computer ignoring C:

My computer seems to be installing new programs and downloaded the files on my E: drive, which is a disk storage used for old content, rarely used.  My C: drive is 1.72 free TB while my E: drive is free 536KO.  How to instruct new that it be stored on the C: drive?

I often receive messages indicating that my E: drive is out of space.  If I have the option to decide where to place a file I put it on C: but I still do not have this option. Help please.

You now see the reason why your software goes to the E: drive. The remedy is not quite simple. Here are a few options:

(a) you can hack the registry and force these settings on C: drive. You must also go to E: to C:. You risk that some programs run is longer because they have been installed to run off E: and will continue to dribble E: - if they can. Those who fail, you will need to re - install.

(b) you could leave the registry it is, but any move to to C: E:. To avoid problems, you must create a number of junction points that redirect the reference to the E: drive to the C: drive. This solution is safe, but requires a good amount of expertise to a maintenance level. I would like to ask a computer-savvy friend to attend, in person or giving him access to your machine remotely.

(c) you can use a partition manager to resize your partitions.

    Hello

Are you able to press F8 while the laptop is turned on?
To do this and check if you can choose the option repair my computer, then the HARD drive recovery.

You should also check the BIOS.
Immediately after pressing the power button, press F2. This allows you to access the BIOS. You can then check if the HARD drive is recognized.

Not so easy to find a solution to this problem without the BSOD code, as said Akuma.

Did you change or update a driver? If you did that, maybe that's the problem.

You can test your RAM or a HARD drive with special tools.

For the use of drive HARD Hitachi Drive Fitness Test [www.hitachigst.com]. Alternatively, you can boot from a CD.

Computer goes into hibernation during the (provided by Cox) McAfee virus scan.  Tried to create the power of scanning only management plan.  Tried to change the recommended power HP plan. Tried scanning in the administrator ID.  In all cases the computer ignores the settings and falls asleep.  Firstly, the screen goes black, then the laptop on the USB LED fan cooler matrices is.  Now, he's asleep.  I hit the button ENTER and the user login screen.  I connect and the scan continues.  The first time it happened I left running the scan and returns a few hours later and the scan was started.  The only way I found to a full scan is by sitting in front of the computer and hitting the key enter every time the screen goes black.  It prevents switch to "standby" mode and the analysis ends in just over an hour.

How can I prevent the computer asleep then the scan will finish without supervision.  I was able to do it on the laptop of HP running Vista that I used five years before it crashed and I replaced it with this one.

  • HP Touchsmart 600 - remote control issues

I have 3 questions on the remote control for my HP TouchSmart 600, which works well for almost 4 years (not jinxies).

#1 can no longer change the channel of the program guide.

When I press the Guide button, the TV guide is displayed as expected. I can page up/down through the guide but when I press the button (the Center button on the remote control) to switch to the selected channel, it takes me to the library menu and position myself to the TV option saved rather than change the channel. He used to work. Note: I did take the trouble to restart the Live TV app like this seems to require to reach for the mouse.

What I did or I'm doing wrong?

#2 remote to 'enlarge' / 'restore down '.

Is it possible to use the remote control to "enlarge" / "restore" in the Live TV window? Currently, I do it with my mouse.

    #3 remote sometimes loses focus

I have never been able to identify, but the remote sometimes seems to lose focus. By this, I mean that it is as if the computer ignores all of a sudden. For example, many times I press the Guide button, the TV guide will go up but the up / keys does not work. I see that the computer receives the infrared signal because the blue light on the front flashes whenever I press a button on the remote control. Finally, after having rejected the guide and press different buttons on the remote control in a crazy attempt to clear the confusion, the remote control starts actually behave as expected.

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi ou81aswell,.

#1: looks like your remote can give wrong signals.  Have you tried restarting the computer?

#2: no, the remote doesn't have this feature.  You will need to use the mouse

#3: I've noticed that sometimes windows pop ups will steal focus from Media Center.  I found that by pushing the round button of Media Green Center of the remote control will take back you in Media Center.

  • Upgrade a Dell Dimension 9200 360 GB Raid to 2 TB hard drive

    Hello

I have tried this modernization and taken on drives of 160 GB 1 and put in disk 2 TB and started the PC and it did not work I tried 2 different locations.

Can someone help me by telling me what I have to do

to install disk 2 TB on my Vista PC running.

I need to install my dell Vista-CD/CD?

your help will be greatly appreciated

Assuming you have RAID 0, RAID was probably set up to be the bootable hard drive.  If you delete one of the disks, your RAID will be completely disabled and the computer will not start.  The Dimension 9200 has six SATA ports, two upward by themselves and four other together towards the middle of the main map.  When one of these machines has been ordered with RAID Dell normally placed disks RAID on the third SATA ports and fourth, leaving the first two either vacuum or place the DVD/CD drive on the second of the two ports that reach by themselves next to the power supply.  You should be able to add your Board of 2 TB in two ways; Place it in one of the two ports next to food, or use one of the either the port of fifth or sixth sitting by the RAID.

Once you have the new drive installed mechanically, restart the computer and use F2 during the self-test to reach the configuration of the system.  This page shows the BIOS how you want the computer to deal with its various devices.  Go to the screen that shows all your SATA devices and make sure that the port with your new hard drive is turned on.  If you skip this step the computer ignores your new drive.  Once you have done this and left the installation of the system, you will need to find the disk on your computer Manager so that you can initialize, partition and format the new drive.  You must configure a partition, even if you want to use the entire disk as one partition before you can format.

A word of caution: computers some Dell's have some difficulties to accept a hard drive placed on a track numbered higher than the DVD/CD drive.  If you use the ports by the RAID drives and find you have problems using the new hard disk, you will need to plug it into the port of the first or second, depending on which is not used by the DVD/CD drive.  The RAID drives are not normally affected by this problem because they are managed by the ROM of RAID Intel and the computer does not see them as a SATA hard drive.

  • Share the printer for 64 bit with 32-bit system

I have a new HP Vista 64 bit with a HP deskjet 5150 printer system.  I want to share with a hp windows XP 32 bits of the system.  I see the printer from the 32-bit system but does not print to it.  I tried to load the 32-bit driver on the 64 bit system and could not do.  I tried to load the 64 bit 32 bit system driver and does not...  I didn't chance to find answers in the other boards except they usually referring to the fact that it is possible.

I can share files without problem.  Any solution?  Thanks for any help

I found my own answer and thought I should share.

    Hi guys
I hope that this could help save a bit of research and serious puzzle.

I have a native machine to Vista X 64 bit with some printers on it with 64-bit drivers, but still need to connect / access these printers on some machines to Windows XP bit (32).

"You cam't use the usual thing to set up a local since tcpip port drivers 32-bit installs not on the 64-bit computer, and in all cases, you will get - driver invalid for this OS" or an equivalent message.

In any case, here's how - simple when you know how, but it took me FOREVER to find the answer.

    (1) make sure that on the remote computer if ensure that you have enabled sharing so you can access the device remotely on your network printer.

    (2) Please make sure you have the correct native drivers installed on your XP machine.

    (3) in the new printer ADD Wizard (Panel) set up LOCAL printer add ATTACHED to THIS COMPUTER (ignore the fact that it is on the remote machine) and uncheck the automatically search plug-and-play devices.

We're going to 'Poodlefake' the remote printer to think that it is actually attached to the 32-bit machine this is why you must have the correct driver installed on the 32-bit computer.

    (4) now, click NEXT. Create a new port-LOCAL port type online. Click next

    (5) on the next screen, you will need to enter a port name.
What you have to do here, is to enter the \\computername\sharename
for example, if your remote computer is studionetwork and that you have shared the printer as epson1290
    then enter here \\studionetwork\epson1290

    (6) you will get a prompt (on the XP machine) which driver you want to use - because you have already installed the drivers then just scroll down until you see the correct printer.

-That's just mainly a test page and it works - your pilot will be just 'Pass through' 64-bit machine.

TOU will not however in most cases be able to recover data from the printer such as the levels of ink etc. You will have to do it on the remote computer.

Hope this helps - I know a lot of people are upgrading machines now - then you might have a certain 32 / 64-bit mixed environments and of course some older printers will not even 64-bit drivers.

Note that this works as well - reverse your computer 64 bit VISTA or Windows 7 can use a printer connected to a 32-bit computer. Do in the same way.

  • Clip Zip ignores certain songs and blocks computer when disconnected

OK, I tried to find a solution to my problem but I've not seen everything that has been resolved or the same problem, I have.  I use a Windows 7 desktop computer and have a 4 GB Clip Zip purple.  My main problem is that the music I downloaded from eMusic and transferred through Windows Media Player. The songs will sometimes play on the Zip Clip.  I say sometimes because random entire albums or a song or two in an album will not play.  These are your Mbit/s MP3 files average 4-5 MB, 192, with no DRM.  Has anyone identified a solution?  I reformatted, reinstalled the firmware and done everything short of reformat the songs into something else.

In addition, from time to time if I disconnect the zip clip this computer freezes and I have to do a hard reboot.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  I have to tell Windows to eject?

No worries, glad you got it running.  Sometimes, Windows Media Player may have problems with transfers.  Fortunately, it is not too often.  Use the MSC mode, you have the somplete of transfer control, and the device is seen by the computer as a mass storage device.  As long as your files have incorporated album covers, the Zip will use these images and everything will be fine.

MTP mode is a 'virtual' layer on MSC, where the player is addressed as a media device.  As a result, a lot of things is automated in the background.  Album art is sent to a special 'albums' folder and other information, such as sure clock and device Clip Zip ID are available for DRM purposes (multimedia protected) if necessary.  Oh, playlisting with .pla format lists is also possible - these lists are not specific to the path as MSC, which means that even if the file is located on the microSD card and records is not serious.

Windows Media Player is happy with two modes, by the way.

With the Zip Clip, the USB controller manages only one mode at a time to access.  It is probably the fancy that causes more confusion.  If you transfer a file in a mode, then go to the other, the files that you have transferred to the other mode will be not visible from the computer, even if the Zip Clip itself can see both.  For this reason, we recommend that people choose a mode and stick with it, so that you can access all of the computer.

Oh, one final thought-Yes, you can simply drag and drop your music files in the music folder, and the player will locate based on the ID3 tags (album / artist / genre / song).  For podcasts or audio books, you can drag the files in these folders, giving you additional functions for these files (elapsed time, the playback speed).

When I plan the registry defragmentation and compaction on my Asus computer and restart it to all it will do is start the process as my computer starts and then it passes all of the hives. How can I fix it. I am using windows 7 Home premium 64-bit.

    Original title: compacting registry

to activate the registry defragmentation and compaction: go to start then run, type msconfig and click on the Startup tab.

Choose Safeboot (mininimal), and then restart the computer.

The computer will restart in safe mode, just let it run through the process; If you have a regular dskchk, let this race as usual and let the computer restart, the reg defragmentation etc, should operate normally after that. Remember once the computer has restarted in safe mode and you're on the office just repeat the msconfig but uncheck the boot in the safe mode option, and then restart Windows normally.
