Corrupt VMDK Trojan?

I have run ClamXAV virus scan, and it quarantined my file Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk here is the crawl log:

2011-05-18 14:53:13 Users/daveheid/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk: Trojan.Autoit.gen FOUND
2011-05-18 14:53:13 Users/daveheid/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk: moved to "/ Users/daveheid/Documents/quarantined files/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk'"
2011-05-18 14:53:26 Users/daveheid/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk: Trojan.Autoit.gen FOUND
2011-05-18 14:53:26 Users/daveheid/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk: moved to "/ Users/daveheid/Documents/quarantined files/Windows XP Home Edition-000001 - s001.vmdk'"
Now, when I run Fusion 3.1.2 I get an error that says:
Could not open the file "/ users/daveheid/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized / Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm / Windows XP Home Edition - 000001.vmdk ': the system cannot find the specified file.
How can I get my VM running again with the data I had?
Thank you

While browsing forums ClamXav, this seems to be a recurring issue.  Many people say to exclude files of the virtual machine, and it is usually good practice in the world of Windows as well.  Looks like the Trojan.Autoit.gen is on the XP system, and you could use a Windows AV scanner in the prompt to check and see.  I don't think that there is a threat to this horse Trojan for Windows Mac, but I recognize that start over from scratch is a good way to move forward.

    Hi paulcerda Sepulveda,.

What antivirus software you have installed?

    (a) I recommend you run a virus scan online from the link given below and check if the problem persists.

    Microsoft safety scanner

Also, make sure that you have the latest update of the software antivirus installed on your computer, so that it works correctly.

    (b) you can also download & run Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer.

ATTENTION: Please save the file hard before changing, to make sure that we have a way back to the original/current state!

With the .bin file attached is executed:

    DSFI.exe ' ROS Indigo commune 64_v1 - disk2.vmdk ' 0 1536 "ROS Indigo commune 64_v1 - disk2.bin.

  • Viruse or something on Win XP?

Hey guys, well I have this problem...

I had some corrupted by Trojan registry files that my anti virus registred (talk about real sword 5 trial version) and because it is not a full version of anti virus I couldn't remove those using anti virus, but I havd to do it manually, I did.

Once this anti-virus didn't detect it more which probably means that I removed from my computer.
Now, the problem is that I have same questions without virus as I have.
These questions would be, I can not open any page web antivirus as long as I don't look upward for some not so famous antivirus, I have also the problem editing Avira anti virus (whan I start instalation just disables the instalation without warning process).

Another problem is that my printer is not working, and I can't run windows in safe mode.
I'm 100% sure that this becouse happends to the virus (not sure of safe mode), now my question is: given that I removed the virus and it is not detectable, why I same questions as I have viruses?

Can someone help me solve this problem and please tell me how :D

    THX in advance

To be honest, I think the best way is to reinstall Windows.

Sorry, but in this case there are a lot of dysfunction and it would take so much time to fix all.
If you have the laptop recovery disk, boot from it and reinstall Windows.
It only takes a few minutes.

well - it's the missing piece

Compressed NTFS is a bad choice to store VMDK.

VMDK stored on compressed NTFS may crash at any time - leaving the corrupt VMDK.

I would like to decompress the d: partition if possible - otherwise move the virtual computer to NTFS uncompressed location

  • Storage VMotion failed - LUN "Ongoing resource of use"

I had a VM, sitting on an oversized LUN, so I reduced the size of the LUN.  The result is a corrupt VMDK.  It's nice that I can rebuild not the end of the world.  The problem is that when I right click on the virtual machine, that it only allows me to "Migration complete" - I can't delete the virtual machine.  If I select a full Migration it will fail to 33% with the error "the virtual disk is either corrupt or not a format supported."  If I tried to remove the source LUN or destination LUN I get an error "resource is in use.  So my question is how do I get rid of this virtual machine and these LUNS so I can start again.

Always disconnect shows upward in the inventory.  This part of a cluster?  Disconnect the server. Remove the host ESX to vCenter.  Then, add it in.  Sometimes, remove the server from the cluster is enough, but you may need to remove the vCenter server.

that corrupt vmdk - best thing you can try is copying the vmdk on a Windows host and try to read with vdk

  • VMDK file corrupted

I have corrupted files vmdk and tried a few elements in order to retrieve the data, and have so far not had much luck.

I downloaded the virtual disk Development Kit and ran the vmware - vdiskmanager.exe on main vmdk file.  All I get is that the file is corrupted and cannot be repaired.  I tried to install the trial of the workstation Pro... happy to pay for it if she fixed my drive... and that did not help much.

I tried to use Stellar Phoenix data recovery Virtual Machine ... who actually was able to see the files... most of them at least... but recover them I have to pay $300.  I'd rather pay money for Pro workstation so I have something to use later $300 for recovery I need I hope just this one time.  Then... Are there additional options?  Is there a data recovery integrated with Pro Workstation somewhat like what is the use of Stellar?

  • The VMDK Corruption after VDP 6 backup

    Hello

I went to migrate a server this morning after that POS had finished its backup jobs and noticed that one of my virtual machines showed their hard disks as 0 b.

I removed the hard drives in the hope of re - add to the virtual machine by trying to re-add that no records were listed in the virtual computers folder when browsing the data store.

Then the research manually the data store, these are the files listed:

    SERVER - ctk.vmdk

    SERVER - flat hard

    Server_1-000001 - ctk.vmdk

    Server_1-000001 - delta.vmdk

    SERVER_2 - ctk.vmdk

    SERVER_2 - flat hard

But NONE of these vmdk are listed by trying to pick up the VM.

Can anyone help me / point me in the right direction?

    Very appreciated

From the information provided, I created the file descripter is missing for the snapshot file / delta and modified the virtual machine configuration (.vmx) file.

What you need to do is:

    • Download the two files in the folder of the virtual machine
    • Remove the block chanhed (ctk.vmdk...) track files, or make sure that the next backup is a full backup
    • Delete the file .vmsd
    • reload the file the.vmx (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026043)
    • create a new snapshot, so that you can return to the case that something does not work as expected

Given that the virtual machine has been turned on with the basic disk, I highly recommend running chkdsk to fix any possible data corruption.

After this - if everything works as expected - be sure that you 'Delete All' snapshot in the snapshots, provided Manager you annex free disk space (up to ~ 300 GB may be necessary).

    Thank you

    Mark

It turns out that the file is missing only one block of 64K at the end, who could probably get written when the system blocked. Therefore very little loss of data.

Please make a backup of Windows 7 - s013.vmdk (or the VM around just to be sure). Then run the following command to add a block of 64K of zeros at the end of the file:

    dd bs=64k count=1 oseek=15742 conv=notrunc if=/dev/zero of="/Users/markburgess/Documents/Virtual Machines/Windows 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7-s013.vmdk"

The new file size should be 1031733248 bytes. Try to run the virtual machine with the fixed file and download the new vmware.log if there another error (it is possible that the other files of measure were also corrupt).

I recommend you do a check disk Windows complete with chkdsk /f as soon as it is running, to make sure it gets repaired if necessary.

  • Split VMDK - some corrupted files

We had an outage on a host VMware Server 2.0 and two files that were part of a split VMDK file, have been corrupted.  We ran:

    fsck.reiserfs--rebuild-Arbre/dev/sda2

For I hope to bring those corrupted files back to life, but no, they are completely missing

I know it's a stretch, but it is anyway to bring back this VMDK to life, although it missed about 4 GB of data?

It's on a virtual machine Windows Netware 6.5.  When I go to the 'parent' VMDK file and remove the lines referring to these two files, I can add that virtual disk back, but the server Netware do not see as valid a partition.

    Hello

you have backups of the missing sections - even if they are very old?

We need to replace the missing slices increments using the exact same file system and partition layout.

So we plan A = replace the missing slices with one of a backup you have ay

Plan B = recreate the same exact drive to produce new slices.

If you need to create a new brand of disc you are using the same partition as the original used layout and format with the same options you used before.

I did before with disk formatted NTFS and ext3 - in these cases, we could restore most of the files.

I don't know how Netware will react to this?

  • VMDK deleted NTFS corruption

We had someone accidentally press the DELETE key on a folder in one of our data warehouses.  Of course, as soon as they did all the files except the apartments have been removed for this Windows 2003 server.

With Vmware, we have been able to rebuild the VMDK and start the system.  This system has a basic disk and the snapshot 1 or snapshot 2.  Snapshots are properly sorted and when we started the system she wanted to do a check disk.  When you have finished checking the disk it is reported that the software registry hive has been broken.  We've fixed the registry using the copies in the directory system32 of repair of the operating system.

When you go to a part of the directories, however, they are not able to access due to an error of alteration that we receive.  Anyone have any suggestions on some utilities that we could use to recover data from those directories that we cannot access?

At first glance, it seems that the chaining is not correct.

However, I need power to the top of my test to double check system.

I guess the 000001 is the vmdk referred to in settings of the VM HARD drive!

Could you please your newspaper of zip files and join them for me?

  • VMDK corruption after an accidental deletion...?

    Hey guys,.

I did some poking around here and I couldn't find a discussion that corresponded to the situation for which I face.  I pray to GOD I'm not screwed...

The short of it... MacBook Pro in Win XP Pro SP3 via VMware Fusion.  Works very well yesterday.  Had a bunch of clutter on my desktop Mac and moved a bunch of stuff in the trash... including my virtual XP machine package. (OF OOOH) Stop at the end of the day not shown any sign of problems.  When I went to start this morning I get the "file not found: Windows XP Professional-000002 - s002.vmdk.  Instantly, I knew it.  Restored the VM package on the desktop and it does not contain this file, but merge seems to ignore the fact that it is there.

Here is an excerpt of the .log file:

This is probably because the file Windows XP Professional.vmsd being a length of zero, when it does not, however, this is what I would try...

Shutdown, not, suspend the Virtual Machine, and then close merger.

In the Finder, open the packaging of the Virtual Machine and file ctrl + click on the Windows XP Professional - 000002.vmdk and select open with > VMDKMounter

If it can be installed without error, that there should be an icon without a title the office which you can then browse and see if your returned data user is there and if you should save the user data before you do anything else.
