Dimension E510: Power supply, video cards and fans...

Howdy Dell Community!

About 2 years ago I bought a Dell Dimension E510 desktop to game and machinima. It has served me pretty well until about a week ago lightning hit a tree outside my window while I tried to shut down my system. The storm came pretty quick and I didn't know that it was there only a rumble of Thunder, so I started to stop, but it was too late: smileysad:. The motherboard was virtually unusable. I took it to a local computer repair shop and the machine lights up and works just fine except for the card NETWORK does not work on the map AND if you did a RAM test that it would fail, but not one stick of RAM could be found with a problem. They ordered a replacement for my Dell motherboard.

So I was thinking the other day, 'now would be a great time to make updates!". I put a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda HARD drive to replace the old 80 GB Hitachi. I also thought to improve cooling, the power supply and the video card. I have a lot of questions so here Let's go!

(1) can I replace the fan inside the shrowd of cpu with a spare fan fan, and if so what are the dimensions of the fan?

(2) can / should I strap in a 80 mm fan / 120 mm at the rear of the case to increase the flow of air from the case?

(3) I heard that put a spare PSU is FRY your motherboard. I don't want that, but Dell doesn't provide upgrades of power supply (isn't that Nice of them?). A power PC Power & Cooling 500W Dell will work with the motherboard and the case?

(4) after installing a new power supply, something like an ATI Radeon HD 3870 would work well? (compatibility with the motherboard)

(5) I read something about being owner or something in this sense (like my e510) Dell systems. What is c?

Well, that's all for now. I hope that there will can help me!
Thanks for your time.

  • Compaq Presario 2034NX. N power supply video card update

I have a Compaq Presario 2034NX and want to get an upgrade of the installed video card (for a HDMI output, etc.).  I know that I have to spend my diet as well, for new power requirements.

I am interested in (after-sales) part 3 parts, not "genuine HP/Compaq", to save costs on this box of 7 year and longer.

    (A) what version of PCI-Express is the slot on the MBoard?

    (B) what form of power factor should be purchased for?  ATX?  12V?

    (C) is there a special condition of type MOE for video work in Compaq Presario PCI-Express slot card, or will more 3rd party (after-sales) cards work?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Is the Compaq Presario PC?  If Yes, then put a standard size ATX power supply will work as well as several video cards PCI-E x 16.

Most of NVIDIA video cards require a minimum of a 300 Watt power supply.  Most of ATI video cards require a power supply of + 400 watt mimium.

1 HP didn't post the version of PCI-E slot, but I suspect 1.x. It should support most of the cards PCI-E 2.0 with a few exceptions.

    2. a stand size ATX power supply will fit (5.5x3.4x5.9).

    3. the video card chosen must be associated with a power supply to support its power requirements.

How much budget do you see for the video card and the power suppy.  You have special requirements of video connection? (HDMI, DVI, VGA)  What applications are you planning to use with the new video card?

Open your PC and a few measurement in parallel with the PCI-E x 16 slot to see how long of a video card will fit. The adjacent slot on the PCI-E x 16 slot must be vacant if a larger video card is being considered. Look at the motherboard, and ensures that the components on the motherboard will not interfere with the installation of the video card.

  • Upgrading a p6510f Pavilion with a new power supply, graphics card and RAM work?

Well, here's the deal that I go back to Japan for about 3 months and during this time I will borrow my laptop Cousins (in Exchange for my office) for Skype etc.. No problem their the thing is that he is a player and this p6510f has a few bad specifications when it comes to this, so I thought that I could let him borrow some cake rather than dirt, if you catch my drift ha... As well, when I get back gamer I ~ ('voice of Yoda"aka How Japanese works...)

So I looked on Newegg / Amazon read comments and planned my purchase but the question is can this case and the Board of Directors manage what I use? lazy to measure everything out / busy.

So first thing, I would like to replace:

Replace the 2 x 2 GB ram cards default with:

    4 x Corsair blue Vengeance 4 GB (2 X 4 GB) 1600 mHz PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM of 240 pins

For a total of ram 16 GB with my x 64 bit PC of course

Replacing power 250w with an overkill rather one but it is the same price as a 550w then why not eh? After all the future upgrade/ability to use it in future builds?

1 x Corsair Enthusiast Series 650 watts 80 Plus Bronze Certified Power Supply Compatible with Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and AMD platforms

For the graphics card + overclocking.

Finally no more ATI integrated BS... Please for the love of the creator (will it work?)

    1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 580 1536 MB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini-HDMI SLI

If my PC can adapt to this card, and it works with power above that will make me happy enough. (Regarding the cooling if it becomes a problem, I can upgrade fans me but first comes this material.)

I checked the slot for graphics card, RAM and power supply power and it seems to me that this will work out I want just a professional opinion...

    Hello

According to Corsair, the DIMMs that you chose is detected only at 1600 mhz, which is not in the specifications published by HP.

You can roll the dice on the DIMMs that you chose, but I wouldn't recommend that buy you them until you contact Corsair and get a confirmation.  Computers HP can be very finicky with DIMMs, especially if you try to mix them with other DIMM modules.  If you do buy these bars and want to be them mixed with the existing DIMMs, then make sure the timings of latency CASE corresponding information validated HP. Also mix DIMM sizes will cause the memory function in unbalanced mode that adversely affect the performance of the memory.

You should be able to make your own decision on whether to roll the dice.

  • Please help me with the video card and power supply issues!

Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I'll try and do a short explanation, but I can't promise anything. I bought an a6620f Pavilion about 2 months ago I didn't know that you had to purchase a special hardware in order to play video games. In any case, I bought about 300.00 worth of new video games and none of them works. they say because of my video card. Then try to buy a new video card and it won't work because I only have a 250 watt power supply. I spoke with a hp technician before you buy a PSU and I was told that my motherboard was only designed to use a 300 watt max power I tried to buy one at best buy and the clerk said 4500 is the smallest they sell. and I need at least a 400 Watt or powerrsupply to make the new video card with a value of buyiong. My questuion is what can I do if I can't buy one more big power supply how can I install a new video casrd? Please help me I'm lost

    Hi chefinomaha,

Sorry to hear about your frustration. Here's some good news.

I think you have been misinformed or there was a communication error. Your motherboard should not be limited to the only 300W. I don't know with certainty how high you can go in watts, but you can go higher and should go higher, if you add a video card.

The important thing is to get the right kind of diet that fits your connectors.

    Here's your motherboard page.

Here is a document with step-by-step instructions and video for adding a video card.

Here is a document with the video to replace the power supply.

  • Upgrading the video card and, potentially, processor HD 5870 Dell XPS 435 t/9000

So basically I try to update my video card and possibly my processor a little later, to compete with the next gen game. My specs are AMD HD 5870, intel i7 920, 9 GB RAM, with a PSU 475W. I'm currently looking this R9 x 270. He apparently has the same connection to its use and power than my HD 5870 PIN. Will this work with my computer/motherboard? Can someone confirm this for me? Also looking at this 7950. I wouldn't mind switching to a core of 8 CPUS too if my supply of power/mobo will allow it. in any case, here are links to the 2 video cards in that I was watching. http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814150686 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202026 much appreciated on any help with suggestions on a CPU/GFX card =)

Should be good.  I would like to watch one of these four HERE.

  • Would like a recommendation on a video card and Psu - Hp Pavilion a6827c

I'm willing to spend about $ 150-200 on a video card and power supply (if I need it). I could get a few recommendations.  Would appreciate any advice!

RJ, here is a link to the pages "Product card" for your computer:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_rule=16113&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3942022

Your power supply unit (PSU) is 300W.  A 400W 600W PSU in would you buy a much better card.

Here are two links to the PSU that I recommend:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817139008

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817341001

I actually had the GXS OCZ 600W.  The Corsair is also highly recommended in the forum.

Now for a video card.  The location on your motherboard is PCIEX16.  You can use PCIEX6 2.0 as well.  It is backward compatible.  However, you will pay a little more and will not actually benefit from improvements.

The brands I recommend are XFX, BFG, EVGA, Sapphire, PNY and Diamond, in that order.  I actually have two XFX cards; GeForce 7900GTX 512 MB (do not use) and ATI 4870 XXX 1 GB.

Here is a link to the Web of Newegg site:

    http://www.Newegg.com/store/subcategory.aspx?subcategory=48&name=desktop-graphics-video-cards

To the left of the page, there is a list of manufacturers.  By clicking on "More" will extend from the list.  See the section 'Customer reviews' and 'Technical data' to find one that meets your needs.  Then, post the link to the card/s that you like and we'll help you choose a.  It is the best way to learn what you need to know.  Much better that we choose one for you and post the link.

  • New video card and memory for my laptop (1410-604)

    Hello

I think of a new video card and an extra memory...
What possibilities I have to upgrade my laptop (Satellite 1410-604).

I checked my computer technical description:
I think I can add an extra 256 MB SDRAM. But what video card?

    Hello guys

It s not possible to update the graphics card. You can't compare the desktop with a laptop PC. The graphics card on the laptop is a small chip that attaches to the motherboard.

On the upgrade memory: you can upgrade the memory maximum. 512 MB (2x256MB). There are 2 slots available and these modules of memory are supported:
    PC2100 128 MB (PA3126U - 1 M 12)
    PC2100 256 MB (PA3127U - 1 M 25)

    Hello

I have a problem of Age of Empires 2 running on my new computer. Keeps displaying the following error message: "cannot initialize the graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw. "Someone at - it solutions to this? I have already visited many forums and trying different solutions; None of them helped.

Tried solutions: change the compatibility and as an administrator, switching to 16-bit color, turn off my graphics card, execution of the extension "nostartup" of the game, looking for old patches from Microsoft (which most are now unavailable due to the game being so old). I KNOW that others have been able to get this game to work on the Windows 7 operating system, but with a few other quirks and I KNOW my video card and driver are more than capable of handling this game. Any suggestions?

I had the above problem with AOEII:Age of the Kings. My brief spec is Windows 7 Ultimate edition (SP1) and a card nVidia 8600 GT. I did the following (make sure you reboot after each installation):

Make sure that you are running the latest patch of AOEII:AOK (2. 0 a):

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=35

Download and install the latest version of DirectX:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=5264

Download and install the latest nVidia Driver suite. I left the autodetect my card software and reset all my default settings. I also installed the full software suite:

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Finally, right click on the shortcut of AOE and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the following:

-Run this program in compatibility mode - choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (!) NOT 3!)
    -Disable visual themes
-Disable the Composition of the Bureau
-Run this program as an administrator

One of the above options maybe work on its own, but that's what I had to do to make it work and I tested it after each step.

    Good luck!

  • Problems with the video card and sound card on Toshiba model #PSLCOU - 02701G

I bought a new laptop in 2009, and it is a Toshiba, model #PSLCOU - 02701G. After about three months the video card and the sound began to spoil. It's what he does, I can go on U-tube or any web site that has a video to watch like CNN news, etc. What it does is it starts to play and the video and the sound is good and he paused for a few seconds and starts again, new breaks and pauses, starts, pauses, starts. He does it all the time, and I was wondering if you all have any idea whats going on? Help? Help?

It really sucks when you try to watch the news. Also, I put a CD or DVD into the laptop and it works perfectly. I can watch any DVD or listen to a GREAT Cd.

How is your network connection?  Sometimes, the system needs to create a cache to store the downloaded information and if the download is not pass quickly enough the system will freeze while wiaiting for download to catch up - not a problem with your sound cards and video, but with the speed of Connection on the website or on the network itself (or your network equipment).  This looks like the case if the DVD and the CD's works fine.  Check your internet connection and try to download the video pages to see if the problem is with all the downloads, or only those on a site.  You can contact your ISP and have them help check you connection and settings and the modem for problems or changes, you can do to improve things. Sometimes happens to me as well in the internet connection runs slower than normal and there is nothing that I can do but wait to accelerate - and it's frustrating.

You can get in trouble with your device drivers.  Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get the drivers (and you need you to do all you have time to do, but at least the network card, sound card and video card - they can help way beyond simply solve this problem), get the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Windows blocked key after installing a new video card and hard drive.

I got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit edition since the early release, purchased through Newegg. Since then, I used it on my desktop, which I update regularly. I changed the hard drives, processors and cards video several times and reactivated without a problem, but this last Friday, I installed a new video card and the DSS, and when I went to activate windows told me that my key was blocked without any explanation. I can only assume that this is because I changed my hardware configuration. My copy of windows remained only on this computer over the years. Here are the results of MGADiag running on my system.

If there is any question about the legitimacy of my copy, I have the DVD, booklet, cases, cardboard sleeve he shipped initially and purchase of invoices from Newegg on the spot.

  • video card and the black screen problems.

Hello world! My desk top compaq presario sr1411nx don't seem to support a video card, I've recently tried

to install. I put the card in one of the three open slots connected to the motherboard, and it seems to fit very well.

The operating system I have is a Microsoft Windows XP Edition family version 2002 service pack 3, Celeron (R) CPU 2.80 ghz, 248 MB of ram.

The graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1300PCI 256 MB. After I installed the card the following continues to happen.

I turn the hard drive and follow on. The windows start menu back to the top.

A message box appears telling me to close all programs. Restart the computer if the installation of the video card

    can be updated and completed.

I then, restart the computer. After that I'm doing it just a black screen and white pointer popup. As I move the mouse

There is no beep sounds. Browser menu and start the internet windows does not load upward.

I then remove the video card and restart the computer and everything works fine.

Question: What could be the cause, and I can fix it?

    Thank you

    Frogman

Try to go into the cmos setup in the bios and see if there is any option to disable the onboard video as memory goes against zero or as allowing the pci. If not try to change the graphics card to the other pci slot

  • Dell Latitude Power Supply/load - smoke and sparks

The power supply for my Dell Latitude began to smoke and then sparks started the swing of it.  Fortunately I managed to unplug unit before that my laptop has been damaged or a serious fire started.

What is the Dell process to deal with such incidents?

Picture of the power supply is included, and it is about 3 years old.

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9340f replacement video card and power supply

    Hello

I bought my HP Pavilion Elite at Best Buy m9340f in 2009 and brought it to the Venezuela where I live now.

My video card, started making the noise of the typical fan geforce 9500gs can do. The temperature of the gpu is very high (from 73 ° c without playing or watching videos!), and I'id like to replace it as soon as possible before my material fails completely.

But the power supply 350w, to replace any video card decent needed to change my diet too. I have not the slightest idea of what type of power supply should I buy, and if I should replace the case too. My intention is to keep my cpu, my mother, my hard drive and my ram (purchase of a new system to the Venezuela is out of the question because of the barbarian prices in this country).

Then to take the questions in order, I'll here:

-I want another video card (geforce 9500gs is known for his failure, so I want to upgrade to a more powerful card)

-To do this, I need another power supply, so I need recommendations on the provision of market models which CORRESPOND to my HP Pavilion Elite m9340f or

-replace also the case: what kind of business should I need that corresponds to the motherboard of benicia

    Thanks in advance

The information below was previously published by Big_Dave in response to several other posters about their questions about GPU upgrades. Prices shown are in U.S. dollars and for American retailers.

Your PC has a 350 Watt PSU if below video cards will work:

    $50--->NVIDIA GT 430 9.6 Gbps - single slot width

    $65--->NVIDIA GT 520 8 Gbps - single slot width

    $80--->NVIDIA GT 440 25.6 GB/s - single slot width

$130-->NVIDIA GT 545 43 Gbps - location single width - could be hard to find but perhaps only in the store

$110-->NVIDIA GT 240 1 GB DDR5. 54.4 GB/s - single slot width. This card does not support DirectX 11 which is eventually used in some of the latest PC games but it's a great performer.

Review the performance of NVIDIA specifications. Look at the specifications of strip memory bandwidth and level of DirectX support.

I normally don't recommend video cards AMD for PC with a 350 Watt power supply as AMD provides 400 watts or more for most of its video cards.
