  Hi all

  In September 2015, I bought a 6 TB WD MyBook to use with Time Machine. Initially, I have me back an Early 2011 MacBook Pro 13 "and now it's an iMac late 2015 5 K. On both machines, the drive is connected directly to the USB port (without hubs was between the disc and the Mac). After about a week or two, I received a message "unable to full backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder".» I clicked on OK, rebooted the MacBook and she continued to save. This message pops up every week or two weeks, and I ignored him. When I got to the iMac, the message still popped up after a few weeks, and he even got to the point where it would show every day when I woke up to the iMac to sleep after a day at the College. It worked without any problem. In addition, back up my MacBook Pro via FireWire 2011 worked well for 4 years. Given that the MacBook Pro saved without fault when the drive is connected via FireWire, and problems have emerged only when I started to use a USB drive, I start to think that it is a problem of USB. I turned it off put hard drives to sleep when possibleand have active Power Nap and still get the error.

  Having had a HARD drive failure and have replaced I have now bought a WD 3 to WD My Book for Mac. Plug and put in place to save. However will not achieve, and gives this error message

  Seems like you always have space reserved for your backup. One of the fixes that worked for me was to start backup until it becomes larger, then removes it again.

  Once you get the drive installed, simply use xcopy or Robocopy to copy the files, with a fairly large music 8000 drop these command-line utility will be faster than to try to copy them through the Windows Explorer GUI.  Xcopy is integrated with Windows XP, Robocopy is available for download from Microsoft.

  I tried to get windows updates, but that did not fix it. I also tried to install SP2 (currently SP1) but it wouldn't install.

  Welcome on the Support forums.

  To change the location of the backup file, you should first be connected to the Link.  Then select 'Préférences' at the top right.  In the "Général" tab, you should see the option to change the folder backup at the bottom of the list. Click the file folder icon and you will be prompted to navigate to where you want to backup to be saved.

  

• Files in the backup folder do not appear the same on XP vs Win7

  I use a program called second copy to back up the "My Documents" folder on a portable usb WD drive. The backup folder contains 129 objects. However, when I tried to locate a file in this folder using my Win7 laptop and the same USB, Explorer listed only 29 of these files. I took the training to the XP machine, and everything was normal.

  Second copy tech said that they have never heard of this and also that their program uses all exclusive compression in creating backups. If this isn't a problem of Second Coy, then I think the differences in operating systems. It worries me because the primary drive on the XP machine is old enough, then it would be fine if I could restore the files, if necessary, for Win7 machine too.

  For what it's worth:

  • The backup of file 'My Documents' is located in a hard drive other than c. partiion.
  • As far as I know, all were leaving them on this disc are NTFS, but I can't swear to that before a Court of law.
  • I'm new to Win7

  Can someone me unbaffle on this? It will keep me awake at night.

  The main issue, you hit the nail on the head. Before that I sent the question I thought to the hidden file attribute, but told myself, 'no. "There is no reason that the bit be set for these files and not others ', not to mention that I thought I had already checked the show hidden files box a long time ago. So I have not yet looked. • Location of the backup folder View Manager - greyed out

  Try to change the location of the backup folder (View/view/servers/Edit Connection Configuration servers.  When I click on the tab back up, the location of the folder is grayed.  It is currently backup fine in C:\ProgramData\VMWare\VDM\backups, so there is no problem of backup.  I can't just change the path to what it's backup.  Do I have to stop a service to change the path?

  You cannot change this location by the Administrator display. Here it is read-only.

  Personally I think this is the best practice. I quite often use notes when you build a Web site is a very useful tool.

  The _notes are only used by Dreamweaver internally, but not by your site, so if you are working with Dreamweaver keep notes locally but just don't upload to the server.

  I have an external hard drive with backup TM to a second computer I want to free up space on deleting all backup sets. I understand that simply by moving the folder to the trash and empty it is not the recommended method. So, should I enter TM with the drive connected, navigate to the drive that has the backup sets, and right click on the folder that contains these and click on 'delete all backups? They take about 500 GB. No idea how long it will take to remove them? (I tried this method a moment ago, the computer has become impossible to use, and finally I was able to cancel the process. "If it takes hours I'll try tonight.)

  If backups TM are the only items on the disk, you can just reformat.

  I had a problem with my laptop HDD (bad sectors) and I had to format it.
  Before formatting it, I saved the profile folder in my external HARD drive.
  I tried to restore the profile but it does not work. It only contains the folder "Cache" (12 MB), "mozilla-media-cache" folder (0 KB), folder "OfflineCache" (11KO), folder "startupCache" (1.06 MB), folder "thumbnails" (50 KB), urlclassifier3.sqlite and urlclassifier.pset
  I can't find cookies.sqlite, formhistory.sqlite, etc..
  Is it possible to restore all of the folder "cache" or in any other way? My hard drive now low level formatting, in order to restore the old data is impossible.

  Unfortunately, this isn't your profile folder. You saved % LocalAppData%\... but instead, you must have backed up % AppData%\...

  • Profiles - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

  Disk cache contains files of web site such as pages, images, and scripts. It is practically useless for the purposes of restoring a backup.

  I highly recommend to keep good backups of your data somewhere other than the player in question. Bad sectors are not a good sign and may indicate larger problems to come.

  Hi, can someone please tell me how I can delete the folder ilifeassetmanagement to my mac? Everything I found says that it is linked to the photo stream, however my photo stream is not and has never been enabled on my computer. However when I try to delete the file and empty the trash he immediately returned to its original location on my computer. Is wasting 8 GB of space on my computer that already has space problems, and it's ridiculously irritating that Apple has added data on my mac I have to not request, consent to or want to without my knowledge!

  The iLife applications are who need this folder "~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement / '.

  It is not only used for my photo stream.  If you do not use 'My Photo Stream' or 'Shared Albums', for example Family Album sharing, you can try to remove the ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets subfolder.

  It will work normally, because this 'active' subfolder is used only by the MyPhotoStream and shared albums.
