  • Integration Orchestrator and VIPR

Looking at integration with vRO and VIPR and a few questions:

I use vrealize automation, so that pretty much defines vRO as the engine of orchestration in terms of sizing the virtual machine and vCloud. When should I take the EMC storage associated aspects I must orchestrate and use VRO to them directly and when should I stand up VIPR and have vRO make calls to VIPR?

    Hello

I think that the two strategies are valid and possible. I would contact EMC for the ViPR plugin and information on its roadmap.

If the plugin provides on the workflows of box for the tasks you want to automate, while probably will allow you to create your solution with much less effort.

Also, if EMC maintains the ViPR plugin in the future, you will not be worrying a lot of back-end storage systems updates, ViPR and the ViPR plugin because (hopefully) the details of the version and maintains the compatible plugin.

On the other side, if you now (and for the foreseeable future) only have a little small (aka easy to implement) tasks of automation to the storage system that you need for your global sourcing of VM / life cycle process, then adding ViPR is perhaps an overdose (and introduce more complexity in the overall architecture as necessary).

So as usual, the answer is: it depends on :-)

    I hope this helps!

  • Reservation at the ResPools

    Dear guys,

I know that of course I have to read a lot of documentation, but I wanted to comment on that.

I recently attended a VMware vSphere design workshop and one of the subject was the idea of managing the reservation of RAM and CPU to the use of RP rather than at the VM level.

Then I had discussion with VMware TAMs on the fact, that it is always best to use a booking at the virtual machine level and not RP.

I'm a bit confused because I had some important VMs to have booked a number of CPU and RAM.

I sized these virtual machines and I took the amount which, for me, was to be used by the VM and I assigned the total to the RP, I want to put this VMs in.

In this way, I leave the PR to manage resources and assign them to virtual machines accordingly.

I feel not comfortable assigning reserve to the single cause of virtual machines, I have thousands of virtual machines and it is perhaps not very handy.

I agree with VMware guys that that way I'm not sure that any particular virtual machine will have memory better than another VM in the same RP.

    What do you think?

    Daniele

in fact, this can only be possible through the level of the vm configuration

Illustrator keeps crashing and is virtually unusable (I'm on a Mac, Yosemite)...

I read several forum other messages that address the same issue and the Council is mainly to "reinstall the software."

However, I tried to do and it doesn't seem to be an option to reinstall when my account management. I also tried once again, the redemption code to reset, but it tells me that I am already logged under that number, so I'm stuck. Don't know what to do at this point, thank you.

I found another thread that said changing the display processor instead of GPU and contributing to the issue that is. I would rather not reinstall the software at this time.

  • Virtualized MS SQL Guests, performance, and sizing of opponents

    Hello all,.

Sorry it's long, I just wanted to paint the picture of what is my environment and what questions arise.  If you do not read this, reply and help, THANKS!

I need to comment on everything that you the VMware Pros out there on the execution of MS SQL databases and other applications in VMware ESX 4.  We are a VMware shop for 7 years now, and we have grown and lived several improvements.  I'm a PCV, were about the only administrator of our environment all the time.  I am not however a SQL DBA, so consider myself pretty ignorant when it comes to tuning and work with databases, including MS SQL, but I'm not a total noob.  This creates friction with the suppliers and the app guys pretty constantly.

I go through the usual routine on every two months everything physical with all of our application servers more frequent and from VMware for small servers as print servers.  So far, however, we have always managed to continue to virtualize and grow.  But every day, I get the usual routine of the people app and the types of non-technical on adding MORE CPU and RAM whenever one has the impression of slowness.  Sometimes, they come to me right out of the box and want 8 CPUS and 8 GB of ram on each new server, but 2 weeks after moving into production, I look at the performance numbers and see 5% use cpu and 3 GB of memory consumed.  There are several clubs who dope for a few hours, while a report is run, and if the numbers show have been bottlenecking I'll add resources.  Usually I insists that they start small and try to properly size a box, but it often a case of me vs from the crowd and I am forced to 'give way '.

I have a few allies, but I'm increasingly outnumbered we grew up.  I read manuals and white papers and understand the majority of the documentation there.  I made my own trials and experimentation with different settings and you have a pretty good environment from my point of view.  I saw several very busy servers works amazingly well, that explains why we continue to stay virtual.  However, I have seen times where the environment does not play as well as I expect and there is always room for improvement.  I feel this overpopulation and with allowance contribute in a number of cases.

I have 3 blade environments, but in this case I will reduce it to 2 of the hosts and give a quick overview of what we are running.

The first is a picture of blade HP c3000 with 8 bl460 they are dual quad core boxes intel, with 32G RAM, connections FC 4 G and 1 G Ethernet.

The second is an array of HP with 4 bl680c c7000 blade they are six quad core boxes intel with connections of CF 40 G RAM 8 G and 10 G Ethernet to each.

My SAN is a compellent, its got about 64 disks, in the 4 speakers (shelves of disks) 1/2 are CF disks as low is SATA.  Evaluation tests show flow depends on factors of the configuration of the machine virtual, but in general, 150 - 200 MB/s, so I have flow test and I can get IOPS / s about 3000-4000 or more when my settings are suitable for PAHO es / s.  Some tools report different, so there is always a margin for manoeuvre.

Add us new c7000 knives so I just started to migrate, but before the upgrade, I had on the boxes of 8 x 8way 113vms, 275 GB of RAM, distribution, and allocated 260 of vcpu.  With 256 physical RAM G, we used the 275G, not a too terrible of a stipend, however I had to plead to upgrade of physical of 192 ram when ballooning began to cause me misery.  However, I think having 64 physical CPU and allocate virtual CPU 260 seems a little strong but the values overall ready and fresh total CPU overhead of the army are not too bad, but we occaisonal spikes.

Now for the moment "get to the point" I once again was faced with the mantra "we cannot virtualize MS SQL.  I agree that the physical servers run faster when you perform evaluation tests.  In particular, Direct Attached Storage.  However, we officially run several databases on vm and some on physical boxes, and Yes, both have performance problems.  I made several assessment tests, myself and even have developed a few tricks that can make my SAN smoking with performance, if I sacrifice a small fault tolerance in the setup of the hard.  What I do have are a ton of virtualization MS SQL experience to go with it.  Again, I saw several boxes of db work fine and work to the satisfaction of users and administrators.  The problem often resolves around the question «when to go» physical

Several types of dba and app vendors of times have all at one time or another wailed that virtualization has been the cause of the problem.  Only after a few painful weeks/months to go back jump through hoops (and "give in" to an increase in resources in the face of irrational) try to prove to them that I have given enough resources and performance was tolerable limits, they do dig and find that their problem was a configuration problem lame.  It HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES and is quite frustrating!

I would like some comments and experiences of those who have the knowledge to direct me to the answers that I have to myself with arms when these questions arise again and again.  I searched a few good doc and white papers for the execution of the db on VMware, the calibration of the volumes, number of CPU, RAM considerations, Ops ARE / s and flow but never really happened upward with the news of the real world.

Thanks again for your comments and for reading this novel!

    Good mug shot!

SQL is a difficult to virtualize, load but it is possible, don't forget you can have big, animated virtual computer in your environment, but it will affect the ratio of grouping.

Even if you get 2 boxes SQL occupied on a slide, even when taking into account the addition of VMware license cost, it can still work cheaper.

Storage plan as it was physical - do not use of RDM, but you don't want to make use of the additional vSCSI adapters and with a low number of VM data warehouses and the correct RAID type for the data (so separate volumes for OS/data/logs/Tempdb/Backup)

  • How to configure virtual memory

original title: can I have a virtual memory support on my LE1600 motion tablet that has a recent clean install of Windows XP with all the driver updated day and MAX Ram installed and activated?

    About virtual memory size

Control Panel > system > Advanced tab > Performance - Settings button > button change tab advanced - virtual memory box - > choices are

    -Custom size

    -System Managed Size (checked)

    -No pagefile

It is said that size is 5120 MB

    -minimal allowed 2 MB

    -Recommended 2287 MB

    -Run 1 525 MB

System just told me it's too small and it's not the it and if I want to find out more, look in help. But there is no help button. Only the button is OK

Please tell me if there is SOMETHING I can do. I'm really tired of this computer runs slowly in time and ignoring the mouse input. And I am sure that I have no malware problem. Perhaps he too little RAM for what is happening? I have the max ram installed and activated, which can be accessed at http://www.memoryx.net/mocolectapcm.html

Please could I have a few tips specific given by someone so me (a person of no pc specialist) can I try to fix this problem without spending money I don't have or sending it anywhere be it fixed because I can not afford to do so, but I need to work a lot faster. It has always been a slow Tablet but now it is sometimes ridiculous. Sometimes it's 'OK', but it is not ALWAYS admirable.

Windows works the way it is supposed to work.  How much memory is being used by the system and applications running exceeds the sum of physical memory (RAM) and the file for the current page, Windows automatically increases the size of the page file (unless your hard drive is close to full).  The message you see Windows reacts to a heavy load on your system - it is not the result to set the filename of the page.

When the message says: "Look in the help", you should do it.  Click Start > Help and Support, and then type
    virtual memory
in the search box.  Look for the section titled "Managing your computer's performance."

A good explanation of how Windows XP deals with 'virtual memory' starts here--> http://www.theeldergeek.com/paging_file.htm in particular, you should read the section on 'Sizing page file'

If your system is slow, it is because it is overloaded or with applications that you run intentionally malicious (you do not give the basis of your belief that you are sure that you don't have a malware problem).  Take a look at the processes listed in the Task Manager.  Do you know what they all are?  Do you really need for each of them to run?  Those who take the biggest percentage of cycles CPU?  Don't bother looking at the 'memory' column - which will really help you in determining which slows things.

If your system is like most, you'll probably multiple instances of svchost.exe running.  It's normal.  You can use Process Explorer to see what svchost is doing (details here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/list-services-running-under-svchost.exe-process/) but you can try this first easy way:

Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
In the black command prompt window, type the following line and press enter

    Tasklist/SVC /fi "imagename eq svchost.exe".

[This is an 'eye' tiny 'eff' after the slash - abbreviation for filter]

You will get a list like this:

    Image name PID Services
    ========================= ====== =============================================

  • TMS and virtual VCS

    Hello

I know that the VCS and TMS can be virtualized.

On the documentation, I found that the VCS can be deployed on the same host as the other virtual machines (cohabitation) following some guidelines for sizing (resourses must be allocated 1:1, it means that there is no excess applications).

I also read that MSDS can also be virtualized, following the same guidelines of resources:

"Cisco TMS can be installed in a virtualized server environment as long as the virtual machine by a Cisco TMS is allocated sufficient resources dedicated to meet the requirements of server and hardware for installation. The resources allocated to the Cisco TMS server instance must be dedicated and not shared with other instances of server. ""

What I do not know if the TMS accepst co-residensy with other applications. Which makes me doubt is:

"Cisco TMS is resource intensive with specific server requirements, which increase with the level of activity and the size of the managed network video. With the help of a server that hosts other applications or Web sites for accommodation Cisco TMS is therefore not supported. "

I don't know if this means that non-corresidensy is supported or that no other application in addition to TMS must be deployed on the same OS.

What I really want to accomplish with it is to virtualize the TMS, the VCS Highway and control of the VCS on the same server of UCS. Would it be supported by TAC?

    Kind regards

Hi, this means that the TMS server should be dedicated to the application of TMS. No other hosted applications should be present on the same OS.

    Hope that helps.

  • Number of virtual machines per server

This number varies greatly with the type of workload and of (among other variables) network connectivity, but what would you say is a common number of virtual machines running on a particular server (NIC10 G ) platform? 10? 20? 40? The number of sockets/cores on this server?

    Any contribution is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hey Ex,.

This issue of $ 1 million has been requested several times before.  The answer is simple - there is no definitive answer.  There are so many variables that contribute to the number of virtual machines, you can run on a server:

    -number of Sockets
    -Core per socket

    -CPU speed

    -Density memory

    -Bandwidth allocated by host

    -Storage connectivity & bandwidth

-Attributes VM & function of workload (amount of memory, CPU & disk by virtual machine)

Although you can probably squeeze a lot more virtual machines per server with densities increased memory & CPU power, also increases your default domain name.  HA may be able to 'recover' virtual machines on a failed host, but how virtual machines are you willing to lose only once?  When sizing of your hosts, also the failover capabilities take into account.  Each of your cluster hosts should be able to tolerate the failure of at LEAST one host and meet all the requirements of memory & processor of the additional virtual machines now spread over the remaining hosts in the cluster.  This is why administrators does not often grow over 60% of the capacity of their hosts.  VMware uses a calculation of size "slot" to ensure you have adequate to your cluster failover capacity.

As typical, I see regularly around the mark of 20 VM per server on a typical 2-socket server with 96 GB of memory and dual 10 G uplinks.  It is also good to think that most software licenses (VMware, Nexus 1000v etc.) is based on the counts of socket, and since the memory is going to be your first argument point - servers that can support large amounts of memory are usually an ideal choice.  B250 is perfectly placed to virtual workloads like this, while the B230 is a little firecracker with a bit more CPU power under its hood so you need.

As vague as I was, I hope this starts your thought process

    Kind regards

    Robert

  • Sizing of VMware Infrastructure

If you are going to build a VMware infrastructure, consider yourself the hyperthreading the processor function in order to have several virtual machines per server.

    Example:

    carrots 2 x 10 = 20 hearts (Physics)

    40 carrots (with hyperthreaading)

I guess that 75% will be used for virtual machines and 1 vCPU per VM

    1-15 virtual machines for physics

    2 30 VMs with hyperthreading

which is the best architecture, based on the physical cores or it is safe to use the feature hyperthreading for VM deployment.

Finally, if I use the physical cores, is it safe I guess 1 physical core = 4 vCPU?

    Thank you!

You must not consider hyper-threading, you still share the physical heart.  Here is a good article about the sizing and hyper-threading Gotcha Hyper-Threading with Machine vCPU virtual sizing - Wahl network

    It's safe I guess 1 physical core = 4 vCPU?

You should never assume anything in a design unless support can be posted in the event of oversubscription, you must confirm that your workload won't suffer degradation performance if the CPU use increases.  You really need to understand the workload and usage patterns.

  • View sizing

    Hello!

Could someone give some info proven components to view sizing? In the installation guide you can see recommendation only for 50 + users - minimum 10 GB of RAM for the connection to the server.

What resources (vCPU, RAM) should I assign to virtual machines: connection to the server, composer - if I have 1000 + users? and how many servers should I include in the design?

    Thank you.

    Hi Bugatt1

Although it is easy for some to throw numbers and data encrypted to you.

I would recommend instead that you build yourself a POC environment with minimum requirements and crawling slowly the necessary resources so that understand you what is required according to demand.

VMware View will complain, if the connection view servers do not have enough memory, but you will be followed anyway, that by the EVENTS.

The CPU on virtual Center and view composer will just max out when you start cloning quite vms, if not spec'd right.

But you should also know what underlying storage using your.

    Just keep looking for bottlenecks.

I do not use 10 GB of ram on my server connections I use 6 GB by VCS and there are 3 of them serving 700 jobs. (2 internal load-balanced) and the other which is paired with the Security server.

  • Machine configuration virtual setting advanced

5.5 hardening guide says that you have to disable the ability to automatically install VMware tools in a virtual machine if you are targeting a 2 risk profile (which is the description of the risks related to any standard compliance).

Does this mean that if I have a vCenter Management Server and a set of virtual machines that are in the scope of HIPAA and some that are not, should I do not allow automatic installation of tools from VMware vCenter and the VMs of HIPAA in the scope?

    Hello

Yes, he does. However, it does not exclude the use of tools such as Intigua, Puppet, head to automate the upgrade of the tools by other means. The problem is that upgrades tools can change the behavior and you know why you are doing upgrades, how they are made, when they are made, etc.. Not only that they need to be changed for HIPAA for example at the same time so there is no drift VMtools.

  • How everyone counts the total amount of GHz for virtual machines on a host-cluster?

    Hello

I want to do some basic sizing and I may\may do not go the way to write about it.  For example, suppose I have a cluster of 4 nodes with a total of 200GHz and 1 TB of RAM on all four hosts with 100 VM.  How can I get the total amount of GHz\Memory that each virtual machine is configured with (not necessaryly to aid real-time) so that I can workout or demonstrate what fits on one or two hosts in the cluster, for example?

Thanks for your help and advice in advance

You can do this via the inventory tool called RVTOOL which allow you to do an inventory of all your virtual machines and hosts with the resource assigned and served. hope, it will help you.
