copy the vm-support journal ESXi host bundle

Can anyone suggest a way for me to make the beam of vm-support of an ESXi 4.0 Update 3 host? We don't allow SSH on our hosts for SCP and Veeam FastSCP came out. I tried several PowerCLI remote CLI commands and vMA and nothing seem to work. Any suggestions?

We create the bundle in unsupported mode and it seems to store the .tgz under/var/usr file but I do not see the file when I navigate to the folder on the vMA. I guess it is because another user (root) creates the beam and I am connected at VMAs with vi-admin.

When I run the command vifs.pl: alive < connection_options > g ' VM/VM.txt [StorageName]. "
Z 'ha-datacenter""tmp/backup/VM.txt. "

RCLI file cannot be located

When I run:

Get-Host HostNameOrIP | Get-Log -Bundle -DestinationPath c:\Storage\Location\

with Powercli I get the following error:

Get-Host: A positional parameter cannot be found by accepting the argument ' *. **
.**.**'.

+ Get-Host < < < < *. **. **. ** | Get-Log-Bundle - Destination c:\

(I replaced the IP with * for reasons of confidentiality)

Allows SSH really my ONLY option?

Your partition you want to pull the bundle of newspaper are there enough space? Sometimes, the size of the file for this could be huge. To check the free space on the Service Console, use "vdf h", the v includes VMFS, while "df-h" excludes VMFS.

So you might want to change the location where empty you these files.

You can also manually run vm-support - w/vmfs/volume/guid. Where guid is the guid a volume with a lot of space.

/etc/opt/VMware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg will actually show you where your logs are generated by default, and the number of files you have. Try to move / backup the files in/usr/lib/vmware/hostd/docroot/downloads. This contains all the files in package old newspapers. This should free up space to run the command vm-support.

And Yes, you can try to activate SSH to see if that helps too.

I hope this helps.

  • Copy the ISO data store ESXi on VM

    Hello

I'm quite new to virtualization and unable to understand the ways to copy the ISO file that is located on the data to a virtual computer store. Basically, I already installed ESXi and couple of Windows 2008 VM. Consider using one of this virtual machine as a server vCenter. Now, I have already downloaded from the VMware website and downloaded vCenter ISO to one of the data store.

However, unable to work how can I copy the ISO to this virtual machine file so that I can install vCenter server? I have read a few things on the internet and tried to use WinSCP within the virtual machine using the IP host address, but I get "no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.» the connection has failed. It is similarly after I activated the client FTP on ESXi host in the firewall. I am able to SSH (putty) to ESXi host with no problems.

How can I get this to work? Y at - it a simple method that might work? Is WinSCP way to go? If so, why it wouldn't work? Note it is lab home environment and there is no other firewalls between the two.

    Thank you

  • Objective 7.1 - guarantee the issue of ESX/ESXi hosts

    Hey all,.

I am currently working on my study guide for the DCA review and have fallen somewhat with the ESX/ESxi Secure objective 7.1 hosts and more specifically the section for "Customize SSH Seetings for increased security. The only documentation I could find about it is in the "ESX Configuration Guide" on page 202 and the VMware KB 1017910. In ESX config guide details how to REDUCE the requirements of security on default (allowing root access, change the version of the SSH protocol, etc.), and the article explains how to set a timeout for the technical support of Mode (both local and remote). I guess these aren't the types of answers they seek, as the section is to increase the level of security.

Any clarification or possilbe advice that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA,

  • 8.3 OMSA @ ESXi 6.0 U2 @ R515-> cannot log into the website OMSA to ESXi HOST.--

    Hello guys.

I've updated my ESXi of U3 5.0 to 6.0 U2 and I lost my OMSA. I can not connect from the web page.

For the update of the host, I used this ISO file:
    . VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update02-3620759.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00.iso

After that, I installed OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WINX64-8.3.0-1908_A00. EXE to a VM W2012S to this host. I can open the web site to connect, but when I try to connect to my ESXi HOST, I received this message: failed to connect... connection error.

When I saw that I began to check a few things, I ran: 'list of vib software esxcli' and I saw:

  • Should the RAM for an ESXi host replaced the same ones remaining?

    Hello

We are running a cluster of servers ESXi 5.1 - 2 of them are Xeon E7440 2.4 GHz (64 GB of RAM) and 1 of them is Xeon X 5460 3.16 GHz (32 GB of RAM).

Currently, the use of the memory of all three ESXi hosts are about 60%.

We will replace the Xeon X 5460 server with a new physical server. We would like to ask for your opinion how much RAM you must order (my manager of door on the cost of the new server).

    Thank you

    Hi again Tony,

    1. No, it is not high at all. You should begin to worry about this, after reaching approximately 85-90%.
    2. My short experience with clusters of memory-unbalanced, adding that more memory would be a lot like the DRS manages memory locations & 'kindness host' in the right direction, but I'm not really sure how that would turn out in the long term. If you decide to present more memory to your server, it would be possible to upgrade the other two guests sooner than later
    3. Yes, ask the seller would be the right thing to do. Please note that you will need to put in place an enhanced vMotion to conform to your next "older" CPU then, because you'll have something other than X 5460. I guess you'll have to "intensify" a generation or two, depending on what you have found.
  • Migrate the replication for patching ESXi host device

    Hi guys,.

I'm trying to Storage vMotion/migrate vSphere replication device to different host for ESXi patches. I get the following message

"This entity is managed by VR management solution. It is not recommended to edit it directly. Instead use the GPMC for the solution if you want to make changes. You want to proceed. "

I use vSpere replication without the SRM device. What is the best approach to upgrade ESXi host where there is replication Appliacce. Should I just stop then move the unit, or is it possible to move it while it is running?

    Kind regards

    MQ

    Hello

Moving the unit via the technology Vmware is perfectly fine.

The message/warning you receive is just to warn you that this VM is a critic and you must be careful. The same message if you invoke the power out of this machine.

  • Install the HBA drivers for ESXi hosts

We currently have a plan to install a new system with our spare essentials vCenter license, Emulex HBA cards in the DELL gear that we will make our ESXi hosts.

How to configure adapters HBAS in ESXi, can we recommend has someone already installed drivers Emulex HBA in an ESXi host?

Defining the ESXi host should not be a problem, but it is just to install the drivers in ESXi I'm stumped.

What version of ESXi, you install? Check the VMware HCL for IO devices and if you HBA is compatible, try to do a default install and maybe the ESXi will recognize and load the drivers without having to do any additional setup.

    Hello

the link that I commented, explian how to monitor the status of the ESXi hardware by using the cmdlets for powershell CIM 3.0.

    Not the virtual machines

Check this code from the link, you should notice that connects to an esxi host, not virtual machines:

  • Quick newb question: possible to 'navigate' the file on an ESXi host computer system remotely?

As the subject says: is it possible to 'Browse' the file system to an ESXi host through a GUI tool on the server vCenter Server, instead of having to navigate this one via e.g. puTTY?

    JH

OK... think about it. WinSCP and enabling SSH on the host computer ESxi is the key.

  • Create the role in each ESXi host

I need to create a 'Test' role with only 'Browse datastore' on each ESXi host in the vCenter server.

OK, I see, you need a role on each server ESX (i). It is possible both with the cmdlet New-ferrule.

    Get-VMHost | %{

    $esx = Connect-VIServer-Server $_-user root - password $pswd

    New-ferrule-name Test-"Datastore.Browse" of privilege-Server $esx

    Disconnect-VIServer-Server $esx - confirm: $false

    }

The script will connect to each ESX (i) server, create the role on the (i) ESX Server (with the server parameter) and disconnect.

You will need to have the root password in the $pswd variable.

  • VCenter 4.1 can handle the new 5.0 ESXi hosts

    Hi all

Just to check with you people so vCenter 4.1 is able to manage and configure ESXi 5.0 hosts. I'll have a few new servers will be setup using vSphere 5.0. I am worried if his support. Travel to vCenter 5.0 plan is in the road map.

    Hello.

No, you will need to vCenter Server 5 to manage ESXi 5 hosts. It is documented in the matrix of interoperability of products.

    Good luck!

  • Copy the old system to ESXi?

Hello I have a slight problem with ESXi...

I want to copy old vmx (Windows Server 2008 + System.vmx team) file to a new system of ESXi.

After some googling, I found on ovfTool. And that I would need to convertfiles.

Now, I have a slight problem. The ovfTool does not work. So I can't try this conversion.

Is someone can please tell me that either have been finding a decent job. (I have read http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_quickstart.pdf) on the old VMwareStasions of loading.

Or how can I do this? Since I kinda need it...

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Robin

OK, I'm going to assume you are currently on a system of ESXi and want to go to another system of ESXi.

Since you'd already be ESXi on a host, so if you have the storage space, you can use the browser data store to download config as vm and all of its files, store locally and then download them on your new host ESX via the browser to store data again. No other tool would be necessary, but you must have the storage to contain what you need to transfer.

  • vSphere client using the name Netbios on ESXi host does not connect using the credentials of a Windows session

I have 3 ESXi 5.5 hosts, all connected to a single server vCenter, where we try to authenticate directly to the host by using the windows logon credentials. I have installation of the Administrators group of ESX and filled with the admin accounts that I want to be able to authenticate to the host. The Netbios name of the domain is tstdomain (for example) where the domain name is tstdomain.com. If I connect directly to a host and check the checkbox 'Use Windows Session Credentials', the vSphere client will default by using the Netbios name of tstdomain\adminusername and the connection will fail indicating that the username and/or password is incorrect. If I enter the domain name of tstdomain.com\adminusername, I am able to connect to the host without error.

Does anyone know how get past that this matter have the vSphere client uses the domain name or to use the Netbios name and connect with the credentials to active directory? I looked by editing the file/etc/hosts and checked that the SPN of the host is correct in active directory with the command hostname setspn - l, with no luck on one. I also tried to change the field of research for the Netbios name of tstdomain rather than the tstdomain.com domain name, also did not work.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Seems that this issue was due to a slow network and the connection timeout when you try to talk to the domain controller. I am able to connect with windows creds now, but the connection is very slow. I increased the default period of 30 to 60 seconds to help work around the problem.

  • Access the SMB storage using esxi host and manage with MS server 2008

Hi there, I know the subject line can be confusing, but I didn't know how to explain what I need in the line object in such a short sentence.

in any case, I have a storage device SMB, a Promise VTrak M610P, which is attached to a blade server 1U HP through interface channels double Ultra 320 SCSI host. I can't configure the VTrak as a NFS, the only way to access logical drives is connected to a server via the scsi channels and using the operating system to share the drive and the shared disks.

I would use a server blade with dual ultra 320 SCSI host interface channels and connect the VTrak to this server blade. Then I would install ESXI hypervisor OS 5.5 to this server blade. I want to know is if the ESXI operating system will recognize the logical drives and if I create a virtual machine with MS server 2008 and see if the virtual machine detects logical drives, so that I can share the drives? I hope that I'm supposed to and if I'm not, please let me know what makes no sense, I will do the best to explain it better.

    Thank you

    Andy

So it turns out that there seems to be something wrong with vClient when you add a hard disk (virtual disk) to a virtual machine of size greater than 4 TB. Article VMware KB: value of range error message when you add more than 4 TB capacity discs in vSphere Client describes this if you encounter this problem, add the hard drive via vSphere CLI, CLI power or vmkfstools. So this seems to be a known issue on vClient. What I ended up doing was using vClient, creation of hard disk, adding to the virtual machine (size of the hard drive is to 5.45) and when I would get the error message on the DiskCapControl out of reach, I would just click OK and then finalize the creation of the hard drive on the virtual machine. Once the process is complete, I selected the virtual machine and noticed that he indeed added a new HDD size 5.45 TB even if he's complained about it. I pulled to the top of the virtual machine with windows server 2008 R2 installed and was able to create a new disk under windows and set it up as a shared drive on the network. Looks like vClient must be updated by VMware and correct this bug, if it's a bug that I think. Thank you for the help vervoort!
