Code 80070490 and SP2
I just looked here and finally I am pleased to learn that the relatively new "Fix it" solution that should automatically fix this problem that I've had for a few months now. However, my question is, if I'm about to apply the SP2 update manually - be it solves the problem anyway, or do I still "Fix it" anyway? And, if the latter, is it important order in which they are applied to? Thank you.
Hi Piphel,
Thank you for visiting the forum of the response of Microsoft Vista.
I would like to go ahead and try the Fix - It solution before updating manually with SP2. If it works, it will take the conjecture of the upgrade.

Your operating system is corrupted. To eliminate the problems on your computer, you need to restore factory settings and rebuild your computer system.
A recovery of the system partition contains a copy of the operating system as it was when the computer was purchased new. Using the copy of Vista, you can restore the computer to factory settings. Of course you must back up your data files to an external before restoring support as the process reformats the disk thus clearing all existing files before writing new files.
Please read Chapter 13 (page 33) Manual:
5738 http://global-download.Acer.com/GDFiles/document/generic%20UG/generic%20UG_Acer_1.0_A_A.zip?acerid=633967123940952836&STEP1=notebook&Step2=aspire&step3=aspire & OS = ALL & LC = en & BC = ACER & SC = EMEA_27The manual suggests that you have an option to restore the operating system and retain user data that I've not seen in a manual before. It is worth trying because it reduces the work involved but I would again as a precaution, back up your data files on external safety precaution if things go wrong.

problems installing SP2 and code 80070490
I am trying to install SP2 manually because my updates do not work. Once I download it, it tells me that I have to install SP1 first. According to my system, I'm already running with SP1. Don't know what to try before you take it into the store. Any suggestions? I tried to uninstall SP1, and then reinstall it, but it is not in the list of updates to uninstall. I don't know what is happening.
I also get the error code 80070490 when I try to check the updates. The Help Center tells me to do something with the disc, but as usual, I do not have a. It came not with my computer, even if the program doesn't, do not know why they do not give you the drive. I was wondering if there was a way to get one if my computer is under the age of one year, or what I have to do. I want to try to solve this problem on mine before you take it to the store. I absolutely don't want to pay $ 300 to $ 400 for a disk when I already have the product.

Problem - when I try to update Windows Update (manual and automatic) I get the error code 80070490
I tried - system restore, download and pay for 'RegCure' and following the instructions on the Microsoft forum without success.
The computer was shipped with a recovery disc that has no installation to 'fix '.
If you have a solution that does not involve a complete re - load I would be very grateful
Please make understandable instructions for a non-techie!Thank you
There is an article on this issue in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3ben-us%3B958044&x=10&y=4So I think that you need to reinstall the computer with the recovery disc.
Boot from the diskette or press F8 at startup, choose "repair your computer".
and follow the instructions in the menu.
Then the HARD drive will be formatted so back up your data.
