Dell Precision 490 - Installer reboots after loading install.tgz

Heya,

I'm trying to install VMWare ESXi Update 1 4.0 on a Dell Precision 490 workstation. (Yes, not on HCL, I think).

In any case, I boot on the CD, and it proceeds along until the "Loading image.tgz" Stadium, after which it restarts without delay.

I took a video of the process, and in the last screen, just before the restart, he says:

Module: install.tgz

Loading install.tgz...

Start-up: MBI = 0 00010150 x, entrance = 0 x 0...

I tried to add that the 'noACPI' switch to the boot options, same result.

There seems to be something similar to what occurred here:

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/263240;JSESSIONID=9C89E876F761BC5E6D528BBB5ABC810F?TSTART=30

But there is an answer. (I posted here to see if the author has managed to operate).

See you soon,.

Victor

What you use for storage in the PWS490? What the rest of the specification of it (processors, amount of RAM, etc.)? Have you tried to install ESXi on a USB key (a device 2 GB +, SanDisk Cruzer work)?

Once I have my iSCSI SAN built, I'll be able to see how to boot from the USB goes on my Tower of PWS490... Should be some time later in the day...

  • ESXi and Dell Precision 490

First of all, let me say that, if this isn't the right place, I'm sorry.  I have a problem with installing ESXi on a precision.  I burned the ISO several times to several different discs.  I formatted the 490 three times now with a Ministry of defence approved the method via killdisk.  I pulled my hair to Googling for an answer, but it seems to elude me.

I'm trying to install VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 4.1.0-260247.x86_64.iso on a workstation Precision 490 with dual intel woodcrest xeon 5110 processorsand Buffered ECC memory of 4 GB and an AttachedSCSI reader series 74 GB.  I burned the ISO to a variety of different drives, including CD and DVD from three different companies.

Whenever I have ask the system to boot from the cd or dvd, drive it starts to Dr - Dos, spits out a ton of information so fast on the screen, I can not copy everything, disables the USB keyboard and the level of A:\  I have to remove the seizure of power or press and hold the power button in order to get the machine to answer.

I tried to disconnect the hard drive and boot from the disc, but the same thing happens.  I tried removing the HD and no cd/dvd in the drive and it fair errors by saying there is no disk.

When I installed vmserver, I came across some problems with download it VMwares site.  After sending an email to the subject they broke the download link, I got a call from a vmware support agent who helped get a working vmware server image.  He investigated what I was doing and explained I should use esxi because it would be much better, but I was unable to get the software to install even.

Googling has not donnГ no results that would be useful.  Most seem to point to something always on the hard drive, but the hard drive has been erased to the standards of the Ministry of defence.

Any help or thoughts would be grateful to you.  I would like to get this machine running.  My plans (do not know if it would be useful or not) are to install Freepbx on a virtual machine and another virtual machine to use as a sandbox environment to test Linux.  The machine would be dedicated PRIMARILY to the PBX and would have the largest piece of the resources.

Thank you for your time and your consideration.

    Kind regards.

Type in google esxi unofficial hcl. I think it's on vmetc do not look first. Otherwise I would try to find a controller from Dell which is supported in the official HCL or not

I have not created any volumnes RAID, and I just 2 hard drives 1 TB in slots 0 and 1.

When I boot on the installation CD, the unpacking of compressed files continues until "Loading image.tgz" how Setup does nothing and is blocked indefinitely.

As far as I know, all my system components are compatible.

    What I am doing wrong?

It sounded just like ESXi was the better (and easier) way to go.

That is right. From what I've heard and read, it will also be the future of ESX...

but I don't like as long as I can get it installed and running with a minimum of fuss.

I agree with you. ESX taking action a little more during installation and update, however it works in the same way as ESXi (with the exception of the Service Console).

  • Satellite M100 - recovery disc reboot after loading ramdisk image

    Hello world

    I have a Satellite M100 (bought mid-2006), 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, Intel CPU T2050.

I decided to have a cleaning and use the restore disc to return the laptop to factory settings, and then reinstall only what I really wanted.
I had this done yesterday, I had forgotten something, then he ran again about 4 hours later.
The first time that the restore worked, now it reboots once the progress bar reaches full when he says "Loading RAMDISK Image".
After the progress bar reaches full, the mouse pointer appears for a few seconds then restart the computer.

Nothing has changed with the hardware or BIOS, and what is on the HD should not have any effect because I am booting from the DVD.
Can someone please help? I am at a loss to explain what happened in this interval of 4 hours.

    Thank you

    Hello!

I put t know which causes the problem too because I m not an expert, but sometimes I can read in the forum, you must delete all partitions before using the recovery disk.
You can do this with the Microsoft disk for example. Just boot from it and delete all partitions. After that, restart and try to use the recovery disc.

I put t know if it helps but you can give us feedback. :)

    Good bye

  • How upgrade of workstations DELL Precision 490

    Hello!

I want to upgrade my workstation Dell to be able to use 5 PP with HD images.

First: I know the motherboard has a PCI x express slot 16 but not a PCI express 2, I'll be able to install a GTX 470

If the answer to the first is NOT, assuming that I have currently have a Nvidia FX 550 will be increased aid memory, if so up to what size.

    Thanks for your help

Take a look how a Dell 690 with the same processor performs the Benchmark PPBM5

He comes down with 921 s with a card GTX 460 CUDA, approximately 9 times slower than a fast system.

    Hello

Excuse my delay as you can well be upgraded to a whole new system now. :/

  • Workstation Dell Precision 490 and Sapphire HD6870?

I'm looking to run a Sapphire ATI HD6870 1 GB graphics card in my workstation 490.

I make any changes to make it work correctly? (A new power supply or whatever it is?).

I'm a Workstation 490 for fairly cheap from a friend and want to make a model of 'light' game and seeks to get this video card...

    Thank you!

P.s. If it works can not anyone suggest some decent modern maps which may be able to support the game? (My current computer gets 5-6 FPS in SWtOr, I try to do a lot better)

It should work fine.  It would seem that you have a 750 Watt power supply that is more than enough.  Just make sure you have two PCIe 6-pin power cable for the card.  I have a Sapphire HD 6870 myself and I love it.

  • Product key OEM Windows Vista Business on Precision 490

Just bought a Dell Precision 490. It comes with 32-bit Windows 7 HP... The product key for Windows 7 is on the case. With this key, there is a Microsoft Windows Vista Business OEM key. My first question is how do I know if it is a key of 32 or 64-bit of Windows Vista? Or can be used for either (it does not specify the key). My second question is how properly to reinstall Windows Vista. I noticed there are a lot of different people who sell different restart/reinstall/repair disk. Thank you.

Windows OEM product keys can be used to install either 32-bit or 64-bit.

You can ask Dell support (if in the United States, and after a "transfer of property") or use a disc from another system that corresponds to the version of that license is for (Home, Ultimate, etc.):

    support.Dell.com/.../backupcd_form

You can use Retail media, then activate by phone from Microsoft (not Dell) using your product key:

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../3317.2-3-Microsoft-Windows-Vista-Official-ISO-Download-Links-Digital-River.aspx

Just boot on the Windows DVD, delete all partitions that are shown to you, then call install... you will have to install drivers after Windows is installed, but you can ask that once Windows is on.

You must also determine if you have a RAID controller that requires special drivers during installation.  The 490 could use a PERC or SAS RAID 5 card.  You can check the box to see where the disks are wired to and/or check during POST to see if you have a CTRL-C or a prompt CTRL-R, while the loading devices.

  • This card will suit my Precision 490 workstation?

First of all, I want to thank Hunter for this thread and JMichael (and all) for reactions/answers interesting and very informative!

I bought a refurbished Dell Precision 490 work coming arrived today. (yay!) The one I bought has the following specifications:

    • Dell Precision 490 workstation cases
    • Card mother Dell
    • Two processors dual-core Intel Xeon 2.0 GHz each for Total of 4 units of execution
    • 500 GB SATA hard drive
    • ATI FireGL V3350 video card with DVI output double
    • 750 watts power

I bought (after consultation with Tiger Direct) from NewEgg.com (renovated) graphics card include:

01 G-P3-1371-RX of EVGA GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1 GB 256 - bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x 16 HDCP Ready SLI Support video card

In the specifications of the card it says that it is "double slot" However, the specs on the 490 show that it has a PCI-e 2.0 x 16 slot. The guys from Tiger Direct (after looking at the specs for the 490) said he would do. So my question is - is this the case? (no pun intended... well, maybe a little )

In addition, given that the map is a refurb, it comes not with cables or CDs with drivers. I found the article on EVGA website and saw that he (originally) comes with two cables for the power - it looks like two cables of 6 pin Molex (3rd picture from the left row, at the top), it also says:

    Requirements
At least a 450 Watt power supply.
(Recommended minimum power supply + 12 volt current rating of 24 amperes).
Two dongles available power of PCI-E 6 pin

And people to revisit the issue on NewEgg.com said that they had to order power cables separated - then... I ordered two of these. Those who will work with the Precision 490 and this card?

Additional information: the 490 I bought has the following:

    • 2 slot PCI-e x 8 wired as x 4
    • 1 PCI - e x 16 graphics slot
    • 2 slots for 64-bit / 100 MHz PCI - X with support for 3.3V or universal cards
    • 1 slot PCI 32-bit / 33 Mhz

I really am crossing fingers and toes that they will work together, because even if I don't play (except SolSuite Solitaire lol) I have do many 3d work in 3dsMax, (CUDA is so extremely important!), Daz3d and also a lot of work in the Adobe CS5 programs, so I had to switch to the Precision 490 workstation (am also installation of 8 GB of RAM (4 x 2 GB each) for a total of 10) GB of RAM. Hoping it will be a monster and my models will look stunning in my pictures!

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Given that the card mother a 490, 3 PCI-E slots with the 16 X being in the Center, I would say that Yes it will fit in the slot.

If it fits the length wise or past the heat sinks I have no idea.

  • error c00000021A on my windows XP Professional after you install spyware and computer back reset

I reinstalled windows XP Professional ON MY DELL gx270s, I formatted the hard disk, installed the drivers from dell four with him, but after I installed my avast spyware on it and the computer comes back from.  I get the code on a blue screen "COOOO21A ERROR". Could you help me with this

I would say that Avast has quarantined (effectively deleted) some system files important XP (he is known for this).

I have a few dozen c000021a errors in my notes, you must provide the exact error message that you see.  Note that these are zeros, not OHS.  I have a curious why would you only provide part of the message see you and wait to help us?

If yous system isn't bootm, the response from the Microsoft support engineer doesn't help.  Even if your system does not start, it would be still useless.  It is however the first article of KB Microsoft coming in a Bing search engine, but that's not good.  Don't waste your time on these responses.

Here is an example, and we need something like that on your part:

    STOP: c000021a {fatal system error}
    The Windows logon process ended unexpectedly with the status of 0xc0000034 (0 x 0000000 0000000 x 0).
The system has been shut down.

Then, you will need to answer these questions to the best you can:

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Your system have IDE or SATA disks?

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

    One is to do =
DP video monitor DVI - DL cardD

The other is to do =
HDMI to DVI video card -D SL monitor

Nine years, Dell OEM Nvidia Quadro FX 3500 has two DVI -I DL ports. I don't think there is such a thing as a DP/DVI-I cable or HDMI/DVI - I cable? You can buy a modern PCIe x 16 a DP or CDM out video card. Then connect to the U2715H using his DP in the cable of the CDM.
