Device Manager does not not in Vista Home Premium 64
Well, I tried to help others in the hardware section so maybe someone here can offer some advice for me.
I'm running Vista 64 Home Premium on a dv9700. For more than a year the Device Manager did not work. Everytime I try to open an error window appears which says "mmc.exe - bad Image". I also have a similar error window when I try to open MS Paint and several other utilities like the option "Manage" when I right click on my computer. In the fault window is a big red X and it says: "C:\Windows\System32\odbcint.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or support software provider. "In the case of MS Paint, he says"mspaint.exe - bad Image"at the top of the window of the fault, although he then gives the same extended error description as above. I think that the root cause of all this might be a bad odbcint.dll file, regardless of who is.
The problem has existed for some time, but I would like to be able to reuse my device manager to check the dates on the drivers and things for updates. I know I could probably use the system recovery option, but I prefer not to return to the factory default state and having to reinstall all programs, I've added since I bought this computer almost 3 years ago. Windows used to have a repair option that would repair the system files without deleting the installed programs. I can't find that on Vista.
I have already run the SFC/scannow utility from the command prompt at the level of the system administrator. It passes through the system for a long time and then says it finds corrupted files, but could not solve some of them and go to CBS. LOG file for more details. When I try to open this log file, it says: 'access denied', even if I have the system administrator access level.
Someone at - it give me advice without having to restore everything to default "as shipped"?

If it is primarily the .dll files that are corrupted, you can try to replace them by downloading a copy from the library on the link below. For example, mmcndmgr.dll avoids Device Manager works if it is damaged.

Thanks for the link DLL Vista d/l. I didn't know who was available. I downloaded odbcint.dll which the fault indicates that this file is either damaged or missing and replaced him in the windows/system32 directory. Also, I did the same with the file mmcndmgr.dll you mentioned. I get always the fault of odbcint.dll every time that I try to use the devices, MS-Paint, manage and probably several other things that I have not tried.
It seems that the only option is to restore the system to default if I want to get this working again. So during my research, I learned that the downgrade to an older version of Windows is free. I wanted to sort of go back to Windows XP from Vista 64 that accompanies this laptop since I got it. I have a Windows XP Pro installation disc that I bought for my desktop PC and all I would need is a free Microsoft activation key which told me they would provide decommissioning.
However, the support section driver and software for Windows XP here on the site Web of HP has rather limited resources compared to the options for my dv9700 Vista CTO. On the one hand, there is no graphics driver listed. I know I probably d/l anything directly form the nVidia site, but this is not the only driver XP or absent utility of the product support for my computer page. I guess I'll probably use just the recovery Vista DVD that I made when I got my laptop, if I decide I want to do this.
A F11 recovery that accesses the Recovery Manager in the laptop's recovery partition would be a good plan. When a Windows operating system beghins to exhibit behaviors such as yours is so it's just a matter of time before is no longer, it will start up in Windows.
I recommend that you create a CD to recover fees just to have the value.
It is actually faster and more reliable to perform the recovery of the Recovery Manager in the recovery partition from the wear of your DVD drive and recovery CD set since the purchase of your laptop.
Best regards

Device Manager does not display c or D drive.
The Windows Device Manager does not display the drives c or d. With File Explorer, they show and are easily accessible. What's wrong?
Hi Alberini,
You would actually use the Device Manager to determine which devices are installed on your computer, update driver software for your devices, check to see if hardware is working properly and change the hardware settings. You can also use Device Manager to update a driver that does not work properly or restore a driver with its previous version.
To view the files or the drive hard internal to your computer, would use you Windows Explorer.
I hope this helps!

Vista Home Premiun Device Manager does not display my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
I recently tried to use my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive and it did not work. It was working fine a few days previously but now... Nothing.
My first reaction was to open Windows Explorer, expand and look at computer. There was my C drive and the recovery Partition but no Opitical drive more.
Then I opened the Device Manager and saw that the CD was registered it is more as well?My question is
Vista automatically removes the CD-ROM drive in the list of Device Manager if there is a problem with the drive itself?
Or is there something that happened this suppression the CD-ROM in Device Manager list and it is not a problem with the drive itself?
I had a disc go bad before on a PC running Windows 98 and 2000, but the disc stayed in the Manager list but I'm pretty new to Vista and know things are very different. So before we get in panic Mode, I thought that it would be a good idea to ask where someone will know probably for sure.
Thanks in advance for clues

StephenHi dude
This problem is known to me it happened to me also
The problem is that you register Windows!A registry entry is corrupted and this is why the CD/DVD-ROM does not like I should.
So what to do.
First remove the driver from the Device Manager. Simply remove it.
Then access the registry and and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Reboot the laptop.
