DNSchanger removal of malware problem; MS security scanner won't work.

I've been infected by what I assume to be the DNSchanger malware. 9/10 times that I'm trying to access a page from a google search, they simply open habit, I'm not re-directed, but they won't open. If I try to go to my dell's internet home page, it will load up, then redirect me to some site summary spam/ad.

I downloaded the two microsoft security scanner and repair program Avira DNS. I ran Avira, it says it works. Then to remove the malware itself, I run the scanner.

(I'm just following the instructions of google, gave me when I googled something he says my computer is infected and gives me instructions on how to remove DNSchanger malware).

But once it's done scanning it will ask me if I want to delete potentially unwanted software. The only thing that is listed under the potentially unwanted software is called: Win32/PowerRegScheduler, which is apparently an .exe file which is located in an other users (of the computer, there are three different profiles on the computer) folder progr. If I chose I would delete potentially unwanted software, it immediately stops and restarts my computer. Even if I select I want this deleted software and click on next, skip the removal of the software, he always immediately stops and restarts my computer. I tried running a full scan and a quick scan. Nothing works. Help, please!

    Dear support,

My Brother MFC-685CW scanner will not work by using the Windows 8 operating system.  He will work with a USB cable.  I have a wireless printer.  I need a driver to install in windows 8 for a scanner?

Hi, my brother has done the same.  You have to get a USB cable and connect your brother to your PC/laptop and when it connects, your system will install the Windows scanner software.  The Brother connection is a little hard to find.  Go under the glass.  Look at our manual book of brother.  Just do it once.  After that the scanner works well.

  • Fingerprint HP scanner won't work - Windows 8

    Hello:

I recently bought a laptop HP Envy DV 6 with Windows 8 and then bought Norton 360.  Norton 360 would run analyses quick or full scan of the system.  I contacted Norton and they remotely access my computer and fix the problem (so far).  However, now my fingerprint reader does not work.  It's really annoying because I just spent ~ $700 on this computer and HP is not anyone I can call directly for support.

Does anyone know how to fix this?  I don't know which drivers and the software to install.  I searched site Authentec and cannot find them.  Help!

I recommend to download and install the HP Support assistant if you don't have it already. You can run and search all the missing drivers on your laptop.

  • IBM Java 6 Runtime got removed, now the Manager of EKM encryption won't work.

We use a TL2000 Dell for backups.  In a safety audit, it was noted that we had what we call the 'IBM Java 6 runtime' installed on our backup server, and it has been deleted without that person do you wonder what he has done.

What he did was run responsible EKM encryption the TL2000 and now it won't load at all. .  Looking at the 'LaunchEKMGui.bat' file shows that it references the path where these runtimes used to be.  I tried to find a download for this particular flavor of Java without success.  I downloaded the iso of the encryption Manager, but I'm rather perplexed.  I was hoping that there is a section "install the IBM Java 6" or "Repair Installation" option, but no luck.  I'm just the junior admin net and my boss and I have been at this company for less than a year after a major overhaul, so we try to understand the network as soon as possible with little documentation.

I also tried to change the LaunchEKMGui.bat to refer to a different path for Java, but that did not work.

    My questions are the following:

    (1) is there a way to get this IBM Java Runtime, without having to reinstall the full encryption Manager?

    (2) is there a CLI that I could use to start the server for encryption?

We'll be moving away from backups on tape in the very near future - certainly before the end of the year and eventually, at the end of the month - but now I would like to strongly get the encryption running server and we are not totally out in the water on the backups.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Bryan

    Hello Bryan,

Given that you are missing the java runtime, you can try to install just that from the iso file for EKM. I've seen sometimes that he can work & difficulty of the question, but most of the time that a reinstallation is necessary. Here is a link for the ISO & the EKM installation guide.

can anyone tell how to prevent him from returning?

    Thank you very much.

    joy

The safety of MS Scanner will not prevent your system from being infected again - you need to use another product to help with that.

No single analytical tool seems to know everything, so it is prudent to use more than one.

Microsoft is not in cases of prevention, detection or removal of malware - that aren't their specialty.  There are other companies where the removal, prevention and detection of malware is their specialty and that's all they do all day long.

Why are we expect or ask Microsoft to surpass in the areas where it's not their job?

We do not know enough about your system for now, so see if you can get it cleaned up and stabilized first and then decide what to do next.

If you still think your system may be achieved a malware, I would do these things before you start any troubleshooting effort:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs at:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

Download and run Hitman Pro here and during installation to be 100% sure to refuse the installation of toolbars, decline any e-mail options, nothing to do with Bing or MSN, perform a scan time, accept no e-mail and activate the free license:

http://www.SurfRight.nl/en/downloads/ (make sure you get the free version)

Download and run TDSSKiller from Kaspersky:
    http://support.Kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?QID=208280684

The scans by operating clean, then to solve any problems.

If you still think that you have any questions, then proceed as follows:

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

What is your Internet browser and version?

Your system's disks IDE or SATA drives?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Do you see that you think not you should see and when you see it?

What do not you think that you should see?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  • Partially removed Microsoft Java CVE-2013-2423 security scanner

    Hello

I ran the Security Scanner version 1.0.3001.0 Microsoft and he has detected the malicious program JAVA/CVE-2013-2423 and indicated that it was partially removed.

I deleted all my Win 7 Pro x 64 system Java programs and represented the program with the same results, only partial removal.

I deleted all restore and backup points and the scan is represented with the same results.

The scanner said three files were infected. But that doesn't tell you which files they are.

There is no way to determine what should be deleted from the system. When you click on "View detailed results of the analysis" what you get is a pop-up with two columns: Malware and analysis of the results. Only in the column of malware: exploit: Java/CVE-2013-2423. The results of the analysis indicates: partially removed.

The popup box also indicates: to view the manual steps, click the name of the virus, spyware or potentially unwanted software. When I click on the name of the virus, I get a Web page on the virus and it says it takes to remove programs, I did after the first scan, but the Scanner still shows its presence.

I think Microsoft should modify this program to give the full path to the infected files.

This is the first time I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner. My internet security software is ESET Smart Security 7. I also run Windows Defender and SUPERAntiSpyware Pro, but none of these programs has detected this threat.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Concerning

This problem has been resolved. Although I just updated to ESET Smart Security 6 at 7, I didn't run a scan complete with ESET SS 7 still. ESET SS 7 found and removed the threat.

You have requested the assistance of your anti-malware installed program?
Otherwise since the Microsoft Safety Scanner cannot solve your problem of malware suggest that you run the following scanners which will not interfere with your program AntiVirus installed. You may need to run in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with network.

Free Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ or if it will not install in Normal Mode or Safe Mode with network see http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/chameleon/

Hitman Pro Trial Version: http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro you may prefer to try HitmanPro Kickstart, which should remove this malware and fix all changes made to the computer: http://www.surfright.nl/en/kickstart , you must use an uninfected computer to download it to a flash drive and then follow the specific directions on how to run the program on the infected computer.  Hitman Pro Kickstart is available as a 30 day trial version.

  • security scanner does not run

I ran it before, but now I get an error message that msert.exe is not a valid Win32 application, thanks.

    Hi James,

Please contact the Microsoft Community Forums.

Looks like you are unable to run the Scanner and get an error message "msert.exe is not a valid Win32 application." We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

    1. where exactly did you download scan Microsoft Safety?

2 is this problem limited to the Microsoft Safety Scanner files?

Not a valid 32-bit application can have several origins:

File is corrupt, missing, or bad.
File is not designed for your version of Windows
File is a virus, worm or other malware file
    Hardware incompatibility

    Method 1:

Perform a SFC scan on your computer. Consult the following link:

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 2:

I suggest you reinstall the Microsoft Safety Scanner on your computer.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a tool of free downloadable security that provides analysis on demand and helps to remove viruses, spyware and other malicious software. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Scanner security Microsoft cancelled 10 days after current download. To re - run a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: Data that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a potential for data loss.

Hope this information helps. Get back to us if you have more queries about Windows.

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.

  • The safer browser and e-mail provider & how are these viruses and malware problems to spread?

I use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 10 to surf the web. In my view, they have everything to lose if their browser has problems of security, however, makes also large target. A Yahoo email account has been hacked. How, I don't know. Then the spam was sent to all my contacts. I have used e-mail accounts, with all programs of well known web site outside of Yahoo. Hotmail/Live, AOL, Gmail, mail, and inbox.com. They all seem to work. With spam being a problem on Yahoo & Hotmail. For me your browser must protect users against viruses and software malware and other things of that nature. Because surf the Internet, it's what you want to do with a browser. How is distributed most of these things? What is the e-mail provider and a more secure browser.

    Hi dough.

I agree with Bugbatter that even if all the major Webmail as some antivirus e-mail scanning, but you cannot rely solely on them. Also, it is not a question of what browser or webmail is more secure or better. Don't forget a website or a program can be infected sometime or another. However there are a few things to you, as a user, can do to protect yourself. As BB says above. It is your responsibility because it is your PC, your account and your identity that you want to protect.

1.) keep your operating system (including your browsers) and the security of programs up to date. There are programs such as Java, Flash, Reader which are important targets by malicious software so that they can be used to infect your computer. If you can, avoid them, otherwise, leave enable automatic update so that any security flaw can be fixed in time.

2.) use a strong password. Combination of 10 or more letters, numbers and symbols using capital letters too. Use different passwords for all your sites; emails, social, banking and hang them on a regular basis.

3.) don't be click happy. Do not open unknown emails and if a friend sends attactments, call him or her or answer her and ask if he or she send these attactments. If something seems fishy, it's probably so don't click on don't it. Do some research first. Have a special folder where you can download your attactments and scann again. Do not open it directly fron the site, and if possible have a secondary scanner to get a second opinion. Malwarebytes is a good choice.

In open wifi hotspots) 4 (coffe shops, airports) switch your firewall to 'Public' if possible and avoid banking on cibersites using a public PC.

5.) have a backup strategy. Make a regular backup of your system and important documents (files, photos, emails, videos, music, Fav). Win 7 and Win 8 joined, I understand, a very good program to do this. There are other third-party programs that can also make an image of your HARD drive regularly.

I think those are the mayor points to be relatively safe, but I imaging of other members of this forum can add a little more.
