Connect my W7 laptop to my home workgroup (MSHOME)

When I created my new laptop W7, I let the installation process create a residential group name which is not the name of my XP (MSHOME) working group.  How to make the change on the laptop to connect it to MSHOME?

Thank you

John

Hi John,.

Thank you to update with the information asked.

If I understand you correctly, you want to connect the residential group created under Windows 7 with the Workgroup (MSHOME) under Windows xp.

To clarify, we can not connect two groups of House or a home group and a working group as the residential group the term was coined in Windows Vista (and from operating system).

You can also connect two systems running different versions of Windows. To do this, please refer to the following article:

Networking of computers running different versions of Windows

Hope this information is useful. If the problem still persists, please post back for further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

  • keep losing internet connection on PC laptop of HP Pavilion g6

As above, I keep losing internet connection on PC laptop of HP Pavilion g6 and often have to go out to get it back. I had the laptop for over a year and have had this problem from day one. There is often no connection at all. I'll be on a a Bab beautiful site and then the next it just freezes. Sometimes clicking on dissconnect then reconnect will solve the problem. But most of the time that I have to turn it off, wait a few minutes and then restart your computer. It does not always if I have to do it again. As above, I have had this problem from day one. When I got it home it has no connection to be seen. I took it streight back to PC world, they passed it and connections were there. When I got home, turned on others were there, but not my own. After the market again was mine. After that, it was OK for a week or two, then I started having the problems that I have now. My son sitting about three feet from me on his laptop has no problems at all so I know that it is the laptop and not my router. My wife, my son and my phone are also on the internet through the router when it fires. Now and then it will be OK for a few days, but most of the time it turns off several times a day. It's a good pain as each else with the laptop is great.

    Hi @wiggie ,

Thanks for your post, I will do my best to help.

What trust do not forget it is very helpful if you include your exact model of HP laptop and operating system.  HP produces many models of Pavilion G6

How can I find my model number or product number?

It sounds as if after a period of the computer is the ' turn off.

You would check the Please this setting.

    Go to the Device Manager

Click on the adpaters network to expand the list

Right-click on the network adapter and choose Properties

    Click the Power Managerment

Please uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power if it is checked.

Repeat the above for all types of additional network adapters.

    I hope this helps.

  • Sharing a wireless connection on a laptop with a desktop computer

Someone just mention something about the possibility to share wireless being removed in Windows Vista and 7, or at least the 'home' versions Is this true?

I wouldn't be able to use a laptop running Vista Home Premium to connect to a Wi - Fi hotspot and then to share that connection with your desktop via a crossover cable by using ICS? I know it's possible with XP Pro very easily.

    Hello

In Vista, you can use ICS.

Win 7 support ICS too and this new arrangement as well.

  • I can't connect to another computer on my home network

I can't connect to my desktop PC to my laptop on my home network. Until a few weeks ago, I had no problem.

    • There are several disks on the desktop, none of which is available.
    • Both devices are running Windows 7 Ultimate.
    • I can connect to my laptop from my desktop but not the reverse.

The Network Diagnostics tool tells me that my laptop seems to be configured correctly. The message is "Windows cannot communicate with the device or resource" followed by the name of the desktop in parentheses.

I use Norton 360 (completely up to date) on each device and I checked the firewall on both settings. Remote connection is not available, no more, even if it is allowed on the desktop.

I hope you can provide a solution. If any additional information is needed, please let me know.

Fixit link in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/why-can-t-i-join-a-homegroup, did not.

However the link itself gave me the idea of watching my homegroup. I removed the old Homegroup and created another... everything is now fixed!

  • I can't get my old laptop on my home network to be visible to my new desktop pc

I have a new HP Pavilion P6-2120 Tower and cannot do 'see' my old laptop on my home network.

    Hi Pauol,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community.

I see that you are unable to see the computer on your home network.

    Quick questions:

    1. If it works well before?
    2. How many computers are connected to the network?
    3. What operating system is installed on the "old" laptop?

Try these steps and check whether you can see the old laptop on the home network.

    Step 1:

Check if the parameters of home network is set up correctly.

See this link for more information:

    Step 2:

Now, try the steps from the following link:

  • I am unable to remote desktop to connect to my laptop

First of all, I looked through all the troubleshooting options on the microsoft page for troubleshooting remote desktop connection. None of these options worked for me. Even turning the firewall for my laptop worked. My laptop can remote access my office perfectly find it's just the reverse does not work.
I think the problem is that I can't put my laptop to allow connections. My laptop home premium windows 7 don't have any remote desktop options in the "remote" of System Properties tab. I'm trying to access remotely to this laptop, but I am unable to probably for that reason. When I go to the Remote tab in system properties, all I see is a box for remote assistance and nothing on it as on my desktop, where it shows remote access options.
Is there any solution for this?

You have read obviously not what I wrote.

I actually did, but obviously, you thought that the respondents have the x-ray vision. "You wrote" ""first of all, I looked through all the troubleshooting options on the microsoft page troubleshooting remote desktop connection ' , but then you did not designate one page you may have consulted.

As long as illustrative, I would say that you did not know that Windows 7 Home Premium machines cannot be the target of a remote desktop session. You need at least the professional version.

  • Connection to my laptop designjet 4500 ch - help

I have fixed a broken designjet 4500 ps that was given to me by the replacement of the motherboard.  The printer initializes and starts without any problem.  Everything seems fine with the printer.  Now I need help plug into my laptop.

I have a laptop with USB port and a port Ethernet 10 Windows running.

I installed the drivers on the laptop from the HP site. Windows 64 bits 8.1 was the last OS I could choose, but the HP website refers to this facility when he talks about the compatibility of Windows 10.

The motherboard, I have installed has two USB ports. I ran the installation of the driver and could not recognize the printer via a direct USB connection.   There are not even the Windows ringing sound that indicates the USB connection.  The Device Manager shows nothing under USB or COM ports when the cable is connected.

It seems to me the manuals that I downloaded that is the only way to directly connect to this printer by Firewire or USB.  To be honest I really don't even know what firewire is, and am pretty sure that I have no such port on my laptop.

I tried to directly connect an ethernet cable from the printer to my laptop but, as expected, nothing happened.

When I got to the printer, he had a card "Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter" with an ethernet port is in the field of electronics.  The main trainer PCA Council has an available for this PCI slot, but I was afraid to install it without knowing whether or not it was actually (I did not find in the service manual).  If I installed this card, would I be able to connect to the printer over an Ethernet cable directly from my laptop?

For what it's worth, the printer LCD screen has a menu of installation with "e/s Configuration.

    I have the following options:

Select the timeout of e/s (Set at 30 seconds)

Select IP Interfact (set to pop-up with the options unchecked for Fast Ethernet and Firewire 1394)

    Fast Ethernet:

/ Information (installed: Yes, active IP: Yes, printing enabled: Yes)

/ Configuration (link state: down, IP address: not configured, try: DHCP)

    Gigabit Ethernet:

    / Display information (installed: No.)

    1394 Firewire:

/ Display information (Installed: Yes, active IP: no, printing enabled: Yes)

    USB:

    / Display information (installed: No.)

    Jet Direct:

    / Display information (installed: No.)

Currently, I am trying to dive into manuals and to familiarize myself with them.  Anyone has any advice on getting it connected to my laptop?

    Thank you

Very well.  I was able to resolve myself.  I got out an old router I had and he was able to establish a connection via Ethernet without any problem.

Sorry, but you have to learn how to create a basic network. Homegroup to work between Windows 8 and Windows 7 PCs. An alternative is to buy a NAS, connect it to your router homw and use it to share files between multiple PCs connected to the router.

You asked about an advanced PC topic.  Creating a homegroup is the easiest way to do it.
