Dead USB port

Salvation;

My iMac 27 "(mid 2011) has four USB ports, which appears to be dead." I have rebooted and have zapped the PRAM nothing helps. I have a reset considering the MSC but understand that this is not something to be taken lightly.

Other thoughts?

Chris

Nothing wrong with reset the SMC just follow the instructions carefully: reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

All of a sudden, the USB ports stop working.  They died from the moment you press the power button.   Front, back, is not serious.  Several mice and keyboards, no difference.   Without a PS/2 keyboard port, this means no keyboard, no access to the BIOS, nothing except to watch the loading of Windows.

Even if it s really painful to get everything installed it again, I would recommend to recover the laptop using the Toshiba recovery disc or HARD drive recovery.

    > Could I have really damaged the MB. ??
Well, it's hard to say before trying the recovery procedure.
If the USB ports are not working after using the recovery disk (or HDD recovery), then of course: the mobo may be affected, therefore, in my view, the laptop must be set to the factory settings.

  • USB Ports dead after undocking and anchor W510 in Minidock Plus series 3

    Hello

just a new W510 (Win XP 32) for a user customized and installed it on his desk. Everything worked fine except for one thing.

I start the NB in the Docking Station with an external keyboard and mouse (original IBM/Lenovo) attached.

    Works very well.

Then I disconnect the laptop (there is no button or menu entry for disconnection, it is enough to press the button to eject the NB).

    Laptop still works fine.

Now, I put the NB in the dock. External LCD display shows regular office but external keyboard and mouse no longer works. The mouse didn't even power (no lights).

I checked all USB ports--> dead.

If I plug the mouse or the keyboard to the usb port of the NB they get power, but do not work.

If I reboot the NB, all is well again.

Do I have to install a special plug-ins to allow equipment nd "reconnect"?

    Thank you

    Concerning

    Mith

just visited the user and checked the NB again.

Guess what happened? Disconnect and reconnect worked.

It is not that I did not wait long enough to install all the drivers for the last time.

  • Dead after reboot USB ports?

    Hi all

Today, I restarted my computer, and after that it starts in the login screen, I discovered that the USB ports are insensitive! They worked fine before the restart. Usb profits don't feed and are completely dead. I use Windows 7 x 64 Home Premium. Help please?

A solution will be greatly appreiciated.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I would be grateful if you could provide us with the following information:

    1. What were the last changes on the computer before ports USB worked well?
    2. The problem occurs with some USB devices or all?

USB port may stop responding, if there is a problem with the USB controllers installed on the computer. I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the USB controllers and check if it helps:

To uninstall and reinstall the USB controllers, follow these steps:

    1. click on Start, type Device Manager in the start search box and press ENTER.

    2. expand Bus USB controllers.

Note You need to scroll the list to find this point.

    3. right click on the first USB controller under Bus USB controllers and then click Uninstall to remove it.

    4. repeat the above steps for each controller USB is listed under Bus USB controllers.

5 restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically check for changes on the hardware and reinstall all USB controllers that you uninstalled.

    6. check the USB device to see if it works.

Hope this solves the problem. If the problem persists, you can write back to us and we will be happy to help you further.
  • USB port at the back of the printer is dead

The usb port on the back of my all-in-one officejet 6310 is no longer active - has no electric output. Is there no repair for this other than a dismantling and then fix it, if possible? This old dog is a printer faithful backup for a few years and it seems a pity it ship for scrap.

This printer has an Ethernet port. You can always use this port and connect wired or wireless.

  • HPE-210F dead USB 2.0 port AV - where to plug them in?

My newest HPE-210F has a USB 2.0 on the front, and he died. I opened the case, and of course, the connector it is not connected to the motherboard. I want to know where to plug the connector on the motherboard. I can attach a photo of the MB, if necessary, but I suspect it's an easy question. On a related note, there are three small openings in the metal cage where the USB port on the front is pressed. Are enough spots on the MB to plug in a few extra USB 2.0 ports? I wonder if HP sells ports ready to fit in the cage or if it is a standard of the industry and I could get them elsewhere?

    TIA!

Pick up and empty the USB socket and plug the connector.  This motherbaord is used for different configurations of the firm.  Pocket USB and media drive bays would also use the empty USB Sockets.

  • USB ports not working not not on Satellite Pro C650 - 18 d

    Hello
I have a Satellite Pro C650 - 18 d on which USB ports are dead.
So far, I've updated the chipset and BIOS - but they stay dead. It doesn't seem to be a power either. I have a USB key with LED and it does not light.

Any ideas? It's under warranty and so unable to try something wild!

    Thanks for any help
    Jim

    Hi Jim

I recommend you to reinstall the OS and test the feature with the factory settings. Please, test it with several different USB devices. If none of them works, you must contact the Toshiba service provider in your country and leave check s portable.

Do you know how to find the addresses and phone numbers?

  • Tecra 9000 USB port failure

    Hello Helpers,
My Tecra 9000 IGH with Windows XP model has two usb ports dead and taken from mouse. From what I've read, it's a defect with this model. The USB ports are on a separate module that is plugged into the main Board.

Is the fault on the set of the USB module or on the main Board or the fault lies in the power plug. Is the fault of the joints for example dry easily repairable, where a quick touch of a soldering iron can redo them. Does anyone have a circuit diagram which would make tracing easier fault.

I had partially circumvents the problem by using a USB card, but this often causes freezing the computer and my laptop hard drive will not work with it.

    Any help appreciated.
    Linlithgow your sunny.
    Derek

    Hello Derek

On this path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here, but I guess there is a contact problem. It is really not easy to say it's the problem motherboard or separate module itself. I think that it should be checked on professional way.

The second problem is the scheme of construction. As far as I know that is not a public document and you'll be lucky if anyone has it for you. I know that you will not be satisfied by my suggestion, but I think the best way is to communicate with the technicians and talk with them. Maybe there really small problem and can be cheaply repaired.

    Good luck!

Just got my new laptop and tried to install all my programs and move all my old files from my other laptop for two days.

I have two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 on this machine, and the USB port which is placed in the left side next to the power connector has stopped working.
It has the power it turns on Microsoft's USB mouse which has been connected since the first start, but it will not accept any communication at all.

I rebooted in safe mode, uninstalled all the USB controllers and restarted, advice, I found here in the forum, but the USB port remains dead.
Looks like this is a question with many Toshiba laptops and not even sure, I want it to be more I m.

  • Portege R830 cannot connect iPhone4S to USB port

    Hello world

I have 5 Portege R830-138 with Win7x64 nine completely updated with the latest drivers and patches.
Yesterday I connected my iPhone4S to the USB port on the right side and everything worked well (iTunes, tie, etc.).

Unfortunately, this (the one on the right side) USB port no longer works for today: iPhone, mouse usb pendrives... nothing, it seems to be dead. The USB port on the left side still works with mouse usb and memories but not with the iPhone.

I thought it was a problem of HW laptop on the right side USB port so I tried with a second Portege.
Same problem: plug the iPhone on the right side, USB port, the USB port is not working.

The same iPhone connected to my MacBook Air works fine.
I wouldn't try with a third Portege, do you have any ideas?

    Thank you
    Valerio

    Hello

The left USB port supports the standard USB 2.0 USB port on the right standard supports USB 3.0.

I don't know if the Apple software supports USB 3.0 m.
According to some information in the internet, USB 3.0 is not supported by Apple

  • Re: USB Ports do not work on my Satellite L830-145

    Hello
I have Toshiba Satellite L830-145 with Windows 8 and all USB ports do not work. Have updated the Intel BIOS drivers and uninstalled and so on tried a lot and still no luck
Maybe here someone will have an idea

When I start the computer power light before windows starts and goes dead when windows starts loading
On USB3 I can recharge the phone, but it won t recognize anything in windows
    Any help much appreciated.

According to specification for laptop, your laptop comes with Win8 64bits.
Using the original version of Windows preinstalled?

All that you have done is just, but if nothing is done, maybe you should try to reinstall original recovery feature by image and test with the factory settings.

  • Spectrum of HP 13-v013tu: USB port not working not not the spectrum 13

Hello.  I bought the HP 13-v013tu a few months ago spectrum and in general the laptop works very well.  However, I noticed that 3 C type USB ports in the back, one of them do not work.  The USB port for the electrical connection to the right is fine, but the two in the Middle, one of them work.  Who does not work does not recognize or even to send power what it is connected (for example, the mobile phone, the external hard drive, load wireless mouse).

I checked the Device Manager and see nothing wrong in the USB options.  Even the option of power management to allow the computer to turn off the device has been disabled.

Can anyone help? Is this a hardware problem?

    Thank you.

USB - C for USB 3 adapter supplied with the laptop you are using? If it works in 2 of the three ports, then the logical conclusion is that the third part is bad. You can actually power the laptop of one of the Thunderbolt-C/USB ports (I have one of these laptops) in order to try in the port which is giving you issues and if he does not have the power, then you have a dead port which will require the replacement of the motherboard.

  • alternative to the USB port?

I connected an external DVD writer to my USB hub and used the wrong diet and two USB ports have burned.  Since nothing I plug it via USB is recognized.

Assuming that it is really dead, and replacement is too expensive to be useful this 2009 macbook (unibody A1342).

is it possible to connect to a usb to Ethernet port or Port MiniDisplay port?

    Sorry for the Noob-style question

The answer is, no, I'm afraid. You will need a new motherboard to fix the problem. Visit iFixIt and see if you can buy a motherboard and replace yours, DIY.

  • Equium A60 - 692 USB Ports not working not

Hi all - new to the forum and what a good place to find info on Toshiba laptops. Anyway - after a recent storm, I lost connection to my ISP broadband - contacted the helpline who advised me to Exchange my ADSL modem to an Ethernet - made and corrected the connection problem - however - only after having it done I realize has none of my devices (printer, camera, Web Cam etc.) worked via the USB ports. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the system and drivers for devices without result. The device displays 500ma of power manager is available for each of the 3 ports but watch 0ma used. The Device Manager also shows that the USB ports are working properly. Can someone help or advise if these ports on a separate card or they are part of the motherboard. If Yes, where can I get a. Congratulations to all - Andy

A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.
