DL360-G8 install on USB/SD with ESXi 5.5 - U2

Hi people,

This one is driving nuts me and I would appreciate the help.

I'm building a new VMWare VSphere environment, or I would if I can pass the task first and simple installation of the ESXi hypervisor on the SD card or USB key.

I bought a pair "diskless" of DL380G8 with 96 GB of memory.

I downloaded the HP custom construction ESXI ISO VMware-ESXi-5.5.0-Update2-2068190-HP-5.76.36-Sep2014.iso and it burned to a bootable CD. Basically I've never passed the point of load setup beyond the GROUP where is reports "no place on the disk for the image data.

I seem to be able to 'see' the SD card that is reported as present in the ILO

I tried * and 16GB USB drives without result.

Legacy (no AHCI) is set to SATA in the BIOS.

Disks formatted in FAT32

Any ideas?

Thanks as always to advance...

see you soon

Graham

Not sure if anyone cares, but the answer to that, is that there is a patch for some server (G8 configs) like mine.

the patch is here:

This seems to be a known issue. As we shall see, I linked an article below that describes the problem and resolution:

ESXi Update 2 5.5 fails with the error purple diagnostic screen: IOMMUDoReportFault IOMMUProcessFaults (2090039)

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2090039

the best way to apply this was to download the patch to a data store and run via esxcli software install vib/vmfs/volumes/yourdatapathere/etc...

Of course you must activate your SSH host in the console first...

Thank you

Graham

And just to clarify, I need to be able to use the USB direct basis using the USB with Server 2012 controller xHCI. I was able to use the pass through device in the past, but I need a card I can use regular USB 3.0 transfer and NOT transmitting device. I hope someone can point me to a USB 3 map that will work correctly. I also prefer a card that requires no additional power, as these cards are for a server.

I talked to VMware and found that you can have transfer USB 3.0 through the a virtual machine host.

Installation of Windows Xp from a usb key involves a lot more than simply copy the files from one windows on a USB disk. It is much more difficult than don't imagine most (but not impossible). I did it a few times. Read the instructions on the two links below. The first link below is your best bet. You are not likely to do things immediately. It's ok, we are here...

  • HP DL360 G6 "Noncompliant" with ESXi 5.1

    Hello

I have two DL360 G6 running with ESXi 5.0U1 and I wanted to upgrade to 5.1.

I downloaded die ESXi HP - 5.1.0 - standard-iso and added to the Update Manager, but when I check for an upgrade, I get the error that the servers are "Non-compliant".

The DL360 G6 VMware Compatibility Guide must be supported for ESXi 5.1.

Is it possible to know why it is Non-compliant?

If I'm not mistaken, UM produce generally / alert error "Non-compliant" If ONLY your hosts (ESXi 5.0) do not correspond with your intended base line (5.1 ESXi) when you attach it to the guests. However, once you patch the host with this baseline, it should change to consistent.

    'Inconsistent' should be of concern.

Can someone answer this question right ahead please?

When you buy a new HP DL360 with ESXi embedded you need hard to host a file of any nature or can the server work without local disks at all?

    See you soon.

Hi, Local storage is not required. You can create the SWAP file on the external data store. Please go through the link http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vmware_esxi_architecture_wp.pdf (number of page 4). See you soon!

I used a BlacX Superspeed and it worked perfectly.

  • Rufus (free utility) takes 2 minutes to create a USB bootable for ESXi installation starting source who becomes the target of the installation, even for 5.5

Just info, one of these open Windows source rare beads that are becoming more and more difficult to find on the web these days, in the middle of a see payloads of downloader.

Rufus I found to be very convenient for the quick creation of a USB flash drive you can start from, and then only install, for ESXi, no command-line stuff to memorize necessary and very fast:

    TinkerTry.com/rufus-takes-2-minutes-to-create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive-for-esxi-installation

works very well with ESXi 5.5 also:

    TinkerTry.com/download-vsphere-5-lab

and when finished with this flash drive and you want to use it for something else (but normal reformatting does not work), she who manages, even on Windows 8.1:

    TinkerTry.com/rufus-lets-you-quickly-and-easily-reformat-an-esxi-usb-flash-drive-back-to-full-capacity

Especially useful for people to start who shy away from Linux VMware procedure:

Format a USB to start the ESXi Installation or upgrade

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

Windows diskpart commands or potentially dangerous. Really fair, fast and useful for pretty much everyone.

    Thoughts and opinions?

Just a follow up on my comment about several injection of VIB in the ISO that you use as a file source for Rufus (a few months back, seen above):

Here is the article that came out of this subject (Yes, it works!):

  • Unable to boot from USB thumbdrive running ESXi 5

I have a workstation xw6600 I used as my sandbox for ESXi from 4.0. So I decided it was time to become familiar with ESXi 5, so before starting to run our upgrade to ESXi 5 in all our servers I wanted to update my own sandbox. I tried first of all to make an update to 4.1 update 1 who does not like I special HP drivers installed, so I decided to make a brand new install ESXi 5 using VMware bootable CD. The installation seems to be successful, but when the supposed to reboot from the USB system I get the typical mistake of the BIOS indicates that no BONES were found "no disk system or disk error." ». For a year I've been running ESXi in this system without problems. I am currently starting from 4.1 update 1 from a USB, if I look that the problem was the installation process in my sandbox (after hours of troubleshooting and several creations of CD), so I did an installation in one of our server (DL360G7). Everything went find I could only start in ESXi 5 no problem (using the same CD I create above). I took this USB to my sandbox and tried to boot from it and still the same error. I can not even boot my laptop from the USB. Does anyone know what changes to the startup procedure in ESXi 5 compare to ESX 4.0?

From my understanding, if you create a new 5.0 installation, then it will only start using UEFI.

However, if you upgrade an ESXi in 5.0, it retains the original MBR boot.

    See you soon.

  • by install script usb - copy files

I'm doing an installation by script of ESXi 4.1 from a USB key.  The actual installation and config is fine.  My problem is with some files I want to copy from the USB to the ESXi server.

I have many files on the USB key that I want to copy from the USB key on the server, so I can install additional software after ESXi is installed.  I tried to use mcopy, but show so far the closest I came to success is having on the ESXi Server files before the first reboot, but after the reboot, the files have disappeared.   This is the command I am using:

    mcopy - v b-i /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0:1 \::file1 /PCNS223/file1.copy

I'm not interested in shooting the files on the network; I need to to get them from the usb.  I hope I'm missing something simple and anyone can point me in the right direction.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Rich,

Copy your files in VMFS so that it retains after the restart and you can install the software from VMFS.also you can copy scratch partition if you have configured the partition scratch to point to VMFS

OEM.tgz can be used as a starting point to the top of folder in windows as mentioned by DSTRAVERT

    Thank you

  • Problems when I want to update my complete system Mavericks using a USB key with the installation program.

I want to "Refresh" my Mavericks home cleaning system and I still have a USB key with the complete installation program.

With this USB key, I installed successfully already before Mavericks. Now, I want to repeat the installation by booting from USB key. But when the installation starts early an alert appears, said something like "... the verification failed - something is changed on the volume...". "and the cant of the installation continues.

I've archived the original "OS X Mavericks installieren.app" from the app store and I have properly prepared another USB key using the terminal app, referencing the original installer, but I still get this alert when I try to install with this new USB.

It is necessary for me to work with the Mavericks, because it's the latest version of the system on which I can run Adobe Creative Suite CS6 correctly. With the later versions of OS X, I get problems on my Mac Pro (end of 2008).

I wonder what could happen with my first USB data, as I have already installed Mavericks successfully with it under the same conditions and after that he never touched the stick again so far. What can I do? What is the reason for this? Y at - there a site where I can get help or advice to solve the problem or if necessary can I re-download an Installer 'fresh '?

Thank you and what is Berlin

You can make a bootable USB to install using this free program that will do all the work for you. Try running disk utility/repair disk be before installation.

How to install a USB Port of 2.00

    Hello

As far as I know Satellite 1900-803 supports Cardbus 32-bit/PC-Card 16 - Bit interface and you can use cards PCMCIA Type II (x 2) or Type III (1 x)
Before you buy the PCMCIA card to USB you should check if it's compatible with your laptop.
But I agree with Quad. The PCMCIA card is a good solution to use USB 2.0
