  • Explorer.exe causes high CPU usage!

Hi, recently I added new music for my laptop, including both .mp3 and .wav files. As such, I discovered spikes in my use of a CPU
slow from 3% to 63% and more. After research, I came to realized that when a corrupted .wav files containing folder is opened, Windows Explorer calls the Media Foundation (Mf.dll) function to retrieve the metadata of the .wav files. However, Mf.dll function enters an infinite loop during extraction of metadata.

However, only those files are accessible so high use of the processor occurs if, and after that I reload it would return to normal at rest 3%
Research led me to discover that Microsoft has a hotfix.exe application that would help me solve my problem on the other hand, it is not currently available.
Is there anyway that I can fix this?

    Hello

Thanks for posting the question on Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the description, you have the .wav files damaged in a folder on a computer that is running Windows 7.

You have the third-party codecs installed on the computer?

This problem can also occur if you have the codecs installed on the computer and could not play the files.

    Method 1:

Are you referring to this same fix article:

High utilization of the processor in the Explorer.exe process when you open a folder with .wav files corrupted in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/976417

It indicates that the fix is available and you can download and install.

    Method 2:

If the problem persists, perform the check and scan SFC.

Try scanner SFC [SFC system] on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

Hope this information helps. Please reply with the status so that we can help you.

  • Satellite A300 DVD tray will not open and cause high CPU utilization peaks

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 - 1 MM and I have a problem with the optical drive (Mat * un DVD Ram Uj880as):

DVD - RAM plateau sometimes refuse to open. The LED lights up briefly, but still nothing. Windows recognize the drive but the plateau of refuses to open. Eject commands the position of work and management of the computer-> disk management will not work. I can open the tray manually but the optical drive will not read any cd/dvd. No error code in return.

When that happens it cause peaks of high utilization of the processor (from 60 to 100%) in the System Idle Process. Just stop and restart it solve. After that, the laptop also runs fine and the optical drive.

    I replaced Win7 32-bit with a 64-bit version and the problem persist.

    Help, please. Thank you.

I have the same machine with Win7 32 bit and use several players. Everything works perfectly. On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what may be the problem. The configuration of your laptop is not known to us, and we don t know how you set up your operating system and additional applications are preinstalled.

Maybe stupid advice now, but you must install recovery image original Vista that you got with the functionality of your laptop and test with the factory settings. If the same problem occurs we can chat about it.

  • Very high CPU utilization

    Hi all

We have several standards work of the Disqualification created to standardize the data from the source systems. Among all, there are 2 positions causing the CPU usage greater than 97% throughout the work. For the jobs of rest with the same logic, but the source systems different data do not take this as the CPU usage.

Run these 2 high CPU utilization causing positions for 50 k records and also around 1 lakh separately but still the CPU usage remains the same. that is more than 97%. Are there other specific job setting or settings that causes this problem? For the rest, the jobs CPU usage is average only 55%. Performance wise, it is not accepted and PT test sign off is blocked because of this.

    Appreciate your suggestions! @

    Thank you

    Amol 971-505343978

    Hello

Why do you think the high utilization of the processor is a bad thing? On the contrary, Disqualification treat this work as soon as possible. While other jobs [that run at 55%] are i/o bound and probably run a lot faster if you were to set the I/O bottleneck.

    Kind regards

  • Windows Update causes high CPU AND not let me install Windows 10

Windows 7 update has several issues:

1 Windows Update Service causes the CPU usage high - CPU usually works 50% or more with a single SVCHOST.exe running.  I click with the right button on the SVCHOST entry in Task Manager-processes and saw all the services that SVCHOST is still running.  One at a time, I stopped and restarted them.  Finally, when I stopped the Windows Update service, the cpu immediately fell to almost nothing.  I rebooted and tested several times, and each time, it was Windows Update service that was causing the high CPU.

    2. Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor says I could upgrade to Windows 10, and get the icon Windows 10 is in the toolbar.  But it has failed to install several times.  Now, after stopping and restarting the service of updating (and I checked, it is started), the window get Windows 10 rises, is empty and goes.

    3. I ran the Update Diagnostic and got 1 error:

    Windows Update error 0 x 80070003(2016-04-04-T-04_56_09P)

the Details of the Diag Windows Update window said:

    RootCause: RC-DataStore

    Error code: 0 x 80070003

    4. I tried to launch the 'Fixit' for update, but it did nothing.

    5. I tried to update Windows Update WindowsUpdateAgent30 - x 64 .exe Agent,

but it fails with this message:

"Windows Update Agent Installer has met a fatal error"

    6. when I try to start Windows Update-check for updates, it displays the dialog box "check for Updates" and activity indicator green runs and runs and runs for more than 10 minutes but nothing happens.  And when I check the view update history, it shows no updates, even though I know that I've run a LOT of updates in recent years.

    7. I thought to reinstall Windows 7.  I went to download from Microsoft, and when repair installation it activated my key it says that it wasn't a retail version, so check with the supplier (in this case HP).  I checked with HP and they said that this machine was is no longer supported.

    8. on the way I've renamed the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution-Windows SDOLD, force it to create a new (probably why it does not find the old updates).  IT did not help.

So it seems to me this machine is expandable to 10 Windows (it meets the specifications and the Advisor to update Windows-10 said yes and installed the toolbar).  But something is wrong, probably with Windows Updater, and now nothing will be update or upgrade.  And I can't get a new copy of Windows 7.

So, any thoughts?  I'm out of ideas.

    Hi entire,

disable the service in the Services, restart the computer and then re-enable the service.

I tried, I completely uninstalled from Windows Add/Remove Features service, rebooted the PC and re - he added, and same deal.

Anyway I found is what the problem is, it's the korwbrkr.dll, it seems to be related to a Korean dictionary, as if the indexer is you are trying to index something with characters Koreans inside (not aware that I have something like that), and he throws a loop for I renamed the korwbrkr.dll to korwbrkr.bak and it has linked the dictionary file and removed from the search index and I allow the indexer to run all night and it shows that indexing is complete, and I have no more high CPU usage.

I was dealing with high utilization of the processor of the indexer for weeks, now my system is at peace.

  • wifitask.exe causing 100% CPU use

I use Windows 10 and realized that my computer is very slow. I tried to use flash for a meeting and it was so slow it wouldn't load. I checked Task Manager and noticed that my CPU is at 100% usage. I ended up most processes that were not required to run windows nothing helped, but when I closed wifitask.exe, the CPU would go from 30 to 80%. However, after a short time, wifitask.exe causes somehow himself to run and CPU usage was 100%. What exactly does wifitask.exe do? I can remove it or do I have to reinstall something? I also noticed that svchost.exe and lsass.exe use about 25% CPU each but what I've seen, that's normal? wifitask.exe shows that it only uses about 15%, but it's the only thing that removes the CPU usage when I finish it.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I have worked on this all night and to meet soon. Thanks in advance.

Defender (MSE) is by far the cause.  It is using 45 + % CPU and is also the largest process of writing the disk.  Because it is part of the OS, you can not uninstall & re-install so your options are limited.  You can install an app different malware that automatically turn off MSE

There is evidence (on earlier systems) that restricting directories Defender scans can reduce this effect, but I can't find any reference to win 10.

If you decide to change applications malware ESET (eset smart security) and AVG seems to work without any problem in 10122

My computer is running at a snail pace because the svchost.exe uses 100% cpu ALL the time.  It's almost impossible to open and close programs.  I'm only able to use my computer if I stop the process through the Task Manager.  I would like to find a fix for this if possibel so I didn't complete the process each time I want to use the computer. O running all tests antivirus and registery scans I can think.  I thought it must be some kind of virus, but I can't find anything.  Help, please!

You can determine exactly what causes most of the problems by following the steps below:

Method 1: Put the computer in safe mode and see if the problem persists:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Method 2: Clean boot

If the problem is not repeated in safe mode, there is probably a startup item or service is causing the problem. Follow the steps on the following link to locate the item or service responsible for the error:

  • Svchost.exe causing 100% cpu usage during the update of windows, even when disconnected.

I recently had to re - install windows xp on a new hard drive for replacement. My version of xp home edition, SP2 OEM installation disc. (This is ith group included IE6)

Once installed and running, could access windows update.

Read all the threads associated etc. and installed SP3, disc after downloading microsoft on another pc. Installed after three trys, first two caused various mistakes, but third attempt seems OK!

I've also updated the IE6 to IE8, as some sites obviously did not work properly with the older browser.

Now go do the automatic updates, or log for manual updates... BUT!

During the process, my cpu fan comes on fast and permanently! The CPU usage is showing that 100%, pc slows to crawl, the mouse becomes slow etc.

This has never happened before on this machine before you reinstall clean, he had already automatically updated to SP3 and went very well, it was some time ago, before the failure of hard drive, and it has never had this problem!

Only since having to do a cleaning manual update and re - install.

The culprit seems to be svchost.exe, once it is used by the update, running the cpu at 100% and continues to do so EVEN after stopping the service, until I manually stop with the Task Manager!

The svchost.exe instance showing a high is use: SYSTEM.

According to the files of help here, it is a known issue and a fix KB927891 was issued for SP2, but this should NOT be necessary for SP3, and in fact difficulty used to perform anyway under SP3!

Ideas for a guy to fix?

I appreciate the support for XP runs out quickly, and after this update of windows will be redundant, but in the meantime it is always useful!

Also if I turn off the automatic updates, how can I stop this annoying popup warning bubble?... I can't live without updating, but this bubble nag drives you nuts! :)

OK just a update, now running cool and 100% auto update and manual update... How? I hear you ask...

Well I had a beer and a reflection and came to the conclusion, it must be 'order' in which I updated the clean installation of XP.

Origin, I loaded the old OEM disc new hard disk, loaded the drivers etc, then stop at windows update for updated files.

Who told me my old incompatible browser and suggested an upgrade.

I downloaded and installed IE8... still no joy, reading the forums comments I downloaded and installed SP3... which SEEMED to work, BUT then all the hassle of cpu to 100% with the automatic update and updated manual on the windows don't update site!

So I just gritted my teeth, formatted the drive, another OEM of XP Home Edition SP2 installation loaded the drivers, installed a copy saved to SP3 and after restarting, THEN installed a saved copy of IE8 and THEN trotted off the coast to the windows update site... low and behold, it the connection without problem, did a search, and required updates appeared on the screen without delay all 123 of them...! :)

Did the updates, restarted and everything was fine, updates automatic in market and left the machine, after about 30 minutes appears the yellow shield, and it downloads a couple more update files without problem.

All this time I followed the via the Task Manager CPU usage and the strange spike waited 100% apartment, it was on average from 5 to 20%!...so a great improvement has this effect, by simply changing the order of the updates installed from the original! SP3 IE before IE8.

May not work for all have to do a clean install because of the HD failed, but its worked for me, and I am once more a "happy bunny!

    Dave was soon.

I have a HP p6744y and for the last month the CPU worked 100% almost constantly. Read as many blogs ran so many viruses, malware and kill root programs without help. When I check treats all users, it lists svchost.exe sometimes ranked at 90 to the title using 7 236 k memory and local services. How can I make this stop before I kill this computer? • memory leak Winlogon.exe and high CPU usage

I use Windows XP SP3. I'm leaking memory in winlogon.exe (about 5 M/hour). In addition, the CPU usage spikes to 50% of all 6 seconds. The file is properly signed so probably not a virus.

This problem started after the application of last weeks patches.

I seriously doubt that winlogon has a memory leak or people around the world would be screaming about it... and they are not.

If this is what a thing look like, then you have another problem - probably a malware infection, or what you are currently using antivirus/antimalware protection is afflicted.

Looking at previous answers, I would say that McAfee is afflicted, and it is already a well know that McAfee is a memory and CPU hog and you may want to consider replacing with something of less intrusive as Microsoft Security Essentials (do you use McAfee?).

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

What is your Internet browser and version?

What do you see (exactly) that you don't think you should see, and when you see it?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?
