Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge in front of the Welcome screen to Windows using Vista Home Basic Edition
I just restored back to factory settings and it was working fine until I loaded Windows live messenger, Microsoft Security Essentials and Sony Picture Utility. After that he stopped begin again, so it can be used only in safe mode. I downloaded all the drivers and updates available on the dell site. Any suggestions welcome please!
If you did a restore to the factory settings and you still have problems, there may be another problem that caused the problem in the 1st place.
Uninstall programs > reload one at a time > find the problem.
And look to see if a trial anti-virus came with the Dell recovery process.
You must have AN antivirus installed; otherwise it may CRASH.
For Startup Repair Help, make a record of Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

Vista Home Basic Edition does install in a dell inspiron 1440.
I bought a laptop that did not come with an operating system because I happened to have a Vista Home Basic installation disc that came with my previous laptop. so I tried to install the operating system, but after that the display shows "windows is loading files...". "this message appears:
Windows has encountered an error... file cannot be found or corrupted.
file: windows/system32/boot/winload.exe
error code: 0-xC0000001
What does that mean? I tried twice to reinsert the disc and redo everything but shows same message. is there something wrong with the installation disc? Should what I do to fix this? Thank youi so much.
Recovery of the computer disks are often related to the hardware of the computer that they came with.
Also, you have rules of licensing:
If Vista is preinstalled on your other laptop, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.
The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptopSee you soon.

Dell Inspiron 1501 on Windows 8 resolution problems
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and recently installed windows 8 pro on it. Before installing, I had a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 under vista and now my only option of resolution is 1024 x 768. I do a lot of photo editing and such on my laptop and the screen resolution that makes it nearly impossible when scaling and resizing of images. I tried the update of drivers and have even installed the old driver for my graphics card as well as you try to run the Catalyst Control Center, the compatibility mode, and nothing has worked. It is said that the chain of the card I use now is the graphics card of Microsoft. I was wondering if it is possible to get my resolution up to 1280 x 800.
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150.

Dell Inspiron 1501 wireless light is not on and I can't get a wireless connection. I was told that I needed to press the Fn key and F2 but it doesn't change anything
Catherine,
To press Fn and F2, you must have installed Dell QuickSet.
Places to look to see if your connection is activated
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system, have you installed the desktop system software / laptop (as appropriate) and drivers from the chipset first? If this is not the case, the rest of the drivers will not install. How to download and install drivers in the correct order
Start with the computer system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.
Go to the drivers & downloads , enter your service tag, and then select your operating system. Under applications, you can find Dell QuickSet.

I have a computer laptop inspiron 1501 and it came with Vista Home Basic. I like better XP and wondering if I have an installation on my computer, I have an XP installation disc. If I can, how to do it all?
Hello
You will be able to install Windows Xp on your computer, but you will need to perform a clean installation.
Before installing Windows XP. And also, you will have to take up the data in your computer, because the new facility will remove all data into the computer.
Download the driver from the support of dell at the following link:
I would also like to inform you that there is now the operating system disks or support is available for Windows XP.
For reference, see the following Microsoft.

My Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop can only support 2.4 Ghz.
Is it possible to upgrade the hardware so I can support 5 GHz or with a computer laptop, can't I?
P.S. referring to a Wi - Fi connection
If it is possible any ideas where I can buy a Wireless N card for my Dell Inspiron 1501 for a person living in the United Kingdom?
Hello
As far as I know, this laptop has only 1 antenna. And so there is no need to upgrade most other than the original 802.11 g.
In additional, there are small speed increase even if for some new laptops using 802.11n. 1501 is 5 years old.
Better to save the money for a new system in the future.
Thank you
