Clarification on iMac 21 "memory

Hi, I want to buy an iMac 21 "and I need a clarification on the configurable compared to the maximum memory at time of purchase. It is written in the configuration page "notes that the iMac 21.5 inches comes with 8 GB built-in memory to the computer." "If you think you may need in the future more memory, it is important to update at the time of the purchase, because the memory cannot be upgraded more later in this model. So I guess that means, if I purchase only 8 GB of memory, I'm stuck with it and I can't upgrade (add memory) later to 16 GB.

BUT if afterwards I need different memory and I decide I need 16 GB, I can scrap (remove) 8 GB and install a memory of 16 GB instead? It is simply because I don't want to spend money for 16 GB if I'm happy with the 8GB...

Thank you.

No, you can't.

  • iMac RAM memory update

    Hello!

I have an iMac 27 "(mid 2011) with four memory RAM locations." Two locations are the original memory of 2 GB (4 GB total). Now, I bought two 4 GB memory. Can I put these new memories in the free slots, or do I have to remove first the 'old' and put new ones in place? The 'old' works with the new?

Simply put the new ram in the empty slots. There is no advantage to win by moving the ram of origin.

  • Clarification needed Pavilion a1120n memory upgrade

First time on the Forum, need for clarification after reading others entry and to collect the necessary information on the PC in question.

HP Media Center Edition Pavilion a1120n

    Processor: Pentium 4 519 (p) 3.06 ghz

Motherboard: Asus LRTP - THE (3 goldfish - GL8E) front bus at 800 mhz

Will support maximum 4 GB of ram

Unit is equipped with 4-240 pin Dimm, unbuffered, non - ECC 533/400 mhz sticks memory memory DDR2, dual channel architecture

This office has 2-258 or 516 MB PC2 3200 DDR SDRAM OEM.  I opened the unit to check for this.

OEM preloaded with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Now, most anyone looking at this request, probably why I'm wanting this on such an obsolete machine...

I have bought new at the beginning of 2005, used the PC for a few months, remarried & it packed to move.  My husband had a Pavilion, so instead of having 2 running side x side, I copied my files in his unit, left (the most recent of the two) packed mine, thinking that we would need it down the road.  The road became long 7 years.  More to the story, but I'll spare you the pain. The only way I can use this material is upgraded to Windows 7 home & I need to increase the memory to install even.  It will be dedicated to the dissemination of music on the internet in the shop, period.

Here are the complete specs for your HP Pavilion a1120n desktop and it is card mother PTGD - THE (Goldfish3). Please consider the purchase of 2 of the CORSAIR 2 GB Kit (2 x 1 GB) 240 pin DDR2 533 (PC2-4200) VS2GBKIT533D2 or 2 of the Crucial 2 GB kit (2 x 1 GB) DDR2-667 PC-5300 #CT475923 to bring your computer to the 4 GB maximum, it supports.

  • Upgrade my iMac 10.1 (late 2009 model)

My family loves our iMac 10.1 (model) end 2009.  We want to move him to a better performance in speed (recently very slow using iphoto, imovie, and web browsing) and capacity (500 G HDD is occupied 85%).  There are 3 areas I want to do the upgrade.  Enjoy for some recommendation or sharing other users

    1. will join 12 G 4 G RAM (because want to keep the original 2 x 2 G). I'll add 2 x 4 G RAM.  Should what model of RAM I buy?

    2. I want to improve the disk from 500 G to 1 T.  I don't know I can't DIY after checking the You Tube.  Apple is offering this upgrade services? There are a few computer shops can do the job but I hesitate

    3. due to the improvement of capacity RAM and HARD drive, I need to update my old Snow Leopard OS to more recent and reliable version.  Should I go straight to the latest version (EL Capitan)? This new OS version will drag my old iMac to be very slow?

  • G7-2235dx - memory Slot defective/made not climb in memory Slot

Recently I bought a package of 4 GB of DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 for my laptop. I received it today and progressed to install after the direcitons given to the user of my laptop manual. But never well switched memory. It seems that the retention clips are not long enough, or there is something blocking the module to go fully into the slot of memory. I found that odd. After finding out that memory does not fit in the slot, I removed the HP factory memory module, it is the crack and tried to put it in the slot of the replacement part or defective. Also, there is no good. Just for clarification, I tested the memory purchased in the slot of the workign and memory works perfectly. I wonder what could be the problem with my memory slot.

I called HP support and they said it would cost me $290 for the slot to be repaired. I find it a lot since I paid $300 for the laptop itself.

    Any help is apprechiated.

A motherboard itself is going to be at least $ 125. There is work. Of course, it does not. I put 4 gigs in it in the a good slot and just use it.

  • LIGHTROOM IS RUINING ORIGINAL IMAGES!

    Hi-

It's crazy!  It happened a few months ago, but I thought it was a bug and now it happened again, and now it's corrupt my original files.

Here is what is happening, at least my actions to date.

Lightroom 4 worked fine and dandy.  No problem whatsoever.  We then moved to LR5.

Now, as I'm in the Library tab through images, as he seems to be pulling a picture shows upward with jagged edges and just - look corrupted.  So I look at the file in the Finder, and now that the image cannot be opened in Photoshop, preview or any other application.  For some reason any previews LR plague the REAL, ORIGINAL images.

    Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.06.54.png

    Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.03.38.png

Now return a month earlier, it happened when it was not a big problem, I had the original RAW files saved, but, now it has damaged at least two folders and the original RAW files cannot be opened.

    Here is the summary:

-Regarding corrupt cameras/discs - I have files Hasselblaad and Canon in doing so.  I have a lot of different cards that have been used in the present.

-It's only when I opened upward to 5 Lighroom.  Otherwise, the files were fine.  JPEG conversions that have been made of these weeks of images were very good.

-It happens to one in every 5 photos or more.   That is A LOT OF PICTURES TO BE CORRUPTED.

For those that I backed up, now I have to go figure out who...... rename them etc.  AND HOPE AND PRAY for this does not happen.

-It says that it cannot open the file.

    Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.34.01.png

And then when I go to the finder, through lightroom, RAW image it does not work to make it even in Photoshop.Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.34.20.png

SO this is corrupting my files so that Photoshop cannot recognize them.  NOT all pictures are affected, just the folders go to Lighroom.  All other files in lightroom (from same camera/day) agree.

IT IS INSANE.  I hope that someone from ADOBE help save me from what seems to be the imminent my entire library Photo RAW destruction if I continue with the LR5.  I have thousands of images from around the world... I would be devistated to know that this product and the situation is not reversible.

It is true that my iMac is older, but I just put 6 GB of RAM from OWC and upgrade 10.7.5 without problem.

    Thank you

This issue started after having added that the RAM and/or 10.7.5 updated iMac? The fact that the G-Drive Mini with LR raw image files work on your MB Pro would indicate a problem with iMac system memory or possibly drivers display.

Download RawDigger, install it on your iMac and try opening the G-Drive Mini LR raw files. It is a much less demanding than LR application and if open files OK this probably indicates that the iMac's faulty memory.

For the iMac problems I start by uninstalling the 6 GB OWC and try LR with just installed Apple OEM memory. I worked 20 years in the design of system memory and the best "memory test" is to run a resident OS application that has the very heavy memory usage. Many questions will be that when you run such applications as LR, which reveal memory stand-alone diagnostic programs. Let me know what you find and we can continue the investigation.

I have an IMAC of 2008 with 2 GB of memory plus 300 GB of storage. If I buy 2GB of memory I'll be able to download Sierra?

    Mike,

No, macOS Sierra is not compatible with your hardware.

    Here is an analytical compatibility.

  • Sierra download on my iMac (24 inch, early 2009) w/8 GB memory

Sierra will not download on my iMac.  I get the following message: "we could not complete your purchase.  This version of macOS 10.12 cannot be installed on this computer. »

I have an iMac (24 inch, early 2009) w / 8GB memory running OS X El Capitan v.10.11.6 that meets the hardware and software requirements for installing Sierra.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sierra requires an iMac Late ' 09 or newer.

  • Help on graphics card memory and upgrade for iMac

    Hello!

I need advice on a good new graphics card for iMac 27 inch end 2012. My work is mainly in animation, Visual effects and game development soon, so I need an additional card to increase my speed.

Currently, I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB card. Do you think I should stick to a similar card? Is there something new that will offer me better performance at an affordable cost?

I don't have much money to spend, but I can certainly use additional graphics now.

I have also 2 remaining memory locations that accepts DDR3 1600 MHz memory module, but it seems that this module is no longer available. If I had to choose between a graphics card and RAM, which should I go with?

Finally, can I install these myself? I don't have any Apple Store around me and I do not trust the computer guys in my area.

First of all, the iMacs are notoriously difficult to make something with except add RAM. Here is a good site where you can get some info on the dismantling, etc.:

    https://www.iFixit.com/

Usually, graphics cards should be replaced with the same model/type of work (if any) - see above site for this kind of info. I'm quite sure that you cannot add just one - iMac is not designed for it.

Regarding the RAM, just check out OWC for necessary RAM:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L

Check that your model is listed. I don't know where you would have been told that the RAM is no longer available (FWIW, Apple does not sell RAM and uses of third party RAM in the new Macs).

I'd go with the RAM - how many do you have now? Adding RAM is easy.
