Deleting a file that causes a buffer overrun

I downloaded a video file that gives me a buffer overrun. I can not remove this file to the trash or shread as these options stop working when I try to use them to make the tour of this file. I would appreciate your suggentions know how I can get this file on my PC. I use a Vista operating system.

Thank you

It may be too big for the Recycle Bin.  Try to use SHIFT-DELETE to delete it and see if it works (this bypassses the trash).

Try to use one of the following free products to remove the file/folder.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin (works only on files, not folders), http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • I can't delete some files that I uploaded to the server. What should I do?

I can't delete some files that I uploaded to the server. I get a notice: FTP an error occurred - cannot delete the PDF download server folder. Operation failed. The directory is not empty, or there may be a permission problem.

    What should I do?

Try to delete the files in your folder first.

If there is a permissions problem on the server that you cannot delete files, you need to contact your Site Administrator (if you have one) or your Web hosting provider.

  • How to remove a file that causes the folder that it is in gel

The file is downloaded demo, game of Eleusis, in the My Documents folder. A touch on the folder or file inside causes computer freeze, requiring the use of the Task Manager to escape. Then it is still a minute or two until the pc is still usable. On occasion, he needs even pulling the plug to shut down the pc.

I tried to remove the My Documents folder, but Windows will not allow that.

    Help please.

I don't have to assume that the program the file belongs to is listed in the control panel. Add/Remove programs.

The only suggestion I have is to start in safe mode and see if you can remove it.

  • Can someone tell me what I should type in the screen command prompt to access the setupapi log so I can delete the files that stops me reinstall windows xp?

My dell PC crashed then I followed the news online & tried to reinstall windows XP from my original CD. However, the keyboard & mouse stop working when the installation gets to the 33 minute section which requires me to a box on the screen. I saw tips online who says lets you check the setupapi log & delete the file question (s) that prevents the installation but it required that use you SHIFT & F10 to enter the command prompt screen, but my keyboard is isolated at this time. So I went in the recovery console (I think it's the command prompt)?  but I don't know which of the listed commands to use to perform the advice. I would be very grateful for help.

    Thank you

Repair installs being problematic, I would not waste any more time at this stage. You are ready to perform a clean installation?

  • OK to delete the files that are: C:/Documents and Settings/rjhirsch (me) / Local Settings/Application Data / identities / {31391EF3-B3AC-4F12-94D8-DC2DA45E9526} / Microsoft/Outlook Express

    Good afternoon:

Have recently been spotted by Windows XP Pro disk space on my C drive is low.  I reinstalled all the obvious large files (e.g., photos) on an external hard drive.  I have drilled down into individual files on the C drive to ensure other potential consumers of space. Found the folder that can be the source.

Last year, I converted from Outlook Express (OE) for Outlook.  At this point, I rode on my e-mail and the e-mail folders in Outlook.

I found a file in the following location that seems to contain the OE files.  I would like to know if the removal of these files of OE (~8.5 GB) impact my Outlook folder/mail e-mail before I remove them.

    The location is: C:/Documents and Settings/rjhirsch (me) / Local Settings/Application Data / identities / {31391EF3-B3AC-4F12-94D8-DC2DA45E9526} / Microsoft/Outlook Express.

The folder contains about 8.5 GB of e-mail to OE folders more of them are dated July/August 2010.

It is safe to assume that when I converted originally these OE e-mail/folders over to Outlook - that Outlook has caught up - and it's OK to delete these files?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers.

    Rick

If you do not use OE, then Yes. It will not affect Outlook at all. Open the database messages OE, the folder that you have described, and remove all the dbx files. If you need OE once again, when you open OE, it creates new files dbx for all default folders such as Inbox, sent, etc. items.

  • How can I delete backup files that are infected

I got my computer which runs Vista, off bugged by the Geek squad. In their note they suggested deleting the old back of the files that are infected. How can I do this?

You will find the location of the back up and once you find them you can delete them.

You could run full system scan with:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

It will scan your entire PC and detect infections.

  • I deleted a file that contains the entire set up of the files. Now my phone will not work. Help, please.

    Original title: re - install

Hi, can anyone help? I use Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba laptop.

Recently, I deleted a file from D: drive (which has a system set up files etc.). I received a message that "Auto back up had no" and I tried System Restore etc, but nothing worked. I then ran Chkdsk and this allowed Auto back up to go back to my external HARD drive. After Auto save, I checked the drives and horrors, D: drive was full and in the RED.

I tried the F8 recovery console, but when I tried "Recovery system" (which keeps intact all my files and settings), I was informed that there were "no back ups on the computer '." I tried to use back ups of my external HARD drive, but nothing, still got the same message. In the same Message window, it asked me to insert an of my previously recovery disks. I tried two discs, but got the same message as before.

My computer works always, but with a drive D: saturated, but if I do a full re-install, the computer back to its original state, I have to make copies of all my data (info from year 8) backup, or that I can then re - install the files on my external HARD drive?

  • How can I delete a file that my SBS 2011 server thinks is used by another process?

We are moving the files from one disk to a larger drive.  I was able to move all the files in a directory (is there a lot), except a single file.  Our server thinks that this file is used by another process.  It is not.  I tried to use the cmd prompt to delete the file, but that did not work.  I tried theRmDir /S /Q, I tried the old del (name of file) I continue to get the message this file is in use by another process.  I have changed all of the security on this file, I unchecked the boxes for archiving.  Nothing works.

    Any advice?

    Thank you.

    Hey diannel83710773,

Could you please specify where exactly your file is saved.

If your file is stored in the cloud or acrobat.com, you can simply login to "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials and then delete the file on the files tab.

Hope that helps. Let me know.
