Data compression

Hi all

I had the data compression of my cube of planning set to "Bitmap encoding".  However, when I check the compression rate stats is showing as zero.  Is this normal or is there something I'm missing?

Thank you.

Kind regards

Gerd

How to check the compression rate, Gerd you?

EAS only shows the compression rate to two decimal places.  If the density of block is very low, the compression ratio can be rounded to zero.  But if you check with MaxL, you will see a more accurate value.  The command is:

ask the Sample.Basic database is dbstats data_block;

Of course, this requires that there is actually data in the cube (which can be seen through the block count statistics).

If you want only to save disk space, you can compress the dump file with an application of operating system when the dump is complete.

Otherwise, you can check the exported data, if you can exclude all the data from the dump.

  • Partitioned data compression

We use the score range based on the day. After 14 days, the data are not updated. Retain us the data for 6 months and would like to do online because he is questioned on low frequency (less than 100 requests per day). We do not use Exadata-

    My question:
Should what compression options I -
    (a) compress the table or Table space - for all data
    (b) compresses the data after 14 days

We also use physical data guard so we want that everything what is done to activate to replicate with the day before.

    Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately with a physical standby force logging might be the question, like everything else you will need to test this to see the impact you are having.

Don't forget with a physical standby is a long distance location if you have the license of advanced compression that I would look in the compression of archive recovery sent to the physical standby this can help a lot of esp in case of gusts in the short term is the physics of the day before.

If you keep enough small partitions and then run the move out of the main operating hours and compress him redo archive, you can see that periodic bursts of daily partitiong cannot be the heavy question, that you think that perhaps, test it and see.

  • do I really want to compress all my data?

    Hello

I'm a peasant total techno and was trying to find out how much space was left on my macbook pro 2009.  In the finder, I saw "compress data" and thought that I remembered how to seller by recommending day to do so.  I clicked it, and my computer is making its way through 183,59 GB of data compression, which according to her, will take 5 days!  When I tried a google search, I came across a lot of complicated things that sounds like you should be only compress one file at a time.

While we are there, please can you me how do I know how much space is left on my computer?

Thanks a lot and it's okay if you roll your eyes.

    Dana

    Hi Dana,

You compress your entire hard drive? Or only some data on the hard drive folders?

Compression of data such as pictures, documents, pdf files, and other similar files is perfectly OK!

A file is made up of a bunch of metadata. Metadata is simply data about data. Well, there is some metadata is just useless in a file and there is no advantage. With compression, the file gets processed and been ejected from some of its attributes and metadata which translates to a much smaller file size.

However, there are some data that you don't want to compress. It comes to binary files that build the operating system (OS). If you plan to compress these file types, then corruption is likely to occur or may occur. When data compression, make sure that you can do without affecting your operating system files.

The reason why your compression takes so long is that you MOST likely have a disk speed is very low. Depending on your model laptop and the year, you most likely have a tough guy who has a speed of 5400 revolutions per Minute (RPM). This is... the magnetic disks inside the hard drive that revolve around a single PIN for read and write data. Low RPM train speed slow drive, which slows EVERYTHING down. * And to emphasize, if your drive is old and has a lot of reads/writes that took place during his life, so the speed of the discs degrade. This is what we call performance degradation.

In your scenario, I guess you have a slow drive, low RAM and a processor low range. Given these factors, it would take time to process and compress all data on your drive.

I suggest you kill the compression operation. Compression is really intended to those who is EXTREMELY low on disk space and they have no choice OR you have pure RAW data which can slow down operations in an application, you are working with, in which case compress you the data to remove some of that unnecessary metadata.

In the future, when you get a new machine, it is preferable to an installation on your disk compression before starting to use your machine. The data will be then get compressed by increments, rather than in a single session, which takes a lot of time.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

  • Example of reference for PCIe Data Streaming double 6537 s disc

    Hello world

I have successfully changed the example of reference for streaming ( http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5315 ) for the card PCIe-6537 UNIQUE and able to write to the clock speed of 20 M (at end of initial test) without any error.

However, I don't know how to view the *.bin file to check whether I wrote the right data. I saw an example VI called 'read the binary '. However, it is said "File already open" and gives a GPIB controller error (very odd). Should I try using MatLab? I doubt that this will help because it seems that the file write VI does not close the file correctly.

I have attached the updated UNIQUE PCIe-6537 source code and the file with this post error. There are file support as well for writing file window live

I'm the kind of new acquisition continuously and at high speed. Please let me know if I'm missing something. Thanks in advance.

    See you soon,.

    YK

I have a few links you can go to more resources continuous here and here.

The original question, you have posted using binary VI reading won't be able to because of the memory.  You can read more small segments of the file and keep the file intact.  There are a number entry that indicates the number of data items are returned by the function.  If you want to save multiple files, you can use any looping function to make it work, just set the condition to find out how much time and when to stop.  I don't know of a quick example that does this.  You read again all the data, but given that the readings are in small pieces, it will help the issue given that the data are not need a large space contiguous memory to reside in during playback.

Data compression would be more than a post processing step rather than a step continuously, and it can slow down your stream if you were writing at the same time after your reading.  In producer/consumer architecture, you could read in the data and compress it before the record in a file, which would not affect the performance of your reading, it forms the data and create a file that is smaller and takes less space in memory.

  • Deleting data blackBerry Z10

I'm looking to upgrade to the Z10. I was told that BB is not repress their data on the Z10. Is this true and why is it?

I think the term you're looking for is "compression" of data and not data "suppression."

Yes, it's true... new BB10 phones do not use data compression and Yes, it makes a BIG difference.  As you well pointed out, older BlackBerry devices use about one-third the data of other smartphones.  Why BlackBerry went with this new approach, I don't know but I'd love to hear from anyone who knows the official reason.

Is possible even for a replication task? My departure from replication across a slow link is a failure after 24 hours.

I recommend using mccli instead of watching log files directly.  You see the same information but are easier and faster to do.  The commands that I ran, it's to run is mccli activity show and get-activity log - id = mccli.  POS follow the remaining data.  Often its impossible because you can't tell the compression rate or total data supported until the task ends.

If your replication at one POS device to another you can watch the total disc be everyone to get an approximate amount of data compression, which remains to be replicated.

    According to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/partitioning/twp-data-compression-10gr2-0505-128172.pdf

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compressed tables or partitions can be changed like other Oracle tables or partitions. The data can be modified using INSERT, UPATE and REMOVE commands, for example. However, data, which are changed without the use of a loading mass insertion techniques or in bulk only will be not compressed. Deletion of compressed data is as fast as the removal of uncompressed data. Insert new data is as fast, because the data are not compressed in the classic case of insertion; It is compressed only do the bulk loading. Compressed data update may be a little slower in some cases.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In short, the newly inserted data will be compressed if it was loaded with parallel DML or with a direct load (APPEND hint).

Yes: Use the College or WAVE format

    dwhitcraft wrote:

Yes, 2 GB to AIFF. B: standard files are limited to 4 GB, but LPX then supports the RF64 WAVE format that allows for files > 4 GB (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF64)

You could bounce back to a .wav file or a CAF.

There is no difference: none use data compression.

  • Convert mp3 to AIFF

Can someone explain to me how it is possible to convert the mp3 data compressed aiff which is uncompressed and much higher quality sound.

AIFF has a bitrate of 1141 kbps compared to 256 kbps for mp3?

A 256 kb/s MP3 file is a "lossy" format  This means a sound quality has already been lost because of the compression process used to encode.  You cannot recover the loss of the quality of the sound by converting to the AIFF format.
