DataGuard on different OS?

Hi all

DB = 11.2.0.4

OEL6.5

Can I install/implementation dataguard on OEL5.3 to OEL6.5 and vice versa?

or

Can I install/implementation dataguard on RHEL5.3 to OEL6.5 and vice versa?

Sincere greetings,

Hello

May I take rhel 5.3 and oel 5.3 and the same OS?

Yes, you can consider.

I think you need to have the operating system architecture and platform on primary systems and intelligence even. I don't know about 10g. I would like to read the docs.

But in 11g, it is possible. (Heterogeneous Dataguard with different OS)

Means SID main and backup, why he isn't even?

Who said that main SID & standby must be different? You can use the same name.
But to appoint easy, used to keep the names as the day before, DR & so on.

    Db_name should be the same.
    DB_UNIQUE_NAME should be different.

  • Must Dataguard databases have different names?

The old manual method logshipping used for years is based on the same database names. All the dataguard literature I've read States that they must be different, but I have not found a case as to why. Can someone explain this?

    Thank you

    Jay

The name of the databases that you can see in the data base of v$ and DB_NAME in the spfile is always the same in the case of primary and physical standby.

Introduced in 10g was DB_UNIQUE_NAME, which should differ between database and relief, in order to make it clear what database Protocol redo transmission (no matter whether with LGWR or ARC) needs to be done.

It is then part of the parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 parameter, for example:
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 = "service = db_unique_name = physt physt'"

  • Small questions about Dataguard

    Hello

I have a few questions about Dataguard. I'm new to DG, carry me so for the display of these fundamental questions:

We plan to install Oracle 12 c to Win 2012 R2 with primary and physical intelligence on different physical servers. We are looking for HA solution, but cannot afford to license CARS. The two primary & Eve are going to be in the same data center connected via a 1 gigabit network. So I have a few questions related to it.

    (a) since both of our primary & Eve is going to be in the same data center with good connectivity. Can I assume that although Data guard is more DR solution, in our case it would be HA solution since we have no network latency.

    (b) is it safe to assume that where primary fails, then the day before can automatically take the role of primary education without any manual intervention, possibly using Dataguard broker?

    (c) so I understand that where primary breaks down, the existing connections transfer automatically from primary to standby db (most recent primary), but how my web based java application will know that more recent connections must be sent to the standby db Server (more recent primary)? I guess net Oracle has a provision to handle this? Who can be automated?

    (d) given that I have only 2 physical servers, can I deploy broker Dataguard on a normal PC (since it is a thin client) assuming the PC is kept in the data center and is online 24/7?

    (e) I was reading about the modes of Protection, account required to our current situation & infrastructure, I choose 'Maximum availability Mode' instead of 'maximum Performance '.

    (f) what is your point of view about Oracle integrated security? I hear too much on Oracle failsafe, because people generally go to a combination of CARS & dataguard for HA? We have a few additional storage that can be shared between the two servers, but I feel with literally no DG network latency can provide us HA.

    Concerning

    Learner

    (a) since both of our main & secondary is going to be in the same data center with good connectivity. Can I assume that although Data guard is more DR solution, in our case it would be HA solution since we have no network latency.

Well it will not provide the level of HA that is RAC. RAC is a Transparent Application failover. With a physical standby, you need to apply some delay for a failover operation. You can implement the observer that can automate the failover and reduce the time.

    (b) is it safe to assume that where primary fails, then the day before can automatically take the role of primary education without any manual intervention, possibly using Dataguard broker?

This isn't really the DG broker, but rather the observer you will need to implement. The DG broker automate failover. It will be the observer who "sees" (where its name) that the principal is down and initiate the failover process. To do this, the observer will use the DG broker, so it will be necessary.

You'll want to read on the QuickStart failover. http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/articles/smiley-fsfo-084973.html

    (d) given that I have only 2 physical servers, can I deploy broker Dataguard on a normal PC (since it is a thin client) assuming the PC is kept in the data center and is online 24/7?

The DG broker is required to run on the database server. The DG broker will run on the primary and standby. I think that what you're asking really anything is if the observer can run on a PC. Yes it can. However, it is probably not a good idea. A PC will not have the internal hardware redundancy, a server can have. If the PC can fail more often than to a server. And if the gods are bad, it will fail when you most need.

    (e) I was reading about the modes of Protection, account required to our current scenario & infrastructure, I choose 'Maximum availability Mode' instead of 'maximum Performance '.

Your choice should depend on the amount of data loss is acceptable.

    (f) what is your point of view about Oracle integrated security? I hear too much on Oracle failsafe, because people generally go to a combination of CARS & dataguard for HA? We have a few additional storage that can be shared between the two servers, but I feel with literally no DG network latency can provide us HA.

Oracle integrated security only works on Windows with a MS Failover Cluster. Real DBAs do not have Oracle on MSFC.

    See you soon,.

    What about

As I mentioned, again the DG transport and apply the will to work in mixed versions. But it is not supported by Oracle for longer period. When I say not supported which means lets say if you hit any bugs in mixed environment associated with DG, then you can't get a support to connect to a new bug... etc... However, mixed versions are supported bby Oralce for 30 days. This is because any time the migration/upgrade that you can keep primary and standby in different versions.

  • Upgrade of dataguard 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4

    Hello

We would like to upgrade 11.2.0.3 dataguard to 11.2.0.4, but there are differences in the 2 official documents:

    (a) less than document it says that major version upgrades are not eligible, and we must first convert logical physical standby standby for upgrade (standby logical transitional upgrade spread)

Data Guard standby and -first Patch applies (Doc ID 1265700.1()

    (b) below to document, it is said that we can stop primary and standby, apply the hotfix and then run catupgrade:

    (1) Please can you confirm that we can move from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4 the physical dataguard without converting to logic by using option b?

    (2) if we change the compatible parameter and we apply different versions of oracle, the newspaper working properly?

I found that note 2 to upgrade. The minimum time using rolling fashion "using standby logic" is more aggressive and you must ensure that your platform is compatible with the logical pending changes.

  • DataGuard and RMAN across Oracle versions

I was curious to know what restrictions we cross versions of Oracle using RMAN and DataGuard.  That is to say, can use DataGuard to ship newspapers a 11.2 a standby 12.1 primary?  We have to restore a database 11.2 12.1?

Support for the mixed Version, for a Data Guard physical standby is generally NOT supported.

Physical standby need primary and standby should be in the same version

You can restore database on 12.1 11.2 House, but must open the database with the option 'open resetlogs upgrade' as binary and db are in different version. We perform db upgrade after the opening of database

  • Ifiles DataGuard

    Hi all

    RHEL5

I'm configuration dataguard for ebs 11i with Doc 216212.1

In Section 3: physical Standby Ridge - point 2: configuration Oracle Net communications to and from the standby.

The task is to create a <CONTEXT_NAME>_ifile.ora .   and listener_ifile.ora.

These files are required?  I check from its parent listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files and I see that thay are just redundant?

Their content also exist in the parent file?

Please enlighten if I need these files.

    Thank you very much

    JC

    Hello

Because they are many DBA worldwide and with different standard environment maintained (custom) for them, so in order to solve the complexity (or instead of change/complicate things), they give flexibility as inputs plug-in and plug-out to file (with ifile as subset). So that they can add or just throw will be a comment in tnsnames.ora based switch above and switch back.

  • DataGuard with other software

    Hi all

    9i

    RHEL5

I configured dataguard physical standby in our primary database. We have therefore 3 database/servers of PROD, STBY, REPL, that is being configured.

Then 3rd is configured to "replication" from primary to a different database replication replace. is between PROD and REPL only.

The tool/software replication can the the following:

    1. materialized views

    2 advanced replication

    3. flow

    4. Golden Gate

    5 dbvisit

My question is, if I switch to STBY, what happens to my replication system?

  • DataGuard folder names

    Hi all

    9i

    RHEL5

    I am currently dataguard configuration.

I just copied all our production configuration to the backup target server so everything is identical with its folder names. Their init.ora is who is different.

The instance_name source is PROD, while the eve instance_name target is STBY.

My question is: is it OK to remember all the names of folders as is? for example, the folder

/ U01/oradata/prod where all dbf and control files are located, is it OK to keep such what? one does not change for/u01/oradata/STBY?

    Thank you all,

    JC

    Hello Jenna:

Controlfiles are defined by the parameter control_files in initSTBY.ora.

For the data files (and logs), if db_file_name_convert (log_file_name_convert) in initSTBY.ora. parameter is empty, then PROD and STBY directories must be the same on both computers.

    in the case of initSTBY.ora. you define db_file_name_convert = ' / u01/oradata/PROD ', ' / u01/oradata/STBY ", then all data files who prod/u01/oradata/PROD, in STBY machine are in/u01/oradata/STBY.

Don t forget to do the same in initPROD.ora, IE.

    db_file_name_convert = ' / u01/oradata/STBY ", ' / u01/oradata/PROD.

    and the same for log_file_name_convert.

    Kind regards.

Oracle Home locations and location data files is not going to matter, in the end check how the Data Guard.

In the case of performance measures and consider if your principal is in some 3 and 4 RAC nodes and your sleep is self-contained. If you want to test the single application whether or not? Yes, you can do that... the file location does not matter.
