Disconnect Ethernet cable internet on Macbook

Just installed a Netgear AC1200 Wireless Modem Router.

We have a PC, a Surface and a Macbook Pro.

WiFi works well on all of these devices.

Wired is very good with the PC, but when connected to a Mac to another room (by ethernet USB adapter), the internet connection to the Mac becomes invalid after a short while (about 10 to 20 seconds).

This cable has worked well with our old Belkin modem just Twitter.com.

Have you tried cycling the modem, cycling Mac, disable WiFi on Mac, by pressing the wireless button on the modem.

Is this a problem switching? It seems that as soon as the Mac sees the cable it disconnects from the network.

Great to have WiFi working but we bought this new modem to be able to easily turn off the WiFi and just use the cable connections when we are in our office.

I'm certainly not gifted technically, so hope there is something fairly simple to do. Would appreciate some advice on how to solve this problem.

Thanks for your help Darren. Problem is now solved. Has been a fortuitous error in a single link cable.
