Convert FAT to NTFS WITHOUT FORMATTING

I have a machine rt surface that has a micro SD card that has a lot of data.  I want to convert to NTFS without formatting the SD card.

On my RT surface when I do

convert/d:/FS: NTFS

It is said

"CONVERT is not available for EXFAT drives.

The reason why I want to convert, is that in OneDrive if I try to change the SD card slot, and then a disc insists that the volume must be NTFS.

I do not have a PC on which I have micro SD slot, so I can't move this to my other machines and perform the operation there.

I'm sorry to say, it doesn't look like a good way to do it without putting the data on the card at risk. The only way I think it could be done, is to copy the data somewhere else or save it, then reformat the card, then copy the data on the map.

Sorry for the bad news.

Difference between material FAT & FAT32?

First, note that there are three varieties of FAT: FAT12, FAT16, and
FAT32. Many people call just FAT16 FAT, because before that FAT32 is out.
FAT16 is the only variety used for hard drives, so just
    The FAT was not enough.

FAT12 (hardly any more used) had a maximum volume size of 12 MB.
It has been used almost exclusively for floppy disks.

FAT16 was used on hard disks (or partitions) up to 4 GB and had a
cluster size which varied from 2 KB to 64 KB, depending on the size of
the partition. It serves almost never again, because almost nobody does
a as small as 4 GB partitions.

FAT32 FAT16 succeeded and has a maximum drive size of 2 TB. His
maximum file size is 4 GB, which explains why you can't copy a file of 5 GB to
it. its cluster size is 4 KB up to an 8 GB partition. Beyond 8 GB the
cluster size develops up to 32 KB.
NTFS, that's what almost everyone should use on their hard drives
today. Its maximum volume size is 2 ^ ^ 64-1 and its maximum file size
16 × 1024 is ^ ^ 6 bytes (much more than the bigger hard drive available
today). Cluster size is 4 KB, regardless of the size of the volume.

I have a disk full of files, and it is in the FAT32 file system. As I can't copy large files (5 GB +) in this player, I intend to fix this by changing the file systems.

    Good! You should.

Apparently, it is not possible to do it without formatting.

It's not correct. To convert to NTFS, use you the CONVERT
command. But first read http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm , because
There is an important question about the size of cluster that is not obvious.

Also note that conversion is an important step, touching everything on your
drive. When you take a big step, no matter how unlikely it is
always possible that something can go wrong. For this reason, there
careful to make sure that you have a backup of everything you can not afford to
    lose before you start.

  • Can ' RAW be converted to "NTFS" without formatting?

I replaced the power supply in my Dell Dimension 8200/Windows XP and added a new WD 250 GB HD as my master (C) and moved the may have "damaged" Maxtor 80 GB to the position "slave." Both hard drives are recognized as 'online' and 'Healthy' disk management, but 'C' is listed under the "NTFS" file system while 'E' is empty and listed as "RAW" file under properties system. The two HDs show scores. How can I convert the RAW file system in the primary partition of the HD 'E' slave without formatting and losing my data? Haven't found the "recovery discs" for sale online that appeared "reliable." Thanks in advance!

I didn't say it was worse.

  • How can I convert RAW hard Drives - Partition to Partition hard drives to NTFS without formatting hard drives?

Hard drive has already been partitioned into E: pilot and H:. However, recently, the format of the driver: suddenly changed from NTFS to RAW. There are some important data in this driver. I don't want to format this driver, unless the data can be retrieved.

I would like to ask for your help to find the solution for this problem.

  • Presentation of matrix raid NTFS without formatting?

    Hi all

I just installed ESXi 4.1 on a server that has a RAID of 4 TB, formatted NTFS.

The raid card is an Areca ARC - 1260ML. I got it working after working with the console!

However, I don't want to lose all my data on the RAID array and it is simply a lot of backup. How can I make this ESXi matrix RAID of the guest OS?

    Thank you very much

To be honest, I don't know!

My guess is, you will not be able to mount it to a virtual machine at all. However, if you are able to do this work somehow, I'd wait the corruption of data.

Hope you have a good backup in place

  • Converting FAT32 to NTFS

Have anyone of you already tried that? If so, what was the outcome? I have my Mac Boot Camp partition in FAT32 format. Unfortunately, I can't move the partition on a new and bigger hard drive without having to NTFS

As WinClone won't recognize FAT32. I fear of incompatibility with some applications after the conversion, as is common on Windows operating systems. Thank you...

    Convert FAT to NTFS

Q: is it possible to convert a hard disk FAT32 to NTFS without losing all the data on the disk? I like to change FAT32 to NTFS, my operating system is Windows XP PRO, how can I do this? Without the loss of my programs?

Standard A: utility in Windows that is called CONVERT serves this purpose

Just go to the command prompt and run the command:

    C:\ > CONVERT C:/FS: NTFS

Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert.

After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32 converted to NTFS without data loss.

    Hello

Unless the request is on the filesystem directly, there should be no problem.  It is however to all individual applications.

  • Connect a NTFS HARD drive directly to the virtual system without format (ESXi 5.0)

Hi, I am fairly new with ESXi and everything, so this may be a very stupid question. I installed ESXi 5.0 without any problem and it converted my old win Server 2008 without problem. Windows worked also as a data store and he had pretty much full 1 TB HARD drive connected to itself. Now, I would like to know how this HDD to NTFS to directly connect to this virtual machine. I can see the disk devices, but I could not find a way to connect to this computer. I wanted to make data store or something like that, but that in fact the data store is not possible without formatting the drive.

I would be grateful for any suggestion. Thank you

    Welcome to the community,

Although not supported (I suppose that the system is in any way a Whitebox) you could try to attach the drive as a ROW for the virtual machine. For how this can be done, take a look at http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/SATA_RDMs.php

  • Install Windows 8 automatically formats the hard drive? If this isn't the case, I should format it FAT or NTFS drive before installing Win/8?

Install Windows 8 automatically formats the hard drive?  If this isn't the case, I should format it FAT or NTFS drive before installing Win/8?

No, this isn't format the hard drive, what's done is put your existing version of Windows in a folder called "windows.old", it indeed erases old files of version and folders, leaving free space on the existing partition "NTFS" (formerly ocupied by your previous version of windows) in which is installed Windows 8.

And "NTFS" is the only file system that supports Windows 8.

  • How to change from fat to ntfs

I'm trying to update my bios, when I went from vista 32-bit to 64-bit windows 7, I had to change most everything in my laptop. My laptop is an acer with all amd products. He came with a very high range graphics, but I've improved it best I could. I continued to get problems such as that of crashing and things like the normal blue screen, so I did a bit of reading on the problem and found that I need to update my bios to accommodate improvements to the rest. NOW IS where the bat hurt. My file system (NTFS) is I think that I spelled correctly, however I tried and tried to update without success. That's when I looked at the properties of the specific file and he said down that (FAT) is the host file. This is my problem and if so how can I fix it. I worked on it for a year or better - I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GRATEFUL FOR the HELP!

    Hi Timcruce,

As you are facing problems with the update of the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the computer as they realese the BIOS updated.

Warning: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Changing the file system from FAT to NTFS is recommended in the Windows 7 operating system. However, the change of the file system is not bound with BIOS update.

  • I want to convert documents to PDF/A format as a batch process?

I want to convert documents to PDF/A format programmatically? Y at - it no tool to do? Can I get a link to the trial version of it?

    In detail, my question is:

I'm looking for a plug-in or tool that can convert pdf, word, excel documents to PDF/A format in batches, or treatment as a plug-in for a program.  Help, please.  Thank you.

OK, since we're not on a server, Acrobat becomes possible. (It is not allowed or technically adapted for a server). This must be run in a session interactive (no example of a service).

    Caution:

-Acrobat does not offer any Automation direct folder conversion, or watched folders

-Acrobat must be installed, able to run and not do something else (synchronous)

-Acrobat is designed for the automation of very light; don't think that configuration to run on hundreds of files without waiting for the failure of a certain type

-These automatisms are complex and sometimes run other applications like Word. There is a lot to go wrong, especially if the user is trying to do something else.

-Conversion of files to the PDF/A format requires firstly converted to PDF, and then automate the control upstream to PDF/A. I have seen a few reports of success with these, but a lot of pain too. the Acrobat SDK kit has many hold information but not samples or hand.

-Be sure you understand the PDF/A format, you need

-If you want to go to TIFF to text, you can also automate OCR, which seems even more heavy.

-The PDF/A formats with marking really correctly calls the text tag; in my view, automatic labelling is of very little value and no production process must be set to; creating PDFs correctly labeled is an operation very intensive work, which requires highly skilled operators.

  • Move LUNS from physical Windows area to an ESX VM without formatting

Hello. I'll convert machines physical (with converter stand alone) in virtual machines on my ESX servers.

These servers have local drives (for the OS, the quorum and other data readers) as well as multiple LUNS.

    First question:

My thoughts were to convert only local drives (jump the LUNS as they are already on the SAN). Then have the path of the SAN people (let me see) to my ESX servers. BIG draw back is that when I first plug a logic unit number, he wants to format. How can I connect to it and knew him ESX as store data without formatting? On the page [disk/LUN - formatting], there is no way NO format.

    Second question:

When you allow an ESX box to see a logic unit number that uses a Windows box, there is assertion that ESX wouldn't let me even see. It happens just to expiry. Is anyway about this or what I was removing people SAN paths to my Windows boxes and then add first to my ESX boxes later?  The SAN is controlled by another agency and this would add a lot of time in the middle and these servers are critical and can not be down for long.

If anyone can provide fairly detailed steps I would really appreciate it.

    INFORMATION:

    vCenter

    4.1.0 345043

    ESX servers

    4.1.0 < various levels of patch >

    physical boxes

    Windows 2003

    Hitachi Fiber Channel

    (1) you can use these LUNS as RDM (raw device mapping), in which case you do NOT have to reformat them.  You just create a mapping of RDM.  See page 140 of this document: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esx_server_config.pdf

    (2) Windows will apply the locks to the volume.  You need service entirely volumes of old guests prior to commissioning for the new ESX hosts.

  • Satellite A200-237: Visat Installation without formatting the two partitions

Yesterday, I installed Windws Vista and all other software for my Satellite A200-237.
A has 2 partition of my drive hard C and E.

I used E for my files just like I did with my computer laptop formar.
And when I installed windws xp that I formatted only C and E remained as it was, so I've always had my files on my laptop. I did the same with my formatted partition C AND e. visat toshiba and vista and unfortunately I lost all my files and I now have the partition C and F instead of C and E.

Is it possible (for the next time I re install vista and format the hard disk) without format my second partition?
Is this possible or do I really have a second HD?

I do not remember Vista asking me what partition I want to format and with XP, I had that choice.
    Help, please.

    Hello

Well. Usually it of possible, but only by using the original CD of Windows Vista.
Then, you choose the partition where the operating system must be installed.

Using the recovery CD all partitions will be deleted simply said; the recovery CD formats the entire HARD drive and you will lose all the data stored on the partitions

  • Qosmio G20: How to repair Windows without formatting?

    Hello
I have a qosmio G20 bought in October 2005. I need to repair my OS. The CD/DVD provided with the Windows XP MCE do not provide an option 'fix' as one provided when you buy a copy of Windows. How can I repair my OS without format my laptop?

Thanks in advance for your kind cooperation

    Antonis

The supplied restore CD does not contain the repair console because it s not an original Windows CD. The restore CD contains only an image of the files. Don't mix it with the CD of Microsoft!

To get into the repair console, you will need the original CD of Microsoft Windows.
I also read on the Microsoft site that it of possible to download the repair on 6 discs FDD console. Then you could boot from this drive FDD and you might be able to get into the repair console. But I have never tested this procedure.

I found this useful MS document also how to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP
