  I do not speak for Microsoft. However, I saw many times when working with clients in your situation with regard to the reactivation of windows because of the failure of a component. They are not, however, responsible for providing you with a windows disc that should be provided by your computer manufacturer. However, if I were you, I would ask to borrow a disc of windows of a friend or a neighbour then contact Microsoft for activation, making sure to explain the circumstances surrounding the re-setup.

• Z240: Need Windows 7 activation product key

  I am running Linux on a workstation Z240. I want to use the Windows supplied with this workstation license to run Windows 7 on a virtual machine inside my host Linux OS. I have over the content of the original hard drive. Unlike a laptop, it doesn't seem to be a sticker indicating the product key of Windows that I need for activation. I read there may be a digital product key in the BIOS, but I searched the menus without finding.

  I wrote what I thought, it was the Windows product key before you erase the hard drive, but it turns out be the ID of the product instead.

  Any ideas?

  I'll answer my own question. It seems that with Windows 7, it can be done. Even if I take an activated Windows disk image and run it on a virtual machine, Windows 7 recognizes that the hardware has changed and that it is a non-active state.

  I also tried to save the key product for the BIOS and restore it on the copy of the VM, but activation does not always work.

  I recently installed a new hard drive in my laptop. The laptop is an Acer and still has the Vista Home Premium COST below label, which was used to reinstall Windows.

  When I turn on my computer, I get a message saying that I need to activate windows before I can use my computer.

  I first tried to use online activation, but it does not - it asks me to type a different product key. But I only have one.
  Then I tried to use the automated phone system and was asked a support person. This person told me my product key had been locked, but she didn't know why, so I was then redirected to a representative of Genuine Advantage. I was talking to this person for about 15 minutes trying to get my product activated, but we had problems understanding eachother and he said that because I could not connect to windows (I can't get with reduced functionality) that he couldn't help me and that I would need to call 1800-936-5700.
  So, I tried calling that number who gave me, but when I call, I get a message saying that the number is not available and I should check to see if it is correct (perhaps the number is not available in Australia, I don't know).
  Then, a few days ago, I filled out an online assistance request that says take 1 day working to meet, but never heard talking back. :(

  Now I'm stuck with nowhere to where to go, then someone could please give me an idea how I can get my active Windows and go back to using my laptop.

  After that several attempts to fresh install installed Windows 8 operating system application for Activation of Windows. BIOS shows no product key. Hkey\localmachine shows noting as well. IM at the end. It is a XPS14

  following in the footsteps of the link worked. The path to reinstall windows is different then the one I used. This path used real stored partition recovery software.

  I've had this computer for a while. Several years ago, a friend of mine asked me if I would like to install windows 7 Professional at half price because he pre-ordered 2 copies at half price. I was running Vista and bought from him. I have no time to this address until today and I keep re - enter the product key and get the error Code 0xC004C008 message that says that my product key is not valid. Until that time, Windows update has installed more than 100 updates without problem. What can I do? I bought this in good faith and the product key worked before, whenever it was necessary.

  I uninstalled windows 7 to install an evaluation version of windows 8. The 90 days are up and copy Windows 8 has expired.   I bought a Windows 7 Ultimate provide product key, it worked fine until I changed my internet service and I have Windows RE. I was running many marks on the multiple of my SSD before I changed my ISP and I could do an activation online with no problem now.
