Deployment of Ubuntu vCAC

Hello

y at - it all way of deploy a Ubuntu or Debian virtual machine by using the self-service portal of vCAC to my users?

My users need virtual machines with Ubuntu and Debian for development of applications, , but the matrix compatibility indicates that this mode of systems are not supported by the vCAC officer comments.

Best regards

Volnei

Hi Volnei,

Yes, it is possible to deploy vCAC Ubuntu machines. Compatibility matrix indicates it does not support. But supports the specification of Linux Ubuntu customization.

Kind regards

  • Deploying applications in vCAC

    To deploy applications in the templates, you can use Application Director. What are the tools outside enforcement Director do or can be used to deploy and configure applications such as SQL and Sharepoint automatically?

    What are the advantages and disadvantages of the tools?

    Looking forward to hear from you.

    Hello

    You have two options for what you describe, if you talk to a single instance without dependencies, then Application Director is a bit exaggerated.

    1 - use the comments vCAC agent to install the software.  This has the advantage of easily integrate with your deployments and works out of the box.  The requirement is that you have scripts ready to manage a facility without application support.  However, for the two apps you mention, these can easily be found on the Internet.

    2. use vCO workflows.  It really is my favorite because it does not keep the guest agent installed on a base image, it's a little more extensible than the agent of comments.  You'll also need scripts Unattend for this method, and this method works better with virtual machines VMware running VMtools (so that the vCO can launch scripts on the guest).

    3 puppet/head/salt.  These have the advantage of having very large repositories of content to deploy applications.  You just have to find the officer appropriate running on your computer and the configuration management solutions do the rest (and more).  This also has an advantage over #2 that you are not limited to VMware virtual machines.  Drawback is the rise of time to evaluate, select, learn and deploy these but I think in the long term, that worth the effort.

    So, you have a few options here.  Don't forget that you can use all these depending on the use case.  For example, vCO or the vCAC comments Agent can be used to install the agent of the puppet and then the puppets will do the rest.  For an example of what I'm talking about you, see blog of Ryan Kelly on the use of charm vCO with vCAC.  http://www.vmtocloud.com/self-service-application-deployment-with-Vcac-VCO-and-Chef/

  • Assignment of IP with vCAC external network profile

    I joined vCAC and NSX, and note that the Service Edge router that gets deployed on a blueprint multi-machine receives 2 IP addresses on its unique "uplink" profile external network interface.  Here is my setup and what is happening.  Any help to understand why this would be useful.  Not a huge deal because it is a learning laboratory, but when I go to implement it in a production environment, I need to know if this is expected behavior, or if something is wrong because it effectively reduces the number of possible networks to deploy-able by half.  Again, not a big problem as this "transport network" (the section between the Edge Gateway manually deployed and dynamic Service Edge routers) will exist entirely in the vSphere environment and can be as big as a class A network, if necessary, it is however a huge waste of space IP I want to solve it if possible.

    Topology:

    I have a NSX Edge and the virtual wire (switch NSX L2) already deployed in the environment.  Within vCAC I have:

    -a reserve related to the dvPortGroup created by the NSX L2 switch

    -an external network profile that is used to configure the port to uplink of dynamically deployed NSX routers edge of Service to connect to the LAN segment between the dynamic ESR and the switch of NSX Edge/L2, already deployed

    -a profile of NAT network 1 number which is used to configure the virtual machines deployed from vCAC plans

    -a vSphere vCAC VM blueprint pointing to a snapshot of a virtual computer within the environment vSphere (linked clone deployment)

    -a plan of multi-machine vCAC which contains the above plan and assigns a network interface to the virtual machine and using the profile of network NAT 1 to configure the IP settings on the virtual machine.  MM master plan contains only a single VM in order to test the dynamic creation of network and IP assignment features/integration between vCAC and NSX.

    Topology resulting, once the virtual computer is deployed:

    Edge (deployed manually) NSX gateway

    v

    v

    NSX L2 Switch/Virtual Wire (deployed manually

    v

    v

    NSX edge router Service (deployed as part of the deployment of the vCAC action plan)

    v

    v

    VM (deployed as part of the deployment of the vCAC action plan)

    In theory what needs to happen is that when I ask a resource of the Architecture SDSE MM:

    1. the ESR is deployed with 2 interfaces: 1 for the external network configured with an IP address available on the corresponding subnet and 1 for internal NAT network configured with the IP address of the default gateway is configured in the profile of NAT network.

    2 NAT rules and treatment of traffic are automatically configured in the ESR

    3. the virtual computer is deployed and configured with a NETWORK adapter with the configurations appropriate IP such as specified in the profile of NAT network.

    What is actually happening:
    1. the ESR gets deployed with 2 network cards; 1 NETWORK card for uplink to the external network, which gets 2 IP addresses on the subnet (instead of 1) 13 and 1 NIC for the default gateway of the NAT had network configured with the IP address of the NAT network default gateway.  Steps 2 and 3 still occur.

    Hi Jeremy,.

    It is the expected behavior. If you deploy an edge manually, you will be asked for a 'IP management', and then an IP address for the use of the uplink. It is the second IP source address. If you were to use a NAT, you get an additional IP address for each VM on the NAT's segment.

    See you soon,.

  • Cannot select non - Default Business Group the vCAC 6.01 as a cloud provider registration

    Since I'm on a vCAC single tenant deployment, I registered vCAC of the CLI darwin to the lessee 'vSphere.local '.  When you add the vCAC as a cloud provider instance, the vCAC hostname is filled by the record, but the process seems to a group of companies named "Default".  To complete the registration, I created 'Default' Business Group.  However, all rights, reservations, plans, etc. are attributed to different business groups.  The area Business Group is not active, so its not obvious how select a group of different companies.

    Okay, think I thought of her.  Join the vCAC server connection, and then synchronize business groups.  This creates App steering groups.  Then import your LDAP user account that is an administrator of the Business Group on vCAC. assign the role ROLE_CLOUD_ADMIN at least and put them in the AppDir group named for the vCAC business group.  Then log on to AddDir that this LDAP user and add the vCAC Cloud provider.  The business group will be set to the group to which the user is connected.

  • No memory available only appearing in of VDC in vCAC Reservations

    We assess vCloud Suite and want to connect vCAC vCloud Director to be able to deploy vApps in vCAC.  It seems that endpoint is configured correctly and the data collection has been completed successfully. However when I go to reservations in the vCAC enterprise administrator to install a new booking section, it does not matter what VDC I select, it displays 0 available memory.  It displays the correct values for the disk and network, but not for the memory.  If I go to vCloud Director and discovers the pool resource for the VCC allocatiions there are a lot of available memory.  Can someone tell me please in the right direction to get this working?

    Hi Van

    Is it a VCC of Pay as you go? vCAC does not support the model talk of VCC and according to me, this is a symptom of the lack of support. For Support info for the model Pay as you go will appear in a future release.

  • vCloud Application Director v6.0: VM provisioning does not advance status = "CustomizeOS."

    Hi all

    I am trying to deploy a simple plan with only one virtual machine, but it does not advance the delivery task. The virtual computer is deployed and applied function of "Customization Specification" because it takes the host name and IP. I tried with two models of VM, SLES11SP2 64-bit and 64-bit RHEL58. The model installed vSphere Agent and it is running.

    If I deploy the same vCAC VM directly, it works.

    Best regards

    Jose Luis Gomez

    Hello Jose Luis Gomez, I quote a comment of a member of the team of Application Director, Rakesh Sinha.

    "... The issue is with the model itself, looks like the model is not properly prepared. »

    Here are a few recommendations for you.

    1. follow the user guide to create the virtual machine template. The following link is the User Guide for Application Manager 6.0 on how to "Prepare vCenter Server Linux models of virtual machines". http://pubs.VMware.com/AppDirector-6/index.jsp#com.VMware.appdirector6.using.doc/GUID-659B901A-0071-43E5-9FBE-D1BB4EA8725F.html

    2. If you think that you have created the virtual machine correctly, please post here the following information.

    -On the deployed virtual computer, what are the files and directories under/opt/vmware-appdirector / and/opt/vmware-appdirector/agent?

    -Send the log in/opt/vmware-appdirector/agent/logs file, if applicable.

    Thank you!

  • User definable VM names with deploy from vCAC?

    Is there a way to allow a user to specify a virtual machine name when they apply for a VM in vCAC?

    We want to be able to specify a "descriptive of the environment" for deployed machines.

    So far I was able to specify a prefix of the machine. So that I could create 20 different models with different prefixes, it's just awkward and not really an acceptable option.

    vCAC Build 6.0 - 1720522

    Thank you

    Once again, you will need to use custom properties to do.

    Read this paper to find out what they are and how they work

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vCAC-60/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vCloud-Automation-Center-60-custom-property-reference.PDF

  • VRealize Automation Services 6.2 Application Deployment not removed after the expiry of the vRA (vCAC) machine"

    vRealize 6.2.0 - 2299574 Automation (vRA)

    vRealize Automation Services of Application (vRAAS) 6.2.0

    I have a request to vRAAS presented at vRA. It deploys successfully in the catalog of vRA.

    I then tell the machine ends, as the desired result is to completely remove the deployment.

    The machine disappears from the tab elements of vRA, but the deployment of the Application does not work - it's curious. There are no options for the user to remove what I can find.

    The virtual machine is removed in vCenter Server, but the watch still deployment within vRAAS.

    An admin can log in vRAAS and delete the deployment manually.

    The user has 'Publisher and responsible for the deployment of applications' role called in the vRA.

    Must the deployment (in the tab elements vRA & vRAAS location of deployments) automatically deleted also when the machine is out of date?

    Thank you!

    Currently DPPA does not know that the machine is expired or deleted of the vRA so that she feels her place and running so that him point will not be removed from DPPA.

    We probably need a better way to handle this level of product integration.

  • VCAC deployment in specific cluster

    OK what don't get me?  I have a data center location, I am deploying to dispose of 5 clusters inside the data center.  What I'm trying to accomplish is actually a two-part process.  First part is having any Windows Server builds to be place on cluster 1 and cluster 3 – any Linux server built on cluster 2 or group 4 and I seem to be wrong to get that far with the placement.

    The second part is placement based on the OS and the size of the virtual machine would be, for example, small Windows Server relies on cluster 1 places and large Windows Server build place on cluster 3 with the same concept for Linux virtual machines.

    I created a property definition called os.type that would be Windows or Linux and I os.type plan steering as well as listed as a custom property in the compute cluster resource.

    I thought it would be simple enough, but apparently I'm missing something somewhere.

    Who has some thoughts on that?

    Thanks for the reply!  Now quite the answer I was hoping for but at least annoys me to stop chasing my tail.  I actually worked on a logical scenario that can define some variables based on logic and from there I should be able to fill in the VirtualMachine.Admin.Hostname with the cluster I need, based on logic.

    Thanks for the answer and the link!

    See you soon

  • Problem deploying Multi-VM. VAPP in vCAC vcloud

    Hello

    It seems that for me, this could be the issue of the Workflow timeout to expire or terminate the process.

    Reson this assumption is, if I have available TIME equipped with unique virtual machine, it available very smoothly and thus obtain PowerON.

  • Ubuntu host customization vra7

    deploy us a machine model virtual ubuntu we want as our host name to update with automatic generated vm name of vRA.

    Is this only possible with the gugent interface?

    Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 15.19.03.png

    We tried to use 'software components' category of the designer but vra7 VirtualMachine.Admin.Name don't know not, so we can set the hostname generated through our own script years unknown this var.

    The UseGuestAgent made the rounds, but we want to keep it as simple as possible and to make changes via the part of software components.

    Kind regards

    James Grinwis

    You use a script customization vCenter for the action plan? If you can clone a virtual machine in vCenter using personalization script and change the hostname, you can use this customization script in the action plan to define the IP address and the hostname without the guagent. See Clone of vRA/vCAC plan Magic Secrets Revealed! for an example.

    OK, now it works very well. I guess the problem is that I deployed LabVIEW on Ubuntu 8.10 Release Candidate. The stable version has no problem.

    What could be the problem? The app has not changed, it is the environment.

    After that Googling autour, I found the problem had to do with the syntax.

    For example, on:

    http://StackOverflow.com/questions/7110563/GlassFish-v3-cant-deploy-MessageDriven-bean-missing-destination-JNDI-name

    I got the same error. The problem was:

    @ActivationConfigProperty (propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "jms/SampleTopic")

    This need to be

    @ActivationConfigProperty (propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "SampleTopic")

    Can whe´re I set this property?

    Whe´re is the configuration file of Glassfish?

    Could someone guide me through this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Peter,

    I found the domain.xml file. ~/glassfish4/GlassFish/domains/Domain1/config/domain.XML

    In this file, I wasn't able to find anything on the com.sun.appserv. *. packages.

    The software allows to work with this default file (on a Mac).

    With the asadmin terminal I tried to add custom resources.

    And they appear whe. After you restart glassfish no different result.

    The application deployment guide https://glassfish.java.net/docs/4.0/application-deployment-guide.pdf mentionned on glassfish ejb - jar.xml and ejb - jar.xml.

    I couldn't find these files for version 3.1.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E26576_01/doc.312/e24929/dd-files.htm#GSDPG00080

    But the app was capable on running with the default settings, so without these files.

    What can I check next?

  • Hi everyone, I want to formsweb.cfg deployment forms 10g Linux PLZ

    In my business, we changed all the clients for Linux (Ubuntu) but still Windows Server OS, I want to deploy forms 10 g on the client PC, but I do not know the modifications needed to formsweb.cfg

    This has nothing to do with Linux; 10 gr 2 forms just does not work with JRE7 (or newer) by default.

    I'm not the exact patchlevel you but to obtain forms gr 10, 2 running with JRE7 and higher, you will need to ask the last group of patches 10.1.2.3 and the latest patches of all sheets. In order to get them, you need a support contract to download from MOS (support.oracle.com).

    Note that even if it will work with the latest patches Forms 10 g 2 is not certified with Java7 or Java8.

    If you do not have a support contract so the only chance you have is upgrade to the latest forms - 11.1.2.2.

  • Trying to update vCAC Blueprint entity, gets "java.lang.NullPointerException".

    Hello

    I am trying to create a fairly complex workflow in vRealize Orchestrator.

    The purpose of this workflow is to clone a vRealize current/previous deployment MultiMachine Automation and mark the new clones as models and then update a plan Director multi-machine 'Ad hoc' vRA with these models new vCenter.

    Right now, I figured out how to map prints blueprint only computer individual Ad hoc, to clone new models of vCenter.

    This is done in the "VirtualMachineTemplateProperties" of each single computer model part.

    Thanks to a code borrowed Christiaan Roeleveld createiaasblueprintfortemplate package

    But because the components of the original deployment MultiMachine could were converted to the CPU and memory, I need to update the entity for SingleMachine component plans.

    I have one tries to use the workflow by default to "Update an entity of the vCAC model" for this.

    The code below is just hard code examples.

    I create a set of properties:

    theBlueprintEntityProperties =
    {
      CPUCount : "2",
      MemoryGB : "4096",
      DiskSize0GB : "20"
    };

    I then try to run the workflow 'Update an entity of the vCAC model' (inside my workflow of wrapper of cause), with the following entries:

    entity = theBlueprintEntity
    inputProperties = theBlueprintEntityProperties
    links = null
    headers = null

    But I get just "java.lang.NullPointerException".

    Correctly, this means that I need to include links or headers.

    I tried with a few links, again using package Christiaan Roeleveld createiaasblueprintfortemplate code

    But even if I include the following links:

    var links = {
      "InterfaceType": [ interfaceType ] // The vCAC Entity for the vSphere interface,
      "HostReservationPolicy": [ reservationPolicy ] // The vCAC Entity for my Reservation Policy,
      "ProvisioningGroup": [ provisioningGroup ] // The vCAC Entity for my Procisioning Group / Business Group,
      "WorkflowInfo": [ cloneWorkflow ] // The vCAC Entity for the Clone Workflow,
      "GlobalProfiles": buildProfiles // Array of build profiles, in this case just a array of one build profile,
    }

    I still just takes "java.lang.NullPointerException".

    Someone has a few entries on how to upgrade the vCAC entity for a master plan, with regard to the CPU, memory or disk?

    Environmental information:

    vRealize Orchestrator = 6.0.3 Build 3000581

    vCAC/vRA Pluging in vRO = 6.2.2

    vRealize Automation = 6.2.2 Build 2754020

    I found the problem.

    The problem is that the properties in the vRO inventory, for example 'VirtualMachineTemplateDescription' has an envelope has changed compared to the vRA SQL database.

    In the vRO inventory, it is listed as virtualMachineTemplateDescription ("v" in lowercase)

    But in the vRA, database SQL, it is listed as VirtualMachineTemplateDescription (capital ' V')

    And when properties are not what is in the database, the answer back is:

    java.lang.NullPointerException

    Here's the corrected code that updates the VirtualMachineTemplateDescription, the CPUCount and the MemoryMB of an entity of Blueprint.

    var entity = theBlueprint.getEntity();

    var properties =
    {
      VirtualMachineTemplateDescription : "Testing Description",
      CPUCount : 8,
      MemoryMB : 18432
    };

    var hostId = entity.hostId;
    var modelName = entity.modelName;
    var setName = entity.entitySetName;
    var keyString = entity.keyString;

    vCACEntityManager.updateModelEntityBySerializedKey(hostId, modelName, setName, keyString, properties, null, null);
