Qosmio G20 - RAM and GDD upgrade advice needed

Hi all

I have decided to try to give my old g20 renewed life with a few updates, but could do with a few tips before you start to throw money at it.
The first and most obvious update will install two sticks of 1 GB memory and I was thinking about crossing the old hard disk of 80 GB 5400 RPM to something big and I hope more quickly as a 320 GB 7200 RPM, any advice on this would be appreciated because I don't know if this is possible.

I was also wondering if the cpu can be upgraded and if someone knew were I could get a new mine cpu fan has become noisy.

Thanks for you time all tips, ideas and input would be much appreciated.

2 x 1 GB RAM will be fine. You must use the RAM that has the same speed and timings of CASE/RAS similar as the original of the RAM. Avoid the "Value RAM."

With respect to the HARD disk, a 120 GB should certainly work, but 320 GB * could * be too large depending on what the Chipset and BIOS can support. Maybe an other G20 owner here it can confirm works, or search the Qosmio for "HARD drive" section

With respect to the processor, you must be careful when upgrading it. Look at the other models of the G20 and determine what the CPU the fastest they have. This way you can almost guarantee it will work properly.
If you install a faster processor is faster than what is available in the range of the G20, may not be detected correctly and the cooling fan isn't able to manage the production of heat, causing the laptop overheats.
Also, I think that a special utility must be run to calibrate the CPU. In my view, that the ASP have access to this utility. The CPU can run very slowly if this utility is not running.

An FSL may replace the noisy fans for you and remove any accumulation of dust at the same time.

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See page 3 of the memory card. It is said 12 GB is the maximum, but we know from experience, you can install 2 x 8 GB in total 16 concerts. No 32 GB. It must be low voltage, and if you already have a single module of 8 GB you want to duplicate its specifications. If it has 8 black blocks on the side, you need to get a module like this.

It is not easy to work on this system. You must remove the top cover to get to the hard drive Bay and remove the motherboard to add RAM. See p. 105 and 116.

Module of memory of 8 GB 693374-005

There's a 16 gig module listed, but it is for AMD laptops with a single location and will not work on your motherboard, even if you could find it.

You can install a type SATA 2.5-inch 1 TB SSD. There is no definitive list brands supported. People sometimes have problems with some specific SSD as some determinative seem to cause problems, but the Evo to Samsung 850 is a good choice with a record few if any questions.

The computer does not know if she is running only Windows or Linux and the RAM or the SSD works with Linux or Windows, or in dual boot. The Linux kernels current used in the current distributions like Ubuntu 16.04 SSD handle very well with a maximum return.

  • Qosmio G20 - sound and drivers tv tuner (digital)

    Hi all

I recently purchased a Qosmio G20 (490ls) to the Japan and nothing else that problems have had so far.
The original operating system that came with the computer is Windows XP Home Edition (Japanese). I can't read Japanese, but I have an English version of Windows XP MCE, so I don't think it would be a problem.

I could not install it correctly so I delivered to a technician and he accidentally deleted all (OS, drivers, etc) and I don't have a recovery of the original disc.

in any case, I gave him a new technology to install and they're almost finished except they lack 2 drivers - audio driver and tv tuner driver. European drivers are analog and do not work on the Japanese version, however, it needs digital drivers.

I desperately need a "digital sound driver" and a "digital tv tuner driver", if someone could help me out or point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated =)

    Thank you

    Hello Michael

I'm very happy you're here. Maybe you can give us some very useful information. I heard that just TV tuner to the Japan from be used worldwide without restriction standard.
    Do you know something?

Maybe this is the reason why you can't set it up properly. I am sure that the driver for your device is designed only for the Japanese market and it is possible that our pilot European doesn t work properly. Check the driver of OUR download site

Indeed, I am of the India.

First of all, I would recommend what I felt the better for OUR laptops. Mine is a DV6 6121tx with the config following-Core i7 2630QM at 2.00 GHz with TB up to 2.90 GHz

    12 GB DDR3 RAM

256 GB SSD + 640 GB HDD (will tell you more info on my dual setup of HARD drive later.

    HD6770M 2 GB with DDR5 Mem

So everything I post here, you can directly go and fix it.

For my double HARD - SSD drive setup, here go it.

    1 video - http://https :// www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmUkk2gdoC8

    2.Caddy -http://www.ebay.in/itm/Universal-12mm-Laptop-Optical-Bay-Hard-Disk-SATA-to-SATA-12-7mm-HDD-Caddy-/321405307668?pt=IN_Laptop_Desktop_Accessories&hash=item4ad53fcb14&_uhb=1

4.SSD - GB to 256 GB Samsung 840 EVO (best value) or 840 Pro (expensive, but with the best possible performance). Buy SSD that from PrimeABGB - the best online store for SSDS.

Just a few errors that I don't want to make you-

1 put the SSD in Caddy and cable of optical drive on a HARD disk. Reason: your SSD will be connected to the Sata 6.0GBps port. You may think that you can directly put a SSD instead of HARD drive and put the HARD drive in the caddy, but HARD DRIVE could vibrate in caddy culminating in his death.

2 carefully remove the ODD mounting plate and put it on the caddy. You get an extra façade with caddy. With cable, you can still use your DVD burner drive as external.

For your RAM, anyone with a 1333 MHz will be. CASE latency for most of the brands are the same. Do not go for a 1600 MHz, as it will be a waste of money.

I should also the total list of expenses involved in this upgrade-

    1 SSD EVO - Rs.11, 000

    2 SSD Caddy-Rs 750

    3.cable - Rs.650

    4.4 GB OF RAM-~ 2600

    Total - Rs.15000.

Believe me, you will fall in love with your laptop again.

Just a word of warning-reading on google how to make the best of the SSD. Its much different from your HARD drive and a lot of need to follow different practices. Also, I recommend for a 128 GB, as I personally have 185 GB free on SSD after winning 8 + all apps + 3 heavy games installed. So you can save any amount it.

    Good shopping

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2120tx: HP Pavilion dv6-2120tx RAM and SSD UPGRADE

    HI guys,.

I want to improve my ram from 4 GB to 8 GB or 16 and my 500 GB HDD 120 GB SSD.
The problem is that I'm not sure what RAM and SSD is compatible.

    My current features are:
    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Intel Core i5 430M at 2.27 GHz
    Technology of 32nm Arrandale
    RAM
    4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532 MHz (7-7-7-20)
    Motherboard
    Hewlett-Packard 3659 (CPU)
    Graphics
    Monitor generic PnP (1366x768@60Hz)
1024MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M (HP)
    Storage
    465 GB Hitachi HTS725050A9A364 (SATA)
1 GB JMCR SD/MMC SCSI Disk Device (NULL)
    I think about Corsair 8 GB DDR3 - 1333 MHz (CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9) for ram,
and Adata first Pro sp310 128 GB SSD.
They will be compatible with my laptop? If not, what are those who do you suggest?
    Thanks in advance.
    Any help is very appreciated!

It will take 8 gigs. It is aka PC3-8500 SO-DIMM DDR3-1066 and is the part specified in the Manual:

    The modules, PC3 memory, 1066 MHz FSB 4096 MB 579156-001 ■

    http://www.Amazon.com/2x4GB-DDR3-SODIMM-PC3-8500-memory/DP/B00E0TIQWQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&QID=1464985698&SR=8-4&keywords=PC3-8500+so-DIMM

The memory you chose will likely work, but sometimes the fastest memory will not downclock and laptop computers HP certainly prefer low density memory, 8 blocks on each side not 4.

The SSD that you selected will be OK, but I encourage you to spring for at least a 240 GB model. 128 GB is a bit of containment in the current environment and SSD prices are low, as is the memory. Never been a better time to upgrade. I just took a 240 on eBay, major brands, for $56 shipped.

The information you can get from Toshiba on the RAM, it's that your laptop can handle with max 320 MB of RAM.
    Compatible RAM is PA3005U - 1 M 12 > 128 MB.
    This RAM is tested.

Of course, you can use other brands. Just make sure that you are using the high quality product and also the same specification of RAM.

    Hello, I have 2 questions:
1 is it possible to install more then 2048 MB RAM in M70 - 131. If someone tried this?
    2. is it possible to install the new processor of M70 - 131? Now, i've got Pentium M (750) 1, 86GHz (Dothan, 533 MHz). Can I install for example Pentium M (780) 2.26 GHz or higher?

    Hello

The M70 supports max 2 GB of RAM and upgrade the CPU is usually not possible and undesirable for different reasons.
In most cases the overheating is the main reason why you shouldn't t try to upgrade the processor. Secondly, the BIOS was not designed to handle the different processors and no one will be able to tell if your cell phone will work stable after an upgrade of the CPU.

    Cheers for any info

    Hi skimming_skinner,

The problem is that this graphics card is not extendable part. That means t, you can exchange it with another model because it s fixed/soldered to the motherboard and nontradable.

  • HDD upgrade advice needed on the Qosmio X 300-112

I own a X 300 - 112 Qosmio laptop that contains two hard drives SATA 200 GB. I would like to improve the storage on this laptop by deleting the hard drives (the non-OS one) and replace it with a bigger (to 1-1, 5).

What is your opinion on this? Can I choose any hard disk that I love?

Any brand, as long as it is 2.5 SATA-300 "?" Maybe a "Toshiba MQ01ABB, 2 TB?

My first thought was changed to HARD drive which contains the OS and replace it with fast SSD. If you can increase the performance of s for laptop. Second HARD drive to store data can be the HARD drive.

Anyway, if you want to Exchange second that I see here no problem so I think you can choose any brand. Essence, it is the price. Do not buy more expensive.

To be honest I have not experience with 2 TB portable hard drives, but I think this should work. If not, send it back.
