  C:\Windows\system32\config\system is one of the files that make up the system registry.  Backups of the system registry files are kept in the 'C:\System Volume Information' folder under the system restore program.  Probably all you need to do is copy of registry backups in the Windows\system32\config folder.  A reinstall of windows may not be necessary.

  This is the result of not not more likely USB ports. You can try to update the drivers of usb device, but if the problem there is not a lot you can do otherwise than to buy an expansion usb card. You can disable usb error reports to stop seeing the error.

You should see (depending on your display options), a list of the icons or thumbnails of the photos. If this isn't the case, right click on one and choose open with.
