Clone Stock HDD to new 850 EVO Pro - T440s

Hi all

I was wondering if there is a good tutorial somewhere on the right sequence of steps to successfully clone my HDD to the SSD Pro 850.

I'm more curious about what had to be done before, during or after the process of cloning (AHCI?) the bios settings

I bought a USB 3.0 to SATA cable to facilitate the process, but do not know if I take the old drive first and connect it to the cable, or connect the SSD drive on the cable and start the process.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind regards

Hello

1. download the cloning sw on the Samsung support site. This sw is free.
2. connect the new SSD to usb-sata cable, keep the HARD drive inside the laptop. Hope there is enough output to the USB port to power SSDS.
3. install sw you have downloaded and run that one.
4. perform all of cloning (!) HDD to the SSD, not selected partitions. You can even choose the automatic mode. It will resize the SSD partitions in the HARD drive of the proportions. Later, you can resize them yourself, manage you want, using the OS Disk Manager.
5. no need to change the configuration of the BIOS settings. Of course, the AHCI mode is a good choice.
6. Exchange of disks, resize partitions, manage them. If the OS is win7, reinstall Lenovo R & R

Or use another free tool, Macrium Reflect. It also has backup and restore features.

The panic occurred because the queue of the AHCI is truncated. Thus all things SATA are immediately suspect.

These extensions on the "scene of the crime" are used ordinary ACHI drivers for SATA drive.

In your added kernel extensions, you have an additional driver for RocketRAID. If possible, you should remove only while debugging this problem. It was not explicitly on the "crime scene", but it may have made changes that caused the instability.

In addition, readers could be involved in this problem, as a failed drive can spray data in the wrong section of memory, rewrite of things.

  • Pavilion dv6 3100: unable to start pavilion dv6 3100 again clone Samsung ssd 850 evo

Im trying to upgrade the HDD to the SSD.  Tried a Samsung ssd - 850 EVO 500 GB after cloning, using Samsung data migration software.  However, Windows will not start since the new cloned ssd.  I get a black sreen showing, "windows does not have start message and all... and shows--

    File:------Boot\BCD.

    Status: 0x000000f.

Info: an error occurred while trying to read the boot configuration data. »

Samsung Wizard is not able to find data on the ssd.  I looked up and gathered a lot of information and did everything I could.  Disk Manager recognizes the device when connected via USB (for cloning).  Device Manager displays the storage as -«IDE...» SATA/AHCI controller... ».   I enabled AHCI in the regedit - the HKEY_LOCAL... Msahci, IastorV, etc.  I also updated all the possible drivers and firmware and BIOS (f29).  Yet once the ssd is connected and placed in the drive Bay, Windows just would not start.

I'm an amateur, pretendng to be an "expert"!

    Someone please help!

Ive been away for a few days.  Sorry for this late reply.

I have treid sfc/scannow - did not work.  Not sure it'll work, I was not ready to move to another

$50 on Acronis software cloning.  So, in the end, I opted for a clean install of windows7 operating system, using my own system recovery disks that I created previously.

Every thing looks and works perfectly.  Samsung magician is able to detect the ssd by his real name (and not as ASMT 2115) and also shows that the AHCI is enabled. The time spent was worthwhile.

    Thank you.

  • Samsung 850 EVO Solid State Drive works only with the MacBook Pro - Solution?

I recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Solid State Drive for mid 2012 MacBook Pro father. The computer was working properly, but it was just very slow. I took the old drive and installed the SSD. I took it to an Apple store so that they could install the OS. A guy at the Genius Bar met with me and first tried to install the OS via the Ethernet cable. It is impossible to install some general error. He then tried to install it on a disc. Which also failed. He said he was not familiar with the type of error that he saw. But he said it was a mistake 'bad '. He said he saw the SSD for my SATA cable worked. He concluded that the reader must be defective. I explained how it is virtually impossible because they have a rate of close to zero. He said: "well they are produced en masse" and explained how they could install a hard drive themselves for some too expensive price. A bit annoying.

In any case, I took the SSD back to my house and threw it in my desktop PC. It works very well. Then what should I do? Why am I not able to get the SSD to install it? From what I read, the Samsung 850 EVO should be compatible with a MacBook Pro 2012. Can I do to install it at home? Is that all I can say people at the Mac store to help them along?

Most likely, the drive is formatted for use with Windows computers. First step would be to format correctly for Macs.

This is Mac OS extended (journaled) with a GUID partition map.

OS X will only be installed on a properly formatted disk.

  • Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower - for SSD Samsung 850 Evo BIOS settings

Hi - I am looking to replace the HARD drive in my Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower with a Samsung SSD of 850 EVO.  I am running the BIOS 1.0.16 and do not see the option AHCI, RAID or IDE only.  Should what BIOS settings I use to optimize the performance of an SSD benefits?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I could get my SSD working under RAID (10 Windows) with the following steps (which some may not be necessary).

    1. MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable 9 CD to clone a copy of the existing for the Samsung SSD HDD (Samsung data migration tool did not acknowledge the Samsung SSD on Windows 10, even though Device Manager it identified as such).  It took nearly 36 hours to clone froma 160 GB 250 GB HDD to the SSD.
    2. Replace HDD with SSD and it started / worked as an IDE drive.  TRIM has been activated and works.
    3. Apply the hotfix to the register noted in the first post of this thread (it may or may not be necessary):
      1. http://forums.HEXUS.NET/motherboards/112584-how-enable-AHCI-RAID-mode-without-reinstalling-Windows-P35-ICH9-ICH9R.html
    4. Downloaded the Intel Matrix Storage Manager 7.5.0.1017 A00 (which is appropriate for the Vostro 200 Slim Tower) from the Dell Web site and run the extracted exe file on the disk.
    5. Opens the folder where the drivers have been extracted and made a right click > install iaahci.inf and iastor.inf files.
    6. Restarted the PC, went into the BIOS and changed the IDE in RAID mode.
    7. When the system is booted, I received the message "Inaccessible Boot Device", so I let the system automatically restarts, go through the automatic recovery/repair options, then follow the guests to launch the advanced Windows options recovery to start in safe mode.
    8. Once in safe mode, I opened the Device Manager, which now showed the following new features:
      1. Disc players

        1. SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO 500G
      2. Storage controllers
        1. Intel(r) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller
        2. Microsoft storage controller
    9. The system is then able to start and be used normally.
    10. There are still problems with the Samsung Wizard software, but it seems that it is a matter of Samsung.

Hope this is useful to someone.

  • Samsung 850 EVO and TRIM?

    Dear friends,

Yesterday, I installed a brand new SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD (120 GB) on my MacBook Pro (mid-2012) and I want to know now I should activate TRIM and is it safe under the OS X EL CAPITAN!

Once again his SAMSUNG 850 EVO (120 gb, basic version non pro), MacBook Pro (mid-2012) and OS X EL CAPITAN!

Hi, you can activate the trim after you have backed up your important things. I enabled it and don't have any problem and better see the SSD performance, but some of my friends in the face of a gray screen at startup upward.

Also, I can say that you will not have problem as long as Apple allow you to do something on your Mac

  • Samsung 850 EVO Trimforce

Hi, I recently installed a samsung 850 EVO my end 2011 MacBook Pro and I have read the weather or not, it is safe to turn on third-party SSD trimforce. But I couldn't find a solid answer anywhere. I also learned that there may be a bug in data loss with the Samsung models, but I'm not sure that this is true.

You will get different views about the FILLING. Personally, I don't use the TRIM on 3rd party SSD. I do not quite written deserve its usefulness. So, I leave the built-in SSD Garbage Collection performance of the drive. That being said, I don't know of friends who have enabled on their Samsung 850 EVO SSD of TRIM and have not experienced any problems with corruption data.

It's yours if you want to activate the TRIM on your Samsung.

Yes the DV6000 by DV6499 series with AMD processor is not able to support an SSD. The storage controller uses a SATA interface, but it is 'false' SATA running on a legacy IDE bus. No ahci, which is necessary for the operation of the SSD. That's why we put Windows XP on them without any special driver tips during installation.

  • New 13 "Macbook Pro - leave it on or turn off?

Bought a new 13 "Macbook Pro. What is the right way to use it? I'm on the computer all day, usually early in the morning and again in the afternoon. The last computer I bought they advised me to just leave all the time and put it to sleep. Now some say to turn it off. What is the right way to get the most life out of my computer? Thank you!

Have sleep/power nap when not use.

Once a month drain to 10% battery and then recharge it fully.

  • connection with a 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD HD problems

I recently bought 4 Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SSDS that are recommended by Convergent design to be used with an Odyssey 7 q + VCR. In order to get the images on the timeline of Final Cut, I put on a SATA Adapter USB 3 SSD drives (mine is powered) and use software, once the disc appears on the Finder. Problem is that none of these Samsung 850 EVO appear on the finder. I checked my SATA USB adapter by plugging another brand of SSD drive. It works perfectly.

Could someone help me with this issue? With a price of around $450, I don't really want these SSD drives to put useless due to a problem of Apple...

I even tried to force allow the filling with this command: 'sudo trimforce enable', not work.

  • I have a new mac book pro, I need to copy my stuff from my old mac pro book

Hi all, I just splashed the money and got myself a new mac book pro, without the DVD player.

Now I would like to transfer all my stuff from my old book of mac pro, the easiest way and fastest possible.

while I was in the store to spend my money, the guy told me that I can do by connecting two computers together via Firewire/stroke of lightning and using Time Machine!

I have an adapter Firewire/Thunderbolt and a Firewire cable :-)

But I would like to have someone, somewhere to point me in the right direction so that I'm not kidding, I did it this way before, are there details step by step anywhere please, I don't can find any info anywhere else!

Thanks for looking and if you can help/advise so much better :-)

    Tim

The 'easier and faster way' is to boot your old MacBook Pro in target disk mode and follow the instructions to move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support.

Instruction to start in disc Mode target-> share files between two computers with target - Apple Support disk mode
