conversion of different disks of different data warehouses

Hello

I plan on P2V a Windows 2 k server which has three logical drives. I want to put the C drive in a data store and drives D and F to another. Is this possible using standalone vConverter 4.0? If so, I'd appreciate some advice.

Thank you

Are C and D on the same physical volume?  If so, they must be on the same LUN with Converter 4.0 destination.

Kind regards

  • VM with disks of different data warehouses. Snapshots on the same data store?

    Hello

    We have several virtual machines with disks on different data stores for reasons RAID.

    Last night, we found that the snapshots of all disks are left on the data store main vmx and not on each datastore disk.

    How will we change this as our OS data warehouses are small and run out of space when running shadow copies?

    Thank you

    Frogbeef

    You can change the location of snapshots, but they will all go to this place - as far as I know, you cannot change the location of each disk.

    The KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002929 explains how to do this.

  • Size of snapshot for VM with disks of different data warehouses

    Hi all

    We create a VM with drives C and D residing on different data stores. Size of drive C would be 30 GB and D would be 250 GB.

    When we take a snapshot of the virtual machine where it will be stored on C or D drive please confirm so we can design the size of the store of data accordingly.

    Kind regards

    Snapshot is taken for both C & D drives,

    Instant c: drive will be in the data store where c: drive. Instant drive D will be in the data store were the unit.

  • Find County/VMs with 2 or more VMDK on different data warehouses

    Hello:

    I wonder how to find (and later) all VMs with 2 or more on the different data store VMDK...

    Thank you

    qwert

    Argh, you can still see that the single line in my script that I did not test, the Export-CSV cmdlet, gives you bad. The following script, I tried from the beginning to the end and gives even better output:

    $report = @()
    $allvms = Get-VM
    foreach ($vm in $allvms) {
         $clusterName = ($vm | Get-Cluster).Name
         $dstores = $vm | Get-Datastore
         foreach($ds in $dstores){
              $row = "" | select VMNAME, DATASTORE, Cluster
              $row.VMNAME = $vm.name
              $row.DATASTORE = $ds.Name
              $row.Cluster = $clusterName
              $report += $row
         }
    }
    $report | `
    Sort-Object -Property VMName,Datastore -Unique | `
    Group-Object -Property VMName | `
    Where-Object { $_.Count -gt 1 } | `
    Foreach-Object {
         foreach ($Record in $_.Group) {$Record }
    } | `
    Export-Csv "C:\VM_DS.csv" -NoTypeInformation

    Update: I saw that the first line was missing, so I added the first line of the script.

  • Add several drives on different data warehouses

    Hi all, I'm new to the script. I'm trying to script adding disks to different stores of data on different hosts (not clustered). Let's say I have VMs called VM1 and VM2 I get this info from file adddisk.txt. I want to add disks to the virtual machines, but I don't know the name of the data under specific host store. If VM1 is Host1, under name of data store is: Datastore1 IF VM2 is under Host2, name of data store is: Datastore2 so, how can I add records to several virtual machines without knowing the name of the data store? $servers is a get-Content "C:\Scripts\AddDisk\adddisk.txt" New-disk hard - VM $servers - CapacityGB 30 - DiskType Flat - data store 'DatasoreName' StorageFormat - thin thanks in advance.

    Try like this

    Get-Contentt c:\Script\adddisk.txt | %{  $hostname = Get-VM -Name $_ | Get-VMHost | Select -ExpandProperty Name  if($hostname -eq "esx3"){    $dsname = "Datastore3"  }  elseif($hostname -eq "esx4"){    $dsname = "Datastore4"  }  New-HardDisk -VM $_ -CapacityGB 5 -DiskType Flat -Datastore $dsname -StorageFormat Thin}

    The Get-Content will read the file line by line.

    We execute the codeblock to each line (construction ForEach - alias is %)

    Essay on equality of strings is done with the operator - eq, the = operator is used only for assignments.

  • Script to add the virtual computer to the inventory of different data warehouses

    I need a script that will go through all available databases and add the virtual machine inside of them in inventory.

    I know how to do this with:

    New-VM - VMFilePath ' [DATASTORE] vmfolder/vmname.vmx "-VMHost (Get-Cluster"NOMCLUSTER"|) Get-VMHost | Get - Random) - place (Get-folder folder_name) - RunAsync

    But we have hundreds of data stores and thousands of virtual machines. I suck at writing scripts in a loop, but it looks like that's what I need. I tried using wildcards for the VMFilePath - but it does not work. Must be another way.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Oh, I fixed it. I had a host that was plundered with partial connectivity to storage. The script was repeatedly tries to connect to this host jacked up.

    I managed to work around the problem by changing "Get-VMHost | Select - first 1 "to" Get-VMHost | Get-Random.

    Works fine now... as do all things Luke and Lam

  • 7 virtual disk added vSphere data protection

    Hi, we are deploying vSphere Protection of data in the model of the FVO, after completion, we found 7 virtual disk listed in the properties of the vm disk of 1x100GB and 6x256GB of the disc, we could just understand why the model gave us 7 disc, a google search didn't really give us any idea either.

    Few can have space constraints. This is for flexibility.

    Other than 1, the disks are disks of data and you have the possibility to migrate to different data warehouses after deployment.

  • Storage vmotion, between data warehouses when the block size is different

    Hi all

    I would like to know, is it possible to do a vmotion of storage between two data warehouses, when they have different block sizes. The case is as a former vmfs data store 3 which has been upgraded direct to vmfs5 there, but since it has been updated it maintains its own block size. While the newly created vmfs datastore 5 a block size of 1 MB.

    Thus, storage Vmotion will work in this case? It will fail OR will be with degraded performance?

    Finally, storage vmotion is possible even if you do not have a cluster DRS for storage?

    Thank you

    Yes you can!

  • How can I move a data store a single virtual disk shape in a different data store?

    I have a host running vSphere 4 enterprise that belongs to a cluster of Foundation vCenter 5.5.  I need to move all the guests off the coast of this host to be updated. This host has a client that is using the local hard disk as a data store.  This customer has six 6 hard drive with only using the local hard disk as a data store.  How can I move the hard drive to a different data store?

    When I try to use 'Move' or 'Migrate' with vCenter (client or web interface), it seems that I can move only data not store a single entity, each database individually.  Can we move a data store single someway with the guest always under tension, or do I have to power off and manually move the "vmdk" they reattach the hard drive?

    Thank you

    Bruce

    When you click on migrate, the data store, click on the Advanced button.  It will give you the option to select a disc.  You can migrate it while it is running.

  • How to convert an array of string elements to a cluster with elements named different data types?

    I'm looking for more help with the conversion of an array of elements of the chain in a cluster containing elements named different data types.

    I am importing data from an Excel worksheet.  He is coming in LabVIEW as separate (channels) 3 tables: 1) Variable name, (2) three possibilities Int, double, String) data type and the value 3), with the clues in each table corresponding to a separate variable (I have about 180 variables to import).  My ultimate goal is to convert the string array of 'Value' in a cluster.  But I want the correct data type in the cluster and I also the elements of the cluster name to match with the string 'Variable name' table so that I can use the Unbundle based on the name in my main VI.

    Please see attachment a Subvi for more details.  I did the size of the new items of tables 5 for simplicity.   I realize that labels property cannot be changed during execution and I don't think I need to do.  I just want to use the production cluster (mainly the unbundle by name) to help design my main VI.  I will need to 'read' and 'write for' the cluster during execution, but I won't need to change the names of the items.

    I was also wondering if there is a better way to import data from Excel?  Is it possible to import directly into a cluster immediately rather than put everything as strings?  I have attached a Subvi showing how I currently bring in data (found on the forum somewhere).  It comes as table 2D, which I divided into 3 separate tables that I mention above.

    I am open to any suggestion.  Thank you very much.

    -Mike

    Instead of trying to create a cluster, I think I would use only variant attributes.

  • Migration of all the catalog items to a different data store in the same storage profiles

    Hello

    is any possibility to migrate everything in the catalog (time and iso files) to a different data store that has the same profile (Silver) storage group?  Because I have 2 groups of data store with the same profile of storage (Silver) and I want to delete one of this cluster.

    I found this kb: http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2058094 but it speaks solely of media files of migration between different storage profiles.

    Have vCD 5.6.4

    You happen to use rapid Provisioning?  This is probably the only problem I can think of.

    Environments that have no linked Clones or shadows created from them, you can just Storage vMotion them between the same storage policy data warehouses.  Just make sure that the data store or a store of data clusters are visible in vCloud Director first of all in the framework of this storage policy.

    When you use linked clones, I don't remember the exact process... I think that I have in my office somewhere (I'm at home now).

  • List not updated virtual machines after the migration of the virtual machine to a different data store

    My vSphere infrastructure 5 uses several data stores.

    Two data warehouses are associated with NFS on different NAS shares.

    I migrate VM to a data to another store.

    The navigation data store, I see that the files are moved from the old data store to the new and that no file belonging to the migrated VM still does exist on the old data store.

    If I look at the list of VMs on the old data store, I still see the old VM.

    I see it in the list of the virtual machine on the new data store as well.

    I checked that no .iso no pagefile is in the old data store.

    How can I update the list of the virtual machine on the old data store?

    Above all, how can I safely delete the old data store by ensuring that the virtual machine works very well on the new data store and I don't lose anything?

    Concerning

    Marius

    This use of data store 'Phantom' is usually observed, if the current configuration of the virtual computer points to the 'old' data store (diskette, CD-ROM) or the virtual machine contains snapshots where - at the time where tone have been created - the VM has had these references. Once the snapshots are deleted from data store 'ghost' will go away from summary of the virtual machine.

  • Snapshot of a different data store

    Hello

    Quick question for the community.

    Suppose I have 2 data warehouses and A VM is located in the data store 1. I can take a snapshot of the machine and I have this snapshot can be found on the data store 2?

    My understanding was I could not easily do this but our service provider said that's the way it works and I'll try to find a documented method, support to do so.

    All responses will be appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Richard

    Incorrect, it is advisable, and applies by default to store the snapshots in the same data store in which the VMDK resides in, but he did not.

    You can edit the .vmx VM to store snapshots on a different data store, this can be useful if you run lack of space on the data store, which resides in your virtual machine.

    Please refer to this VMware KB on the configuration of this change: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002929

  • How to move a virtual machine to a different data store, preserving its ID

    I would like to move a virtual machine to a different data store.

    Because I use 3rd party software that identifies a virtual machine by its ID of VirtualCenter, I'd like to preserve the ID, and I also want to preserve the name of the virtual computer.

    If I clone the virtual machine, I lose the ID and name.

    I can clone a second time to restore the name, but the ID is always false.

    I know that I can use vmkfstools-i to copy the entire disk.

    Is it possible to copy the entire VM?

    I am currently on ESX 3.0.2/VC 2.0.2

    The operation that I describe is available in 3.5.x/VC ESX 2.5.x

    TIA,

    -Magister

    Don't use EVER of CP to copy a VM, VMDK move/copy should be used in conjunction with vmkfstools as best practice.

    OP,

    You can manually make a copy using the CLI interface or use the VI Client and browse the data store and to copy and paste in the appropriate data and as suggested Andre store, when you switch on for the first time, you should say 'keep' when asked if you want to update the virtual machine UUID.

    Another thing, you could do, is if you've enabled for vMotion, you can actually use Storage vMotion which will migrate directly from your virtual machine to a different data store, it's less effort on your side and you can count on Andrew Kutz sVMotion plugin: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vip-svmotion/
