Do FCPX 'Portable '.

After many years using Final Cut Express and to be less good at managing clips and libraries.

I want to start the right way because I finally upgrade.

I want to be able to have 'all' on an external hard drive.  90% of what I will be on my desk, but

Sometimes I want to work on the laptop.  I use btw, El Capitan on a 2012 GM 16 iMac and Air 2011 RAM.

Can someone guide me to do the initial set-up correctly?  Preferably from the old windows

Final Cut are obviously not the same, and if I've been trolling and looking on Google, I am less confident in

some of the information I read specific to this question.  I only want to do this the right way, the first TIME.

I'll buy the software this weekend and get started!

Thanks in advance,

Dana

PS A few tips on how to install the software on my two computers?  Y at - it something for her?

P.S., Download the app from the App Store. Copy it from one machine to the other. Don't forget to run the download of additional software on both machines. It is not that big. For most of the additional codecs.

The easiest way to do what you want is to use what is called the managed media, so your media in contained inside of the whole library. Get a good external fast reader. Make a new library for each production. Save the library on the external media player. Default library properties is run, media if you are really good to go as soon as you do in the library. Everything that you import is in the library. Just take the reader to a computer machine. The only things to watch are elements like fonts and plugins and other who could be on one machine and not on the other. Everything for the production, the original media, optimized media, make files, proxies, regardless the trip with the library.

Not new to editing, but fairly new to FCPX, I turned on about a dozen projects and try to develop the best workflow for my type of work.  I shoot two types of videos, 1 camera and camera 2-3, on 50-50.  I learned that unlike FCP7 I can link media or bring media in the project through the 'copy' instead of link selection.

QUESTION 1: After I imported media (and he therefore copied the media to the folder of file FCP project 4 balls, and then remove the media player where the original media was?)

QUESTION 2: If I use the method of the link, after I close the project and open a different project, whose media are on yet a third disk, delete the original media player as long as I'm not opening this original project?

QUESTION 3: Is there a way to have this kind of configuration...

    • OS DRIVE (SSD) hosts the library for all projects and all projects, photos, media files, etc. is on DRIVE 1
    • DISC 1 (USB3 SSD) includes all media of these projects, photos, videos, and other media, etc.
    • DISC 2 (USB3 SSD) has all the files rendering of the above

If the highest possible, how we implemented in FCPX and will that make the 4 small ball library file, or will it still be fat?

QUESTION 4: If I use the section "copying" to all media files and imported media and had started to edit and made all the tasks are complete, close a library folder of projects within FCPX and then after the closure of FCPX, can move the file to another HD (say a SSD), which has a directory of FCPX LIBRARY with the same name on the original drive and then open the project and start working on it and then move the file back to the original disc LIBRAY and continue editing.  This allows the project to be edited by different people on different computers.  In other words, some libraries projects are located in a folder and move from machine to machine via external portable drives to SSD USB3.

QUESTION 5: What is the best time to implement 'proxy files' in FCPX to media Import or after the media has been imported from the top menu bar?

Thanks in advance for all those who wish to take the time to help a pro acting as an amateur, while trying to learn FCPX.

    1 should work.

    2. you keep saying project, but I think you mean library. I hope you mean library. If so, then Yes.

    3. Yes. I don't know what you mean by the 4 ball library file. If you mean the library on DISK OS, then Yes, it remains relatively low. Don't know what you get you're looking to put the files of rendering in DRIVE 2.

4 depends on where you copied media. If it is inside the library and you pass the library back, it will work, but the copy process will be very long if you have a large number of media. The usual procedure is to have two identical systems with the same name of library and media stored in a file on each system. To move updated information back a transfer library is used. It is a library containing all of the project (using this in the terminology of the FCP) and is used to transmit the information to the other system. Once it is passed to the other person, they integrate it in their library and throw transfer library.

    5. no difference. Create a proxy support when you need it. If you know you'll need, you can create when importing, just make sure that the process of copying and transcoding is complete.

  • FCPX guard leave unexpectedly after I do the same edit

FCPX started just suddenly stop unexpectedly, often after a few changes, and the last time he is smoking after that I have try to do the same thing to change. Any ideas? I have the version 10.2.3, on El Captain 10.11.4

Really hard to say where I'm sitting. FCPX accidents are often related to bad media. Maybe in the case, I have a feeling they are trying to use too many PDF files in a library, but this isn't what I can prove it.

Open a backup copy of your project, from before your sequence crashing and see if it crashes. After the return. fans will have more questions for you. Patience.

  • FCPX - library (deletion of files)

I am changing a film in FCPX. I'll try to explain my situation before asking...

-All the files (H.264), since the shooting of this movie are stored in an external hard drive.

-J' have only transcoded the best takes to ProRes use MPEG Streamclip and also they stored in the same HD.

-J' only imported the ProRes files into my movie library. Whenever I imported a file, I selected on the tag files: 'copy to the library.'

-The film as a whole is in a library in the same HD (with H.264 and the ProRes).

Now my HD is short of space. My questions are...

    1. since I just imported the ProRes files to my movie library, remove all my HD H.264 files? (btw I backed up on another hard drive).

    2. given that all imported media in the library of my film has been "copied in the library," if I copy this library in a larger HD, that would be enough to continue to work with my movie? I want to say, because everything is copied in the library is as an independent file with the whole movie and I wouldn't need since the other HD ProRes files?

    3. I remember once received a warning from FCPX on my HD space (at this time, I think I had about 150 GB free), so what's the minimum amount of space in a HD than FCPX needs to work properly?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for the grammar).

Copy the complete library to an external one and it should perform exactly like the original.

Test before you delete other things.

Be considered complete readers to 85-90% of its capacity.

FCP X can do its own transcoding to ProRes format.

Most of the time that h.264 works in FCP X without transcoding.

    Have you tried?

  • Should I buy now FCPX if a new version may be on its way at the end of October?

I'm considering the purchase of FCPX at level of iMovie, because I must be able to work with multiple cameras and work with more than one PIP at a time.  Also I'm not a power user in anyway...

In any case looking around, I see rumors of a possible major new version announced in late October.  I don't know about how the purchase and update of FCPX works so if I had to buy now, I would be able to upgrade to the new version (assuming that it is a major release) or would I have to pay all over again?  Could I be better waiting four weeks until the end of the month?

    What do you think?

I would like to know.  I have to pay for future improvements.  At the end of the 1990s, Adobe Photoshop cost 1299.  You would have to pay to go to Photoshop 5.0 to 6.0, etc.  It was sold to the library at my college, and students got a small discount.  My first digital camera was a pd150.  From interested parties.

  • How to make animated gifs to work in FCPX?

    Hello

How to make animated gifs to work in FCPX?

They work in FCP7 (FCS) but not FCPX. Strange.

    Elmer

If you had FCP7, you have Quicktime 7 Pro (upgraded automatically at installation FCP7). Check your Applications > Utilities folder.

Open the gif in QT7 and export as... (Sequence Quicktime Movie > Open Options)... might as well go with ProRes LT and make sure that you pay attention to the size option (select current if the original is 100%).

  • Similar audio files in FCPX

I have two different video clips, one is 6 hours long and the other is 2 minutes.  Both video files have the same song.  I was wondering if I can use FCPX to use the two-minute clip and do match the clip is 6 hours long.  This way, that I don't have to go through 6 hours of video.  Is there a quick way to do it?  Thank you.

To clarify, I would use the clip of two minutes using FCP for know where this song is in the video for 6 hours, without having to go through all the video from 6 hours to his research.  Thank you

  • GIFs that work in FCP 7 does in FCPX - why?

    Hello

GIFs I downloaded on the internet and who worked in FCP7 do not work in FCPX.

Why and how can I make it work.

One example is a twirling DNA helix. It doesn't twirl when played.

    The best

    Elmer

I think that you will have to convert these gif files in a film format. AFAICT MPEG Streamclip can do (even though she complains that the format is not recognized), as can the old Quicktime 7 Pro.

There are also some online converters, but I'm not familiar with them.

  • FCPX jump during the import of the band. Analysis of the root causes?

    Dear friends,

I have a camera Sony TRV-900F video connected via FW800 to an iMac late 2009 with 16 GB of RAM, a quad core i7 2.8 and one 1 original to HDD with El Capitan.

When I import one of my miniDV tapes (which are between 2000 and 2012 about and been wound and rewound before capture and which were mainly recorded in one take on new tapes Sony and never reused) FCPX any images in fragments of random size (from a few hundredK to 10-14 MB) and frequently shows loss of images and some audio distortion imported into the timeline and re-read.

Final tried to create archives first and then import, but the result is the same.

What I don't understand, is that, at least apparently, none of these problems of 'corruption' appears if I look/hear the tapes in camcorder Sony itself!

I tried to use iMovie and same fragmentation occurs so I guess it is not related to the SO FCPX itself.

So far, I have received the iMac 1 TB hard drive and now have tried to import on a 128 GB SSD in a USB enclosure (which is USB3, but if I'm not mistaken my iMacs USB ports are USB2). Even to jump occurs.

Maybe I need to configure the SSD in a different way and to define not only as the backup directory for imports?

If the best ideas don't come to mind the next tests I'll make are:

    (a) purchase of a NEW band and try to record and import from it. If it works, this would indicate the older strips are damaged, but it does not explain why they look good in the camera.

    (b) purchase a head cleaning cassette and to use it carefully and see if he would heal playback and import.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Post edited by: robertfromroma. Added the MacOS version. FCPX is 10.1

Try the import with QuickTime player and see if you get the same results.

  • FCPX does not recognize camera

Hi guys. FCPX does not recognize my Panasonic AG HPX250P p2 camera. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Thank you

I'm not familiar with the specific camera, but if you record on a SD card, you can try just plug the camera card and import your videos from the card (or make an archive) instead.

If you save on tape, then you need to connect the camera using Firewire, NO of USB. For a recent mac, this requires a bolt of lightning to Firewire adapter.

  • FCPX video source smooth but not in the panel mounting or output

I have some video that was shot on an iPhone 6s. When I find the video in the preview of the finder or Quick Time Player, it plays perfectly. I import it into FCPX and the video plays perfectly into in the clip viewer. I then added to the timeline, and when he reads in the timeline there slight hesitation, they are not bad as studdering but they are there. If I export the video, he will not hesitate in the exported as video. I've adjusted the video preview for better performance generator and have searched around, but can't find anything that helps solve this problem.

A test I import the Go Pro Studio video and convert video and then export it and the playback of the video perfectly in the exported video.

Do you have any ideas where to look? It's frustrating as using FCPX is really nice, now I just need the video play smoothly.

    Thank you

Perhaps the project files iPhone will is inconsistent.

  • Iomega Portable hard drive now does not appear under "Devices" after accidentally deleted USB cable. USB

My Iomega eGo Portable hard drive was connected by USB on my Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.5 cable and I was transferring my iPhoto folder.  Unfortunately, the cable dropped and I got a message on my laptop hard drive had not ejected correctly.   I reconnected it the cable, but now, it does not appear under devices in the search page.  I also checked the disc utilities and it isn't here either.  I tried to connect the hard drive of my iMac, but it does not appear in the devices out there either.

Although I have been using a Mac since they first appeared on the market and can usually work things, I find it more and more difficult with all the new technology.  Everything that used to be so easy, one of the great things the Mac since MS-DOS.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful, because I have a lot of files on this disc of old Mac and use the Iomega to backup my most important files.

    The drive may have failed.

    Try different USB cables.

Remove the naked drive from the iOmega enclosure and test it in a known functional wardrobe.

    Ciao.

My first suspicion is that there may plug-ins that need to be updated.

Even if you have uninstalled and reinstalled, plug-ins that you have in the folder models of animation will be intact (AFAICT); and I guess that even for FxFactory plugins.

If you have FxFactory plugins, maybe updated FxFactory and check for versions updates to these plugins as well.

FWIW, reported several of FCP X works well in the Sierra (apart from the return of the timecode display glitch), so he owes something in your installation. Could also be a conflict with other software apparently unrelated.
