  I have a pc media center of m1170.uk that I bought in 2005, and the only change it's got is an upgrade of the memory that was made in 2009.

  It worked ok until recently. A few weeks ago, I did a system restore and took the pc back a couple of weeks and ever since then, whenever I try and open a program, it evokes the box "open with...". "then some programs does not at all, open as Word.

  I did a disk defragmentation yesterday, I started to regret the fact that my PC would not boot at all this morning.

  It loads the initial blue screen and then goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor and that's it. I turned off and then I tried pressing F10 on several occasions when it starts, as advised by HP, and still nothing, it does not load the system recovery.

  The only button that he will answer is F1 and ESC keys at startup.

  How to do a system restore? I have no recovery disks (I never created them, although I realize, I should have done). Is it possible to load without getting the discs? I hesitate to order the HP discs in case they don't work because there will be more money down the drain.

  Ive tried many things Ive updated the driver, Ive updated someBIOS but not sure if I've done good? I did a full restore a while back due to a failure > it worked the first time I put in a disk, never... I then tried updat after that update, I just can't seem to get it. and recently my phone would lock to the top, go slowly and simply shut down without warning... this thing everything's ruined... I got Trojan earlier and thought that mabey he wasent repaired... I still did a COMPLETE restore bought McAfee and installed as the first time I rebooted and scanned my external hard drive I put my files on until I restored it. Everything has been analyzed and returned with absolutely no problems, I was amazed... I then went online to go to windows update. and it stops again... I started again and got to windows update and it had 96 updates then leave it overnight and then this morning I went back and checked for more updates. There were six more... updated and all finished. I tried a CD again and still does not work. I hear it running briefly. it dosent go further than that. and when I goto my computer it dose not show what is in the drive, it is there, but cannot be explored... I've tried everything I can think of and am ready to throw it in a channel! Help, please

  Please ALL these even though you might have made some before as it's often the total process that
  solves the problem. And of course, it could be a bad drive.

  Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
  Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
  This will refresh the default driver stack. And yes the drive can not display at all then otherwise just go
  down the resolution of problems.

  Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
  slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

  When you use FN + F11 small control LED must be lit and the keypad must be enabled.
  If your laptop is preinstalled with Toshiba recovery image this option SHOULD work correctly.

  So nobody here knows what you did with your laptop and why these options are not available more.
  Before you start with advice how to get this working again once please let us know what operating system is preinstalled on your Satellite Pro U400.

  Insert the recovery media in the drive and turn off the laptop. Wait a second and turn it on. Press the C button and keep it down. On this track, the unit will start playback DVD recovery and if you use original recovery the recovery procedure will be implemented.

  You cannot reinstall the unit if the operating system is running.
