DNS or DHCP SG200 - issue 26

Hi forum

I'm having some trouble with a SG200 - 26.

Its new and I think the only adjustment was its IP address.

I think that all other parameters may be by default/s.

All our workstations and the servers were connected through the switch as expected.  One of these servers providing DHCP service.

We also have a bunch of Cisco phones that worked fine with the old switch, BUT...

When I plug the phone in the SG200 - 26, they begin to initialize.

After the message "Initializing network", they are all stuck on "check the DNS.

It seems that all phones can not get any IP address or DNS of the DHCP server settings, so failure is assured.

Please and thankyous for advice or hints to make it work as you want.

I hope it's just a PBKAC.

I have quite the same problem with a SG200-26, but the effect is larger.

Several Cisco 7911 G phones operate smoothly on our network, before connecting the SG200-26.

After having connected the switch cisco (15-30 seconds), they began to 'record' status and getting stuck there. Despite the fact that they were already registered and work, they become inaccessible even by PING.

Note that the phones are NOT connected to the Cisco switch, however they are affected by its presence.

The earthing switch Cisco also restores the normal situation of the 7911Gs (after 20-30 seconds).

To complicate my understanding, the PC are NOT affected by the presence of Cisco SG200-26.

As for Brian Roper, the game only I changed the switch are name/address/password. No VLAN.

You can guess that such a device is pretty devastating for our services, instead I bought to solve problems.

Any other suggestions?

  • Requirement of DNS and DHCP Server Essentials 2012 home

I have a Server Windows Essentials 2012 acting as DNS and DHCP server with a domain name for backups etc on my home network. It's that everything works fine, no errors, no problem. Works well actually, telling me when the children did not install updates or restarted.

I have two groups of users. My sons step, 10 and 12, which I want to use OpenDNS as a provider external DNS with a policy very, very limited and my wife and me who want to use indications of root or Google DNS or any other DNS provider. Others, specific devices no user (box of the xBox, WII, Satellite, TV, CCTV etc.) can use.

Before the 2012 server, I had a 2 k 3 server running in a virtual machine for DHCP, alone and put my wife and my devices on static reservations with the just and external DNS provider used OpenDNS as the default scope, DNS. Unfortunately different bits of domain services 2012 don't seem to work unless the server of 2012 is the first DNS server listed on client machines (backups failed. Impossible to find other local computers). Currently, this means that we are all using OpenDNS.

What I would like is a way to say 2012 to send adult group DNS queries to another DNS provider and leave the rest at default to OpenDNS, while still having them register in the original DNS domain. Any suggestions?

  • WLC 5508 internal DHCP server issues

    Hello

I'm hoping to get your comments around the issues of dhcp, I faced with two centrally switched Wireless LAN. I have attempted to explain the installation and the problems below and would be grateful if anyone can suggest a solution for the problems I am facing:

    The configuration is the following:

-J' have a WLC 5508, which has been configured with 4 SSID, of which 2 are the Central authentication and commissioning.
-J' have a LWAP connected to the WLC in HREAP mode.
-WLC is configured as a DHCP server for clients that connect to the SSID "Guest." For the rest, I'm on external dhcp server.
-Only one scope of comments Interface is configured on the WLC.

    Problems:

    1. as far as I know, to WLC serve internal dhcp server, it is mandatory to have the proxy enabled, but the Clients connecting to 'Internet' SSID are

Unable to get an external dhcp server ip address, if the proxy dhcp is enabled on the WLC. If I disable the proxy, everything works fine.

2 DHCP does not release the ip addresses assigned to clients, even after that that they are connected.

    3. If a machine that has previously been connected to "Guest" SSID connects to the 'Internet' SSID, he asks the same ip address, he was charged by the WLC assigned under "Guest", it gets the tag with the Vlan configured on the management interface.

    The controller output *.

  • Problem with DHCP SG200-26

Hello, I have a switch SG200-26 for a small business network that gives me some irregular deadlines.  We have a wired broadband to Internet services, (cable Modem), which is plugged into a port on the switch Gig.  In our office space, we have a wireless router for PCs connected to SG200-26, and connected by Ethernet to SG200-26 IP phones.  In the PC desktop access via Wireless-> SG200 - 26-> cable Modem.

DHCP is provided by cable modem for the devices connected to the SG200-26, devices on the wireless get an IP address of the wireless AP.

I have an IP phone and a laptop that won't get a DHCP address when it is connected to the switch SG200-26.  I know that DHCP works on the cable modem because the 6-10 devices work without problem.  The phone that will not get an address is new.  When I connect to the wireless router to test it, it gets an IP address without problem.  I connect my laptop to the switch and that you do not get a DHCP address.  I rebooted the cable modem, all devices got an IP address except this new phone.  I blame the phone, but my laptop is not getting and address either.  I also checked the cable operator and they don't see any errors on the cable Modem.

Help.  I fear that the switch is failed the DHCP information and when the current IP address leases expire I have a dead network.

    Thank you

    Hello

If you have this option then the best Setup is to connect your E2500 directly to the modem with a static IP address, then connect the switch to the E2500 and connect the whole switch. It works like a charm.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • R7000 DHCP connectivity issues

My Nighthawk R7000 router was working fine until the last few days. Looks like that DHCP does not work properly.

I use the range of 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254. But on all my devices (cable and wifi) I get the following IP address:
192.168.192.XX. There is no problem when I switch to static.
    The firmware is version V1.0.4.30_1.1.67.

    Any suggestions?

I found the problem. There was a conflict with my Horizon Media Box by Samsung. You can also use this box as a router and it gave me a bad IP-adres. I unplugged the Horizon of my network and it works properly now. So I did not use the reset option. Thanks for your help.

  • DNS DHCP pool (internal DNS issue)

I know that we can implement several DNS server under DHCP pool. But I want to assure the order.

    I have several branches.

Let's say 1 division Office has a router with 10.30.1.1 as a default gateway.

Our internal DNS is 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 as Pri and dry.

My order of DNS server is as below.

    1 gateway

    2 internal DNS

3 public DNS provided by ISP

I saw two or three questions when I put the internal DNS first. Special situation is when IPsec does not work, users could not access the internet through domain name because they had internal DNS that is not accessible.

But when the door is of the first order, I don't know if users are able to access the internal Web site because gateway DNS does not have internal DNS records.

So, my question is which. What should be the best order for installing DNS under DHCP between default gateway, internal DNS and DNS?  Our current configuration does not have same gateway address, there only internal DNS addresses only.

    dhcp pool IP CCP-pool1

    Network 10.30.1.0 255.255.255.0

    name of domaine.org

    router by default - 10.30.1.1

    -10.30.1.1 NetBIOS name server

    10.30.1.1 DNS server 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 24.25.5.60

    (1) I think your logic is right.

    (2) you are welcome.

    (3) I now see how the link relates to question 3. Yes, the difference between the specification of a name server for the router itself with ip name-server and clients by using the dns server is an important point.

I am glad that you tell us that you had ip domain-lookup because it would have been my follow-up to the issue. Can you tell us exactly what the response of the router was when you tried to ping google.com? I suspect it's something in your router config. You can post a copy sanitized the router config?

Thanks for the compliment - and for points.

  • Using vm as DC, DHCP and DNS

Can I configure vm to use my controller domain, DNS and DHCP servers?

If so, how can I statically assign my choice for my DNS and DHCP IP?

Can I configure vm to use my controller domain, DNS and DHCP servers?

    Yes.

If so, how can I statically assign my choice for my DNS and DHCP IP?

Just change the network settings of the virtual machine within the guest OS and assign parameters in the appropriate subnet. You can also consider turning off the service DHCP from VMware. With VMware Workstation in place, it is much easier, since you can add additional virtual networks and enable/disable DHCP for each virtual network separately from the GUI.

  • DHCP issues

I installed VMware Workstation 10 on my laptop (Win8) and built the following virtual machines:

1 Windows Server 2008 (AD, DNS and DHCP)

    2 Windows 7

the network settings of the VM workstation, I put the NIC as 'host-only' because I want only the communication between the server and 2 win7 clients.

My problem is that the 2 Win7 clients get IPs from my laptop and not DHCP server. Setting up a static IP on the Win7 clients seems to work.

How can I solve this problem of DHCP IP setting manually on clients in Win7? Help, please.

Use the button "add a network...". "in the virtual network Editor, and then select the option you want or need.

  • Server WRT1900AC DNS (?) Questions

It is a separate, but related to the thread - question WRT1900AC DHCP do not distribute the specified static DNS entries

I have not seen this documented function of anywhere, but it seems that the WRT1900AC has an internal DNS server? The router is set to dhcp clients local (front & reverse) on my local network with DNS suffix that is issued by my ISP (via external DHCP). Accordingly, it is causing conflicts on my network name resolution.

Example: My router receives its external address via DHCP from my ISP (WebPass). The optional parameter "domain name" is not editable (see screenshot)

Now, when a dhcp client internal registers on the network with a name in conflict (for example, the www host name) it will cause a DNS conflict on the LAN:

    Nslookup www.web-pass.com

    Server: 172.16.1.1

    Address: 172.16.1.1 #53

    Name:www.web-pass.com

    Address: 172.16.1.110

where it should resolve correctly to 184.106.186.186. In addition

Don't get me wrong, I'd like a DNS local on my router - but for it to be functional and conflict prevention, the following must be done:

    1. Allow editing of the "Domain name" field to create a distinct and not conflicting namespace.
    2. Allow the ability to add static DNS for non-dhcp clients
    3. Leave the option to disable the local DNS server, for those who use & prefer their own internal DNS server
    4. Fix the bug (DHCP/DNS) mentioned at the beginning of the wire

If anyone has thoughts, observations, any other solution to workaround it please feel free add on this thread.

Linksys support reached out for me and I got a call with one of its engineers (Julie Louh - which was very useful) on this subject. It also has the problem of DHCP/Static DNS (mentioned at the beginning of the original post) of design to allow the IP address of the router to resolve the site of smart wifi Linksys (Cloud / anywhere configuration). She confirmed that the router uses IP addresses is entered in the static DNS config for DNS lookups.

On the DNS server issues described in this post, it should present the following feature requests:

    1. Allow editing of the "Domain name" field to create a distinct and not conflicting namespace.
    2. Allow the ability to add static DNS for non-dhcp clients

Of course, these feature enhancements will move up the chain of management for approval. But I think that if these 2 are implemented it will solve the main problems described here.

On a separate note, I was very pleased with the customer service and the reaction of Belkin/Linksys. The personal reachout to a technical support technician really shows that they are determined to make this powerful router and feature rich as they promised it would be.

  • BEFSX41 1.52.16 ignores the DNS settings

    Hi all

I think I have found quite a serious problem (for me) with the latest firmware BEFSX41 (v 1.52.16.4).

All first Base: the router is connected directly to a cable modem and gets it's IP through DHCP. My ISP uses DNS servers who harvest unknown DNS names and redirects them to a server which offers suggested sites. The biggest problem is that it can return a public IP address when you are looking for a name for a server in my VPN and causes all my VPN traffic get routed to public IP addresses.

The solution is to configure the router to use (sometimes provided by my ISP) DNS servers that do not have this behavior. This worked great by setting these servers on the settings page in the BEFSX v1.52.10.

The problem occurred when I updated the firmware (hoping it would fix more problems than he solved) to version 1.52.16. The new version now does not take into account the configured DNS settings and always use the assigned DNS servers DHCP protocol.

My question is therefore of two parts:

    1. Where can I find a (reliable) download of the 1.52.10 firmware, so I can get my VPN works again? Or is there a better version of firmware I should use that would have this problem fixed?
    2. What is the best way to ensure Linksys is aware of the issue, so that I can get fixed in the next update?

    Thank you!

According to what features are most important to you, new firmware on the router is certainly not always better!

Here is a place where to try for your BEFSX41:

    http://BEFSX41.flogator.org/doku.php?id=stock

Anyone no matter what firmware for the BEFSR41 v4.3 that allows traffic logging feature to actually exit traffic data?

Static IP is fine, can ping OK phone, get the advanced config login screen in Internet Explorer, BUT as soon as I enter my VSP on ext 1,2 and 3 phone is stuck on a screen "check DNS".

I have the settings from my ISP in DNS 1 and 2, but some how they don't seem to work.

Any advice on how to get my installation work would be appreciated.

The "check DNS" was the question, which is now resolved. I changed my billion router to select the DNS address automatically, then the DNS addresses is entered in the phone of the SPA of my ISP DNS, selected "DHCP, manual" in the box, enter a hostname for my system, put my routers IP address in the domain box dah and the ti just clicked on the spot.

I spent my VSP in the post and they recorded immediately.

  • WRT54G and DNS relay?

Hello everyone - I am considering the purchase of a unit of WRT54g.  Have a question...

I intend to have the IP-side WAN to give it to me via DHCP from ISP.  I expect that the ISP will provide info server DNS as well on the WAN side.

Is it possible to pass transparently this DNS information to my LAN using DHCP clients?  I'm not statically configure DNS for DHCP clients on the LAN side.  I'd rather them use some address DNS is given to the router.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you
    Scott

Yes. This is the default behavior. According to the version of the firmware on the server and the router DHCP on the router either directly affects the DNS of the ISP servers or he assigns the DNS relay router, i.e. 192.168.1.1 aka it's own LAN IP address.
