Disk recognized as usb flash external hard drive

I have an old Samsung SP0411N IDE internal hard drive, I am trying to use as an external hard drive with a SATA & IDE adapter USB & eSATA Conceptronic csatai23u. Windows XP with Service Pack 3 detects the etc. of Sata to usb etc, but instead to detect the hard drive, it detects a usb mass storage, which according to me, that means a usb flash key. The connection has worked before, but I don't know how to make it work again. The last time it worked Windows says that it has detected a "Samsung SP0411N disk drive". The device does not show in my PC.

Hi EduardoGB,

-Are the other devices is recognized without any problems?

See the section "my hard drive connected to the CSATAi23U is not detected by my computer" from the link below:

Windows 7 Compatibility Center is not the end of everything for the compatibility of the products.  It's a jump-off point.  If the manufacturer of the product says that it is not supported on a given OS - they overshadow everything else.

    My suggestion:

Uninstall all software you installed for LaCie by the past.  Reset.

Download the latest version of the software button from here:

  • HP ProBook 450 G: drive recovery on external hard drive

    Hello!

    I had a few questions.

I have a HP ProBook G2 450 with Windows 8.1 now, I wanted to create a disk recovery, but on an external hard drive. Is it so that it is not possible to put it on an external hard drive? When I try to make a recovery it says I should use one with at least 16 GB USB Flash drive. So this means that I could not even do a DVD recovery disc?

And I would also know, if I put teaching 10 Windows (as our University offers), is possible later use the 8.1 Windows recovery disc to return to 8.1?

    Eager to help!

    Marta

    Hello

Please use a few DVDs or good USB. The USB will be write-protected therfore no point to use the external HARD drive because you will not be able to use your external HARD drive, only read. Normally, you have 2 options: use of DVD or USB.

Yes, you can use recovery media to go back to your orginal Windows 8.1.

Note: you can create recovery media once.

    Kind regards.

  • How to make Toshiba USB 250 GB HARD drive read-only?

    Hello

I just plug a Toshiba USB 250g external hard drive to replace all the sticks of memory, I've been using.

I'll use this external hard drive to copy files to other computers and I would like to know how to make the drive read-only.

Moreover, all the other tips to protect the disc would be extremely welcome.

I use a Dell with Windows 7 laptop.

    Thank you very much

    Dougal

I don't know what HARD drive you have exactly, but I know that Toshiba offers a software protection with external hard drives.
Did you check manuals? Is something like that provided with your HARD drive?

Maybe you need to use some third party software part for the protection of files on the HARD drive. Google all over the place.

  • External hard drive problems - we have most of the files to get a message "access denied."

USB connected external hard drive was used with XP.  For a small period of time, we had to connect to a machine from W7.  Now that we are back to the XP machine, we have most of the files to get a message "access denied."  How we fix the problem.  The files are images, videos or music.

    Try this,

    Start in safe mode.
Open your computer and right click on your external hard drive.
    Go to properties.
    Click Security.
Click on Edit under a quote "to change permissions, click on change."
    Click on Add.
Type in "everyone" in the white box.
Then check in the box "total control".
    Press OK.

This makes the hard drive usable by everyone (all users and different computers)

    I hope this helps.

  • I have a WD external hard drive that I used for a while and all of a sudden I can't.

The device is a USB connected external hard drive. I used it on a regular basis until today. When I connect it it seems to connect (it lights up), and when he did it before she would open a window that would ask if I wanted to open and examine its contents. It does not now. When I go to Start computer it is no longer present upward with the other HD etc. I took it on another computer and it worked fine. I wonder if a driver does not work?

Restore points should be back fairly in time, if you have enabled the restoration of the system.

Read the information contained in the links I provided. about how to use system restore.

You do not accept the available Restore Point.

  • Mobile external hard drive to virtual machine

Due to lack of space on my laptop, I want to move my existing virtual machine to a new drive. Is there documentation for it? I could not find. If not, could someone quickly walk me through the process?

    Thank you

This requires that you use a normal virtual machine, not a training based a Camp.

    1. Make sure that the virtual machine fits on your external drive. Specifically, some file systems such as fat cannot process large files, so if you want to use one of those, your virtual machine must use a formatted disk split. If the external hard drive is formatted in HFS +, you don't have to worry about this step

    2. Make sure that merger and your virtual machine of interest is not running. Never leave a VM under Fusion.

    3. Use the Finder to copy the VM on your external drive.

  • To install the new eSATA / SATA to USB 2.0 hard drive in an external enclosure but the computer does not recognize the drive in disk management

I have an old computer with installed Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and 3.  I bought a new hard drive and also a new external hard drive for her case.  I have correctly installed the hard drive inside the enclosure, and I think that I have installed correctly (in the motherboard SATA port) eSATA port, according to the manufacturer's instructions.  I plugged everything... first eSATA, then power and power switch.  I restarted the computer, and I chose to analyze disks in disk management.  However, the new drive is not recognized.  The SATA port on the motherboard could not work or did I buy the bad, perhaps, hard drive enclosure for my system?  Or something related to the software?  Thank you.

    Hi Donnadream,

Connect the hard drive to another port and check if that makes a difference

Step 1: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below, which deals with a similar question

A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB, an Apple iPod flash drive or an external hard disk drive

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/925196

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/322756/

Step 2: Download and install the latest drivers from the chipset of the computer or the manufacturer of the motherboard and check

Step 3: Hard disk can be turned off in the BIOS; You may want to enable

Important: Change BIOS (Basic input output system) /semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

If the problem persists, it is a hardware problem, contact the manufacturer of the hard drive for a more specialized help

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

    2. that you get an error message while you connect the external hard drive?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to connect the hard drive to a different USB port or try to connect the hard drive in another computer and check that the problem persists.

Method 2: Try running the Fixit tool from the link below.

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/hardware_device_problems

Method 3: If the previous step fails, check if the hard drive is detected in disk management.

    To open disk management

    (a) from the start menu, click Run.

    (b) in the Open box, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

Method 4: Also try to follow the steps from the link below.
