defective hard drive out of warranty

I want to install a new hard drive in my 4 years old Mac Mini. It is out of warranty. The hard drive has failed. Installation seems pretty easy, but once I have change the old hard drive with the new, how to restore the internet of the OS. I don't have a recovery disk.

Assuming that your model never came with a DVD of recovery:

Clean Install of El Capitan on a new disc

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime, press Command + Option + R until a globe appears.
  2. The Utility Menu appears in 5 to 20 minutes. Be patient.
  3. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
  4. When loading disk utility, select the drive (generally, the entry Out-bumpy) in the list aside.
  5. Click the Partition tab in the main window of disk utility. A panel will fall.
  6. Set the GUID partition scheme.
  7. Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).
  8. Click on the apply button, then click the fact when it is active.
  9. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
  10. Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

This should install it the version of Mac OS X that has been previously installed when the computer was new.

    Hello

Please can someone tell me if it is true that to use HP factory recovery disks, hardware must be exactly the same as when purchased.

After hours wasted trying to get the recovery disks to work, I find myself with the same "failed to retrieve @ screen and some unnecessary lines of code."

In reading the various posts, it seems that I have a replacement for HP HARD drive of the same type that came with the computer. If this is the case, then the links on the support pages should say this before I have pay £39 for a set of disks.

For me, a hard drive is a hard drive. I replaced a drive fried (1 month out of warranty expires) with a good brand replacement, but larger. Disks won't load.

However, I could load W7 form an iso file and get that to work. I need the recovery because I do not know how to configure raid which allows the QuickStart on this laptop, and I don't have the time or no further inclination to make it work.

Partly a rant, sorry, but I'm wrong, and is there a solution?

    Concerning

I have seen others with this problem. Unfortunately, the only working solution, I remember the top was where a guy removed the player cache Msata, ran recovery then reinstalled.

On a single charge of Win 7 I think you could install the Intel Quick Start software, then use it to activate the quick start. I have more a laptop Win 7 with Msata to test, but I remember the software could be opened from the icon beside the system clock and used to toggle the quick start.

  • EliteBook 8540p: HARD drive, out of warranty failure

Our laptop Elitebook 8540 P gives a terrible warning about the imminent demise of the hard drive.

    Failure ID is 90F953-5B67SD-XD7U3A - 60A 503

    Product ID is XT924UA #ABA

    Capacity is 320 GB

So, looks like it's time to replace the HARD drive. I saved the document, making a system image and a repair disk. My question is, how do I proceed from here?

It would also be nice to know why the warnings are produced. Operation seems normal.

    See you soon.

    Gerry6

The warning is a good thing - in a bad situation. The hard drive is under surveillance and warning is always a heads-up before he finally dies on you, so you can get a backup.

You can buy a Mobile SATA Hard Drive to install and then start with your repair disk to restore the Image of detail. Just be sure to get a capacity at least equal as the 320 GB or more.

  • Hard drive replacement and warranty question Portege and Tecra models

    Good afternoon

I'm hoping for a little clarity if a laptop warranty is invalidated if the hard drive is replaced for another title of model/difference. The company that I work buys models Tecra and Portege for these last years, if we decide to buy more large hard disks and get our IT Department install them will be that gap in the agreement of guarantee with Toshiba?

I talked to Toshiba and they were a little gray in their response. They said that, if you didn't damage the laptop, it should be fine, but if you send it as an unrelated question, with what they can carry out repairs on the laptop if the hard drive does not match the orgional one provided...

Can somone if this is the case? It seems ridiculous that you would not be able to replace the drive even if bought from an official and used dealer in a corporate environment.

    Kind regards

    Jonsey

As much as I know RAM and HDD upgrade do not negate the warranty. For many models of laptops, you can find instruction how to do this. It is described in the document of the user s manual or you can find short videos on Toshiba documents (knowledge base).

Even on this forum in the USER SELF REPLACEMENT section you will find instructions how to replace the hard drives.

What you can also do is to contact the nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and check what they say on this subject.

    Hey BHK6,

I found out what was wrong! It was so simple!

I just need to make the boot inherited from the bios, like that he started directly from the hard drive and does not need of any software pre installed HP to start.

  • Security of the data to hard drive replaced under warranty

My laptop is fixed by virtue of the extended due to a hard drive failure warranty. HP has no problem, replace the defective drive. However, I asked that they return the drive failed for me, because it contains personal data and I want to make sure it is properly destroyed. They refuse to send me the original drive, unless I have pay $290 for it. Otherwise they will simply ship the laptop to me not repaired.

I am very hurt to her comfortable while simply trust that the reader will be well destroyed. I hear too many stories on data personal discs playing in landfills or elsewhere. I don't know that it would happen to HP, but then I don't know it won't, either, and it is not a value of potential risk.

Does anyone know what HP is doing to "destroy" a hard drive? Alternatively, anyone has any advice on how to convince HP to return my hard drive of origin for no additional cost, as it should be without me having to jump through hoops?

I can assure you that all personal data is secure when HP parts for refurbished devices used. HP treats thousands of thousands of pieces per day. Unless your failed hard drive is labeled "TOP SECRET" noone will give him a second glance. It merely add to the line, dismantled and the parties go into hp quality tests where they create parts for refurbished devices. The trays are too sensitive for them to be swapped around without a clean room. They are destroyed. probably thrown in a dumpster somewhere. Once that any type of dust gets on the trays the discs are unreadable, even if they have been good before he was saying-assembled. It is not cost-efficiant to slow production just to get the trays on a hard drive in a clean room. It is easier to throw away them and have a machine to replace

It seems, for my model, that there is no drivers well think I find the drivers for the normal series of L70 - A

I hope toshiba can help me with this question...

Replacing the HARD drive does not affect the warranty.
Here all the details and instructions how to replace the HARD drive

    > I find the drivers for the normal series of L70 - those who are the same?
Did you find another Satellite L70-A-xxx model on the page of the Toshiba UE driver?
I imagine that you didn t.

You'll find drivers choose L70 - A short numbers and additional satellite as PSKNEE, PSKN2E, etc.
At the bottom of the unit, you will find a label providing different numbers.
There is also a number something like this: + PSKNEE-00D003BT +.
It's _Model_ part number and in this case to get the drivers, you need search satellites L70 - A PSKNEE.

Hope you know how to search the drivers now.

  • Sectors defective HARD drive on the Qosmio F60 series

    Hello

For about the last 6 months, I struggled to determine what was causing crashes repeated on slowdown on my Qosmio F60, which was aged under 2 months.

Unfortunately I am currently not in the country of purchase and don't have an international warranty. I had to reinstall the entire operating system and all the software used (think the or not!) more than 6 times.

Finally, I installed Norton Ghost 15.0 to be able to avoid reinstalling again and back up important data. When you use Norton Ghost I had to run chkdsk /r on the hard drive and now the real problem surfaced.

This machine had a hard drive which behaved as if it was very old. Continous bad sectors where being generated. Which means that I had to replace the so-called new hard drive.

What I want now is the specifications for the internal hard drive. for Qosmio F60 14 R machines. Because I don't have a domestic guarantees, I would rather replace the drive myself, than to hire a service charge.

    Hello
The new generation of mobile phones are supported SATA drives.
You can buy HARD drive 2.5 SATA.

By the way: the Drive Fitness Test Utility is quite nice freeware software that allows you to run diagnostic tests. You can use it to test the fitness of the HARD drive

  • Satellite U500 - where to get a new HARD drive during the warranty?

    Hello world

I bought my Toshiba Satellite U500 some months in London, and a few days ago my hard drive starts to give me a such difficulties that do not correctly read and given the weird sounds. And finally at boot up to yesterday, its giving me this message "Pri Master hard disk: extended S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and replace, press F1 for cont...» »

Now, I realized that I need a new HD and that one is not usable. What I was wondering, is it possible to keep in touch no matter what service provider Toshiba in order to get the new HD cos this machine is almost brand NEW.

Can someone give me an advice what to please, it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi Edward_4,

I agree with you. You need a new HARD drive as soon as possible because it s not recommendable to record data on a failed HARD drive.

In any case, it should t be a problem. You must contact an authorized service provider and explain the situation. Technicians can order a new HARD drive for you and Exchange. This should be free, because your laptop is under warranty so it s age of a few months.

On the Toshiba site is a list of all s ASP. This seems to be your interlocutor ;)

  • NB550D - replace the RAM or HARD drive without voiding warranty?

    Hello!

I noticed, that generally, Toshiba users replace their HARD drives and RAM memory without voiding the warranty.

But I'd be happy to get official confirmation if NB550D netbook.
Can I pass without problem, my material in this model?
If it is relevant, I'm of the Poland.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi dude

Since it is only a user to user forum you will get no official confirmation here
But you're right. The RAM and HDD Upgrade or replacement will not void the warranty.
These pieces are extensible, and as much as I know that is mentioned in the user manual.

  • defective hard drive-> process to set

I bought HP Desktop about 1 year and 10 months ago from Office Depot. The hard drive (Seagate) has failed. I never created a recovery from my old hard drive disk. I could use some clarification on the process of fixing of my count:

    1. I guess I just buy a new internal hard drive, install it and then install a Windows recovery disk. Is this correct?

    2. do I need to get a measure of HP recovery disc which is correlated with the details of my computer?

    3. is there a place where I can download a free recovery disk? (from HP or elsewhere). Can I use a recovery disk created using another computer?

    4. I used the tool warranty on Seagate.com and discovered that the guarantee rests with the OEM (Office Depot). Nobody knows what the typical guarantee is for most retailers for the OEM drives? I understand, you do not speak for Office Depot, but I'm looking for personal experiences of the people.

    You are the very welcome.

The only difference is that a recovery disk will restore your PC as it was when it came to HP with all the software and drivers installed.

It will also partition your hard drive and reinstall the recovery partition.

If you can live without any of these elements, so there no need you to order recovery disks.

  • Defective hard drive of IMPORTANT

I had a broken hard drive, and when I called technical support, I was told that they would send me a new, and I had to send my old one back so that they can see it's really broken.  I have data than the hard drive I need.  Why it can not be returned to me?

If it's really bad, then it will not do you much good.  You can or perhaps are not able to obtain all the data for that.  If they replace the drive under warranty, then you are allowed to the old drive.  If you buy a replacement drive, then you are.  In addition, if you buy a replacement drive, you can save some data from the old disk before sending it again.  Search for a utility like this CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

    or http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page

to move the data from the old drive.  You don't need operations other than CD or DVD and your hardware player and good course a place to put the data saved to the computer.  Once you get one of the mentioned CD done, the computer will boot from the CD and then you can try to get the data on the failed disk but no guarantee.

  • Effect of upgrading the hard drive on the warranty

I plan to spend another £ 150 to upgrade my warranty so that all repairs are done at home I'm going to have a problem with my Bluetooth and can not be without my laptop for a week or more.

But I am also considering upgrading my 350 GB HARD drive 1 TB - how will it affect my warranty?

Replace your HARD drive on this particular machine would not void your warranty. The answer to your question is here. http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60536_04.pdf. On page 110.

  • Swap hard drive out

I removed my hard drive from my pc in Australia. I brought with me in the USA and now I want to install it in another computer if I use software (dreamweaver, photoshop, outlook etc.) can I buy an existing PC, Exchange on hard drives and start using my hardrive with all available functions?

    Hello

    you will have problems that

    1. read the rules of licensing

If Vista is preinstalled on your computer, or you purchased an OEM/license disk, they are both classified as an OEM license and are not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer

    __________________________________________________________

    2. you will not be able to boot from it as the hard drive will have the old drivers of the motherboard still installed on it

and no you can not change them

If the retail license reinstall Vista on the new computer that you put you old HD in

Reinstall the programs, reload the data, etc.

    __________________________________________________________

    3. buy a new computer with a new operating system license if your present is not detail - reinstall programs: copy your data on

Reinstall the programs from the original media, CD, DVD, etc.

  • (Redirected) Alienware x 51-replace defective HARD drive help Pls...

OK, so my x 51 (R1) Blue I screened yesterday and I did my head in an attempt to resolve this... Finally I threw in the towel and decided to factory reset the Player - did not help.  Bought a new drive today and I tried to do a clean of win10 install-I don't have a recovery disk so I used my drive recovery my laptop (XPS-15) and now my office (x 51) think that this is a laptop... so when I go into settings it shows me the CPU in my laptop and my laptop windows product key... This isn't good.

In the BIOS it still shows X 51, but everything on the new HARD drive shows my laptop recovery info - I thought of widows would detect the info office and adjust - clearly that has not happened.  I tried to boot my windows 10 USB (supplied with my edit on win10 I bought..) and the PC says that it does not find the HARD drive (although I say it can boot from USB...)-when I use my XPS15 USB recovery that works very well.

    So long story short.

    1. how to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my X 51? even if the system came came with Win8.

    2. clean install to win 10 show the good stuff "Alienware" on my computer that was there before?

    3. using a Win10 USB does not work - it keeps giving me the error message that says "drive HARD internal not found to fix this problem, try reinstalling the drive. No bootable devices"- is when I have the win10 USB provided with a brand new version on Windows in USB? I don't get it... to clarify the USB ONLY it recognizes is the USB of recovery I did for my XPS15 - its as it only recognizes the other dell stuff only... very frustrating

    4. How can I get my drivers for the NIC for my X 51? My xps15 has no ethernet port port has therefore had no need for drivers - so I guess that the recovery has not installed the drivers ethernet either... Cannot access the internet atm

    5. any other help to get my x 51 work as if it were would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
