Double wireless/wired access?

Hello: I have two PCs at home connected to a wireless router (both run Windows 7 Professional). I would like to use the router wireless as the main internet connection but want to share files between computers by linking them with an ethernet cable. Will this affect my wireless connection if I change the IP addresses on computers to enable sharing via an ethernet cable?

Thank you

You should be able to connect to the other pc without ethernet. would be easier that way. See you can use windows Explorer to see the other pc once they are both connected to wifi. open Explorer and look on the left side or on behalf of the other pc network. you'd have to do the same thing with the ethernet connection so might as well use the wifi

I am a littlenew to this, sought several messages, but cannot find one that fits exactly to my question/questions.

The installer: The floor cable modem to the router (BEFSR41).  An electrician on desktop on the floor. A wire hard out of the router (WRT54G) B downstairs for LAN wired stereo components and a Wi - Fi connection for laptops.

Router B has DHCP set IP same as router and connection is on the LAN 1 port instead of port Internet, Xbox and other components on the LAN 2, 3, 4 ports. Laptop computer Upsairs wireless internet access and are working very well. I can't move the modem to the floor, and the wireless should point down because if it's on the floor there is too much signal loss.

Question: Xbox 360 is connected to router B (bottom) via wired LAN, and after about 5 minutes loses the internet connection.

Question: What is the correct configuration for the router A and router B? Is there a better Setup for this?

I can't answer this question because I do not know the subnet on your network.

Allows to make a few assumptions here well and you can change your IP according to your needs.

    Router

    IP=192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0

Remember that it is the side LAN not IP address on the WAN side.

    Router B

    IP=192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0

    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

    DNS = 192.168.1.1

The WAN should be turned off or disabled.

    WAP54G

    (Default) IP=192.168.1.245/255.255.255.0

    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

    Customers

IP=192.168.1.100-150/255.255.255.0 (this isn't how you should express this value correctly, but it is easier for the non technical to understand person).

The default gateway on all clients would be 192.168.1.1

The DNS on all clients would be 192.168.1.1

I assumed router B is hard wired from a LAN port on the router B on a LAN port router.

The channels on router A & B should be different unless your roaming between devices. I don't remember if the Linksys firmware allows and or compatible WDS. I think it does, but you have little or no control over it, so therefore people tend to install third-party firmewares.

Security on router B can be anything. But if you changed it from the beginning and you windowz cliewnts you will probably have to remove the profile stored by the client wireless and reconnect to the HA to rebuild the front profile it will not work properly. Windowz update the key in the profile stored, a pretty stupid mistake the share nanasoft.

in any case, theres a start point for you.

  • Unable to connect wireless integrated Touchsmart IQ506 to Netgear's WNHDE111 Wireless - N Access Point

I have a new HP Touchsmart IQ506 and the experience has been very positive with one exception: the Wireless-N networks.

I bought a Netgear Wireless-N reduction kit.  I am able to see (in the Vista network and sharing Center and available networks), using the Netgear Wireless-N USB adapter Netgear WNHDE111 Wireless-N access point provided with the Touchsmart IQ506 and connect to it without problem.  But I am unable to connect directly to WNHDE111 with Wireless-N adapter integrated the IQ506 (on the HP Touchsmart IQ506 or on another PC with the Wireless-N support, a Sony Vaio NS150 computer).

Ralink 802.11n adapter indicates that "working properly" in the Device Manager.

Am I missing something?  Are there instructions on how to connect the IQ506 up to an access point Wireless N with the built-in wireless adapter?

  • WRTP54G router: I have wireless internet access, but is not a wired desktop computer.

We have a great wireless network in the home, but my office (which is not wireless) is unable to access the internet.  It is said that a network cable is unplugged - it isn't.  When a cable is plugged into one of the 4 ports on the back of the router ethernet, ethernet LEDs located on the front doesn't light up or blink or anything.  I think that the part does not work.  Is there something I can do?  Should I update the firmware?  Or just get a new router?  I tried different cables, but nothing changes.  The only way for the office get online is to take the router configuration, but then the wireless network and the Vonage phone came out.

I went to ipconfig at the prompt of commands and under the Ethernet connection to the Local network card: my media is media disconnected.  So, I'm guessing that the router's ethernet ports do not work.

    Thanks for your help.

Make the continuos ping ping 192.168.1.1 t and check how many answers or RTO you will. If you still have some of the answers, connect your PC to the modem to get internet connection and download the latest firmware and utility upgrade for your router.

  • Wireless-G Access Point WAP54G & Thompson SpeedTouch ST585

For the life of me, I can't get this device to work. I am trying to create a point of access to a device not pc a FTA Receiver. The FTA Receiver needs access to the internet and works very well with an ethernet cable. I had hoped to use the WAP54G as a wireless connection. The installation CD does not recognize the modem/router Thompson SpeedTouch ST585 so I've been using the web to access the settings of the WAP54G. I did some readings using Google search and access via the web, I had to leave it white instead of enter "admin" after that tumble down the Userid first discovered, always through Google, I have tried setting the SSID, the same name as the SpeedTouch ST585 "INFINITUMB69844" done more reading I found that I needed to set the security on the WAP54G are the same on the SpeedTouch ST585 in my case as WEP passphrase window and set the WEP encryption key and press the button generate, which filled up all the empty spaces of keys. I am on windows XP and the fact a network routine from the control panel and also the repair option. Still no go. Unity of FTA, I am trying to connect has a DHCP option auto who will fill the IP address once it connects to the network so far all I get is zero, it does not connect. I need help with the settings. I did put my PC IP static or tried other methods suggested on Google. I thought to ask the experts. Please help me. Chris

How you try to configure your Access Point and where are you going to connect this AP?

As you mentioned that you have a Thompson Speedtouch router, and that you have entered the same settings wireless to your router to the AP, and if you plan to connect the AP to another device, then it is not not possible.

WAG54G will work only in Repeater Mode / Mode Bridge that with the Linksys router, with all other routers it only works in a Mode Access Point, it means you need to keep this access point wired to your Thompson Speedtouch modem always.

  • Anyone else SEE a PATTERN here-> connection = nope wireless | Wired = Yes

Ok, thought it was just me until I started researching on this forum for similar jobs.  Below are some snipets of other positions.  Everything that I have identified a similar problem.  Router is not Radio Wi - Fi, Wi - Fi radio ceases or is unable to connect to the Wi - Fi connection while wired connection works fine.  Looks like a large number of similar problems to occur within these days.

    Hey Linksys... what gives?

I can't find wireless networks, that I implemented in my router. I have 3 Wireless units, try to connect and they all get the same result, if radio signals are even found, just, it will fail to connect.
The interesting thing is that the wired connections work fine, no problems whatsoever. It's just the wireless that seems to work only partially.

I have used Linksys WRT160Nv2 for a few months now, with both wired connections / wireless.  All of a sudden today, I lost wireless connectivity.  Wasn't just working at home on one of my computers has nothing to the router, and it dropped connection.

    Hi Gavin,

    1. you are trying to access router webpage wired or wireless?
    2. What is the brand and model of the router?

I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

Set up a wireless router (the router setting)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows/set-up-wireless-router#set-up-wireless-router=Windows-8

Note: You can try to access the Web page of the router by connecting the wired router. If you still can not access the router's Web page, then you can do a hard reset of the router by taking a small pin and do hard reset. When you hard reset you will lose all the settings of the router and you will need to re - configure the router.

If you are not aware of the configuration of the router, then I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of your router.

It has been a success with the connection internet (via Belkin 54 g Wireless Modem/Router), but my "Troarn" LAN does not seem to be recognized by the laptop.
When I query, on the laptop, My Network places/computers view of the Working Group, the page is white!

    Hello

-Check if you have disabled the firewall on the laptop.

-Be sure that each computer is placed in the same working group.

    -Check the TCP/IP protocol settings.
If a computer has the IP 168.192.50.1 the other should for example has 168.192.50.2 and so on.

  • Satellite L645 - problem with Internet connectivity Wireless 'limited access '.

    Hi all

I recently bought a Satellite L645 laptop, however, there is a big problem. Whenever I connect to a wireless network, it will connect in a minute, he removes the connections and said "limited access", he could return by being connected but then back with limited access, so. However, when the laptop is connected to an ethernet internet cable works. I checked and the driver is updated, it is a defective material? software? is there something I can do? Help, please...

    Thank you.

    Hello

    Here the material is ok.
You must disable for the Wlan to save energy.
You can do it in 7 QL power management.
In addition, go to-WLan card-> properties > Device Manager
You will find a named tab to save energy. You should uncheck the option here that allows the computer turn off the Wlan device to save energy.

  • Current file to use when it is disconnected from the network wireless/wired - shared network drive

    Hello

We have a problem where we receive a "file in use" message when you are disconnected from the network. To reproduce the problem, what we do is:

    (1) connect to the wired network wireless disabled with

    (2) create a test document

    (3) to enter text and save on network share

    (4) remove the network cable

    (5) add additional text

    (6) reconnect the network cable

    (7) try to save the file to the network share

At the beginning by clicking the X is the new message you want to save. Click Yes and the message arrives until the next time you hit the Hit of X no. and he loses the last change.

From here we then go up to the network share, open the file and it comes up with "file in use. Open read-only. File is opened by us (Administrator account), and there is NO temporary file in the shared folder.

    Tried so far:

-Run net config server/autodisconnect:-1 for trying to stop it disconnect the share

-Checked pane, pane preview and off 'display the description of the pop-up window for folder and desktop items '.

    -Windows Update

We try to reproduce on wired connection, because it is easier to reproduce that disconnects wireless. Seems to have an impact on several operating systems. Share folder is shared on a Windows 2008 R2 x 64 machine.

Is this a known problem or is there something that we can configure to try to prevent the locking file after logging out? Ideally, we want the decline to go unnoticed and provide uninterrupted service to the user, unless they are trying to save during the fall.

Thanks in advance for comments :)

Are you binder to share internet from your laptop or your internet provider cable is connected to this wireless USB dongle / device?

If you share internet by connecting this USB to a computer, you will need to share internet on this computer.

You must enable "Internet connection sharing", click on Start menu-> network connections-> right click on the connection to the LAN-> select properties-> click on the tab 'Advanced'-> Tickmark 'allow other users to connect through this connection to computers.

  • Wireless internet access

I have a wrtg54 wireless n g wireless access point. I have a problem with my laptop. I'm used to be able to get a free wifi. But now I can not get access to the internet, even though I can still pick up the signal. I am also pickin, a narrower signal which is overiding, wifi free signal - well that's what I think.

It is can how to configure my routers to pick up free wifi without picking up the strongest signal of security is enabled.

"Piggy backing" off someone elses network is illegal, even if they are stupid enough to not to ensure their equipment.  That said, if your WAP doesn't work anymore, it could be because of many reasons.  You must Access the main router to verify several parameters.

Your WAP configuration must be exactly the same as the router - wireless, same same channel type security, same SSID.  The main router could use auto channel while fundamentally will make your useless WAP if the channels are not the same.  In addition, even if the network you want to connect is not secured, they may have allowed a MAC filter so that only certain MAC addresses can connect to it.  Or, because the router will identify systems all connected by MAC address, they may have picked up an "intruder" was connected and explicitly denied access of your MAC address.

If the problem is simply that your computer is trying to connect to a signal stronger and not the network you want to connect to use network settings to manually select the network should be your main if choice avaialable.
