Format the USB as VMFS disk

Hi all

Is it possible to format the USB as VMFS disk to use for the data store?

Thank you very much.

Short answer = No.... It is not supported.

However, I found this: LINK

Someone seems to have 'some' success with something that was / is on the HCL:

Quote:

We have on external USB formatted with vmfs functioning as a store of data on

a Dell server that has the advantage of being on the VMWare HCL, format

the drive that the partion type fb and execute commands to get the kernel to create

/ VMFS/Devices/Disks vmhba for the reader, then put vmfs shaped, he worked on

the ESX 3i server Dell, but not on incompatible hcl ESX 3.5 server,.

Thanks for the support

If you "innovate" with I guess.

Hi I want to format a 8 GB hp pen drive. When I format the USB key, it displays a message that's writing protected.can help you in this problem. Please help me I wait for your answer you.

    Thank you

    Hi Chantal,

The question is limited to any particular pen driver?

I suggest trying the steps and check if that helps.

You can remove from the USB flash drive write protection using the following steps:

    a. open the Start menu, in the search bar typeregedit , then press Efriendship. The Registry Editor opens.

    b. navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If theStorageDevicePolicies registry key does not exist, you must create it manually.
    c. highlight the Strategies of storage devicesand then create a new DWORD called (32-bit) aswrite protect.

    d. Double click on the keyrecording in the right window and set the value to 0 inthe value data box , and then press the OK button.

    e. restart the computer and try formatting USB key.

    Note:
this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Formatting the USB in Windows XP disk, create a folder "system volume information" How can I overcome this problem

Hello team, I tried to format my 2 GB to Format NTFS USB in WINDOWS XP. When I format the drive, it has been formatted sucssfully, but in the formatted disk, a folder is created named as 'System Volume Information '. I tried to remove my USB drive safley but it show and error as "the generic Volume is used in another program... '. ».  Why this happens, the 'System Volume Information' folder is a virus? How can I fix this problem... reply me as soon as possible... Thank you all...

    Hello

It does seem like a virus. Since you're a NTFS format, it should be a system folder. System folder is present on NTFS volumes and is used for system restore points.

If you want to remove, you may need to format the drive to FAT32.

  • Unable to format the USB flash key.

    Hey there,

I bought different brands of Flash Drives and some of them has been damaged and it usually more open.

whenever I have do a format for these flash drives it says that windows cannot continue... and some of them said "there is no disk in drive 'H' Please insert a disk".

I did a format disk management that also, it did not work, I checked for power to the usb hub option root "to allow windows to turn off this device...". ».

I also tried to install a software for formatting, did not work.

Restart windows in safe mode and try to format it, nothing.

I just want to know a way to fix this because I have like 7 flash readers does not, I'm not intresting to get the data that has been stored in these flash drives.

I don't know if this has been posted in the right section but please, any help will be great.

    thnx in advance.

    Hello

Try to use the Flash Drives on other computers to see if they are working, or can be formatted. When a USB
disk has failed and cannot be accepted, then it cannot be formatted.

  • Satellite Pro A40: Is it possible to format the HARD drive without disk

I am passing on a Satellite Pro A40 to a brother. It is in very good condition, but has slowed down over the years. I want to get rid of my data (I have on a new machine) and speed up the system by formatting the hard drive.

The machine didn't come with a disc for Windows XP, or a recovery CD (just a CD "tools and utilities"). I'm sure the drive HARD will be partitioned, and I can format the drive without such a disc.

If this is true, how should I do?
    Thank you.

    Hello

I can't believe that you do not have recovery media.
The laptop must be supplied with recovery CD, Tools & Utilities CD, and WinDVD.

    But back to your question;
If you insert a new HARD disk, you will need to use the Toshiba Recovery CD or the original CD of Microsoft Windows to install the operating system.
The new drive is not partitioned HARD and doesn't have any OS pre-installed!

If you n t have the original CD of Microsoft OS you can contact the service provider allowed in your country and you can order it.

    I hope I could help

  • Windows was unable to complete the USB format?

The device is working properly, that I've seen in Device Manager
    It's a HP 8 GB USB key
    but impossible to format

    Hello

    1. what exactly happens when you try to format the USB key?

    2. you get any error message?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps:

Method 1: Try to format the USB stick in disk management

    1. click on start
2 type diskmgmt.msc in the search box of start and press on enter

    3. right click on the volume that you want to format, and then click format.

    4. to format the volume with the default settings, in the format dialog box, click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 2: I would also say that you are trying to connect the USB on another computer and try formatting.

If you receive the similar error even on another computer, then contact the manufacturer of the car of pen for more information.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Bootcamp does not have enough space on the USB drive.

    Hello everyone,

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook pro mid-2012 running on El Capitan.
I want to do with a USB key, I bought a 16 GB nine one. Try to create the USB bootable with Bootcamp, I get the error that the USB device is too small. I don't know why that it is 16 GB.

Then I tried to format using disk utility, but I get an error.

I tried to use the command line to do with diskutil, always get an error: impossible to disassemble the drive.

Using diskutil I can see the USB key:

    #: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

    0: GUID_partition_scheme * GB 15.5 disk1

    1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1

    2: Apple_HFS Untitled 15.2 GB disk1s2

I tried to erase the part EFI using gdisk, everything is ok in gdisk, I can just erase and write to the disk. But the problem is that when I unplug and re-plug the USB nothing has changed...

Try to use under Windows (via VirtualBox) I see only a 200 Mb USB Drive.

I don't really understand everything first:

-Why bootcamp with the new USB has not been able to make a USB bootable for windows.
    Second:

-Why can't I erase this USB key.

Thanks for reading. I hope you can help me or tell me at least!

You must delete and format the USB stick in the form of FAT. What is a USB2 flash drive? A GPT with a FAT partition will not work.

Please see Re: Please format the USB key as a single partition FAT.? on how to do to erase/format the USB.

  • my USB won't open it says "you must format the disk hard until you can use it"

    Hello
I have my brand DANE ELEC 16 GB USB key was the work properly. I took it off wile, he played the song, and since then, I have try to open a dialog box open and said you need to format the hard disk: X before you can use I can't format it because I'll lose my data fields, important documents of songs picters.
If anyone can help me with it please
    Thank you in advance.

Because you don't properly stop the disc before removing it, you burned her FAT (File Allocation Table that each player has). Your files are still there, but they can only be read by the 'normal' software... think of a hard drive as a subdivision... formatting a disk (any drive) is like the ranking of all sectors which will be the roads and determine where the accommodation structures (folders) can be placed. When a fat gets grilled, all the rankings and roads disappeared suddenly... but the housing is still there. Recovery software puts the ranking and roads back.

Is there a software that I used to be called "Rescue" that worked fine on the old disk to FAT32. Costs $60 but it was cheaper than $1000 than for a customer who had sprayed a server hard drive (and replaced their backup before calling me, long story, lesson learned client and I learned the value of disaster planning... but I digress), I was at another time.

Good luck!! Let us know what you find / use / work... so that you can save we / you... because it will never happen.

    Hi samanthaGibbons,

What is the make and model of your USB Flash drive?

The USB Flash drive works in any other computer?

It might be a problem with the drive itself, or it may need to be formatted.

I suggest you check out the website of the manufacturer for possible troubleshooting or know how to reformat the disk, if necessary.

    I hope this helps!

  • My macmini crashed, had to re - format the disk, and the need to create a USB bootable from my PC.  How can I get the dmg?

I have a macmini is ok for El Capitan, but during the upgrade, the hard drive crashed and I needed to format it to get rid of the bad blocks.  I tried to reinstall it on internet, but it times out and fails. I have Internet access (100 Mbit/s) which works ok and I checked the macmini to have access to the internet, when I try to reinstall Mac OS x.  So I have an option that I know he left: creating a bootable USB and install from that.

My problem is that I don't have another mac for this, only a PC running windows 8.1.

I had 8 current enforcement windows on my system, then I thought to install linux (distribution mageia) on it. Before I formatted the entire system and created primary and extended partitions as well as some allocated space was left for linux.

Then I installed windows 8 on a primary partition C. I installed linux on the unallocated space, and follow the steps in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLu1NwsZr48

I don't understand what was going on well.

After I don't have grub GUI screen 2 so I rebooted the system and windows 8 started normally and automatically.

Now, I decide to remove the linux partitions cz they did not appear on the home screen (for the dual boot option)

I went to dskmgmt.msc and tried to delete the partition containing linux. The removal process has continued and eventually hanged. So I rebooted my pc and boom, the pc will not boot into windows 8.

It shows crashes and win8 logo... I tried to format it, there also, it shows the start with logo screen and crashes in windows 7, it loads the files, comes up to the part where the logo builds up and crashes, tried mageia live cd also, there also it hangs on the splash screen.

I tried default BIOS, I tried to format it using usb, everything.

The hard drive gets detected as "laptop hard drive" in the bios... so I don't think that it must be a hardware problem.

I hope there is a solution, because the laptop repair shops say that he died. I did not trust them because how can a partition physically damaged hard drive!

You can refuse to accept it, but if Diskpart--> List volume or drive list does not see the drive when the data and power connectors are active, then the disk controller has not.  The hard drive is the material of the trash. Replace it with another new hard drive.

An electromagnet not wip data from the hard drive. The hard drive uses magnets neodymium as p [art of its design.

And I have a solution for you... The problem is that when you plug in your HD first, Windows 7 install your hard drive and associate it with only this USB port (whether the USB port "4") If you want to use (HD) again, you need to plug it into the same USB port (USB port '4'), where it was first installed.
