do I have to format my USB fat32 or exfat?

Hello

do I have to format my USB fat32 or exfat?

Thank you

Johan

Well, exFAT is native to Windows and Mac OS X and some Linux flavors were added; others may be added. Consumer electronic devices such as DVRs or Smart TVs may not be able to read NTFS, but they will likely read exFAT.

  • Formatting NTFS in FAT32, questions.

I have a WD 3 TB my book, it is used on a PC to download video files (Mp4, MOV, etc.). When I login to 'my book' to a MAC I can't write external hard disk at all. I can only watch some content and cannot add or delete files. I think that I need to format it in FAT32 NTFS so I can work on both PC & Mac, is it true? If I do that it will destroy all files currently on the disc? I have to limit the size of files that I can download later?

    Thank you!

Yes, but why are the ways to take the reader to a Windows computer to reformat FAT32 because you cannot do it on a Mac because it cannot write on a NTFS formatted drive. Or you can buy a utility that allows OS x write on an NTFS drive - Paragon NTFS for Mac® 14.

  • Formatting the USB in Windows XP disk, create a folder "system volume information" How can I overcome this problem

Hello team, I tried to format my 2 GB to Format NTFS USB in WINDOWS XP. When I format the drive, it has been formatted sucssfully, but in the formatted disk, a folder is created named as 'System Volume Information '. I tried to remove my USB drive safley but it show and error as "the generic Volume is used in another program... '. ».  Why this happens, the 'System Volume Information' folder is a virus? How can I fix this problem... reply me as soon as possible... Thank you all...

    Hello

It does seem like a virus. Since you're a NTFS format, it should be a system folder. System folder is present on NTFS volumes and is used for system restore points.

If you want to remove, you may need to format the drive to FAT32.

  • Impossible to format Kingstion USB

Hi, I have Vista and XP machines and both can not format my Kingston 126 G USB. I looked at many other forums, there is a lot of suggestons\recommendations, but so far no chance here.

What I've experienced so far, it's that I can get in shape through the "disk management" from RAW to exFAT and displays the USB like "Healthy (Primary Partition)" and as "base type". However, when I try to format it in ntfs it fails... Any suggestions are welcome...

    Hi Mike,.

read this thread until your last post, I would say that I don't know if your problem is rooted in MS tools to make great readers USB and change facing he gives structure of the system, or is it a problem with the device itself.

Looking for another way, you can try to format your USB stick with a nonWindows such as 'Parted Magic' tool which is OpenSource software with many features for handling and disk management. You can download it here:

    http://PartedMagic.com/

If you have not already tried it and you succeed I would certainly say that your problem is definitley specific Windows

The problem here is: you must "ISO Recorder" or similar software to burn the Iso Image to CD. Subsequently, you can boot from this CD and start the program.

    It will be useful.

Can I format Vista to FAT32 If yes how

Say that your drive shows up as G:. Open a command prompt - start / all programs / accessories (right click), and then click Run as a qualification and enter the command:

    G: FAT32 format C:\

Or change the drive letter to match what you have.

Here's a Miccrosoft article with a more detailed explanation: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Convert-a-hard-disk-or-partition-to-FAT32-format which can be more useful if the above does not work as I think it should.

    It will be useful,

    Good luck!

P.S. If you're talking about formatting the drive in FAT32 Vista system, do not.  Vista works better in NtFS and there is no reason to format in FAT32 (if it was still possible without a re-installation, repartitionaing and the reorganization of each partition of sepapate).

  • RE; How can I add a cd rom disk driver to a top of the tower that has no one.and do I have to format disks before I can put them in the driver?

I just bought a laptop drive for my laptop which do not have. What is the right device? If this is not the case, what camera to buy so I can record information from my computer to a disc, when I don't have a disk driver on my computer. also, I have to do something to the drive first in order to make it work?

    Here are the facts:

I have an acer aspire one that isn't a disk driver (which would allow me to save my separately from the document, photos and videos).

I'd like take what I have on my computer and store it on a disk. I thought I would buy a cd rom drive, then I could do it.

but now that I have this cdrom drive. I'm going to download the document and it keeps saying disk (?), I put a disc Virgin installation cd in and it does not recognize. Do I have to format the drive? and if yes, how do I do that?

I put in a cd (musci) and it plays very well.

It records on my computer as drive D.

IM missing some knowledge. someone can help me.

What to buy to add to my laptop, so I can transfer my videos, photos and the paper out of my computer and on a disc?

I always use Nero or Roxio software, but Windows XP it has a function limited to do so.  First of all, if you must make sure that the drive you purchased is able to WRITE on the discs.  The vast majority are, but you should check that first.  Normally Windows will find the right driver for the latter and load it, but you can check the Device Manager to see.  XP if the memories are good, you click on Start-> support-> Device Manager.  Locate the entry of CD/DVD.  If there is none? or! next to him, you have the right driver.  Also, if your device came with a driver, it is another indication that you probably don't have something special for her.  Then, you will need to check to see what type of disc you have.  Many external DVD/CD players will read and write CD but not write DVD.  There are CDs CD - r and CD - RW.  CD - RW is to be formatted, but normally you don't format CD - r.  You just need to copy and paste to, click the disk, and then open Windows Explorer, on the drive, and you should see something like a list of files waiting to be burned to a disc.  Should be a button there to burn.

Now, let me propose an alternative.  An external hard drive is much better for purposes of backup CDs.  You can buy 500 GB for $70, and 1,5 to ones for about $ these days $100.  You can also buy flash drives.  You can get a 16 GB one for $10.  These would be at least 1600 pictures.  You can also buy 32 GB for $20 flash drives.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

How does each customer will be aware of the many versions and supported file formats? When you say. AVI and. MP4 is supported, why they would not extend their support on all of the. AVI and. • I have a 16 GB USB Firebird and the size on disk is only 14.9 GB

    Hi all

When I format my usb drive, all I can get is 14.9 GB. Is this normal?

and one more thing. I tried to format it like a chrome OS boot disk and made a big mess. Finally I managed to return to a single partition. This thing with the chrome operating system changed the default settings of the drive so I want to know what is the default allocation unit size (when formatting)? I think it's 4 096 bytes before I ate with it, now its default 8192. I don't know what was the default allocation size, so I need a number for an answer.

    Thank you

    Hi Chantal,

The question is limited to any particular pen driver?

I suggest trying the steps and check if that helps.

You can remove from the USB flash drive write protection using the following steps:

    a. open the Start menu, in the search bar typeregedit , then press Efriendship. The Registry Editor opens.

    b. navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If theStorageDevicePolicies registry key does not exist, you must create it manually.
    c. highlight the Strategies of storage devicesand then create a new DWORD called (32-bit) aswrite protect.

    d. Double click on the keyrecording in the right window and set the value to 0 inthe value data box , and then press the OK button.

    e. restart the computer and try formatting USB key.
