This probably isn't the place for this comment, but I would like to personally thank Chris Cox for all the entries that it gives on the Photoshop Forum.
As one of the architects of Photoshop her deep knowledge of the program is extremely useful, especially on issues that cry for some technical information that many of us do not possess, or express incorrectly.
Chris has been relatively stable over the years to visit the forum and messages to answer, and I think it is fair to say that his participation is appreciated by all.

Satellite new C660-1F1 windows 64-bit - cannot use graphics editing software

I have a big problem - 2 graphics main editing programs I use do not work. Corel Paintshop Photo Pro x 3 and Adobe CS5 can also be installed and opened, but as soon as I try to save a picture or change a picture both of the programs crash and I must close by using end task in Task Manager.
It happened when I installed the full versions of both programs that I bought and it also occurs when you download the trial versions of the Corel and Adobe download sites. I've been on the help so many forums for both adobe and corel and the most useful pointer came from one of the creators of Adobe - a Chris Cox.
Very logically, it said as it happened to both of these packages that it was probably a problem with the edition of 2 graphic graphics card drivers or the real hardware graphics card. I bought a 64-bit operating system to manage precisely these 2 programs which can be exhausting on the system. I know that I have only 2 GB of RAM at the moment, but it has happened with other people... who have same 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM which is what I'll have in the next few weeks. However, not if I can't fix this problem. Please can you help/advise the best solution. This seems to be a problem only with 64-bit systems. Adobe and Corel are 64-bit capable.
There is also a message that appears when I open Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended... which is as follows:
... "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements, visit the manufacturers of video card for the latest version of the software."
I then click this message below... .use of the program, change something, try to save and it crashes. I have gone through all the troubleshooting directions and ran countless diagnosis but it seems to be a common denominator between 2 different programs and it's my laptop Toshiba... I even tried to install another great photo software of edition to test and I got the same result - a crash of the application.

What about my friend? In my opinion the best advice you can get from Corel and Adobe. They have the best experience with own products and have probably tested on different hardware platforms.Computer laptop manufacturers offer models of different laptops with different hardware configurations. Some of them are cheap and available material to the average. The performance is not the best but good enough for every day such as internet activities, office, shipping and so on.
On the other hand, there are laptops fitted with excellent and powerful equipment. Very often, these notebooks cost twice as low-priced budget.Please don t get me wrong, but your portable C is not one that is suitable for use with this powerful software.
I really put t know that Toshiba can do about it. I guess that you need another graphics driver but support for graphics drivers for laptops is quite limited and I n t think you can do much about it.What you can try is to download and install the driver from the manufacturer of the graphics card, but you must do it at your own risk.
Sorry friend, but I put t have any other advice for you. I think you ve bought bad laptop for such complex graphical operations. 2 GB OF RAM? I put t know.

Installation on new Windows10 Photoshop7 computer with 2 to and 16 GB
I use Photoshop7 for years and I'm comfortable with it. I installed it on all new computers because I get them because I got it and it has always worked well. Now I try on my computer last new, which has Windows 10, 2 TB and 16 GB of Ram, and all I get is an error that says: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the"scratch disks"is full."
I read through many articles, forums, etc. All of them seem to be of the spirit you need to partition your drive hard to make it work. I am not all that computer savvy and don't know, I want to do this (not sure how that impacts my space). In addition, it seems that most of the responses came from questions that came years ago or on different versions of Windows. If I put it out there again. Adobe has created something to solve this problem? Is there a way around it?
I tried to download the trial version Photoshop to online, but for this simple user, this new and improved program is much too complicated (and expensive). I don't want to pay a monthly fee to use it either. I just wanted to be able to use my old version on my new computer. Is there a way?

Photoshop 7 cannot see drives over 1 TB see this thread for an explanation and a few ideas.
Chris Cox is the principal engineer for Photoshop. He said that the API to work around this limit are not come along until the CS or v 8.

Explanation of the brightness in Photoshop

Edit: I found a post of 2008 which may have the answer. Clearly, I need to read more.
In fact, re-read now, I think that I explained myself well enough in this other thread. Here's how it seems to me:
Equal brightness the brightness L channel RGB lab is something different, the average of R, G and B, which does not take account of the intrinsic lightness of a color. He's averaging only numbers. And all of this makes perfect sense, given that Lab is used as the 'profile connection space' (or one of them anyway), in all color management operations, what Photoshop does all the time anyway. The point is - Lab numbers are always readily available and easily accessible. Lab is still there, under the covers.
Applying a kind of calculation of RGB values for brightness is a dead-end road, this isn't how it works. HSB is derived from RGB, so there is no connection with the brightness.
If you set the histogram on the 'Brightness' display with a RGB file, you get the same result as a reading of channels L in a histogram of laboratory. So clearly, they seem to be the same thing.
The only person who could answer that with authority, is of course, Chris Cox, who wrote much of the code of the Photoshop color management. If all goes well, he sees this.

3D does not work in Adobe Photoshop CC 2015
3D has worked on my Mac Air in 2012. The 3D functionality worked for me when I used Photoshop CS6 extended. He never said that my graphics card any problem. This annoys me especially because Cinema 4 d R17 works which is even better for rendering and sculpture and didn't tell me that my graphics card can be "exceeded". I sometimes use the 3D rendering engine of the Photoshops to make some of my just 3D objects because it was more convenient. But no more.

I didn't know until I did some checking, but whenever someone complains about the 3D plugins, something is wrong.
Chris Cox programs Photoshop and knows what needs to be in the reporting system.
It's sad to say, you have a fake copy and we cannot fix this.

I've been resarching this problem and the bad news comes from Chris Cox who has been programming for Photoshop 20 years:
"You use PowerPC code under Rosetta emulation on an Intel based system - Rosetta became more and more unstable (and Apple got rid of it to 10.7, so they won't be fixing bugs)
Your best solution is to upgrade to a native version of Photoshop Intel. »

Cannot access the 3D features?

Paths created in PS CS5 and saved in a PNG format are not visible in PS CC
I recently upgraded from PS CS5 PS CC. I noticed that paths created on images in CS5 will not display when the same images (saved as PNG) are open in PS CC. In addition, pathed images and recorded (in PNG) CC do NOT show the path is available once the backup is complete. Is it a PNG setting I'm missing? I used the same ones I used in CS5. Paths to other file formats do not appear to be carried out.

Looks like you used to be able to record the paths in png on Mac only. But this feature has been removed in CS6. Here is the response from Chris Cox on similar issues:
Photoshop CS5 would save some additional data in the resource fork, on Macintosh only, outside the normal file format data.
Photoshop CS6 does not only and only put a few icons/thumbnails in the range of resources.
Apple away ranges of resources (give up another competitive advantage), then we must also do away with resource forks. This isn't a bug, it's just the reality, that we face trying to support MacOS.
PNG format does not support data path, or most other metadata of image - just image data, metadata and color profiles very minimal. This isn't a bug, it's just the nature of the PNG format.

Are assets selections 16 or 8-bit
With the progression of Photoshop and the use of the GPU support, can anyone confirm if active selections on a 16-bit image are 16-bit or even 8 bits.
8-bit. The selections are stored as Alpha channels with a range of only 256 tonal values.

Checker task, creating artifacts / white strips!
The edges of my spot corrector is creating white bands and artifacts around the edge of the brush (describing where I'm brushing). The same glitch that happens with the clone and stamp. The amount of glitch seems to vary from very low to annoyingly obvious. The white outline seems to appear after I have let go of the brush.
I took action:
- restart the computer
- upgrade Photoshop to CC, 2015
- deactivation of the GPU
- create a new layer and starting over
- directly change the background layer instead of an empty layer "current and below" value
- same question as you use the tablet or mouse entry
Everyone knows this glitch? I desperately need this to disappear as soon as possible! Thank you!
