Control by portable PXI

I use PXI - 1042 s with PXI-8196 embedded, each with several PXI modules installed controllers. (PXI-2530, PXI-4070 PXI-6509 etc..)

Is it possible to connect somehow to a laptop that has LabVIEW installed, such that I can develop applications (on the laptop) to control PXI modules?

When applications are completed and compiled in executable files, they will be installed on the PXI controllers.

I don't want to do, is to install LabVIEW on each PXI controllers I have to develop applications.

Kind regards.

You can develop your application... virtually simulating PXI modules - sounds interesting, but how to do this? (Or is it a matter for another post?

To simulate the device go to MAX > right-click devices and Interfaces > NOR-DAQmx simulated device > select your device and enter ok.

... but if you were to buy a PXI MXI-Express kit you can remotely control the PXI chassis - I think that's what I was looking for. But wouldn't this "work around" the on-board controller and have the executable running on the laptop instead? Looking at the link you posted, it is worth further investigation

It will bypass the controller for development purposes, but when you have generated your executable you can just charge on the PXI controller and it will run without the need of the laptop.

Kind regards

  • Satellite A300 Linux fan control

    Hi all

I am running Fedora 9 (kernel 2.6.26) on my Toshiba A300 (T8100, 3 GB of ram). Almost every piece of equipment is running properly (except the radeon 3650 card, but that was expected and people working on a driver for him). Now the only issue I'm facing is the noise from the CPU fan. What is happening is that even if I keep the laptop voluntarily slowed for a long time (CPU activity is very low), the CPU fan continues to run during this period and is very noisy and very disturbing.

Usually the fan starts to turn (to 100% of its rpm, very strong) as soon as I start up the PC and does not stop. When I boot Windows Vista, the fan is behaving differently, that's starting to turn when there is a long period of heavy workload and then slows down and stops finally when the PC is idle.

I tried to use different Governors of CPU (Linux kernel drivers) as conservative and powersave, and nothing has changed. The noise is there, the fans are running * without * actually lower the temperature of the CPU (which is constant ~ 45 ° C when it is inactive), etc.

So any ideas, guys, on how I can correct this situation. Is there a tool to control the speed of the CPU to user-space fan? What is ACPI? Sensors? The computer phone is just a beautiful piece of hardware, but the noise of the fan is to kill the user experience all.

  • LV RT2010 on PXI-8145RT - cannot upgrade the BIOS

    Hello

My lab has a pair of PXI systems controlled by 8145RT PXI and LabView 2010 because we have not upgraded for awhile. As far as I know, this controller should be usable with LV2010 RT.

However, when I try to install the software on the target using MAX, I get a message informing me that the software I would like to install (LV - Rt 10.0) is incompatible with the operating system loaded on the machine. The ethernet driver install without problem, for what it is worth.

When you try to upgrade the BIOS, I first got a message that the controller contains the version 10.2 and 10.3 version is available on the host. If I try to follow the upgrade procedure (jumper W2 bridged, of course) the controller sees a bit of business network, reboots, gets a little more traffic, and then MAX tells me that the update has failed.

I can see that the flash update program was transferred to the target and set as the boot executable, but clearly it was not entirely successful. Can anyone help with this? I upgraded to 512 MB CF card (which he has no problem using) and RAM 64 Mo - I didn't have an old 128 MB SODIMM autour. What is the problem? Starting with redirect series will help something? I have to build a null modem to make this work.

For anyone in a similar situation.

In the end, I decided to downgrade to LV2009 on my development machine and try things again. With the help of LV2009/LVRT2009/MAX4.6, I was able to upgrade the version of the BIOS on both of my controllers 8145RT - correctly we from 10.2 to 10.3 and 9.1 to 10.3. After that, I was able to install RT2009 + DaqMX + another need of the components on the controller for which I had updated size RAM and CF. There is not a lot of memory to spare, but the controller starts in LVRT(9.0/2009) and I have successfully deployed an application to test on this subject.

My application may require an upgrade to faster hardware in the end, but the 8145RT must stay a usable under LV2009 for simple tasks controller. I suspect that LVRT2010 would work, now that I got the BIOS upgrade, but I'm not inclined to test this right now.

As for the original question of the update of the BIOS fault, I'm pretty sure it is a bug in MAX 4.7.  4.6 MAX had no trouble to initiate an update to the exact same version as 4.7 was trying (10.3); I suspect that MAX 4.7 have not properly configured the CF environment to start the flash update program.

    Hope this helps someone.

You must close your session when you are finished with them. Currently, because you don't do so, whenever your VI is called a new reference is open, which invalidates the earlier, but doesn't release him from memory.

Now that I have a system available with a power supply, I discovered why you receive the 1074118650 error message. Property Measure.vi can be called only when you are in the operating state (after calling the Insider). Given that the insider was never called, the device is still in the aborted State. I should have caught than yesterday, but I opened the VI without NOR-installed on DCPower.

I would recommend to take a look at some of our examples (help-> find examples, material input and output-> Modular Instruments-> NOR-DCPower (DC Power Supplies) and review the help topic for programming Flow (OR power supply and SMU help-> programming with NI - DCPower-> programming Flow.))

  • HAVE multiple AO-synchronization-2 multiple while loops

    Hi all

I want to characterize my RF circuit by using an additional narcotics control and map PXI-6229. I wrote a simple VI in Labview, which is almost similar to the example, multiple-HAVE-AO-synchronization, seen in LABVIEW. According to my VI, 4 analog outputs with different offsets dc, amplitudes and phase values must be generated to my RF circuit and 2 analog inputs must be acquired by this circuit simultaneously and continuously. But the problem with my VI is that I try to observe two diagrams at the same time to see the changes in signals generated and acquired. However, I don't see the two signals simultaneously. The second while loop, which belongs to the acquisition of analog signals, does not start while the first loop generates analog signals continuously. How can I synchronize these two while loops in order to observe the two parties in the diagrams?

    I have attached my VI.

    Thanks in advance.

    T. Eray

    Hi Eray,

I will be brief and I'll keep it simple. If I understand correctly, you have trouble with the data stream in LabVIEW. When you work in LabVIEW, you must understand the order in which the blocks (functions/nodes/structers) are run in LabVIEW - stream. Each block can be executed just at the moment where there values on each entry. This means that if the 2 blocks are connected with a wire, the 2nd block waits until the first ends its execution.

In your case, that means, this 2nd loop does not execute before the first loop (with the DAQ Assistant) ends its execution, because the son comes from the inside of the first loop, then they go to some DAQmx features and then DAQmx features they go to the 2nd loop.

In principle, what you could do is to put the content of the first loop, where you prepare the signal generated in the 2nd loop. Good course without the DAQ Assistant. Instead, you can use DAQmx writing in the 2nd loop.

    Kind regards

  • Error while trying to initialize the session of material

I get an error when you try to initialize a session of material so that I can control my cards PXI-4110.  I've attached a screenshot of the code that I am running with the error message that appears.  I used this code before on a separate system yet identical and received no error.  I'm trying to deploy this code on a real-time system running Pharlap or whatever it's called now.  The real-time system is hung across a MXI map in a PXI chassis containing power cards.  I'm under LabVIEW 2012.

In fact, I just got on the phone with a representative OR today, and he asked me to set my target to the local host rather than my machine in real time and for some reason that seems to have solved the problem.  Even the rep was not really sure why that would fix it, but he did.  Thanks a lot for your great answers.

  • Device and the user does not add security to the family account

    First post.

Win8 running on a laptop. He was previously a partner in a family safety account, that I had put in place. I removed the unit and the user to try to resolve a problem with a web page. However, the account will now add the user or the device back to when clicking on many user form accounts for managing issues online.

Family safety account is under my email address. laptop user is my child, who is defined as a child with a separate e-mail account. The security account for the family is still working and control another portable under win7 under a separate connection.

    Help!

I managed to solve my problem.

I created a new administrator account on the laptop under different parents email address.

Logged in under that account, I was able to edit on behalf of a child who then it adds the new parental control under the new e-mail address of the parent.

Only problem I have now is a child under a security account for the parental family and one under the other, but I can live with that...

    Hi John,.

The PXI - 8331 PCI, which allows the control of your PXI chassis from the computer you're using? If so, here is a link to the product page. That you are using the device for? If it is the control of your PXI chassis, then you probably need PXI Platform Services.

Then the installation process continues, but once done, I get a message that errors have occurred in the facility. I could send an album to itunes library, but I couldn't see where to add the music to the Ipod Touch 3.  I think that there should be a "Deputy" which I don't see. Maybe the errors. I did it on my other computer a long time ago, but this computer no longer works, also with XP, no problem at this time here to operate.

I went to Microsoft after clicking in Control Panel - portable multimedia devices - and he says that the my Ipod is not need of software that it is ready to go.

I tried with and without the Ipod ports in USB 2.0 ports and also tried to restart the computer with connected.  When I first plug it into a port, it makes the sound "recognizes the new hardware' and it says IPOD.  It appears in the 'Safely remove' icon in the lower tray right, it's another icon, not sure what it is.  I just plugged it before submitting this and no message "recognizes the new hardware" appears and no icon in the status bar. • Simple collection of the months component (without corresponding calendar?)

I feel that it can be ridiculously easy to answer...

I am looking for a component of the months picking it is simply an extension of something that already exists.

My first instinct was to look at the JXMonthView that is included inside SwingX. Basically, my ideal component would be one that includes only the month part up to the selection page of the JXMonthView component with "traversable' set to true. In other words, a control that allows you to choose a month in the year using a schema of forward/reverse. Unfortunately, I can't find a good way to replace the functionality of the class such that only the top header is included.

I tried to get into the guts of the code, but it was like the best thing to do was to replace the layoutContainer inside BasicMonthViewUI function. Then I realized that this feature is part of a private class. I missed a great way to hide just that little of the Panel? I also considered replacing the functions of the painting, but my fear is that the component request too much space because it's just not 'paint' the month but still allocates space for this.

I think that, perhaps, a self-made simple control may be the best solution? I'm just trying to stay away from possible much custom work I hope to make the control as portable as possible between platforms.

    Thank you!

Here is something of a JSlider in months and JButtons in the years. Because I'm not that familiar with Date/calendar, there is probably a better way to extract the necessary information (exercise for the OP), but this comes from the Swing stuff demos:

Also, we prefer to use our own controller (Linix based) shipped without a slot for a PXI card (if possible). Is there like a simple series or ethernet interface to control the boards housed in the PXI-1042 chassis? The switching speed is very low, it is part of a manufacturing test system, we want to use the PXI-1042 with several 6 x 1 Mux inside for instruments RF switching in of the DUT.

    Hi eirlund,

    In response to your questions:

Is there a simple series or ethernet interface to control the boards housed in the PXI-1042 chassis?

    • Chassis PXI itself contains only the connections for the PXI bus and some timing and triggering and power for the cards. This white paper explains the PXI architecture in many more details: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/52018/en/

    • In order to be interfaced with the cards that you need to use a controller Embedded PXI or a remote control which allows you to use another computer in place and place an on-board controller. A remote control can be easier to apply to what you're after however there are some limitations regarding the use under Linux. More information on what the remote controllers can be found here: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/10359

We want to use our own code, not of LabView, just plain 'C '.

    • You should always use the relevant drivers for the hardware you are using, in this case NOR-Switch and NI PXI Platform Services if you are using a remote control.

    • These drivers work with LabWindows/CVI which adds additional tools to facilitate the programming intended for the material OR in C, this means that it should be possible to use these drivers of C, but there is less evidence for this

Also, we prefer to use our own controller shipped (Linux-based) without a slot for a PXI card (if possible)

    • If this is possible will depend in part on the question of whether the version of Linux you are using is supported. You can look into this further here: http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/52786/en/

    • In addition, you will need a PCI slot or a slot ExpressCard to connect to a remote installation program with

I hope that this information gives you somewhere to start to consider whether what you want to do is doable?

  • PXI-8532 vs 8461/D Devicenet master control

    Hi guys,.

We bought two units of PXI-8461/D cards to control ABB robots. We currently plan on adding duplicates of the current system. I scoured online and realized that there is a new map for Devicenet, PXI-8532. After consultation with the local OR here, I've been advised to stick with the PXI-8461/D, as there are always limitations (lack of features) on the PXI-8532 - but he was not sure of what were the missing features. This is because the new PXI-8532 uses a new set of pilot (NI industrial Communication, instead of NOR-DNET). Is this true? If so, may I know what are the limits.

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

We made a few efforts to provide an upgrade path for these new devices with our version 2.1 now available for download. The only limitation as for now, it's that you can't have two types of devices on the same thing, which is controlled by the same VI. But you can run your old code with the new maps for example base. See this KB for the upgrade of your code.

We will soon publish the version 2.2 of the pilot which will add support for the slave, the last feature that was missing in regard to compatibility with the old driver. Let us know if you need a beta versionavailable to use the support of the slave already.

So in summary, if you are using the old APi master support, you should be able to duplicate your system and use the new cards instead.

If you are having problems please let us know.
