No! MSE does not include a firewall and you still need one.

  • [Moved] Windows Firewall 8

As the native firewall application in Windows is poor, I used 3 third-party solutions for many years. Now that I am on Windows 8, one big annoyance is that firewall Windows is activated at startup, even if to be OFF.  Whenever I reboot, I have to go and turn it off because it interferes with firewalls superior running manually.

Firewall Windows makes my netBIOS visible to others, and also some service ports are marked as hidden, but not invisible. I don't want my system to be seen by others and the Windows Firewall is simply not enough good.

How do I permanently disable it in Windows, except by checking the usual boxes?

Update: everything is sorted now after I installed a 3rd party firewall and antivirus. I use two antivirus programs, which is ClamAV for Windows or ClamWin.  It is not a real-time scanner but it is excellent on the scheduled scans, analysis also send them.

The other firewall + antivirus will not be disclosed here, but suffice it to say that all my service ports are now in full STEALTH mode, it has disabled Windows Firewall and I'm a happy man at the moment.

This should be a year of learning for us all, as it is commonly accepted that the Windows Firewall is good enough. Turned out to be incorrect.

  • If you install Oracle 11 g XE with active windows firewall APEX is dead

My first installation of Oracle 11g XE was carried out with the active windows firewall.
The database configuration was completed in bad condition because post install scripts did not stand because port 1521 has been locked.
You got the "Get Started" link did not stand ok and browser got an error page.

Allways install Oracle database with the non-active windows firewall.

You can read in the documentation, installation...

    2.1.2 the Windows Firewall configuration

If you plan to install Oracle Database XE on a computer running the Windows Firewall, which was introduced in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, and then connect from another computer, verify that the firewall has not been configured to block all communication between the following inbound ports. These ports are the default ports that users Oracle Database XE.

    1521: oracle database listener
2030: oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server
    8080: Transaction oracle HTTP Server

but that apply to connect from another computer at your facility, not the installation process.
I think that the documentation must contain "disable windows firewall before you try to install.
Allways install Oracle database with the non-active windows firewall.

Or add the listener and apex port numbers to the list of exceptions.

  • I run 10 64-bit Windows and I have used iTunes for years. iTunes installs OK, I disable Norton Firewall during installation. iTunes starts OK, but when I try to access the store down ¾ of the page turns black

I run 10 64-bit Windows and I have used iTunes for years. iTunes installs OK, I disable Norton Firewall during installation. iTunes starts OK, but when I try to access the store down ¾ of the page turns black, the upper band has Taylor Swift and a few small icons to the bottom of the page. If I type Perry Como, in the search box, the page does not change.

lysdexic01, I know almost exactly what you describe on my screen of iTunes Store recently updated for Windows 7 64-bit. Only difference is that the icons in the black box are invisible until I move the mouse above them, their location by trial and error. Once activated, the icon remains visible. Each found icon flickers at first, but stops flashing if I pass the mouse over it.

I think that the store is now functional and useless for those of us experiencing this problem. Other users have reported that their iTunes store screen flickers since they updated iTunes to the latest version, but most did not mention the area big black screen that you and I see.

So far, Apple seems not to believe that there is a problem with the software to update iTunes. It is therefore important that users continue to report these problems to Apple that there are enough complaints for attention even during a week of office party.

  • How can I disable the firewall of windows for FPGA

I tried to compile an FPGA vi. Towards the end of compilation, asked me if I wanted to disable something in the windows firewall (probably to allow for communication between my computer and my PXI-7854R). At the time, I had no administrative privilege and couldn't do anything but cancel this request. Of course, nothing that I compiles now runs. How to get back to the point where I can disable the firewall?

  • Disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail and problems with the Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows updates.

Original title: Windows Live Hotmail only opens a new window links e-mail composition!

I recently put my Windows Live Hotmail account to my default e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP SP3 System. Unfortunately, whenever I click on a link to e-mail on a Web page to open a new message, Hotmail tells me, "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with Hotmail right now", and a new/compose message window does not open. I disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail, which fixed the problem. However, when I went to do a manual update of Windows, I am nailed with a Trojan horse! Apparently, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials have been affected by turning off HTTPS in Hotmail! It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now. If anyone can give me a solution (in simple terms), I would appreciate it!

    Thank you

    Hi Ryan,

How to test the firewall to see if it is or it is not working properly?

    This problem has been resolved.

The MSE has not recognized that the windows firewall was conducted.

This problem has been resolved by running McAfee software removal followed by uninstallation tool and relocation of MSE.

After reinstallation, I rebooted and the updated definitions.  He reported no problems with the Windows Firewall or the absence of firewall or at risk.

I ran a full scan of MSE and we found no malware.

For others who may have the MSE/firewall problem run followed by appropriate software removal tool to uninstall and reinstallation of MSE.  It takes time, but it worked.
