You must only defrag the C: partition. The 'system', HP_Tools (if you have one) and recovery partitions are not defragged.

    Hello

The system partition should not be défragmentée - it contains startup and recovery environment Windows 7 files and will always show as fragmented which is perfectly normal.  Also it has no effect on the performance of your operating system.

On the problem of performance, try the following.

In the Menu start, open the all programs, open accessories, right-click on command prompt and select "run as Administrator".  In at the prompt, type the following command and press ENTER.

sfc/scannow                (Note that there is a space between sfc and /)

Let the entire process, then the output type and press ENTER.

Then, click on the Start Menu, click computer, left click Local disk C once to highlight, right-click on Local C drive and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click on the button "check the drive for errors.  In the next window make sure that both boxes are checked, then click Start.  Right plan the audit on the next reboot of the system, and then restart the laptop - this process can take several hours before the load in Windows.

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded

For drivers, visit Maker as replacements and system manufacturer of device which are
the most recent. Control Panel - write - graphics card - device manager
the brand and complete model of your video card - double click - tab of the driver-
Note the version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this can do nothing
MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard
If there are 3rd party with their own software and drivers and the other main device drivers
    you have.

Now, go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restore)
and site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get the manufacturer and device
their latest versions. (Look for the system to update the BIOS, Chipset and software updates
    Site of the manufacturer here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN -.
    REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you are
installation actually appears. This is because that some rollback of drivers before the
later is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a driver - reboot.
Make sure that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW to the device makers DO NOT RUN THEIR
SCANNER - check manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using
the above methods is preferable to ensure the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system
    and device manufacturers are located)

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable driver facilities

  • Compaq: Defragment system

Defragmentation of disks are performed every week as planned, but the system (now fragmented 12%) woundn can't defragment.

When I pointed out the 'system' and click on defragment, progress stops approximately 1.7% or more.

The message says that it must be defragmented when more than 10% are fragmented.  Thank you.

    Hello

I would not run every week, he's going to kill your fastest HARD drive. Once a month or every two months are good enough.

    Kind regards.

  • How can I defragment System Volume Information. Defrag says it contains 3600 fragments using 250 MB of space and this is certainly a large strip of red on my band of defragmentation.

The question telling this. I just want to remove the 3600 fragments as I suppose it has much effect on the performance of my PC

Unfortunately, there is no way you are going to see any result, since Defraggler destroyed any possibility of actually seeing the results of normal operation.

  • Last updated for XP window Cause my system to a slower start

My system has been configured for automatic update my Win XP Pro sp3, and there was an update from July 8 to 11 with 8 updates.   After the system update, I noticed that my system has taken a lot longer to boot from a boot cold.

I restored my system just before the update and it starts a lot faster.   I've always had my automatic update on the system found the update, and I tried again a few days later and it always starts very slow.

I just turn off my automatic update, so I would get this update.   I thought I'd go back just before the update.

    Can someone help me please.

    Thank you

    G

I think he just needs to get this update to a better place hard, I don't know if Windows XP automatically defragments system files

Slow loads are often caused by fragmentation as a file is allocated on the disk so eye of disk drive would need of more time to read the entire file
It will be great if you expect that windows defragments it or defragment yourself with the disk defragment inside windows or with a 3rd party software (preferably one with a boot defrag option, so it can defragment system files)

I have a desktop Gateway with Vista Home OS. It ran fine until 3 weeks when I started getting blue screens & system closed and then restarted. This seems to happen when the line & open a second search window. I tried to restore, but it fails on all restore points, I've tried to the 14/09/2010. • When I program to defragment it isn't saving, therefore I do not have degragmenting regularly.

I plan to defragment once a week, but it does not work. Why he won't save the calendar, I put in for it?

The screen to defragment have the box checked to activate scheduled defragmentation and you say inside that scheduled disk defragmentation is Enalbled with a green icon beside it?  If the box is not checked, then check it in.  If it does not say that it is turned on, and then something does not just with the Scheduler - although I'm not sure of that.  It's probably a corrupted system file which is thankfullly only affects this feature as much as we can say.

Here is a standard procedure for scheduleing Defragmenter to run (which I assume that you have already tried, but understand just in case you missed a step and you do it right): http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72832-disk-defragmenter.html.

Here's another way to program using Task Scheduler.  It will be quite a bit more difficult to do as noted above, but if the process above does not work you can always accomplish the programming using this procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/132903-task-scheduler-create-task.html.  You will need to know the location of the executable file defragmentation, but you can get it that by right click on the shortcut to defragment System Tools folder in all programs from the start menu and check the properties of the location target folder.  Although it is much more complicated, if you follow the steps - one by one carefully, I'm sure you can create the task and achieve your goal.  It does not solve the problem with why defrag scheduler does not work well, but it gets your system defragmented on a fixed schedule that is the real goal.

I hope this helps.  Post back if you have any questions or if even that doesn't work (which I am confident it will be).  After the return in any case to let us know what happened.

    Good luck.

  • Registry Defrag no longer works

I don't know if it is a virus, but at the time I built my rig, in July, six months ago registry defrag System Mechanic would work. The countdown was going to happen, then he'd do his thing and I would like to use my computer. Then, what is going to happen, a month ago it started, is Sys Mech registry defrag to start the countdown during start, it starts, then it would just go to the login screen. I thought that Sys Mech was the problem, and I took it. I lived without a cleanup for a little utility, and then I was the Glary Utilities free version. I ran everything, and I saw the registry defragmentation. I wanted to see if it would work, and, like Sys Mech, said that a restart is required. When I did, it does the same thing. However, Glary had a countdown of abandonment. He just went in front, and then in a split second he just jump to the login screen. Glary did make a popup after the connection, saying that this was Defrag, but scared me, he can do the same thing as Sys Mech, with the running registry defragmentation and jumping at every boot, so I just uninstalled. I'm reinstall Sys Mech and I won't just defragmenting, but nobody knows why this could happen? I use Windows 7 and I have AVG Full edition as my antivirus. Thanks for any help!

    Two things...
1} your registry database didn't need Defrag.
2} your question would be with the manufacturer of software - not Microsoft/Windows.

  • Disk Defrag has changed in windows 8?

You cannot specify a date and time to schedule your computer to defragment more! I tried to set up my fathers to do this, it's not great with computers, but even if it is said that you can change the schedule weekly, daily and monthly I don't think that really made him the defragmentation. He said he had never been executed, and he had for months.

On the old system, you can set a date and a time and then he would go next. But now, for some reason, they changed it and it doesn't seem to do automatically either.

I tried to look in a book online and windows 8, but he says just what I already know.

How will I know when it is defraging system? It does not say when he does.

    Thank you

    Hello

Defragmentation is done automatically once a week. Yet once a week a lot. Almost nobody needs to do it more often.

84% is already used by the system, so it takes more time to start other applications.

  • Should I upgrade vista to access aero to fix excessive paging?

I'm trying to access aero to help diagnose and resolve excessive paging in my windows vista home basic sp2, 512, 32 with MS security essentials and its 'optional' good definition updates everloading (3 8 only).

I uninstalled and disabled (some with revo pro) everything I have dared and am down to one, start microsoft.  always opens the processes running with nothing but msgconfig of large areas such as errors, warnings, and chess.  I think I uploaded through the updates way more ms programs services processes applications reports potatoes log files, no appelets, oranges and bananas... I might need to check my email, manage finances, print my taxes and play games online.

I endured many browser and disk cleans, defrags, system restores, 2 rounds of Mr. fix his and several ms Answer command Office scanning and Advanced PC Tune Up.

I use also more thousand MB I think with ready boost to a 8 GB flash drive.

I realize disk space, memory, ram... is the question.  It seems that everything I do to earn a little, a fix, fixer, the update or restore resumes.  level 2 support ms think I have enough to do the little that I need, currently c: 102 gb, 72% free; d: 889 MB, 13% free.  now, I'm waiting for management to send me a new disk of vista to attempt a repair.  I'm very leary of this fix, however I wonder if it will launch a new series of adjustments udates, settings and calendar, the problems and worsening the performance...

the reliability and the performance of the last scan warning of excessive paging and memory diagnosis launched me to try aero.  of course I couldn't find it and I think I meet the other requirements, so I clicked on mr fixit new (no self, let me pics).  Naturally the aero effects are not taken in charge and asks me if I want to upgade this edition of Windows?

    Finally my questions?

is Mr difficulty it asking me to upgrade to windows 7 (half my support research lead me here)?

    There will be a tax?

If there are a bunch more things I don't use with another 1000 updated download and this what should I do for my space?

what the aero feature?  will it be worth?

He reduced to nothingness the need where correction of upcoming vista disk capacity?

how much more new stuff will learn?

should I forget about it and explore superfetch?

or do I just have to decrease the available virtual memory.  currently set at 1088 MB showing 753 MB recommended?

and while I am, how can I ask microsoft microsoft Security Center to recognize and to make the operating system of microsoft I have microsoft security essentials antivirus software?

Aero isn't for graphics memory, and you need the graphics hardware installed to use Aero.

With your card, you have a very low-end computer.

Your problem is that you have to little RAM (memory) sp2, 512, 32 with MS security essentials

Until correct you this, you will always have problems.

    Hello

Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.

    1. to reinstall Vista from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.

You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.

    HP is F11.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

Also ask them how to make records.

    Here's how HP it:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?DocName=c00809678&LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&product=18703#WhenCreate

Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, System Restore etc.

There are backups on an external hard drive.

To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

  • DC7700 - stops and restarts, no beeps

My dc7700 sff has been close and restart (no beeps) without any warning.  The appearance is random, but normally it happens while I'm editing a photo with PhotoFiltre, Photoscape or Irfanview.

I ran CCleaner Advanced SystemCare, JV16, JK Defrag, system, all to nothing File Checker does not.  In the case of the File Checker system, my dvd is not recognized as a Windows XP w/SP3 even if I integrated a new dvd with the HP disc and included in SP3.  I removed SP3 and reinstalled... it does not solve the problem either.

Next step is to reinstall a clean place, but I want to make sure that I didn't miss something before going through this evolution.

All information, ideas, options, etc. would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Check the log of the event viewer for critical errors.

    Try this procedure:

Disconnect the PC and open it. Clean all the dust. Carefully, remove and replace all the cables towards the mother board one at a time. Do the same for memory DIMM and the video and the sound of cards if you have a.  You can buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the heatsink from the CPU.  Plug your PC back in and give it a go.

  • Performance of computer problem

    Hi all

Last month, I found a problem with my laptop. I have a Sony Viao VPCEJ running on Windows 7, Intel Corei5 2.40 GHz.

The question that began to occur more frequently is when I'm videos buffer on the internet or listen to the audio on the internet, either live or recorded after 30 seconds or so of the listening/veiwing my computer media will start to seem his hard face... it will start to freeze and buzzing consistent in tone with the audio and then catch up but this way continues which makes the whole frustrating issue. in some cases, I'm having a problem of crash report where I have to reload the page and it will work normally again for a short period of time until the process begins again. There is no update for adobe flash player 11.8 r800 which I a little printing is where this problem arises from reading the forums and I even completely deleted all the adobe and reinstalled to see if that would solve the problem which he did for nearly 24 hours until I noticed the issue once again.

I also have this problem when you listen just my itunes on my laptop after a while...

I have Norton Anti Virus and made complete and defragmented system checks, etc. using all available options to maintain the performance of my system and no viruses have been detected.

It has gotten to the point where I have tried everything I can think off power and can only ask for all your advisor to help me solve this problem! I appreciate the help.

My apologies if I missed any operating system information that you might need to know that I'm not sure how else to find information without assistance. If the above, you believe that this cannot be a problem with flash/shockwave or adobe then please advise :)

    Thank you

    Hello Yaqub K,.

I was already running on Firefox and connected to my wireless router.

I tried to see if the problem has continued on Internet Explorer, which he did when viewing media.

I also tried to load in safe mode on and watch media on internet but in safe mode sound/volume is disabled since it was impossible to see if the show and the GAL/skip took place only in safe mode.

Oddly enough I always update my system when I get notification next to my bar of the time and date at the bottom of my screen from Windows Update. I did check to make sure that everything was to date a week before your answer when the problem occurred and he said everything was up to date. However one day after you sent your message to me here, I received a Windows Update notification that there are 6 available updates I performed. I dare say, but since then I have not received all previous media watch an issues and physical memory on Windows Task Manager never descended below 1200 MB. I've noticed that the media always look a problem falls to about 300 MB of free space when the media is lagging and jumps. Why he does this, I don't know.

But it seems that somehow maybe one of Windows Update has hopefully stopped my problem does not happen.

Thanks to all who offered their support and I hope that the question does not return!
