDawn and manually migrate thousands of items saved so far, as suggested by another user in this Forums MS 2009 post on my computer:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistaappearance/thread/88d24e9-C944-4DC8-86cd-6057ccfc04a2

It seems a little silly that I have to go through so much trouble to make such a minor change and back.  If someone could explain if and why it must be so annoyingly difficult just make this small change, perhaps understanding would help me decide if I would go through with the whole rigamarole if it is really necessary.

I guess my other question will be, is it really necessary?  The people at the other end of files displayed in a portal online or any other place see the ' PC/crumbs' or 'Documents/Crumbs/filename.doc' or do they see just "door"?  I'll keep it like that if it's only visible as of the crumbs in my computer, but since I work online and send files of professional document a lot, a lot, I certainly don't want will be called "crumbs".

Any help would be appreciated because I don't have the $60,00 by every 10 minutes if I had to call Microsoft itself.

If you want to rename your computer, here's how: http://www.ehow.com/how_5124750_change-computer-name-vista.html

However, I think you mean you want to rename your account. You can do, but the record of account will be always called crumbs here:C:\Users and everything related to saving the files. The files will always be completely when you put them and nothing's wrong turn.

If you download the file to a service such as skydrive, the file is stored on the server of the site and has nothing to do with your computer more (so they'll just see).

I know it's annoying that you cannot rename the folder of the user himself. Maybe they'll fix it someday...

  • How to change the computer information

    Hello

I'm looking how to change, via the terminal, the 4 fields named info 1 and 2 info, info 3 info 4 in the "system preferences/sharing/remote management / computer settings button.

These fields are displayed in the ARD and ARD reports and are very useful to sort the computers when you have a large number of them.

PS: Since the upgrade to El Capitan when I try to change these settings through ADR, ARD crashes whenever I try to send the command to make this change on a remote computer.

Probably more useful for you, but fashioned I would answer.

    sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop \Text1 "TextForSection1".

    sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop \Text2 "TextForSection2".

  • stop the warning to change the host name

    I continue to be careful:

Your computer name is already in use on this network. the name has been changed...

I click ok and keeps coming back with many more and will not stop!

    Thank you

This is the share name that is duplicated on another device on the network, or the name of VICTORIES under the Ethernet settings. Both are in system preferences.

Under network, click the network connection you are using (wired or wireless). Click the Advanced button, then the WINS tab change the NetBIOS name to something else. Click OK. If it is active, click on the button apply.

If that doesn't help, click on the share icon. Change the computer name to something else. This is necessary, or even do anything if at least one of the options of sharing is checked.

  • I uninstalled a program that says he would remove the registry entries but the system subsequently restore says I have does not changes to the computer.

What can I say?  System Restore is not useful for me.  Too often, there is no restore my computer to an earlier state.

System Restore rarely admits that I had changed the computer - even when I uninstalled programs in the root directory.  What takes to "make changes to my computer?

Install programs often has no changes - he said.
Often the programs uninstaller is not make changes either.

I did both today and could not undo the changes.  Tired of this.

At least I can save the computer with Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost.

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

What problem are you having this thing you that System Restore will remedy - or you're just in practice?  (It should still work).

Some anti-virus / Anti-Malware tools 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:

Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...

It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:

    http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2005113009323013

Depending on what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, to the restoration of the system, then
    Turn on the product.

Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.

Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  Well, it seems to work for some configurations.

System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.

Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.

Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.

No matter what you use, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.

  • Change the properties of files and folders

I recently changed the computer name and administrator, but I can't delete properties of former directors, i.e. name of files and folders. How can I do this?

Where in poperties are you talking about?  Here is the list of authorized users - security and if you are looged Admin everything you need to do is click on edit and select another administrator, and then click on delete and it's done.  I don't think that this deletion process can be done throughout the world - and if is not necessary as this other account administrator is no longer eistss or has been disabled.  You should already be added to the Administrators group so that your username does not need to be added for access.

If this isn't security, where are you talking about?  What are the 'properties' belong to the former administrator.  I don't understand.  Could you please further explain and tell me exactly how to get to the screen you are talking about?  In addition, please explain what you are tyring to accomplish by doing this - what is the problem with the other 'properties' of the administrator that you need to remove the name and I guess only to insert your new name?
