Determination of CPU resource advice needed

Hello-

Environment = ESXi 4.0

Group 1 = 13/55 guests invited

Group 2 = 7/38 guests invited

Group 1 to 2 pools of resources created, 1 on the resource pools contains 2 guests who constantly suffer from hunger for more of CPU, tips several times a day and stays spiked for 30 minutes.

Both of the guests are running on CPU 1.  How can I determine if I should add a CPU to the guest or change resource pool settings?

Currently, the CPU resources in the resource pool settings are:

Actions: Normal (4000)

Reservation: 0 MHz

Expandable reservation is verified

Limit: 60000 MHz

Unlimited is not checked.

The resource pool is home to 13 guests in addition to these 2 who constantly alarm as to who need more CPU (on average between 70000-90000).  The other guests very rarely and if so, spike and then descends, is complaining about needing more.

My first inclination is to raise the reserve to 80000 however I noticed that the systems are only on a single processor and thought maybe add a second would help more.  The guests are cyclists of the document, so they are sent in batches across the whole of the hundreds / thousands of documents and the Server sorts documents and places them in specific functional areas for the community users.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I was still very green on how work resource Pools.  Thank you in advance.

I would recommend that you read the Guide of VMware here www resources management. VMware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_resource_mgmt.pdf

It is important to thorougly understand these settings and how it works and limitation is effective.  If you do not know and implemented of resource pool, you will be finished chopping down your foot, but remember that the allocation of the resources of reservation of memory is not shareable and non-recoverable.

After the great http://frankdenneman.nl/2010/05/Resource-Pools-Memory-reservations/ and explanation.

  • Reservation of CPU Resource Pool

    Hello everyone

    I need feedback on pools of resources, and in particular for the CPU share uses.

    I read the "Mastering Vmware vSphere 5.5" and I understand how Vmware works for the share of the CPU.

    I have the a customer who want to buy me a resource pools for this virtual machine management. He will buy vCPU 26 and 64 GB of RAM.

    I know how to set up the RAM, but I did not how to do for the CPU.

    I started by 26 multiples by the clock of the CPU, but the value is higher or lower than 1 ESXi. So I think I made a mistack.

    Can someone help me to understand how do for the CPU resource pool.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

    Personally, I put a limit of 2 GHz by heart. CPU host have 3.0 GHz. On this way a big vm as you can 'kill' the host and other virtual machines on it.

    When you use the same limit, you will need to set the limit at 52000 MHz (26 x 2000 MHz Cores).

    Kind regards

    Patrick

    I'm testing the resource limit of resource manager. in all the documents I read, after you create groups of consumers, if I gave a resource limit in terms of resources, it is said, this group of consumers won't be able to consume more cpu than that. for ex, 2 consumer group I have one of them gave 90% of cpu and the other (let's call it test_group) 5%, but when I connect with a user who is located in the test_group consumer group. After the execution of some sql/plsql, I noticed that it uses all the cpu.

    EDIT: to the fifth message there is all the code samples and the test results with screenshots.

    for ex in this page: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/mdm/v10r0m0/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.mdmhs.smpl.gd.doc%2Fr_oracle_db_resource_manager_working_example.html

    There is a code example that explain the plan. It is said REPORTING_GROUP is not being able to occupy more than 5% of CPU times in total. I used this code, but reporting_group always be able to consume all the cpu. I tested this code (also I have created a new group and the plan of Enterprise manager) on windows 7 64-bit, intel i7 cpu with 4 core and on the same machine, using the virtual machine oralinux. as database, Enterprise edition 11.2.0.1

    also resources plan is active and working, active session limit or cancel hen size for example, works when I tested it, but CPU limit is not. for testing I used the plsql code.

    create or replace function sf_test(p number) return number as
      x number;
    begin
      select 1 into x from sh.sales where prod_id = p and rownum = 1;
      return 1;
    exception
      when no_data_found then
        return 0;
    end;
    /

    declare
      x number;
    begin
      for i in 1..50 loop
        for i in 1..10000 loop
          x := sf_Test(i);
        end loop;
      end loop;
    end;

    I created four session of the Report1 user (in the link I mentioned before) and run this code plsql, at most 5% of cpu if they had but my CPU is overloaded almost every time.

    I missed something here or I got all wrong concept?

    PS: setting resource_limit is true and resouce_plan is the plan that I created. as I said before the plan is active and functional, I know, but may not limit the cpu. I would appreciate it if you help. Thank you very much.

    Looks like the resource manager behave correctly.

    If the session manager are not ask for 95 percent of the CPU resources, what remains will be the users of the report.  Oracle will not starve the UC report sessions if there are a bunch of CPU idle.

    If there are 8 Virtual cores and a bunch of single threaded sessions, you need at least 8 sessions before Manager the Manager could use 95% of the available CPU.  Most likely, you would need 9 or 10.

    If you have only a 6-wire Manager, these discussions could consume at least 6/8 = 75% of the available CPU but probably more than 67% (to pick a number that facilitates the calculation).  There is 33% of the CPU for the report.  There are 4 sessions of report in your screenshot with a little more than 2 cores available and each one seems to spend slightly more than 50% of their time on the CPU, which looks all right.

    Can I fix without reinstalling Windows? Or should I just wait for Windows 8?

  • Material X61s interrupt up to 40% of CPU resource

    Hello, I have recently updated my hard drive of my x61s a seagate Momentus 7200.3 GForce - 320 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB ST9320421ASG. After that I did a fresh install with Windows XP Professional on the new drive twice! Every time when installation is finished, I'm starting to get an interruption in equipment wired with constantly consume up to 40% of my cpu, resource and cut my half battery life. I tried to disabled the component one after the other in order to locate the problem (what componet sends the interruption). But I found nothing. And the interruption does not start immediately when I boot XP. He sometimes starts later after login or start some programs like opera or Firefox browser. Anyone have an idea about this problem? BTW, I already use the system update to get all my drivers and bios to the old version. Thank you!

    I'm not a fan of programs like Ccleaner, if they are used in an aggressive manner, they can corrupt a Windows system and cause all sorts of problems.

  • script which gives the hostname with more CPU resources and memory available

    Hello

    Anyone have a script which gives the hostname with more CPU resources and memory available in the cluster?

    Concerning

    Vickie

    Hello, VicMware-

    You can get the host with the free CPU, or with the most free memory resources, using the following:

    ## get the host with the most free CPU cyclesGet-Cluster myCluster0 | Get-VMHost | Select-Object Name,    @{n="CpuMhzFree"; e={$_.CpuTotalMhz - $_.CpuUsageMhz}} | Sort-Object -Property CpuMhzFree -Descending | Select -First 1

    ## get the host with the most free memoryGet-Cluster myCluster0 | Get-VMHost | Select-Object Name,    @{n="MemGBFree"; e={$_.MemoryTotalGB - $_.MemoryUsageGB}} | Sort-Object -Property MemGBFree -Descending | Select -First 1

    The first would have produced something like:

    Name          CpuMhzFree
    ----          ----------
    myVMHost0          25384

    And the latter didn't would be out:

    Name           MemGBFree
    ----           ---------
    myVMHost4        122.323

    .. .or each of these host computers are those with the most free memory/CPU cluster, respectively.  What to do the things for which you are looking?

    I had the latest version works perfectly, and since I have updated to version 3.1 my Windows XP SP3 is too slow with 100% of CPU resources during the first 3-5 minutes. After this time, there is a 'system' of the process of the SYSTEM user that starts in almost 40% of resources.

    In summary, the worse performance than the previous version...

    Hello

    It is not quite normal.

    Your description makes me think that there is something wrong with your vmware-tools Setup program.

    I suggest you completely remove the VMware tools, reboot and then re-install vmware tools.

    You can take a snapshot of your VM current before that (and he commit after you complete the procedure)

  • CLI command (or script) to determine if a resource pool has enough resources to a virtual machine

    Is there if a VMS resource pool has enough resources available to start the virtual machine WITHOUT triggering an error of vSphere PowerCLI script - or a series of commands - which can be used to determine?

    For reasons of performance test, we use a pool of resources with maximum rates for RAM and CPU.  Each virtual machine in the pool has a reservation for CPU and RAM.  Test automation will try to start VMs as much as possible in the pool during the test.  The CLI will return an error when you start the virtual machine may exceed the amount of allowed resources.  When this happens, an error on the console vSphere "insufficient resources".  Instead of constantly from the virtual machine, fault and generates error - is there a way to check to see if there is enough space?

    Thank you

    Hi Jason,

    You can try if the following PowerCLI function is what you need. The function does not resemble stretch bookings.

    function Get-VmStartPossible {
      param($VM)

      $VM = Get-VM $VM
      $ResourcePool = $VM | Get-ResourcePool

      $CpuReservationUsed = $ResourcePool.ExtensionData.Runtime.Cpu.ReservationUsed
      $VMCpuReservation = $VM.ExtensionData.ResourceConfig.CpuAllocation.Reservation
      $ResourcePoolCpuLimit = $ResourcePool.ExtensionData.Config.CpuAllocation.Limit

      $MemoryReservationUsed = $ResourcePool.ExtensionData.Runtime.Memory.ReservationUsed
      $VMMemoryReservation = $VM.ExtensionData.ResourceConfig.MemoryAllocation.Reservation
      $ResourcePoolMemoryLimit = $ResourcePool.ExtensionData.Config.MemoryAllocation.Limit*1MB

      if (($CpuReservationUsed + $VMCpuReservation -gt $ResourcePoolCpuLimit) -or ($MemoryReservationUsed + $VMMemoryReservation -gt $ResourcePoolMemoryLimit))
      {
        $false
      }
      else
      {
        $true
      }
    }

    You can call the function with:

    Get-VmStartPossible -VM MyVM

  • Qosmio G20 - RAM and GDD upgrade advice needed

    Hi all

    I have decided to try to give my old g20 renewed life with a few updates, but could do with a few tips before you start to throw money at it.
    The first and most obvious update will install two sticks of 1 GB memory and I was thinking about crossing the old hard disk of 80 GB 5400 RPM to something big and I hope more quickly as a 320 GB 7200 RPM, any advice on this would be appreciated because I don't know if this is possible.

    I was also wondering if the cpu can be upgraded and if someone knew were I could get a new mine cpu fan has become noisy.

    Thanks for you time all tips, ideas and input would be much appreciated.

    2 x 1 GB RAM will be fine. You must use the RAM that has the same speed and timings of CASE/RAS similar as the original of the RAM. Avoid the "Value RAM."

    With respect to the HARD disk, a 120 GB should certainly work, but 320 GB * could * be too large depending on what the Chipset and BIOS can support. Maybe an other G20 owner here it can confirm works, or search the Qosmio for "HARD drive" section

    With respect to the processor, you must be careful when upgrading it. Look at the other models of the G20 and determine what the CPU the fastest they have. This way you can almost guarantee it will work properly.
    If you install a faster processor is faster than what is available in the range of the G20, may not be detected correctly and the cooling fan isn't able to manage the production of heat, causing the laptop overheats.
    Also, I think that a special utility must be run to calibrate the CPU. In my view, that the ASP have access to this utility. The CPU can run very slowly if this utility is not running.

    An FSL may replace the noisy fans for you and remove any accumulation of dust at the same time.

    MacBook Pro 15 inch, early 2011 running OS X El Capitan 10.11.1

    About a week ago I started to notice a considerable following during the time delay of opening the programs, files, and even typing... everything freezes for 2-3 seconds, then I get the beachball for a few seconds to more than a minute. I used the disk utility and checked everything (not verified, no repair required). As I obviously have a problem, I made a Time Machine backup to a WD 1 TB hard drive external and downloaded EtreCheck-2... I ran it at least five times in the course of a few days and whenever he found between 20 and 109 errors and I get unable to drive! Message. If there is a chance the drive is NOT the issue, I want to help out but don't know where to start... since I was a backup Time Machine recently can I wipe the drive and reinstall? Space seems to be a problem... plan to move photos from k 8 currently on my machine to the external hard drive. Also removed apps that I don't use, but I see pieces on the EtreCheck that I can't purge (Motorola, Jaksta). Any advice would be helpful... Most recent EtreCheck shown below.

  • Consumption of CPU resources with several EtherCAT devices

    I use a cRIO 9074 as EtherCAT master and see extremely high CPU usage with only a handful of the deployed devices, nevertheless does not apparently works task from the CPU.

    Installation: I use a simple loop of 100 Hz timed synchronized with the analytical engine that prints a message to the debug console each cycle and samples once CPU usage every 100 cycles. That I added several discs (3rd party engine Copley), I see the CPU load increase as follows:

    Disks / use of the CPU

    0 / 43%

    1 / 67%

    2 / 74%

    3 / 81%

    4 / 89%

    5 / 95%

    6 / 99%

    7 / 100%

    Keeping in mind that I'm not perform a different operation, including the AOP/SDO reads/writes, I would expect much better performance. Reportedly, EtherCAT is able to communicate with dozens of devices at rates of up to 1 khz. Is this a limitation of the controller I use, or I need to run another action for the consumption of resources under control?

    Thank you

    Patrick

    I have discovered a solution to this problem.

    I used digital I/O blocks of read/write, but is not connected to the terminals of the error. When I connected to the terminals of all serial error I see a massive reduction of the CPU and can reach loop rates of > 500 Hz... He also seems to have helped that I removed the foreign software modules which lowers the consumption of resources of reference on the cRIO.
