  But you're right. The RAM and HDD Upgrade or replacement will not void the warranty.

  Please can someone tell me if it is true that to use HP factory recovery disks, hardware must be exactly the same as when purchased.

  However, I could load W7 form an iso file and get that to work. I need the recovery because I do not know how to configure raid which allows the QuickStart on this laptop, and I don't have the time or no further inclination to make it work.

  I have seen others with this problem. Unfortunately, the only working solution, I remember the top was where a guy removed the player cache Msata, ran recovery then reinstalled.

  On a single charge of Win 7 I think you could install the Intel Quick Start software, then use it to activate the quick start. I have more a laptop Win 7 with Msata to test, but I remember the software could be opened from the icon beside the system clock and used to toggle the quick start.

  I can assure you that all personal data is secure when HP parts for refurbished devices used. HP treats thousands of thousands of pieces per day. Unless your failed hard drive is labeled "TOP SECRET" noone will give him a second glance. It merely add to the line, dismantled and the parties go into hp quality tests where they create parts for refurbished devices. The trays are too sensitive for them to be swapped around without a clean room. They are destroyed. probably thrown in a dumpster somewhere.   I plan to upgrade the hard drive in my z60m, a Seagate momentus 7200.4, essentially because it's in the final list of the firmware update I could find.

  I created the ISO disc for the verification of updates of the firmware of the HARD drive and checked my current drive, it works.

  I intend to install windows on the new drive using the restore discs, after which I will manually install the updates for all drivers and all the files that I use regularly.

  My question is when should I use the ISO HDD firmware update program. I'm not buying my IBM HARD drive and understand that the update of the firmware may not work, but at what point should I try. I thought to install the new hard drive and then run the firmware update software before you install the OS from the restore disks. Is this true or do I have to update the firmare HDD after that I installed the original image on the new hard drive?

  Welcome to the forum!

  Firmware update is really not so much a big deal, you can do it from a bootable CD before installing the operating system, or at any time after that you installed. It really won't do much difference anyway.

  Yes it will absolutely accept an SSD. There is no need to mess with the BIOS as the definition of only for storage controller's ahci. Could not set it to something else if you want. Windows 7 and above will simply TRIM and NCQ which is what you need for the optimization of the SSD. A lot of tutorials out there comes from another era, when it was harder to get a job of SSD. Here is the Service Manual:

  Pages 63-70 are the 'how' to remove the top cover and replace the hard drive with a 2.5-inch SSD SATA. I can recommend a Samsung 850 Evo as best consumer SSD, but many others is good and you can shop for an agreement.

  The trick to that prepared in advance how you reinstall Windows clean install from a Windows system image backup or clone. All are viable options, but have their own procedures and pitfalls. We can help with that.

  You misunderstand my role here. I do not work for HP and I'm not the order desk. I am a user final companions. The laptop has a program backup and restore installed where you can make the recovery discs or a USB key to reinstall the software factory on a new hard drive or SSD SSHD.

  You will have to find a SSHD and will make install. HP does not offer that service and I also do not, of course. It can affect your warranty. If you let us know your country of residence, we can find a good deal on the parts you want.

  Hard disks have "cache" memory but thats all and it cannot be upgraded. While the cache is important, that the amount of space on the hard drive is the main point of Director. If you run out of space hard drive then, Yes, you need to either buy a hard drive more "internal" or, if you only need additional space for the files etc, an external hard drive.   I think that HP has sent you a DVD with a key for this free upgrade a few years back. You must know where you keep now, otherwise you have to communicate with Misrosoft because it's a Microsoft product, and Microsoft's offer through agreements with other providers of material.
