cloning disk hard question

Hi, I have a situation where I want to duplicate existing content from a Mac Mini 2.1 running Snow Leopard-

a new end of 2012 i7 Mini - who came to me with Mt.Lion already installed.

Should I expect any problem if I use Carbon Copy Cloner for this task?  I'm thinking that I need to first

reformat the HD of the new Mini - but fact a while since I did anything like that, and assuming that the CCC will be

have some instruction somewhere on the process.  As long as the target firewire is always an option, I did not

Figure he would have no problem using the CCC... I was just wondering if there are any known issues, that I should be aware of before

I perform this task?  Why 10.6?  It is stable and I have a few recording applications that work very well with it, but maybe not

with the most recent OS. They may not be able to be reinstalled on a newer OS. It mainly for recording.

Thank you!

Mike

You shouldn't have any problem with that. Yes, you have to first format in disk utility.

  • How do I change or remove the password disk HARD on my Tecra A9

    Hi all

I looked for where I could, but didn't find any indication at all, so I'm asking here.

I have a Tecra A9 in need of resettlement, what I like to do for me.
I have a very good password on the HARD disk which I do not wish to give. So I want to change it or remove it completely.

Please someone, how do I do? In the BIOS, I don't see that it has been defined, but all what I try, I can not change or get rid of it.

Maybe I should add that since the original installation of the PC it was years ago and I don't remember not the 'Administrator' password.

Everything is under control. I know the 'controller' password and have already successfully removed the BIOS password. Smart TPM is disabled.

BUT what the disk hard drive password?
    Any help much appreciated!

    Hello

I hope that you use the correct and just HARD drive password because it of necessary to remove and delete the existing HARD disk password.
If you have forgot the password for HARD drive then the HARD drive should be locked and you would not be able to unlock the HARD drive!

Generally, the HARD drive password can be deleted in the BIOS.
Please ensure that another password would be removed too.

  • Satellite L15-S104: update disk HARD 120 GB stock 40 GB

I have a Satellite L15-s104 laptop I want to improve the stock 40 Gig drive to a 120 GB 5400 RPM 8 Meg Cache hard disk my question is how can I delete the old harddrive. I need step by step instructions. Also is my portable drive an ATA-6 or ATA - 100

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

Your laptop HARD drive is IDE (ATA-6). I don't really know what is the maximum capacity of the disc HARD can be used on your laptop, but I assume that 80 or even 100 GB should not be a problem.

Unfortunately there is no public document on this subject. Hardware upgrade is not directly supported by Toshiba and this will be done by authorized service partners. Try to contact them. They should know for sure if you can use 120 GB HARD drive.

In the lower corner, you will find the HARD drive cover fixed with two screws. Remove this cover. You will see him removing the drive is pretty easy. Disconnect the connector HARD drive mounting (out).

After having done that, you should remove 6 screws that attach the HARD drive bracket and remove the HARD drive bracket.

  • How to clone disk HARD of backup/restore for ideapad with pre-installed win8 and recovery button work?

    Hi all

I recently bought a y510p ideapad. It came with pre-installed win8, and I have no recovery CD. I intend to play with linux on this laptop, but do not want to lose win8. So before I have potentially immediately reformat, I think to make a copy of clone of my HDD on an external USB drive. The general plan is like that,

    1. make a copy of mobile on external USB HARD drive

2 mud with linux - and foolishly autour reformat the entire process

    3. have fed up with linux and want to return to windows

4 copy of retrospective data from usb driver external HDD latop

5 return to the comfort of win8

With the help of this tool (clonezilla) will work in the above scenario?

    http://www.MakeUseOf.com/tag/free-advanced-hard-drive-cloning-solution-from-Clonezilla/

If not, are there any other alternatives (free if all goes well) I could use?

My intention with the backup, is that after that I have 'restore' things, "a key recovery" button should continue to work as before.

Make the plan will cause OKR is not functioning properly. To prove this to get a hard drive of exact size and make a clone of hard disk of the device. Remove the hard drive from the unit and place the disc clone hard inside. You can now play with the disk hard clone to your hearts desire but OKR first test if it still works. Even if OKR no longer work, you can proceed with the installation of linux. Once you're disgusted with Linux everything you have to do is replace the hard disk clone with the original hard drive and you're back to win with OKR 8 still works.

  • I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp.

I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp. Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?  I would that all is the same except the size of your hard drive will be increased.

Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?

    Yes.

You use the disk cloning software.  In some cases, a new player may even be bundled with software that will do this for you.

Unless your laptop has a second drive Bay (most don't), you will also need an external hard drive enclosure.  As a general rule, these connect via the USB port, although if your laptop has a connector FireWire or eSATA you can also use these interfaces.

You must select your external enclosure based on 3 criteria: the type of connection to the laptop. the physical size of the disc (2 1/2 inches for computer laptop drives); and player interface (determined by the connection of the internal drive of your laptop). For example only (no recommendation), if you wanted an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive "which connects using USB 2.0, Newegg has 17 products

The (slightly) more expensive items among the software, you will need.  For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602 this particular House will work with SATA or IDE drives.

If you buy an external enclosure that doesn't include cloning software, the software may be available for free from the manufacturer of the new 320 GB drive (e.g., http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • "Disk hard test" failed

My laptop was not starting and then to a system diagnostics page, advising me to do a hard drive Test. I did, and then he led me to a screen saying:

    "Disk hard Test" failed

    "Hard drive 1 SMART" (301)

    "Hard drive 1 QUICK" (303)

    'Hard drive 1 FULL' (305)

Diagnostics of the system... and then it just says: tests of f1 - f4.

What would the next step from here? I'll try some of the different tests.

    Thank you, Leah.

    Hi Lea,.

All error codes (301 is a Smart failure with 303 & 305 respectively being the short & Long drive Self Test failed) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the question of commissioning.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, please let me know - include the full model number and the laptop Nr - see here for an explanation.

  • Services Windows problems after cloning a HARD drive

    Hello

I recently cloned my HARD for one SSD drive, using the SSD as my boot device. Since then, I was able to successfully access Windows services.

For example, I've tried to expand a partition on my SSD and went to computer management. I got a message saying that it

"cannot open log events on the computer service.

I click OK and the computer management opens.

Clicking on device management, I get a long enough message that appears that says

'Disk management could not open Virtual Disk Service (VDS) [name of the hard drive]. This can occur if the remote computer does not support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it has been blocked by a firewall of Windows. For more information see on diagnose and correct this problem, see Troubleshooting Disk Management by using disk management. »

I click OK and the message disappears.

If I click on Services and Applications in the left pane I get WMI control and Services in the central pane.

I double-click on Services, scroll down to virtual disk, double-click anywhere on the line, I get

"Windows could not open the service of virtual disk for playback on the local computer. Error 1726 the remote procedure call failed. »

Is someone can you please tell me what is happening? What have I done? Why am I not able to access disk management?

I tried sfc/scannow and I get the message

"Protection of resources Windows could not start repair service".

    EEK! What have I done?

Thanks for the help, but I thought about it.

I had turned off by mistake in my BIOS PATA, and causing the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, however. It's very appreciated.

  • I get an error "the disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state. Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again. "during the installation of XP mode.

I have Win7 Pro SP1 x 64.  I downloaded WindowsXPMode_en - us.exe (from Microsoft downloads) and run it.  The installation seems to work OK (I've specified a different location for the parent virtual hard disk file).  Then, installation happening and I provide the information requested (name of user and password for the XP Mode), updates Windows and OK to the issue of sharing.  The installation program then reports the following error:

The disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state.  Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again.

I get the error even if I try manually configure XP Mode (use the Setup Wizard).  I downloaded the installer XPMode (3 times) and reinstalled several times, always with the same result.  If it helps, I can't locate anywhere .vsv file.

    Any idea what's going on?

  • Cloning the hard drive on desktop PC Inspiron 620

New Member, first post here, great resource.

I work a friend with his desktop computer Dell Inspiron 620; 3.5 years.  The hard drive begins to run out, but computer still works fine right now.

I ordered a recovery and support on the way via Dell out of warranty support in case the disc falls in catastrophic failure before we get to this.  But rather than use this recovery media, reload the operating system, drivers, all applications, customization, etc.  I'm thinking of 'cloning' of the current hard drive while the original hard drive is still operational.

I have never cloned a drive before, but I understand that this would be the procedure. I buy a new identical replacement hard drive (found a 3.5 Sata 1 TB size) and also buy an external USB enclosure for the new disc, connect the new drive via a USB cable, start the cloning software, and then install the disc cloned when cloning is done in the computer?

No disadvantage of 'cloning' vs reload the operating system?  Any recommendations of any free cloning software, I consider using?   Cloning especially appealed to me because it is a highly customized small business computer.  Get this computer to its current state the long way is certainly feasible, but I want to do the simplest possible.

Thanks in advance for help people...

There is no need to buy an external enclosure, just install the drive to be cloned as secondary, all you need is a SATA data cable, there is a spare SATA power connector already within the chassis, for an additional HD.

The simplest method I prefer is to clone the existing hard drive to the new, that will also transfer all applications and programs.

You need an imaging utility, similar to True Image Home 2016.

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage

Acronis resize partitions transferred to match the size of the new hard drive.

I also found the free version of AOMEI of Backupper to be excellent and have used it with great success with Windows 8.1 and 10

    http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html

Hard drive manufacturers, also have their own free cloning software available, but it can be used only with their hard drives.

First, install the new drive as the secondary and the image of the main hard drive in it.

Immediately after the cloning, shut down the system, switch the data cable [SATA port 0] to the new disk, making the new master hard drive and see if the system boots properly.

Start the system with only the new hard drive connected.

Be sure to leave the original drive disconnected, until the new hard drive is working to your satisfaction.

Before cloning a hard drive, make sure that the existing drive has no corruption or virus on it, because they will be transferred to the new hard drive.

As we already mentioned, it will take a second SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

    Bev.
