Computer turns on but does not boot to Windows, startup repair does not work

When I turn on my laptop, it brings me to a screen titled "Windows Error Recovery" which means the following:

"Windows did not start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. »

He asks me if I want to '(recommended) launch Startup Repair' or 'Start Windows normally'.

When I select repair system, the screen turns off for half a second only and brings back me to the exact page as I was already on.

When I select "Start Windows normally", he brings me to the loading screen that usually starts with Vista (anyone who says (c) Microsoft Corporation), except that it never stops loading.  I left for hours, and he was still on the same screen.

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 with a processor Intel Core 2 Duo and Windows Vista Basic.

Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
Data recovery:
1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

Download the Vista software from the link above.

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

  • Computer turned on but does not

    I have a desktop running Windows XP Pro SP3 that is constantly lit. My screen saver is set to off after being idle for 20 minutes.  Opportunity (maybe once a week) when returning to the computer, it it will activate.  Moving the mouse, punching keys... all else fails to access the computer.  I loaded a CD to the hard drive and still nothing.  The only option is to shut down the computer using the power button which I realize isn't the best approach, but it is the only option to activate the computer.  I can't explain the cause.  The computer is protected by anti virus protection anti-spyware with firewall active and online.  To my knowledge there is nothing malicious on the computer which can be confusing service.  If anyone has experienced this problem or knows what is the cause of the problem?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi RaeButts,

    ·         You have the latest graphics drivers installed?

    A lot of standby and hibernation problems can be attributed to graphics cards. A simple driver update might get hibernation works again.

    Method 1: Check if you have the latest display and video drivers. Log on to the computer manufacturer website and look for the same thing.

    Method 2: Make sure your device is authorised to the computer.

    a. open the keyboard Control Panel item, as described in method 1.

    b. click on the hardware tab, and then click Properties.

    c. click the Edit settings button

    Note This step requires administrator access

    d. click the power management tab and check that allow it this device to wake the computer is turned on.

    e. click OK, and then click OK again. Do the same for the mouse and other pointing devices.

    Method 3: An update of the BIOS (Basic Input/output System) could also resolve the issue. Check the website of your system provider to see if one is available.

    Note: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly.

  • Satellite A500-148 turns on but does not start

    Hi all, I have a Satellite A500-148 from a friend who asked me to take a peek, it turns on, but does boot when I press the following power button occurs:
    -The power button and the charger are on and the hdd led only flashes once
    -The fan comes on for about 3 seconds
    -No image on the screen, I indicated a light against it, but there is really no image

    Tried to reset by pressing the button for 30 seconds without the changer is plugged.

    I disassembled it and noticed that this laptop has an external video card, so my question is, who's broken the video card or the motherboard.

    Thank you

    To be honest I don't understand this with an external video card. Can you describe how you mean exactly?
    In any case, on this virtual path, it is not easy to offer the exact diagnosis. You can try the little test and remove this external adapter, RAM and HARD disk, and try to start again.

    Ask your friend if he had something that may be responsible for this.

    One last thing: laptop stays in r might have turned off after a certain time?

  • Defender is turned off, but does not give me access to it 2 turn on power

    original title: windows Defender

    These days have a lot of problems with my laptop.  Problems with starting.  I need to access windows defender to modify startup programs.  It is said that Defender is turned off, but does not give me access to it 2 turn it on.  In addition, different problems with different users and accounts by the office put in place, it looks like all my users are running different versions of windows, so I don't know where to start with all the problems.  Security sounded like a good place 2 start, so I guess I'll start by Defender problems.  (I have recently downloaded the free security essentials, safety signs so all green lights).

  • My computer guard direct me to the Windows Startup Repair loop. Is this a virus? If this is not the case, what should I do?

    OK, here's a little history:
    When was surfing the Internet (using Mozilla Firefox), he froze and said that he "did not." Then I left the computer alone for a good 15 minutes, but to realize that nothing happened. From there, I decided to disconnect the computer to see if I can re - open Firefox. But when I tried to connect it back, the computer take me on the desk. It was stuck at the screen that says 'Welcome' (the form that appears after clicking on your user name) in the end, I turned off the computer by holding the power button, because there was nothing I could do. When I turned on the computer a few minutes later, it was time that I met a huge problem.

    The problem:
    When I turned it back on, a black screen appears that gives you the ability to boot your system with a repair on your computer, or start normally. I chose "start normally. After that, it took me a blue screen with a window that says "Startup Repair". He began to scan the computer saying «attempted repairs...» "When I saw this, I turned immediately shut down the computer, thinking it was some sort of virus that pretends to fix the computer. Nevertheless, I decided to turn it on for the second time. Of course, it's the same thing. But this time, I allow the scanning process to complete. When it was over, he said that the system could not be repaired and advised me to contact Microsoft, with my "contact information." I took this as a red flag, and click Cancel. I suspected it was an attempt to identity theft. (Though, I could be wrong, of course.)

    Honestly, I don't know if if there is indeed something wrong with the computer or if it's a virus.

    I tried to find out by going online and looking for solutions. From there, I tried a method where you press F8 several times until the Advanced Boot Options go up and selected "Last known Configuration" that did not work. I also heard on the "chkdsk" method, but I don't know how to do and there is no guarantee this will work.

    After that, I did more research and realized there were several ways to solve this problem. But when I went through the tutorials, the steps have been very confusing to me. I felt like most of these tutorials aimed computer technicians or people who knew in fixing computers. The steps were so confused until I found myself referring more questions than real answers!

    So now I'm reaching out to help, and I really need! It would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to format all my data.

    Please keep in mind that I am a lover of computers operating. The two programs I normally use are Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Word. So please don't be assuming that I know my way in and out of a computer. I'm no where near, in every sense of the term, an 'Expert '. If you can, I would like a simple, easy to follow, simple tutorial, step by step, which is not turned to professional users. Still, I am not very competent in operating computers.

    Hello

    You have tried yet.

    Scan of Malware in Safe Mode with network.

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    Once in Safe Mode with network, download and run RKill.

    RKill does NOT remove the malware; It stops the Malware process that gives you a chance to remove it with your security programs.

    Hi mgm842,

    1. When did you start to question?

    2. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

    3. you receive messages or error codes?

    You can try to run a scan online and check.

    Step 1:

    You can check out the following link and try to download the Microsoft Safety Scanner and perform a full scan on your computer and check.

    Note: When you perform the analysis, there are risks of data loss you can take a backup of important data before performing analysis.

    Check out the link:

    Step 2:

    If you are still facing problems then try creating a new user account and check if the problem occurs:

    There are two different versions of Flash. ActiveX for IE version and the version of the Plugin for other browsers. Have you installed the correct version? This forum software is not thing that Flash is installed for Firefox or the Plugin is disabled.

    1. download the file of configuration Flash from here:

    Adobe Flash - Plugin version.

    Save it to your desktop.

    2. close Firefox using file > exit

    Then check the Task Manager > processes tab to make sure that firefox.exe is closed.

    {XP: Ctrl + Alt + Delete, Vista: Shift + Ctrl + ESC process tab =}

    3. then run the Flash configuration from your desktop file.

    4. run Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    • On Vista and Windows 7, you may need to run the installer of plugin as administrator by starting the installation program via the context menu if you do not get a UAC prompt for permission to continue (that is to say that nothing seems to be happening).
