Difference in my catalog of backup file size

Currently using PSE8 on pc platform.

Just out of curiosity, why is the "my catalog file" that references PES on the drive so much smaller local full backup catalog on an external drive?

The backup includes all your photos and the file catalog

  • Cannot start a catalog from a backup file

    Hello

Back up files from my iMac to an external hard drive, including all the photos and the Lightroom Catalog by using time machine.

And now I'm on my way with my MCBook Air, it seems I can't launch the catalog (Lightroom Catalog.Ircat) from the backup file on the disk hard ext, he says that "the catalog cannot be used because the parent folder"xxx"does not allow files to be created in the breast of this".

Wouldn't be because the original catalogue was in my iMac hard drive not in this backup ext hard drive? Does it really matter?

However, I can open the Preview.Irdata file catalog Lightroom in Lightroom and import them into the current Lightroom Catalog, that I created in my Macbook Air. When I export the file, the file size appears smaller than usual.

    So my questions are:

1 is there a way I can start the Catalog.Ircat with Lightroom file on the backup ext hard drive?

    2. If the answer is 'no' to the above question, will I create a new lightroom catalog in this backup (for my iMac) ext hard drive, and then import all the pictures once more?

    3. I found there is an option to "Import an another catalog" in Lightroom, it will work for my situation? He did not try as I worry I'll make a mess, and I guess if I can't start this catalogue in the disk hard ext, I am not able to import as well.

    3. the Preivew.Irdata file does not allow me to have the larger size of file to export is that correct?

    4. Finally, what is the suggestion to resolve all these long-term problem? Will I pass all (both from my iMac and Macbook Air) photos on a disk hard ext, and then export the current catalog to my Macbook Air on the same disk hard ext and import photos from my iMac in this catalogue (that is, a single catalog LR)?

Thank you for sharing your experience and your suggestion so that I can better manage the LR catalog and smoothly in the future.

    See you soon,.

    Chuen

    Hi Chuen,

It seems that the external hard drive does not write the changes on it and that's why the error that says "the catalog cannot be used because the parent folder"xxx"does not allow files to be created in the breast of this."

The error is not related to your original catalog being located on the hard drive in the Imac.

I suggest that you copy this file .lrcat and .lrdata from your local external hard drive to a location on your hard drive and try to launch it from there.

If this does not work, then you can go for the option to create a new catalog and 'Import from another catalogue'

Let us know if this is useful or if you need additional assistance.

    Kind regards

  • The file size of backup C drive

    Hello

Running Server 2008 R2 I noticed that there is a huge difference in the size of the backup of the C drive. The only thing on the disc is the installation of the OS with standard windows services. Hourly snapshots do he goes from 30 MB to 11FR in size.

I'm just curious to know which would cause the huge difference in file size and if there is anyway to keep this to a minimum. Drive C arouses large sets of our readers of data backup.

    Any idea is appreciated.

  • Why the change in file size is not a difference in how I can put on a cd?

I'm trying to burn audio files to a disc that will play in a cd player.  The size of the files is not that big.  If I just dropped everything on the disk in the form of data files, they would be easily fits on the drive with plenty of room to spare.  BUT when I go through Windows Media Player or I-Tunes to make the drive, it takes 5 discs to fit everything on.  I changed the WMA files into MP3 files, but it remains the same.  Then, I used Windows Media Player to convert the files to a file size reduced.  But it seems not to matter.  There are still 5 discs.

There is obviously something that I don't understand the difference in burning data instead of audio files and the size of the file.  I'd appreciate any help I could get.  Thank you!

If you notice on your empty CD there are two limitations...
for example I have one here that says... 80 MIN / 700 MB...
(this means time 'or' file size... not both)

If you create a... Audio / music CD... (one that will play in)
most CD players)... the limits are dictated by the duration.
If you see the directory on an Audio CD / music you will be
Notice the files have extensions of the ADC (this is the result
regardless of the format of the source files).

If you create a data CD... for example a MP3 cd which will be
play in a player compatible with MP3 files... the limits
are dictated by the size of the file.

Then you have a player that is MP3... you could
create a data CD with a lot of files unlike Audio
CD and strictly limited by the total duration of the files.

The following article might be worth the drive... it offers information
on the creation of data and Audio CD.

  • Reduce the size of my backup file.

Backing up files on my computer seems too large. I have Windows 7 and it has 298 GB in D drive and at the present time, there are 53 GB free.  The system tells me that requiere 244 Go back up, which seems excessively high.  I went through and deleted the old back ups. and the current D: file shows that it is divided into 3 things - Datat file backups: 81 GB, System image 163GB & other files 111 GB.  Any ideas how to reduce the size of the back up required?

1 have had modifications made to your computer before the problem occurred?

    2. do you get any error code or error message when you try to perform the action?

Archive old files to backup in ZIP files.

You can use Zip compressed Windows to compress backup files to save disk space, or you can perform a customized Windows backup.

You can also check the following links and check if that helps.

  • The backup files are smaller in size after ACS ACS 5.2 to 5.3

After ACS upgrade from 5.2 to 5.3 we have noticed that the backup files are significantly smaller in size. They were for example before the upgrade:

    285633099 2011-10-23 22:01 Meduza-ACS-111023 - 2200.tar.gpg

    285809254 2011-10-24 22:01 Meduza-ACS-111024 - 2200.tar.gpg

    And after the upgrade:

    124234429 2011-10-25 22:00 Meduza-ACS-111025 - 2200.tar.gpg

    124234425 2011-10-26 22:00 Meduza-ACS-111026 - 2200.tar.gpg

    What could cause this behavior?

How can we be sure if the backup files have been regular after the upgrade?

So what I wrote is true, but does not apply in your case

I think that there are also a few corrections that reduce the size of the transactions table. GST files relate to records associated with configuration changes and manage notification of these secondary changes, and run-time components. Transactions are stored in the configuration database, but contain no configuration data.

5.2 what they have not well cleaned and it has improved to the point 5.3.

    Impossible to find all the CDETS at the moment, but here's an example;

As you can see it before the upgrade that the size of your backup file has been more and once the size of constant upgrade

I think you should be good. Only way to confirm 100% is to restore data

He has no such limit, and in fact some users in this domain and other forums report catalogues over 1/2 million pictures works well.

The idea to create multiple catalogs because you don't want to get too big catalog file size is a bad idea that you should never think of it again.

  • Differences in file size

    Two questions...

    1. I get the following warning...

    2.jpg

I think that a file larger than 2 GB TIFF file does not any quality problem in LR - workflow of the PS... correct?

It's just in connection with certain third-party programs, as says the warning box.

    2. this file... a uncompressed TIFF file... it is 1 GB inside the PS and it is 2.21 GB in the system folder.

    Whence this difference?

    Thank you...

Photoshop is not a file editor it publishes documents of any size that you see in Photoshop is not a file size.  Size watch Photoshop are things like pixels and memory, use not size of the file.

  • limit file size exceeds in cold backup

    Hi all

I use oracle 10g database (10.2.0.1.0) in Red hat Enterprise Linux 5 OS.

While taking cold backup on external support, I got error,
    "Exceed the file size limit."
Actual size of the file is 9 GB. but it will take only 4 GB rest. 5Gb, no error saved and giving,

How I can fix this error.

  • Backup file that it changes more small PDF type file size point and vertical scaling

I have an Adobe Illustrator CS6 document with body copy using 6.5 PT. Neue Helvetica LT STD - Bold Condensed & Light Condensed.

After you save the file as a PDF in Illustrator by using the [smallest file size] parameter, closing and opening of the newly saved in Illustrator - PDF text of 6.5 PT is now 5.53 PT with a vertical scaling of 117.65%.

This PDF file is for purposes of customer review - on the screen or laser print - not for reproduction. We try to keep the file size as small as possible to make the download and attachments manageable.

In this case, my client opens the PDF file in Illustrator to check the sizes of text for legal and regulatory purposes.

If I record the same Illustrator file to PDF using other parameters as [high quality Print], the size of the text is unchanged.

I was able to repeat the question using Helvetica LT Std instead of Helvetica Neue LT Std.

I have attached a few screenshots for reference.

    Screenshot Source Illustrator

    illustrator_source.png

    Acrobat PDF screenshot

    acrobat_pdf.png

I found this old net 2011 where someone had the same problem - but has never been resolved:

    http://forums.Adobe.com/thread/915047

well I was able to recreate the issue with the exact same font and numbers - matched both of your screenshots.

To summarize "preserve Illustrator editing capabilities.

He seems less to do with the "smallest file size" preset as it does with the box "preserve Illustrator editing capabilities". If you click on that even with the smallest size of selected file, you should not have the question - BUT you will have a much larger file (especially if there is high-resolution images).

Now, with the default size"small file" read PDF in Acrobat it was always pulling up to 6.5 not reducing the size. Opening the rear PDF file in AI causes problems. I trying to reinterpret the changes made to the police (follow-up etc.) but since "Keep editing functions Illustraor" is not checked, it is basically guessing as to what he must do to match like the appearance of the font in the PDF file. Yes police is smaller but the extra vertical scale of the changes that it is visually a game tight.

So if you save a PDF file without editing functions of checked you will have some funky things happen if you open this PDF back in artificial intelligence ('high quality' preset editing a checked).

If your client wants to open in artificial intelligence, you will have to give them a larger file with Ia editing capabilities. To try a free Dropbox account or Hightail account.

  • TIFF image file size difference

Hi all, I have created a bitmap, mono, CA. 400px square.

    Then save the file.

If I go to "get info" (I'm on an Apple Mac), it indicates that the file size is 97 k.

If I open the file in P'shop (CS5.5) and go to "Image size", it says that the file is 19.2 k.

Anyone know why I get two different file formats?

    Thank you, PR

I'm sure that the file TIFF and Photoshop "Image size" are the two 19KO by chance. The "Image size" is the number of bytes consumed by the pixel data uncompressed. A TIFF file must contain a header, so the data in the image file will be compressed, then the file header will bring the total size of the file 19 KB.

Photoshop incorporates metadata TIFF that your client probably didn't need. Preview of your Mac app allows you to reduce the size of TIFF:

In Photoshop, copy the image to the Clipboard.

Preview, do "file > new from Clipboard" followed by Save in TIFF format and compression enabled.

(Do not open the TIFF saved with preview and then re - Photoshop Save as useless information will be maintained. Use the Clipboard).

My Outlook pst data source personal folders file using 2.4 GB.  The backup file (by using the backup tool) uses 5.4 GB.  Why the difference?  I back up all my data on a hard drive to FAT 32 format, which will not accept a file greater than 4 GB, so I'm not able to save Outlook backup file given its current size.
