Changing from DHCP to static IP address

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help.  I initially set up my VMA to be a DHCP client, but now I need to configure it with a static IP address.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@RParker, not if it's already been decided... This is only available during the first time, you deploy vMA

@Op

You have 2 options: either run through Setup again by running:

sudo /opt/vmware/vima/bin/vmware-vima-netconf.pl

OR

Manually configure the interface to move the DHCP STATIC server, since it is a RHEL5 system, you'll find tutorials on the creation of a static IP address via the web:

Here is a tutorial that can be used: http://www.wallpaperama.com/forums/how-to-change-ip-address-static-dynamic-linux-fedora-core-red-hat-t1692.html

I recommend you do this in the console of the vSphere vMA (not via SSH session) Client in case you make a mistake you will lose access to the host.

    Hello

You can assign static IP using the below command

    esxcfg-vswif - i

    Restart the network service

    restart of the #service network

Try this command to list the IPconfig

    #esxcfg - vswif - l

  • ESXi 4.1 connection NIC 0 to NIC 2 to a Port DHCP and static IP address

I have a Dell Blade M610 I recently put in place with ESXi 4.1 Software. I have the Management Console, NIC 0, a static IP address, but when I connect to a DHCP Port to NIC 1 I lose the ability to connect to the console of the VSphere Client. I get "connection failed". Remove the DHCP connection works and I can log in and manage the server.

    Question-

What settings am I missing, that will allow me to connect it to a static IP Port and a DHCP Port at the same time?

The static IP addressed Port is behind a firewall on a subnet to isloated. The DHCP Port is on the Production network. A point to note - while IP address static on an isolated network, the TCP/IP Port, which allows you to talk to the domain controller to add from the PC to the field, is open. Most of the other Ports TCP/IP is disabled.

I would like to know if it is possible to realize that I need to create virtual machines to be used on the remote subnet, as well as on the Production side of the network.

Is there a reason for the group "DHCP VMkernel" VMkernel ports on vSwitch1? If this is not the case, remove this port group. It is not necessary to connect to the network of the VM.

  • AP large-scale deployments... DHCP or static IP address?

    Simple question (s):

If you are a big corporate customer that controls devices with HP OpenViiew, you deploy hundreds of wireless AP with DHCP, taking advantage of the ease and convenience DHCP gives you or, statically assign you the AP IP addresses so OpenView always knows where to find them, accepting the hassle of having to perform the task assignment IP address any time there is a replacement of the AP?

(Please don't tell me that you have to manage all the AP with an owner Cisco management console - without HPOV, in this case, is not an option.)

If you have worked or been around large deployments of AP wireless, let me know what you saw out there and why.

If you have a Cisco reference architecture that recommend one method over the other, just direct me.

    Thank you
    Mike Prescher

Well... I staged of the AP is easier for me to create a spreadsheet with the hostname, scan in the serial number, mac address, enter the location and ip address.  I've done big installs that may include WISN 12 and continues to grow... all with static implementations and small all with static.  I see how it is and access point is a network device, so are any of your other network devices via dhcp or same servers configured for dhcp?  Customers usually have some kind of monitoring tool and to have a change of ip address for some strange reason, and monitoring tool showing a device different is not a good thing.  DHCP is easy and is not a bad option.

  • Why vMotion will not work with an IP from DHCP, but not a static IP address?

I have a bit of a puzzle game. I'm trying to implement vMotion on our new leaves. They run VMWare ESX 4.0.0 208167. I've implemented the VMkernel on a separate vSwitch. When I try to use a static IP address, I get various errors about the connection being reset by the peer or that he was unable to send a copy before starting the message to the remote host, or that he was unable to receive bytes from the remote host.

However, if all I do is go to the VMkernel and switch to a static IP address to DHCP on the IP settings tab, it rolls. And, as far as I can tell, everything is exactly the same except for the last digits of the IP number (static IP is 10.11.129.148, DHCP is 10.11.129.64). The subnet mask looks the same, and the default gateway is the same. Only these latest figures do not.

DHCP always appears to pick up the same IPs for the blades, so I'm just a bit puzzled as to why the last digit would make a difference, if there is no other device on the network with this IP address.

    Thank you!

    Keith

It is absolutely not a DHCP or static IP address. If static IP adrresses don't wor the you must check all your settings and check for IPs in doubles.

  • Changes to the network when the reconfiguration of the DHCP server to the static IP address

I installed new positions of work on my network and had WDS push the image so we have installed DHCP to do this. After all the work stations were Setup, I started to change static IP DHCP on the workstations as we prefer to use static IP addresses.  Some computers work fine, some don't. The problem I have is when changing from a static IP, as active network passes the network of the area to the Public network. However, when it is configured to use DHCP, the active network is the domain network. What am I, I missing which will cause the active networks of change to public networks at the static IP change? I checked the settings ip IP, Subnet, DG and DNS and they seem correct. I tried to withdrawal, join. I tried the update NIC driver. I tried to uninstall the NETWORK adapter and reboot. If anyone has seen this before?

  • Assign a static IP address via DHCP based on the Mac address of the virtual machine

    Hi all

It is especially a feature request, as I'm sure that it is not currently possible to do what I want to do...

I would like to be able to assign static IP addresses to VM without having to manually configure the network settings of the virtual machine directly. I want to be able to do it from the DHCP settings in the virtual network Editor.

Most of the routers DHCP allow this. They give an IP address through DHCP based on the MAC address of the client. This means that the customer is concerned that he receives a regular IP DHCP address, but it is never change.

DHCP is the default option for all OS this makes things much easier to manage, as IP addresses is assigned in the same way, in one place for all DHCP clients, regardless of the client operating system, and without having to manually keep track of which the IP is assigned to which customers etc..

Also AFAIK at least for Ubuntu, you cannot assign a static IP address without having to also statically assign to the DNS server. It is only the IP address I need to be static, so I prefer not to have to worry about manually assign the DNS server.

I can just kind of fudge making the really long DHCP lease duration, but the maximum is 99 days only, so finally addresses are going to change, that would mean a whole bunch of reconfiguration for VM services, etc..

Does anyone know if the workstation 9 has this ability? I am currently on version 8, but I would probably upgrade this function only if she can do it.

If there is no way to do what I want to directly through the virtual network Editor, can anyone recommend a way to do this, perhaps using Guest only network and then, by running a kind of services to the 3rd party NAT and DHCP on the host?

    Thank you

    Eugene

There is no GUI option to get what you are looking for, but you can do it manually. Please take a look at Re: assign a static IP to guest with network adapter NAT Virt? where I posted an example.

  • Photosmart B109n-z - the definition of a static IP address on the printer on an active DHCP router

    Hello world

I hope someone can help me with a problem I have with this new printer.

I installed this printer on my network, via my Belkin N wireless router.

I have 5 PC on my network, 1 PC is wired, the other 4 are all connected wireless and use DHCP to assign IP addresses. I installed the software on every PC following the instructions on CD and the INVESTIGATION period has been set at the time where the method, the first of the USB cable and allocated 192.168.2.8

All PC could see the printer and can print directly to it.

The problem I have is that once I turned off the printer to move it to a more accessible place at home for all to use on powered upwards, it was allocated a different IP address by DHCP and now no one can no longer see the printer.

I printed a network printer configuration page and the IP address has changed to 192.168.2.12.

I know not if I disconnect again or suffer an output power, then it will constantly change IP of the DHCP assignment. All my IP leases are forever, but I can't help the outs of the downs of the power supply and cannot keep having the printer disappear all the time.

My router has currently the following IP ranges

    192.168.2.1 router

192.168.2.2 PC - Hard wired PC server

192.168.2.3 thru 99 - pool beach of IP DHCP that covers my WIFI PC 4

192.168.2.100 thru 249 - available for static allocation

How can I set one of my static to the printer IP address, as whenever I try to access and make a change to the IP configuration screen, I can't make a change that allows me to set up a static beaches.

The manual that comes with the machine does not mention how to differentiate by using DHCP and static IP Setup.

As I said, any help would be appreciated, as I want to, this machine works so everyone can access it wherever they are in my house.

    See you soon

    Pop

Type the IP address in a browser.  You will see the internal settings of the printer.

Click on the tab network, on the left side, wireless (802.11), then the IPv4 tab.

On this screen, click on the box to manual IP option, and then type your IP you want (outside the DHCP range).

Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet and the gateway router IP and DNS (the first one, leave the second empty).

Click on apply and wait.  Then go to the NEW IP address you assigned and check the communication.

  • HP laserjet professional P1606: how to change static ip address for HP laserjet professional P1606 dn

    Dear Sir.

I have the professional printer hp (hp laserjet P1606) model, I have connected the printer to my router by ethernet port. Thus, he got a dynamic IP, that we know changes this dynamic IP most of the time and create problems. If I click on the ip address of the hp printer on the list of clients of wifi router. There is possibility to provide the static ip address for printer I did and gave a static ip address. a few days later the router has been restored and then I face the problem is I couldn't Ministry the ip address of the printer.   How can I access the ip address of the printer... because until the printer is not an IP and I click on the ip address and a printer page does not open I couldn't change the ip address or the type of static or dynamic ip... .the photos I have uplaoded...

    Hi @Tahir-Mehmood,.

I would say to restore the printer back to factory settings. HP LaserJet Pro P1566 and P1606dn - default settings factory restore printers.

Then, the router must assign a new IP address to the printer and you should then be able to again access the server built-in Web printer.

If the router assigns the printer IP address automatically, temporarily connect the printer to the computer using the Ethernet cable and ad hoc of the printer. This will give you an IP address so you can access the printer built-in Web server, and then you can configure the IP address again through your network.

I hope this helps. Thank you.

  • Printer Scanner does not not after having changed to a static ip address not working

I have a printer large format HP 7500 has.  I recently added a second router in my house, to extend my wifi signal.  After that, the printer kept giving up a network connection.  So I put a static ip address of 192.168.1.250 for the printer.  Now the network connection seems solid, but when I try to scan from the software Scan3 on my Mac, it says that it cannot find the printer.  I have a MacPro running OS X 7.5.  Thanks for any help.

    I'm still here

What happens if we connect the Ethernet cable from the printer to the second router. Turn off the wireless on the Yes of the printer, but which he plugged into the router means that any device communicating with this router will be able to communicate with the printer.

  • How can I add a static ip address on an active NETWORK of DHCP?

I find it difficult to live, why is there a way to add a static ip address to a NETWORK adapter that is active DHCP?

Windows always kick punch in the face, that was possible in previous versions of Windows, but MS decided to do my and many others life a bit more difficult and frustrating.
Which takes a few minutes in a system * nix is not possible in Windows?
I want to add a static ip address to all my computers in my house (about 10) without having to install a local DHCP server, for the reason I want a public ip address to all my computers (servers) witch my ISP provides. Even if I want a LAN for security reasons.
And this should be possible without any new purchase of network equipment and so on.
Why Windows users is more frustrated than others? Not difficult to understand.

This seems to be a question that more people on the forum TechNet Windows 7 IT Pro network can have an idea.

  • Auto DHCP and static IP together

I was wondering if I could put one of my computers to a static IP address and leave the rest to Auto DHCP? Only

I want that because I run a webcam and if the IP address changes on the computer that is running, I

Enter and change the permissions in the port range to make it work.

I use the WRT54GS and NM 5.5.9195 pure on a XP Home SP3 network all.

Without a doubt! It is the usual practice, if you have devices that need a port forwarding you set the static IP address on it. Just don't choose an address from the DHCP range, which is from 100 to 149.

  • Error in administration panel and a Question about static IP addresses

Because it seems to be nowhere else to report errors in the latest generation of Linksys router firmwares, I thought that the forums may be the best place.

If you use the remote access to your router Administration Management console, then saving the changes are sent to the

The page "your settings have been saved successfully.". When you click cancel it successfully attempts route to the appropriate host name but does not consider the port used. Therefore, unless you have your GPMC hosted on port 80, he's not taking you back in the right place.

    This is especially a gene.

My question is that I wonder if it is possible to assign static IP addresses in the router.

On my old routers from Linksys (much older) (before Cisco them redeemed), you can easily assign static IP.

I can't find a way to deal with the new generations.  All suggestions is recommended to give the static IP of the

network devices themselves, but problems on modern mobile devices which don't let you do,

for laptops that are introduced in a large number of different networks, it becomes an annoyance to change these settings manually.

    --

    I have a router EA4500.

You want to assign a specific ip address to your computer/network through the router devices? You can use this router DHCP reservation feature.

"A DHCP reservation is a permanent IP address assignment.  This is a specific IP address within a DHCP scope that is permanently reserved leased to a specific DHCP client. »
