Compac Presario CQ57-229WM: failure of Compac Presario CQ57-229WM Memory Module

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One or maybe two sticks of memory failed. If it's not very common to have two fail - it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both if you can afford it. You could also spend 4 GB of the 2 GB, you have now.

Crucial is always a reliable source of memory and they have single sticks or a set. Click on 'Show memory more compatible upgrades' under the memory listed to see the simple sticks and sets:

http://www.crucial.com/USA/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/Presario-cq57-229wm

You can remove a memory stick at a time and run the test to determine if one or both is a failure. Your interview Guide & shows how remove and replace memory:

  • HP Pavilion DV71-4100 Memory Module failure

    Hello

My product is a HP Pavilion laptop as follows:

    Product: ww181av

    Model: DV71-4100

    Series: [personal information]

My phone worked terribly slow and I thought I had a virus.  Analyses have shown that I have not.  I ran HP diagnostics and came with a memory Module failure with the following information:

    Failure ID: m89jxt-5A76KO(or 0)-xdOO(or 00) 2 k-4o(or 0) 2eO (or 0) 3

    Part ID: 181AV

Sorry for the question O/0.  I don't know if this is o or zeros.

Is it a simple part replacement (IE a chip memory) and if so can I order and install myself?  Or is it something I need to take to an HP repair center in THE West somewhere (assuming there is one)?  An idea of the cost?

    Thank you!

    [Personal information]

    Hello:

You should be able to do the replacement yourself. This is a great do it yourself project for the first time.

The first thing you need to do is to determine which module of memory is bad (if your laptop has two modules are installed, and many of them do).

I use a very technical but very effective method to determine which.

First remove the a/c and battery power (always do when you work inside the laptop).

Remove one of the memory modules. I leave the battery, then plug the power of a/c.

Turn on the PC. If it starts, and that you do not get the failure error memory then you were lucky and found the bad chip on the first try.

If it does not start or if you get an error, turn off the PC, unplug the unit, remove the bad chip and replace it with the first one you removed. The PC should now start and run OK.

So, now that you have found the bad chip, you must know how much GB is. Normally, it's on the sticker.

Just buy the same chip memory size with the same characteristics.

    You need a DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module.

If you let me know which module of memory of size you need (2 GB, 4 GB), I'll post a link to a site that sells the memory at low prices.

Depending on which chip the size you need, replacement costs must not exceed $40,00.

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.

The memory of the removal and replacement procedures are given in Chapter 4.

    OSHDK

    OSHDK, welcome to the forum.

You have the maximum amount of memory installed.  However, you can perform a system recovery:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-CQ5200-desktop-PC-series/3999467/model/4048603/how-to

This will return your computer in its original configuration to increase the performance of the system.  Installing and uninstalling programs leave remnants of them, which, over time, will begin to slow down the computer.  Must make a backup of your personal data before you start.

Please click on the Thumbs up button '+' if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • Presario CQ61 Max Memory

I bought a Presario CQ61 a couple of years ago and I wanted to replace its sticks of 2 x 2 GB with something a little bigger.

Now, I read online that the maximum memory it supports is 4 GB, but I do not understand if it is a single stick, or the maximum limit that the system can manage total.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Your computer's specifications indicates the overall maximum that 4 GB - IE maximum 2 GB by location.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61: BSOD - memory management error

    Hello

So, I have my other laptop, Compaq Presario CQ61. For like 5 or 6 months I had a lot of problems with it, like freezes, BSOD-s and not to forget that convenience store was down. I transferred all personal files on the external HARD disk and decided to reinstall Windows (7 - legal copy), hoping that the problem will be solved, but in vain. Finally, I installed Windows 8 Pro, because as said in the forums, people, it may be a problem with the installation disc. For like 4-5 days my HP laptop was running well, all the updates that are installed (haven't seen it lately), I just thought it was a miracle and my problem is solved. Today, he appeared. BSOD. After reinstall or to install both versions of Windows, I had, it is my belief that it is a hardware problem. I tried the memory management test and the result was something like "problems were found, contact your manufacturer. So my question is, is it a problem of RAM or a HARD drive? I've heard both versions, and if someone had in the past has the same symptoms as my laptop and he managed to cope, please enlighten me as well. Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Calin1 ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I looked in your question about your Compaq Presario CQ61 and works very well, and then get the BSOD and stop. I recommend to restore the default BIOS settings if you can get it to go to the screen. You could restore the BIOS with this document by selecting the reload the default BIOS settings. No restoration. Restore default BIOS is necessary because I think that this will solve the BSOD.

Here is a link to solve the BSOD if the restoration of the BIOS does not help.

If this does not help at the end of the document it tells you to do a test equipment.

The hardware test indicates if any parts are missing or have problems.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

  • Compaq Presario CQ60-249US memory upgrade

I have a compaq cq 60 laptop. It has 4000 Mb usable memory, I can only increase. What would you recommend as a maximum memory. What is the BIOS level would be required.

    Appreciate the help

The maximum capacity that supports the motherboard of your laptop is 4 GB.

If you already have 4 GB installed, then this is the most that it will support.

  • Compaq presario cq62 available memory problem

HAV CQ62 with 32-bit amd processor windows 7. OK came with 4gig RAM.  SYSTEM to CHECK that this gives 4gig ram and the RAM available media 2.99gig. OK so update the 8gig Ram to run faster, but it always has in the area of the SYSTEM memory available is stil 2.99gig. Check the resource monitor and it is much too hardware reserved RAM greater than 5, 000mbites. Don't put the bios to F036 more later still no joy... So makes no difference if ram increass or decrease the maximum value available for use is still not more not less 2.99gig. How can I get this laptop to use more ram. Just won't happen and even went in the bios before and after upgrade it and problem still HAV run out of solutions, tried to change things in bios and tried mapping for ram, but this laptop can not find in the bios like in the series c700... must be a way easier to solve the problem and just ridiculous amount of ram reserved for material that cannot change. I have another laptop cq62 series processor is intel 64-bit win 7 and set at the same level system size of ram and it works well and only left 300 MB of ram reserved for strange material... I even swapped the sims that laptop and put in the earlier one and by the way the 4gig memory probs cq62 model is cq62-115tx single horn well resource monitor Ok AMD PROCESSOR has these numbers:-MATERIAL reserved 5131MB, in COURSE OF USE 1143 MB, updated THE 81 MB, STANBY 923 MB, 913 MB FREE and summarized the AVAILABLE States 1836 MB down caching 101MB, MO 36061 TOTAL, 8192 MB INSTALLED... SO if modified installed 4192 mb or 4gig ratio breaks down, but the MATERIAL RESERVE remains the same... OK if I PUT on 2GIG SIM in the phone starts not at all no matter what so help dilemma Please guys

As long as you have a Windows license key for typing in the prompt, it should work.

If the PC supports the 64-bit installation disk at startup I'm sure that all of the internal components will have 64-bit drivers.  Plug in the main series is the processor. If it is not 64-bit, you can go no further.

You cannot run the disk 64-bit from the desktop. You will have to boot from it.

  • Stop error blue screen

I did experience windows restarts due to the stop as 000000 c 2 or 100008e error. First I reinstalled windows and all adjacent software, but it seems that the problem is to hit me again. Last week I have connected my laptop to the internet and since then I had two windows suddenly reboots. I don't think it's a virus, because I'm under Kaspersky, with a Sygate firewall and spyware real-time protection shield real Ad-Aware. Could you please give me an opinion on these issues.

    Hello

Believe me; It is very difficult to say what's wrong.
The Blue error screen usually occurs because of a hardware failure or / and serious malfunctions of software. If this error occurs after installation quite clear, so I guess that it s a hardware failure. Maybe the flaws of memory module. But to be 100% sure you should check it out. I think the best way is to contact the service.

Laptop starts but hangs at the Compac logo screen. It is not even make to the Windows startup screen. I have to stop it, remove the battery, reinsert the battery & it starts perfectly. This should be done whenever I want to use. When I do this it still takes a while to fully fill the start up & get online. For months, it takes a long time to shut down when Im done with it. I ran the disk check, but it stops nearly 80 percent by the 4th scan process. I have Windows 7 Home Edition

    Hi there @akanyr,

Thank you for joining the Forums HP's Support and welcome! It is a great place to ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I read your post on the Forums of HP Support. I wanted to join you and help! I understand that your notebook is suspended to the Logo of Compaq screen.

If the computer hangs at the Compaq logo screen, try to clean the vents from the computer to the air and then restarting the laptop.

Please note , remove all USB devices. Disconnect all devices of non-essential, as these can cause some problems.

Have you tried a hard reset?

Have you tried to Test for hardware failures?

Are - that you receive error messages or error codes?

Follow these steps to remove and reinsert the memory modules for troubleshooting:

FatherDal wrote: Dear Hanspuppa, thank you very much for your help.  Actions suggested by your response seems to have solved my problem.

Hello FatherDal, it's really good news. If you have determined that your system has at least one memory defective Strip, and you want to replace the defective module, you can consider replacing all the memory modules and purchase of some additional memory that can increase the performance of your system.

Here is the link to the specifications for your system. It shows that your system shipped with 2 GB of memory system.

It also shows the system supports up to 4 GB of memory system and your system shipped with Vista x 86 (32 bit).

All 32-bit operating systems can only recognize up to 3.25 GB to 3.5 GB of memory. The x 64 bit version can recognize 4 GBs whole memory system.

I would say that the upgrade of your system memory to 4 GB into 4 X 1 GB modules. Even if your current operating system would recognize the 4 GBs set of system memory, you should see a performance increase with additional memory.

Here is the memory critical link where you can buy compatible memory for your Compaq system.

  • Presario CQ5110F: COMPAQ Presario CQ5110F adding a second hard drive and...

Good so I took the lead when writing my original post on how to combine the two computers successfully.
Not enough research, no question, just a little say aloud... Sorry about that.
    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware-and-upgrade-questions/HP-Pavilion-slimline-s3505f-amp-...

I had little time today messing with both ' puters and discovered...
They need a good cleaning and had.
The noise of the Presario is indeed the fan on the radiator, it's just old and tired. Who cannot be strong in a music room; new fan may not be too expensive.
So I decided the Presario is my starting point.

I would add the hard drive of the Slimline as slave; they have different connectors tho.

    (1) if I just unplug the V2000 CD reader (that has the straight plugs) and use them to connect the second hard drive will I just lost my CD player? It is very good.
    (2) what parameters of rider (if any) do I need to have on each disc? Do not see outside the car Slimlines.

I looked closer 2 slots for RAM and noticed that beside them there seems to be 2 places in addition to the Board of Directors, unused with no present holders plastic.

    (3) is it possible to add more slots and double the RAM? I would get 8 + GB and a 64-bit system end by ;~)

Neither office seems to have the ability to run 2 monitors as is. No problem 29 "should do for now.
Can't see a way to take the card out of the Slimline wireless and put it in the Presario. Internet not immediately necessary, hard connection cable always an option.

All the other tips and advice on how to optimize my sytem are also welcome.
Thank you for your time and helping an old guy handyman.

According to the manual, yes it can accept up to 8 GB memory DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM. See this video on: 33 in there where is flush with the memory. This technology never removes the memory but you just spread the retaining clips and remove and then follow again. See the second video.
