Desktop files disappeared
Hello
I had folders and files, now all files disappeared, records remain only. Files where 2 photos, 2 .txt files, a shortcut to a Web page and a few other similar stuff.
I'm not sure what I did to create the problem, I saw the elements disappear I think when I moved an image on the desktop.
I tried looking for one of the files by using the advanced search (search in files hidden, etc.) and to recycle bin but there is nothing.
So where can they pass? If you suggest me to do system restore I would like to know what system restore will remove it from my pc, because I download files when this incident's product.
Thank you
Jack
Hi Jack,
Follow the below mentioned methods and check.
Method 1: You can try to unmask the hiddden files and check.
Show hidden files

What is a hidden file?

Check also in a recycling bin folder.
Method 2: It uses system restore to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time, without affecting personal files, the restore points.

Hey Reba Jo
try a restore of the system before this happened
http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
If necessary do the restore of the system in safe mode

Using the F8 method:
- Restart your computer.
- When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
- Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
- Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
- To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
- Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

I tried to download the "critical update" on this topic on the HP site but the link takes me to a complete installation I installed without success. Where can I find this update 'critical '.

My Desktop files and shortcuts to folders disappeared
original title: My Desktop files (images, PDF, PSD, txt etc.) as well as shortcuts to folders disappeared. Where files could go to?
One day, he was doing fine. The other, a whole bunch of icons, files, records were missing. Some are still there, others are not. I've been racking my brain for if I installed anything. And I uninstalled these programs. No change. I got the files that I just used on my desk and they went. Photos, psd files, pdfs, remark, I need things and they are gone!
What could be behind this problem and how to bring them back? The only thing I remember of change was McAfee. She gave me bad. I called support. They uninstalled and reinstalled. But they were fine after that. No change until yesterday.
No need for a restore. Thanks for the help.
However, somehow loads of programs and files have been placed as 'hidden' (don't know how it happened yet)
I was able to fix the half of them, yet some programs are not available. But working through the problem. For those of you who have the same problem.
As all my files and folders are back! And are very well Phew! Everything is better!Solution:
If I remember correctly, as it has been quite some time. I opened "My Computer" click "Desktop" at the top left. Then I clicked on "Organize" and then "Folder and Search Options" and then "view" then I searched "hidden files and folders" and selected "Show hidden files folders and drives." Click on "OK." -that worked for me.

The digitized files disappear after that scanning with HP Solution Center update
The digitized files disappear after that scanning with HP Solution Center update
Have a HP Officejet Pro L7590 all-in-one. Under Vista 64-bit.
Updated my Center of solutions for version 14. Now when I scan something, it scans OK then when I save to file it away. Looked on the HP site and found Update critical for this problem, however, the critical update is to version 13 and when I try to run it it tells me I need not and will not continue.
Also: (maybe something to do with the problem) when using the / opening of the solution Center, when I goes to the buttons "ScanPicture" or "Scan a Document" and then click on "Change settings" there is nothing in the drop-down list for the ' Scan To: ' section.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. Does not work.
See you soon!Hello
Two questions actually related to each other.
Please, try the following:
Make sure that the HP Solution Center is closed.
Enter C:\Program Files (x 86) \HP\Digital Imaging\bin and search for the file hpqxmlul.dll .
Move this file to a temporary folder elsewhere as your office, just to backup porpuses.
Download and save the following file to your desktop, remove it by double-clicking, a new hpqxmlul.dll file appears on your desktop.
Move this file in C:\Program Files (x 86) \HP\Digital Imaging\bin.
Today the launch of the HP Solution Center and test analysis, check any changes with the sweep for list as well.
Please let me know of any changes.

Having just downloaded the latest Firefox update (I'm on the beta channel), as soon as it restarts, five of my desktop icons disappeared. I have more than 60 icons on my desktop and I don't remember what they are. Is it possible to know what icons have disappeared and the recovery please?
Hi markyb208,
I'm not sure what you have a problem with Firefox.
Are you talking about icons on your Windows 7 desktop. In a standard installation, Firefox will try to add an icon on the desktop, but it shouldn't do something to remove the icons.

Pavilion p7: the desktop icons disappeared
When I started my pc this morning I founf that all my desktop icons disappeared
Hmm, that's strange. I wonder if you might have accidentally switched to Tablet mode, where the desktop icons would not display. See switch between Mode desktop and Tablet (Windows 10).
If this does not work, try to install the Windows updates and reboot your computer. I would also like to run a virus scan. Good luck!

The desktop icons disappear after reboot. The operating system is windows xp pofessional. No virus found. How do I solve this problem
Hi akilsun,-Remember you proceed with recent computer between the calendar changes when things worked fine and now? This problem occurs if the function display desktop icons has been disabled. To enable this feature, see the following article: -
I travel a lot and always had problems with what files and update my portable media player. Finally, I feel I have the solution and until now it works fine except for two files. I have only about 8 files/important things I work on quite regular, then now, I set up the files on my laptop and managed to get them to be the main 'saved' from my office. In this way, when I go, all I need to do is to make a back-up of EXACTLY what is on my laptop and here I am. [I used to work on my desktop and I must then transfer the files to my laptop when I would need to travel, but inadvertently, is I would like to work on a file on my desktop before I left (but after the transfer) and when I got home from my trip that I would not forget to transfer the portable desktop files but would open and work on a desktop file before realizing that I] did not transfer. So it would be a nightmare to have to compare each file to copy / paste new entries of the desktop and laptop to get a REAL current, updated file. Now I am working just on the laptop at work, and then on a trip (just have to make backups of a 8 files). My only two problems are that for the life of me, I can't find how to have FAVORITES and save on the laptop instead of the OFFICE desktop computer. Please tell me step by step how I do drive (portable) M be my default save to FAVORITES, and OFFICE to make the perfect solution for my high travels. Thank you

Hi Barbara,
You can use the player to burn a mixture of songs from the library of the drive or your computer to an audio CD, after which you can play the CD in any standard CD player. Alternatively, you can burn files on CD and DVD data. It is not possible to burn the live streams, such as radio stations, on a CD or a DVD.
Follow the steps in the link below.

All previous Desktop files lost after having a Vista system restore

Try going to your drive C/users / / desktop
and if it isn't there then the files were probably deleted permanently unless they were shortcuts to programs in this case, they would be somewhere in the program most likely files -
