Dell Poweredge 850

Good so I had to deal with a perc 4/SC for a day or two to find that it is not compatible with 2008 r2.

I need to upgrade 4e/DC I think. Is their any conflict of hardware I need to know?

Is their a process for the replacement of a raid controller I need to know? Where is the best place to buy a 4th/DC?

so I understand this system is old and replace the system would be easier but I was handed the project to get this upgrade and I do not disaapoint.

any information that you consider, I got useful would be appreciated.

No, the two controllers are fully supported in the 850. I updated the firmware of the system before installation if (BIOS and ESM first, then another firmware or system).

  • ESX 3.5 u4 RAID 1 on PowerEdge 850

    Hi all

I have a small question, I used to have an ESX Server 3.5 to u4 mode RAID 0 on a Dell PowerEdge 850. Finally, the system crashed, the RAID array will be more found.

I decided to re - install ESX 3.5 u4 but with RAID 1 instead. During the installation process and after the installation are finished, I heard a plaintive high-pitch noise when the array is initialize, now it does not when I put the RAID 0 configuration and install ESX. I also tried with ESXi 3.5 u4 but get the same results with RAID 1.

I checked on the VMWare Web site, with the compatibility tool and the PowerEdge 850 is not listed in the compatible Dell servers to ESX 3.5 u4, but as I have explained before use to run ESX on this same PowerEdge without problems.

I am trying to pin-point the source of the problem and I would like to know if any of you correctly installed ESXi or ESX on a PowerEdge 850 with RAID 1?

BTW, I ran tons of diagnosis on the system, and the HARD drive and all the components are healthy. That's why I wonder if the problem is not with the software and hardware.

    Thanks to you all!

    Any input is appreciated

    Hello

I also had these problems with ESXi 3.5 u4 - but only if I installed immediately after creating the RAID1 array. The high pitched noise is the "RAID degraded" alarm on the CERC SATA 1.5/6 controller that comes with this system. My solution was to allow the RAID to build entirely during the night before installing u4, which allowed me to install, and I've been running for a month now without any problems. From one day to the next, I say only because they were 500 GB disks and took some time to build completely.

Furthermore, I have now decided to return to u3 u4 disables many management utilities I was going to use (using the "unsupported" and RCLI). After the RAID reset, I tried to install u3 immediately (during the process of RECONSTRUCTION/VERIFY) and managed without a building during the night.

A warning on the u4: even if he can be downloaded version of Dell (with the CIMs Dell preinstalled for use with OpenManage), the CIMs are missing the most critical readings on the State of the RAID. The other hardware monitoring is pretty irrelevant compared to know when your RAID array is degraded and must be repaired.

If anyone has solutions to get the controller CERC report thorugh either OpenMaanage or SNMP so please point me in the right direction.

    Good luck.

Hi guys, I am trying to install a new card Lacie esata PCI card (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=11217) on windows server 2003 on Dell poweredge T410. Windows detects the card and install the driver, but then, it shows an error code 10 "device Can not not started. I tried the update, uninstall, reinstall, adding Lacie driver CD through the "Hardware Wizard', chaning PCI card slot by 4 to 1. But nothing has worked. So please let me know if you think that there is a fix for this solution. Thank you

    Hello Saeed

The SATA drive bigger than we sell to the C6100 2 TB, but we sell Nearline SAS up to 4 TB of the C6100. I see no reason for a SATA drive more 2 TB should not operate.

  • Dell PowerEdge T110 II add on the video graphics card that works

    The system configuration:
    Dell PowerEdge T110 II
    BIOS 2.8.0
    RAM 2x8GB

For many reasons (for example feeding bus PCI), it is difficult to install a Dell PowerEdge T110 II graphics card.  The ATI Radeon HD 5450 is a good choice for the Dell PowerEdge T110 II because if its (approximately 10W) low energy consumption.

After trying several HD 5450 (listed below), a graphics card that works is a "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'.

Edit: Thanks to paikat for the following references, (see his assignment for the links, where to buy)...
    VisionTek manufacturer: 900356
    Reference Dell: A6173020

This card works when the monitor is connected to the VGA/D-SUB/DB15 connector. I wasn't looking to connect to HDMI or DVI connectors.

After you install this graphics card, passed the BIOS Setup:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: enabled

    by saying:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: Standard

and allowed to move from "Standard" to "Distributed" so it now says:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: distributed

Note: Install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the BIOS to Distributed settings, restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

Here are the identifiers on the "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'

    54502GBPC

Here are some pictures of the 5450 VT from DELL:

Other video cards that have been tested and work well in T110 II are:

    * XFX Radeon HD 5450 1 GB GDDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express graphics AMD card HD545XZQH2; HD-545 X-ZQH2
Note there is another version of this card is ONXFX1PLS2 who has not tested.

I hope this can help others avoid the frustration when you try to install a video card in a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.

    SR2002
I have read this thread and seen the suggestion of VisionTek, it also works with the card mother E3-1230V2?

My guess is the Dell PowerEdge T110 II uses the same motherboard for various configurations of CPU, but this is only a guess.

    SR2002
Also, are there better options eventually with the support of 12 DDR5 and directx?

None that I know, but I've only tried a few cards. Please let us know if you find cards better than the VisionTek 900356

    SR2002
I saw a thread suggesting ASUS GTX650-E-2GD5, someone at - he of the inputs on this card?

I tried a GeForce GT 610 2 GB and it did not work.  Check the use of the GTX650-E-2GD5 (DPT) power and make sure that it is less than 25 watts (see below)

    Quick notes:

    1. the location of PCIe x 16 is actually a "full-size x 8 slot" (also known as an x 16 slot / x 8) and the video card needs to work in this type of accommodation.

    2. video card power (TDP) is a limiting factor. Technical guide Dell says "the system supports a maximum power of 25 W for all four cards PCIe.»  and said Dell owner's manual "ATTENTION: to ensure correct cooling, not more than two cards of four extension may have more than 15 W power consumption (maximum 25 W each), not to mention the integrated storage controller card."

3 install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the built-in BIOS devices > on-board video controller 'Activated' / 'Standard' to 'Distributed', restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

  • Is it possible to Flash a BIOS SC8000 Compellent to make a Dell Poweredge R720 BIOS?

Is it possible to Flash a BIOS SC8000 Compellent to make a Dell Poweredge R720 BIOS?

Similar to the way you can Flash a BIOS NX3000 to make a R710.

I tried to Flash the BIOS in several different ways, including the BACK update and addition of /forcetype, /brandname and /forceit.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, tjkc80.

So, the quick answer is no. You will not be able to do. In the case of NX, it is simply a R710 we have renamed, attached an MD for sold and additional storage in the form of an appliance. You are able to 'rebrand' that the return to a R710 because he was once a R710.

In the case of the SC8000, there has never been a powerful storage controller. It cannot be "flashed" on a server, because it has never been a server. It is built and designed as a storage controller.

  • (Redirected) Dell poweredge 1950

I have a dell poweredge 1950 server that was given to my school and I am trying to install windows server 2003 on it, but an error saying:

Setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer.

Make sure that the hard drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any hardware configuration of the drives is correct. This may involve a diagnosis provided by the manufacturer or the installer running

    How can I fix?

I also tried to boot Ubuntu from a usb key and that no longer works.

I also said to update BIOS or Flash the Bios but I don't know how to do and do not know if that'll fix it.

I want to just get to the top and running, it can be Ubuntu or windows everything is easier.

  • (Redirected) Card SCSI Dell poweredge 1951 backlane

    Hello world

I installed and running a Dell poweredge 1950 that I use it to backup (tape) using Backup EXEC 2014. In the alley, he has an empty slot for a SCSI expansion card where a need can connect via a SCSI connection a different external tape drive. Due to the fact that the dell model is quite old, it is difficult to find a type of card.

I found online something to my request: [View:www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2]

but the problem is that it has two SCSI ports and it is too big to get it. I tried to find one with a single port, but I can't seem to find it. Have you also had this problem and if so where you bought the SCSI expansion? There is also the option to purchase a SCSI cable / USB, but I don't want to go with this solution. All advice what to do or where to buy expansion card I need.

    Thanks for the tips.
